I have never had working MMS in JB (and maybe not ICS, either). Here's the text of a post I posted elsewhere (Android community on Google+, in fact) but I figured I'd repost here.
Here's one for the pros. Wife and I have the same phone (Motorola Electrify). Mine is rooted and running AOKP, JB 4.1.2. Hers is completely unmodified. (She didn't even change the launcher.) So she's running Motoblur, Gingerbread 2.3.5. She gets MMS, and I don't.
First thing I did was ask for help on XDA. I was pointed towards some US Cellular specific APNs. Tried them. Still no go. (Of course I rebooted and re-tested after each change.) I then cleared my APNs, and then installed "APN Backup and Restore". Linked it below. (The dev is legit; his similar app "SMS Backup and Restore" is widely recommended. This works exactly the same as that, but it can't restore in ICS/JB unless it's a system app.) So, I backed up my wife's APNs, emailed the .xml file from her phone to mine, downloaded it, moved it into the backup folder created by the app, made it a system app via Titanium, and restored them. Now this is funny. It said I had 2 APNs and I did. Two entries. It says she has 49 APNs. Still only two entries. Both Sprint. HUH? Anyway, I rebooted again. Now she and I have the same APNs. I still can't get the MMS pictures to download; however, before in the stock messaging app it would show no avatar and say "0kb" as the size and "null" as the date. Well, now it gets the date right and it says "50kb" as the size, but still doesn't seem to download.
I believe I can get MMS in the stock ROM, and possibly in CM7 as well. But I got the APNs from the stock ROM. Granted it's on another phone, but the username and password are both just a star. So it can't be different, can it? Also, I opened the .xml file, and there are indeed 49 APNs... one for just about every wireless carrier in the world? Many I did not recognize. But only the two Sprint ones actually show up. And again this does not work. So I cleared all the APNs, and only inputted the US Cellular one. Saved it... and it did not show up. (I imagine there are invisible ones, like the other 47?)
Anyway, that's where I am at. Any experts know what might be going on or how to get it sorted? (Oh, the folks on XDA insist MMS works in the JB ROMs, but no one on US Cellular can confirm it... I may be the only one who 1) actively plays with ROMs and 2) didn't dump this phone for another.)
Did you do any build.prop edits for us cellular? That is what points to the correct apns
No, I wouldn't know how to do that. But thanks for the help.
As luck would have it, I'm actually getting a GS3, so my Electrify's days are numbered.

Hi, I am a somewhat new user here starting originally with xtrsense 4.6.5. I am now using v 5.0.1 but I believe all the xtrsense roms use the original sense message app from stock 2.1.
My issue is that the messenger doesn't seem to split the messages up before sending them. From what I have read this isn't a problem for verizon users but I am not on verizon. I have set up my apn, prl, and everything else manually to get the phone to work, but this is the one last bug that I haven't been able to solve.
I know that I could use go sms or handcent, but I kinda like just sticking with htc's messenger. Does anyone know which files I could edit to help change this. I just downloaded the android sdk today so that I could poke around from the computer instead of just on the phone itself with a file manager. Also out of curiosity, where is the mms max message size stored? I think the default 1.2Mb is working fine but I want to play with some of the mms settings to see if I can get a better quality receiving/sending. I think it's just that my user agent isn’t really understood on this carrier, so I should change it to an android phone that they do have.
I'm on stock / rooted 4.5.91 for ATT Atrix. Prior to the GB update I was having daily issues with my exchange email, where I would get a "Connection Error" and only removing the account, rebooting, and re-adding the account would get it temporarily resolved. It would work for 1-2 days, then it would have the same issue happen again. Unchecking the "verify certificates" box seemed to help, but again only temporarily.
Now that I'm on GB I've only seen it once, but I'm still frustrated by it. My work email is important (if it was absolutely critical, I'd suck it up an get a BB), and I'm seriously annoyed by connection issues.
I'd like to try the AOSP email.apk and stock Android exchange sync setup, but not sure how to do that from where I am now. I assume it is harder than removing the existing email.apk and installing a new one.
I know the Aura ROM has the AOSP email built in, but not quite ready to go down the unlocked bootloader path. I'd like to keep my warranty in case the AOSP email doesn't work and I need to return the Atrix.
Anyone able to help?
Thanks.

I don't know the answer to your question, but are you sure it's not your corpo's fault? We run 4 exchange servers here and we have had no complaints about failed connections or anything of the sort, whether it's android, iPhone or otherwise. I have an Atrix and had it set up with my email since day one and I have had no issues at all.

Nope, not sure. But I do know numerous iOS and other Android users (mostly HTC phones, a few OG Droids) that don't have this issue.
I work at a small company so we have a hosted exchange service, and I had our IT guy remove and re-add the Activesync service for my account. That seemed to help for a day, but then back to the same problem.
I'd be willing to bet it is something that is incompatible between the Atrix and the exchange environment, but I've got limited access / visibility to that, and a variety of data points that do not have issues, so I'm trying this route.
Thanks for the input. If you have suggestions on things I can ask my provider to check / uncheck, I'm open.
Thus doesn't actually answer your question but I got tired of dealing with that from rom to rom so I just bought "enhanced email" from the market. Its $10 and gets around the pin requirement if you want to.
Sent from my Att Atrix 4g unlocked.
I had this start on my Captivate running Serendipity VII a few days ago and it is now completely shut down, no emails getting through. I use Enhanced Email as my email program. Very interested in discovering a solution.
on my BB, it took 30+ mins or even an hour to get emails. My exchange works perfectly on my Atrix, as it did on my Inspire. Its probably your phone
Agreed EE is awesome. We use it on 14 different phones in my office.
Last time I tried to get rid of Corporate Sync I kept getting FC's afterwards.
I recommend using the exchange app included in CM roms. It's based on AOSP but has some mods like email signature, and on your atrix the account will show up next to the google accounts in settings menu.
go download a CM zip from http://www.cyanogenmod.com/devices/nexus-one and then extract system/app/email.apk to your phone and install it. then just add the account in settings.
I had issues with company exchange servers and went to Moxier Mail, they have a free 7 day trial then for $19.00 you get it all, contacts, calendar, email, tasks.....stays connected except when I changed my password (every 60 days). Then I had to remove and reload, but that was only issue....very reliable.....

Thanks, I'll try that.
Would I replace the email.apk with the CM one, or just install it in addition?

Appreciate the help. Got the file extracted then realized I had one more question - do I need to change the name, or is it ok to have 2 "email.apk" applications?
I realize it is a total noob question, but figure better to ask than to screw something up.
you can just install it. the blur version is titled BlurEmail.apk. if a conflict were to arise - it would ask you to overwrite. the system identifies apps differently so just renaming it wont change how it installs.
ex. Google+ shows up as "Google+" but the system seems and calls on com.google.android.apps.plus
I understand that there are many other threads out there, and that many people have been having issues like this before, but I needed some quick help to get some things settled, and maybe give some Optimus V owners out there a repository of links for where to go for their issues.
Like many OV users, I had the TWS bug with the stock rom. So, I backed everything up and started flashing ROMs to see which ones I liked. All of them have been working well, up until recently. I had some issues with MMS, sending and/or receiving pictures, so I checked to see if there were any fixes. Threw on a flashable APN fixer, but I don't know if I screwed things up worse or not. At this point, I have Harmonia 2.09 (latest update as of 8/23/2012) running on the phone, with the ability to receive pictures through MMS, but can't send out pictures through MMS. Is there a way I can manually edit the APN in the phone to make it work, or a call I can make to Virgin Mobile USA to have them send a fresh APN to the phone, or something I can flash via CWM to fix it? I'm trying to be thorough, so let me know if there's anything the smart people of this android community can throw my way. Much obliged for any help I can get
I have searched on phone issues and even messagebank... There was a post that seemed similar but not the same.
Unfortunately I can't say just where this issue came in; I only noticed it yesterday and, as mentioned in another thread, I have been trying out ROM flashing. My GUESS would be it has to do with flashing 'modem_CWM_I9300XXDLH7' but that is purely a guess because it is call related.
I have flashed a stock ROM, GT-I9300_XSA_1_20120710170916_9xjds9h0pm to install an Aussie ROM (phone from Kogan and was German model) and more recently flashed 'Kernel_CM10_20120820_Official_CWM' in preparation for trying a JB ROM. (I am planning on using 'I9300XXBLH4_Jelly_Bean_4.1.1_Clean_Stock_Rom_Nandroid_Backup' for a first try)
SO, phone seems to be working well; I managed to crash it (stuck on Samsung screen) but have backups that brought me back up to where I was without too many issues.
But, I noticed yesterday I got a Telstra Messagebank notification for a missed call/voice message. It says it came from +101 but when I click the notification it takes me to a Telstra recording saying the number is not connected. This used to work. Dialling 101 works just fine and I have looked to try to locate where the phone has decided MB is now +101 but can't find it.
It's not a biggie, and I figure maybe I need to call Telstra to get their info resent or something, but it is a little annoying to have to dial each time instead of just press the notification.
Any ideas of what to try? I'm about to flash the JB ROM so if that fixes it I will be back (hopefully without dramas ) soon. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
XXBLH4 is a really old JB leak, flash XXDLH8 instead (DLH9 is newer but has a keyboard bug)
As for your problem, I don't know what to tell you but your carrier won't be able to help you as you have unofficial firmware on your phone and that may be the reason and they will only be able to assist you in regards to the official Telstra fw.
Is it really that big of a deal to dial 101?

that is a strange one. It seems as though it's trying to dial 101 as an international call (with that plus in front of it making it a call to USA number 01), when it should have picked it up as +61 101.
Out of curiosity, what does it come up with when you tap and hold on the SMS and go to "View Message Details"?
@nodstuff - The reason for I9300XXBLH4_Jelly_Bean was because, a. I found it and the file date was something like 25/8/12, and because the description said it has been cleaned up and all bloatware removed. I don't recall seeing XXDLH8 for download but I am new here... I was thinking along the lines of getting something known and stable for my first JB flash.
@Dinty - I don't get a 'View Message' option on a long tap, I get a menu with, Call +101, Send Msg, Edit numbr, Add to Contacts, Send Nmbr, Add to Reject list, Delete.
Further info just noticed - older call from MB (30/8 - prior to new Modem flash) came in as Int'l M'Bank with #101# so somewhere the MB number has altered.
I doubt Telstra will have an issue with the FW etc. It isn't their phone. I bought outright and would be speaking to a rep - IIRC when I got my Moto Defy from the dealer a couple of years back they had to send me a txt which I saved and it set up the Telstra info on the phone. Might be mistaken in memory of that though...
@nodstuff - do you have a recommendation for a XXDLH8 ROM to flash? I'm looking for stable with some optimisation and as clean of standard apps as possible. I've got an Apps backup in Titanium Pro that I figure I can use to put my new apps back.
Also, is the Keybd issue with LH9 itself or just with some ROM's?
thanks for the help...

Well don't flash XXBLH4 so, its very buggy and not stable.
XXDLH8 is very stable and pretty bug free.
There are a few downloads for it (cwm flashable, Odin or an ota package. I suggest cwm or Odin method as the ota method is quite tricky.)

I believe you're talking about the automatic set-up service. I think this is what you mean:
http://www.configure.telstra.com.au/telstra/index.jsp
Not sure it will have any effect on that messagebank issue, but I suppose it doesn't hurt to try!

Thanks for the link - that looks what I originally had to do over the phone, but then I didn't have a Telstra account set up at that point.Didn't work unfortunately. le sigh!
So, I am now the owner of a JellyBean phone, all working nicely and with my apps installed again. All went smoothly and I just chose my purchased and download apps from my titanium backup and Voila!!!
I took the advice and installed GT-I9300_WanamLite.XXDLH8.V3.0.RC4.NO-WIPE - I thought about the DLH9 version of it but saw a note in the thread about keybd issues, so, taking the advice above I DL'd the DLH8 version.
Only thing I have noticed so far is it seems a bit slow on the USB charging. Once it's at 100% I will disconnect and see if maybe power is draining too fast, then look at ways to improve battery.
Just did some trials of the MB issue and noticed something odd - if I try to create a Contact I am unable to enter numbers in the name field. I also tried to set up my mobile banking and using the app provided by the bank I cannot use numbers for my ID, even though it is an 8 number ID. The Keybd simply will not change to numbers until I go to the PW line - is this the keybd error you mentioned as being present in DLH9, nodstuff??
Hm... so I took a chance and flashed Wanamlite's keybd fix; the thread says it is for DLH9 but I figured what the heck, if it fails the phone I can easily reflash the ROM.
Seems to have worked. Gonna leave a comment over there about it because I seem to have noticed something not mentioned by others.
I currently have a rooted S4 on kitkat and purchased a LG G4 from T-Mobile. I'm sure this is an easy thing and I've not been able to backup and restore all of my MMS / SMS from the old phone.
1. I have 85,000 msgs. Yes, I want them all.
2. Yes I want my MMS AND SMS. Yes. All of them.
3. Yes. I want the Emojis too. Though not as important
I've tried SMS backup / restore and it takes over 48 hours. First time it crashed. Then reset phone to factory defaults and did it again as it takes too long to delete all of the messages again. After the factory reset, I did it again and it said it only restored 75,000 out of the 75,000. This doesn't make sense because when I do the backup on the S$ it's over 86k, and when I started the process it said it was over 86,000. Yet it said it did them all.
That seemed to work okay. MMS and all. However, on a couple dozen threads it came in on TODAY's date. I read online you just need to open them with stock app, open the thread, and it works. No dice. All but the last few said they came in today. No clue why. Strange thing is that it was only the last 4-5 that were today's date. Rest were okay.
So here is what I am offering a bounty for. I can't believe it takes me about 10-15 mins to extract all of my messages and over 48 hours to shove them back in. That sounds crazy to me. Especially since this G4 has a ton of ram and processing power. I would like to do it WITHOUT root, but if I need to ROOT I guess I can do that too. It's been over a week and I still can't use my new phone because I can't get these messages into it.
I have been all over google and haven't found any good answers. Top rated answer that works will receive the bounty. It's a way you guys can help me (In case I missed something on another forum) and I can help you by throwing some money your way. I've found threads but some were old and I can't imagine this 48 hour method is the best way.
NO I DON'T WANT THEM ON GOOGLE HANGOUTS
P.S. I'll throw an extra $25 bucks to the person who helps me merge my SMS backup+ that sent it to my gmail account and this XML method. Back then it would backup my MMS too but not restore them. I would like all of the SMS and MMS from my gmail somehow thrown back into one giant file? Is this even possible? It's been years and it says this feature isn't available yet. (SMS BACKUP+)
Bumped it up to $100 and posted here:
