Hi, I've followed the instructions from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1321360
Not only do I not get my boot and down animations to not work, now they are showing different text from the original Mean ROM animations that I backed up, now the say "Androi"d on booting and "Powering Down", I haven't seen this is any of my searching...
I've checked the default.xml file and they point to the regular System/Customize/Resource folders.
Zips work in the boot animation factory.
My png files are 360x640 and the desc files are listed as 720x1080 (all portrait files) including blank space at the end
Files are named: SPC_bootanimation.zip and SPC_downanimation.zip
Can anyone advise? Thanks in advance.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/zz44x927cpobbzv/SPC_bootanimation.zip
https://www.dropbox.com/s/u6ujepb9vvxwhyy/SPC_downanimation.zip
Edit: just checked my file permission: rw-,r--,r-- still no change.
Hmm maybe this should be in the Q&A forum, mod please move if appropriate. thanks!
I'll take a look at it in about an hour

DAMN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
that zip is 258mb
for a bootani wtf whats in there???
lol thanks for checking...I got about 40 seconds of 360x640 frames at 30fps. When I extracted frames from a GIF for the down animation, the files were small. but when I extracted frames from a downloaded youtube clip, they all became bitmap images and exploded in size.
try this
Thanks Dased14 so I downloaded the bootanimation.zip file
I was curious about the format and so I booted into HBoot->TWRP recovery and installed that, it said successful however there was no change to the boot/down animation.
Then I recalled some people putting the bootanimation.zip file in their System\Media\ folder (likely for other devices) but I did it anyways and confirmed permissions were correct: rw-,r--,r--
The interesting change this time is there was no "Android" text on boot and "Powering Down" on down...just black screen
What do you think I can try next...
Or did I fail loading the bootanimation.zip file to the device. here's some supporting info I guess.

You flashed that zip in recovery? Right
That zip i posted was flashable. (ie reboot in to recovery, click install, locate the bootanimation.zip click it click install wipe cache and reboot system

I installed in recovery but there was no change to boot animation. I'll try again...

and not to burst you bubble but that boot anim is massive and i mean massive... I just made on recently and slimmed it down to 125mb which is huge and 258mb is extremely large your sucking up your system partition space and memory.
Just made this one like 5 days ago best bet is to remove every other image... I batched it out in ps to change the names to single digitis with an action and then use batch to remove the odd numbers... Thats what I did but your best bet is probably to just remove them by hand every odd image remove it out... Originally this boot animation was 540mb and i got it down to 120 and I did that through winoptpng and removing images... Remember dont opt regular black images b/c they'll index... Enjoy that tid bit of information..
I slimmed it down to 21mb for him

yup total file from dased14 was 40MB for both files vs my 258MB + 3MB...still scratching my head here.
Good tip though.
I re-installed in custom recovery and cleared cache. Default Android text is on boot animation. Shut down is black screen only.
Might be a meanrom thing you can try unzipping the rom chamging out the two zips and dirty flash the rom

This tool helped me get my last boot animation to work. Maybe it will do the trick for you.
Woohoo! dirty copy into System/Customize/Resource worked! I also have a feeling I may have borked a setting or the fact that I created a .old file might have messed things up.
Updated to the new MeanBean ROM and then proceeded with copying the files over and both files worked great! Thanks for slimming down the files!

refer to amazinglarry's boot audio enabler here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016208 for sounds
1. use root explorer to copy bootanimation.zip
2. navigate to /system/media on RE, mount rw and paste the bootanimation.zip overwriting the existing one
3* if you have bootanimation sounds enabled using the above audio enabler. paste the android_audio.mp3 again overwriting the existing one
4. reboot, enjoy and hit thanks

it won't be as appealing if it loops... and looping was giving me issues such as the android just disappearing and a black screen staying on till boot. anyone wanna edit the images and add more animations? Maybe a CRT turn off animation similar to the portal boot animation, and then put a text saying Android or something?

i tried to make it loop as well and couldnt figure it out. as far as i understand the part1 folder is the one that loops. i copied the images from part0 to part1 and renamed them in sequential order and got nothing. maybe one of the pros on here could help us out?

you want the original bootanimation.zip file that is supposed to loop? its f*cked since the black screen keeps coming on instead of a loop :S this is actually a evo boot animation tweaked for our device (evo takes sh!t long to boot)
I can edit the images but IDK how to do a crt animation on photoshop using different images
Will this work on myt4g with S=off and stock everything?
Yep it should
Rooted/OC'd/De-bloated
For the boot animation loop you have to edit the text file that is for screen size frame rate and how many times to play each folder.

Is there any chance that this will work on my rooted HTC Incredible S?? I love this mod
Download link is dead, can you please update it?
I have the Call of Duty boot animation, but for some reason the audio wont work. I also have tried the Xbox 360 boot animation. Even that, will not play the audio. but the FinalThunder.mp3 still plays fine.
Ive checked permissions, file names...rhetorically everything. Anyone got an idea what i might be doing wrong?
which rom are you using.....I'm finding the same problem using CM7 and the Bios boot animation. Haven't really looked into it yet though as I just loaded it this morning.
Will post back if I find anything.........
Stock. I rooted fully. Rootchecker says im fine, and the animation works, but no sound
What I have found that works is you have to have the folders within bootanimation.zip set up the same way as the stock one: android, progress and VZW. I haven't look that far into but it seems like the boot sound is triggered when a certain folder is started. If this is so, replacing the boot animation with another one that isn't structured the same and renaming the mp3 to FinalThunder won't work.
Like, wat do you mean? only thing i got is the bootanimation.zip and FinalThunder.mp3, and its int he same place, as in /system/customize/resource/

There's a folder structure inside bootanimation.zip. I'm not talking about where the zip file stored on the phone. More than like the Call of Duty zip has two folders in it, android and part2. Link me to where you got the boot animation and I'll fix it for you.

Ill try to attach the ones i have.
Looking inside them both, stock bootanim has no folders. But the COD one does. As for the audio, FinaltHUNDER works but cod-finalthunder wont. (no, i didnt name it that lol)
As i said before, the boot animation works PERFECTLY, just the audio is not working
Try this. Works with sound on my phone. http://www.mediafire.com/?2fvuc65eqdcfdp3
testing. will post with results.
Also, could you maybe tell me what you did? I really want to learn. I have some others i'd like to get working, as well as some ideas I am building with some friends. They know the stuff, but they are in classes and doing finals..I don't have the luxury of college.
Also, is there a way i can adb into my phone and auto-achieve r/w on my system folder? Right now, i have to use RootExplorer and mount as R/W since adb always tells me "unable to push, blah blah, read only filesystem"
It works. Perfectly. Cept the audio is unsynched but that will be easy for me to fix. Thank you so much. What did you change, my awesome savior?

All I did was set the folder structure the same way the stock one is, with android, progress and VZW and made sure desc.txt was formatted properly.
If you are using adb, instead of using Root Explorer to mount system, try command
Code:
adb shell sysrw
Of course this command all depends on how the ROM is set up that you are using.
So, say im using a new bootanimation. Copy/pasta the desc text file, and make sure the structure inside is the same way?
adb shell sysrw says permission denied. im using rooted stock.

Simple break down: android folder contains the first image of the boot animation; the one some people thinks is a second splash screen. VZW folder contains the actually boot animation images and progress is the last image display at the phone is booting. Place your boot animation images in these folders accordingly. I would suggest just putting a plain black image in the android folder and name the image the same as the stock "second splash" screen.
Use the desc.txt file from the boot that I sent you. The only thing you will need to change is the frame rate to make it work with other boot animations. So if a boot is supposed to be displayed at 10 fps, change the 30 to 10 and save.
Once you have everything the way you want it, zip all three folders and desc.txt using the store, or no compression, option. Now you are ready to go. Like you mentioned earlier, you may need to edit FinalThunder.mp3 to make it sync correctly.
About adb sysrw command; stock RUU is not up for that command. Not sure what the syntax would be for stock root or if you can even mount the system as R/W through adb.
dont think i can. and i thnk i gotta lower the fps a little ont he animation

Did you open it from within the zip file and save it? If so, when you saved it, the zip was updated and probably changed the compression ratio to the default of whatever program you are using.

Hey guys, I'm looking for and audio thread that would help with a GB lockscreen, I have ran across one or know if there is one but I found this one and may one of you could help me?

*WALK in the WORD*
So far I've found a lot of helpful threads on boot animations... I am simply modifying the existing one on my phone...
what I'm trying to do...
when a thunderbolt boots up it says "HTC"
then it says "HTC quietly brilliant"
then the thunderbolt clip with BAMF in the bottom right corner...
I WANT to replace the .PNG file that has "HTC quitly brilliant" to "HTC quietly rooted" with a pic of an android eating an apple...
THATS IT... I have made the picture i want in photoshop, named it the same name...
I have copied the zip off my phone, put that picture (png file) over the existing one in the .zip.... then renamed the bootanimation.zip file in my phone to bootanimation_original.zip and copied the new verizon to the same file as bootanimaton.zip... the phone boots... says "HTC" then its black and goes straight into the thunderbolt boot thing...
the only thing i can think is that the file is too big... the original is about 14kb the new one is 26kb... I tried saving it smaller but that was as small as i can get it through photoshop...
any help would be much appreciated!... (i also changed the file to 'read only' as the original was also)
please help!
thank you!
So if i understand correctly, you are seeing the rest of the animation.
If that's the case, then it has to be a problem with the image. It could be something as simple as the file name.
If you can't get it figured out, post it here as an attachment and I would be happy to take a look at it for you.
Sent from my B.A.M.F. Thunderbolt
I don't think the file size matters i have made a bunch of different ones. One thing to check is inside the bootanimation.zip file there is a text document called Desc.txt you have to adjust your desc file accordingly. Mainly you want your image width and height.
your desc should look something like this
"480 800 15p 1 45 androidp 1 1 VZWp 1 300 progress"
480 and 800 being you width and height, 15p is your frames per second, 1 is the number of times for the video to loop( change to 0 if you want that animation to loop to boot is complete), and not sure about the 45 i think how long to wait before starting images in the VZW folder. and same goes for numbers after VZWp. Also not sure on the progress most likely to hold last image till boot process is completed.
Edit:
Also when you re compress the ZIP file make sure you change the setting for compression method to "Store"

Correct, I CAN see the rest of the animation, just NOT that part I replaced... here's how I did it at first... at first I just copied the file out, made the adjustments I waned, and then dragged and dropped it back in the zip'd folder (I use windows XP if that makes any difference) it put my file over the existing one in the .zip.... then i put that in place of the bootanimation.zip on the phone...
THEN i tried downloading 7-Zip... i unzipped the whole file, put my file in, re-zipped my whole folder with NO compression... that killed the entire animation boot up thing all together... I'm using se explorer with root permissions to put these in the system/media folder...
so... yeah... not getting very far...
Tried attaching the .zip but it was 11mb and i can only post up to 8mb .zips... i'll post JUST the image, which is the correct width/height...
it is also named exactly what the other file was named...
I'm not sure what bootanimation file you are starting with but since you say it says BAMF I'll assume it's the bootanimation from the das BAMF ROM.
Actually, I made the bootanimations for the BAMF ROMS.
The only thing that confuses me is that it is only about 4MB in size?
Attached is the one from the BAMF ROM with your picture in it.
Just rename it to bootanimation.zip, put it on tour TB and see if that's the one you wanted.
I put it on my phone to test and it works as it should.
I realize this thread is a bit old, but I'm having a similar problem.
I'm using cyanogenmod on my thunderbolt, but since I like red, I thought I'd try changing the boot anim.
So I extracted the original boot anim and hue shifted the images, then re-zipped it and i get nothing at all. Putting the original back works fine. Is there maybe something that 7-zip does to make it not work, or maybe something that photoshop did to the images? I have opened the zip that i made on the phone and viewed the images there so the gallery can read the images once extracted from the zip. (If that makes a difference.)
Edit: Apparently my problem was that the only way to get it to show was to use store for the zip compression.
I figured I would share with the community since people are finding ICS a little tricky
*JUST AN UPDATE. I FOUND THAT THE BEATS AND VZW FOLDERS CAN HAVE ANY NUMBER OF IMAGES*
What you need:
boot animation creator.exe (windows program) get it at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1234611 (credit to despotovski01)
7zip (windows program) http://www.7-zip.org/
fotosizer (windows program) http://www.fotosizer.com/
some type of boot animation (youtube video, collection of images, whatever)
the stock VZW boot animation (attached)
file explorer app (root explorer, es file explorer, etc)
Steps:
create a folder somewhere that you will be working from
in that folder, create a folder named VZW
use fotosizer to rename the images.
USE THESE SETTINGS : Preset size - original, destination folder (the folder you created earlier named VZW, output format - JPEG, file name mask (this is important) render_720x1280_compress %NNN
add your images to fotosizer and click start. it will output the images to the folder you chose all named "render_720x1280_compress xxx.jpeg"
grab the "beats" folder and the "android" folder from the stock animation
place these folders with VZW
open the boot animation creator.exe
choose the folder that contains beats, android and VZW and choose next
HERE IS THE TRICKY PART: the settings have to be like this or it wont work
android - 1 15
beats - 1 15
VZW - X 90 (x can be as many times as you want the image set in the VZW folder to repeat)
width - 720
height - 1280
speed - 15
choose next and save it anywhere you want. The file must be named Vigor_VZW_bootanimation.zip
Place the zip on your sd card and drop it where ever you ROM has its boot animation (either /system/customize/resource or /data/local or /system/media)
change the permissions to RW-R-R using a file explorer and reboot
IF YOU DON'T WANT THE BEATS ANIMATION:
use fotosizer once again to rename your first 35 images to "Beats Audio Animation as JPG Seq XX" the same way as you did with the VZW folder and place them in the "beats" folder
you will need to redo the naming process again for the VZW folder
follow the same steps for the bootanimation creator.exe program
IF YOU WANT LANDSCAPE
Simply open the folder that your images are stored in, single click on the first image, press and hold the shift key, click on the last image. right click and choose rotate clockwise. proceed as normal.
you can also create a flashable zip (include with the tools and credit Mr.Smith317) with the animation placed in the correct location
(there may be other ways of doing this process, but this ways has always worked without fail)
DOWNLOAD THE TOOLS
Adding sound :
grab your sound file. it must be an mp3 and shouldn't be longer than 15 seconds
rename it to android_audio.mp3
the default.xml file in /system/customize/CID needs to be edited
find this line 3/4 of the way down in the xml file
<BootAnimation animation="/system/customize/resource/Vigor_VZW_bootanimation.zip"
add this to the end
"audio="/system/customize/resource/android_audio.mp3" audiostart="VZW"/>
the whole line should be
<BootAnimation animation="/system/customize/resource/Vigor_VZW_bootanimation.zip"audio="/system/customize/resource/android_audio.mp3" audiostart="VZW"/>
*notice "/system/customize/resource/Vigor_VZW_bootanimation.zip? thats where your boot animation is stored*
place you audio mp3 file in the same folder as the boot animation
change permissions to RW-R-R
reboot
the sound will start to play when the VZW folder images start. if you want to change this edit this part of the line you added
audiostart="VZW"/> to what ever folder you want it to start at

THANK YOU. i wanted to port my boot animation but it wasnt working. i cant wait to try.
I made a ton of boot animations a while back, mostly for the inc and EVO. I opened one of the stock Rezound ones up the other to look around inside at the files. Why are the folders duplicated? The one I looked at has 2 beats, 2 vzw, etc. They seem to have the exact same images in them.
Also. Which animation does what? On a couple if Roma I tried the.boot animation was different depending on how I booted. Doing a full power down and reboot was different than doing a hot reboot.

Hell yeah man good job!
Sweet!! I wanted to make a boot animation for my phone.
Thanks
FPS?
First of all great guide, and congrats on making the first page. I was wondering if there was any way to increase the FPS (im trying to increase it to 25) of the boot animation, I've noticed that anytime I change it in boot animation creator, my animation doesn't work anymore. If I can't change it in the boot animation creator, what would be the best way to speed up the frames a bit? Thanks in advance.

First of all thank you OP for this walkthrough. I have a Vivid and haven't been able to get bootsounds to work. With a little guidance from post 2, we have bootsound!
Xarmox - In all the animations I've ever made, there should be a desc.txt in your animation's .zip, along with the image folders. In this .txt file, the first line will display "width height framespersecond". You should be able to speed it up/slow it down by editing the fps
Also to OP and anyone else who might be interested - if you leave off the audiostart="folder", it will just start the sound at the beginning of the animation, rather than looking for a specific folder name. This would allow other animations that don't use the same folder structure to utilize the sound. However if you only want your sound to start at a specific roll of images, this is a great addition!

thank you for the advice, the problem I'm having is that anytime i change the FPS in the desc.txt or in the boot animation program, my boot animation doesn't play on my phone when i boot up, it just shows the splash screen until the phone boots up. Its as if the ReZound won't play any boot animation unless its at 15 FPS.
I tried deleting every other image in the VZW folder and renamed them (I think this would give the appearance of ~30 FPS, when played at 15FPS), which isn't the preferred way, because its gonna make syncing up the sound that much more difficult. Maybe I could figure out a good pattern of frames to delete to give the appearance of 25 FPS.

Don't know if it would matter or not, but are you putting the edited desc.txt back with Store compression (file size and compressed size the same)? I use WinRAR to do this as it allows me to select compression level every time, but have to use 7zip for a lot of the other things I do that don't require Store compression, it seems to just know
Edit: Keep in mind I'm saying this without ever having played with a bootanimation for a Rezound. I have a buddy with one, if you're still having trouble I'll put one on his and see what I can do next time I see him. Or maybe OP can chime in with some knowledge
Caution:::: I have today (1-18-2015) heard on the rumor mill that Motorola have used a new binary in the 5.0.2 update, this binary affects the boot animation. In effect it may only allow animations made in an mp4 format to work and causes a system crash if using the old, tried and tested format of frames of jpg's or png's. This of course fits in with Motorola's own animations which are mp4's. I can't vouch for the fact that it may be possible to overcome this by changing permissions but it seems that the new binary will have to be installed. In view of the fact that all my animations up to now are jpg's and png's I would strongly advise you don't install them on a 5.0.2 upgrade. I hope I'm being over cautious but I wouldn't want anyone to have to go through the number of re-sets that I have had to do over the past few days.
I've made a couple of animations for the 2014 moto g so over the next couple of days I'll post them to this thread in case anyone is interested. The usual disclaimer applies i.e. I am not responsible if installing these files causes your house to blow up, your cat to run away or your wife, partner or friend leave you for the next door neighbor.
This first one is CIA themed so I have made a similar bootlogo file in case anyone wants to go the whole way! The two files are easily identifiable by the names.
The "Logo" file is a flashable zip using any custom recovery (TWRP - CWM - Philz).
The animation zip has to be placed manually using any file manager you like.
First - go to ..... /system/media ..... and rename the bootanimation which is there to avoid it being overwritten. You can add the word "old" or "bak" or anything you like.
Second - copy the CIA-Anim.zip file to the folder ...../system/media ..... and then rename it bootanimation.zip
These files will work with KK and Lollipop O/S's and with all versions of moto g 2014 edition.
The PNG file shows you the Logo ..... The GIF file gives you an idea of the animation.
OK here is another one. Same as before all disclaimers apply i.e. house - cat - neighbor.
Logo file is "recovery flashable zip"
Anim file is put into ...../system/media ..... folder
JPG shows how Logo looks ..... GIF gives you an idea of the animation.

Here's one for the Marvel Fans.
Usual disclaimer and guidance applies
Logo is flashable in recovery ..... Anim rename and place in /system/media
JPG shows Logo ..... GIF gives idea of Anim
OK as before same disclaimer and guidance apply
Logo file is flashable in recovery ..... Anim file placed in /system/media
At the moment I am holding off from posting any further anims. Before posting I always try out new anims on my own XT1064 to make certain they work and there is no possibility of bootlooping for other users. Since updating to 5.0.2 I have found problems installing new anims i.e. continuous bootlooping causing me several instances of having to factory reset and re-install the update. Until I can determine whether this is a fault on my phone or is caused by the 5.0.2 update I won't post any more. As a possible related issue, I have found that I can no longer make alterations to the "build.prop" file without causing a bootloop and crash.
