Is this right? - HTC Amaze 4G

Recovery and HBOOT is not visible on my device but they are there.
Not asking about that.
I have CWM flashed and I am trying to blindly flash superuser.zip renamed as update
I have watched youtube and counted the correct sequence of buttons can someone please verify this for me?
Hold down volume down and power.
HBOOT:
1 down (recovery)
Power
CWM:
4 down
Power
1 down
Power
4 up FIVE UP
Power
FLASHING SUPERUSER
1 up
Power
Power
REBOOTING
When I do this, the phone reboots automaticallly but superuser is still not installed.
I have placed a copy of the update (renamed from superuser) on my SD, Internal, and EXTSD on internal to cover every base possible.

I have also tried:
FROM RECOVERY CWM
1 down
Power
4 Up
Power
FLASHING SUPERUSER
1 down
Power
Power
AND IT REBOOTS

I GOT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AFter SIX MONTHS I GOT ROOT ON THIS PHONE WITH NON WORKING DISPLAY....
IF ANYONE WANTS TO KNOW HOW TO DO IT WITH YOUR EYES CLOSED JUST ASK.....

That's really cool, but why doesn't your display work? And why don't you fix it?

No idea why it doesn't work.
And by fix do you mean replace? I don't have the money nor do I want to.
This was a BIG CHALLENGE for me. The phone is now rooted, s-off ad unlocked bootloader of course without ever seeing HBOOT or Recovery on the screen.

HAHA, I can see your confusion.
Everything works perfect on this phone. Even the ROM once it is booted up.
For some reason I just cannot see HBOOT or Recovery.
I HAVE NO IDEA NOR DOES ANYONE I HAVE EVER ASKED KNOW WHY THIS WOULD BE.

SWEEEEET!
GOOD FOR YOU BUDDY!

What should I do before taking a rooted phone in for repair?

My power button is acting up more and more. I have to press it 3 time on average to get the screen to turn off.
I am HBoot 1.4 revolutionary rooted. I have the sprint protection plan and would like to get this fixed.
I don't know what is best to do. Flash a stock ROM and take it in or un root and take it in.

Flash the newest RUU you can find. It'll updates your bootloader to 1.5 but you'll still be S-off.

Ya you shouldn't have a problem with sprint seeing your rooted they don't care. Just make sure they don't swap your phone out .. Somtimes they do... Well my store does can be a pain in the ass if you wanna keep the one you have..
I was just wondering if sprint would kick it back if they saw s-off. What are the chances they would boot into hboot and see that it is s-off?

Very slim ... I wouldn't worry about it worst thing they would do is say to unroot it .. But for a power button issue I don't think you will have a problem.
Most stores honestly won't really go looking for evidence of root unless they suspect that you've actually caused your problems by doing so.... Obviously, hardware issues don't even come close.
Thanks. Anyone have a link for a stock ROM? It is running a ruu best?

When I worked in repair at corporate we dealt with all kinds of problems, software, hardware, customer information mostly.
Sprint actually recycles their phones, taking working parts off returns and replacing them, never would they check hboot.
Most of the techs know nothing unfortunately, they run a standard check, none of which entails checking for root.
The biggest thing they look for is water damage/corrosion all they will do is try replacing your power button, which prolly will work, otherwise your looking at a refurbished replacement.

a lot of techs dont even look for s off... most people dont even know what it means.
throw a stock ROM on it... boot it once to make sure all is good. you don't need to flash all the updates. stock rom, stock kernel will do. nothing else would effect the power button not working anyways. that is either hardware or kernel related.

I would go with hardware related Also the button on the back plate could be worn out I have seen em stick to go screwy..
OP have you taken your battery door off and pressed the button with your finger nail or a pencil for the hell of it..

Flashing a stock (rooted) rom, is what I was going for.
Removing the back cover and using my nail, works. Putting the cover back on, it starts doing the same thing. The screen turns off, then comes right back on. Seems it is the cover not the physical button.

Yes it will......flashing any ROM whether stock or custom without superuser/supersu = unrooting your phone.

You can I guess be "unrooted" while running a stock ROM, but you'd still have S-off so you could just flash something else afterwards.

Bricked my brand new phone already....

Alright so long story short I tried to rush through rooting my new phone here without checking everything out too much (complete fail on my part...but I wanted it rooted before I went out to the bars to save some battery life haha...ironic, now I'll have no phone tonight).
I went to root it and it somehow got screwed up...the sense launcher wasn't showing up along with the fact that when I pulled down the notification bar and hit settings, it crashed, so I went to unroot it with the RUU 1.13.651.1 and when I got to the comparison screen it said I had 1.13.651.1_R2...and being already frustraited at this point, decided how worse could it get? Tried it out, not my brand new phone is stuck at the black htc screen....fail.
Anyone have any suggestions on what to do? I tried running it again to no avail...I'm about to try the other RUU to just see if it works, but I'm running out of other ideas. Anyone that can help, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Not that hard if he actually takes his time and reads before doing anything. If he can unlock the bootloader with htcdev and flash a recovery he should be ok

Well, the good news is the phone is not hard bricked, it has a soft brick and is recoverable. Redownload the RUU and try again, but make sure you have the correct one. If that doesn't work you'll have to unlock with htcdev, flash a recovery and flash a ROM. Then try the RUU again if you no longer want root.
Like others have said...it sounds like there is hope for your phone yet. Take your time and CAREFULLY follow instructions for whichever process you choose. Hopefully you post again later saying you were able to fix it.

First off don't feel too bad, No matter how sure you know what your doing we all make mistakes. I paperweighted mine while manually installing some mods last night. If you would of watched the how to RUU the evo lte you would of seen that that the black HTC screen is perfectly normal. The phone will sit on that screen for like 10 minutes sometimes it will reboot and sometimes you will get differnt screens. The key is to have the drivers handy and install them if ur PC ever calls the device android 1.0.
The RUU version 1.13.651.1_R2 is the one you should be using. As scary as it is you just need to be patient, and let the RUU run it may look like nothing is happening but something is.

Is this a Brick ?

hey all! maybe someone can help me out. as of an hr ago i had to activate another evo lte we had for dev purposes . all i did was reboot into recovery and "Poof" instant black screen and phone is unresponsive. power button dont work up and down buttons dont work. and like i said the screen is black like no power is getting to the phone. i had a full battery when this started.
any help would be appreciated.
plug it into your computer and see if your computer tried to install drivers for QHSUSB_DLOAD if it does that means that your bricked. But you should be able to fix it using the tool below when running in ubuntu (preferably 32 bit otherwise you need to do extra stuff to download appropriate lib files for ubuntu) (you can run ubuntu from a usb, or full install but the tool will work in a virtual box)

hope this helps

Your positive it was a jb kernel with a jb rom?
Did you use rom or root toolbox and accidentally wipe recovery by chance?
Thats what it sounds anyways
Best case scenario battery is dead and it charges and you can flash recovery thru fastboot. Worse case take it to sprint and play stupid customer and walk out with fresh evo and ask to be allowed to check hboot versions...yes theyll let you ive done it lol

Bought water damaged phone for $20, any chance of bringing back to life?

I found a guy via a local classifieds website selling a Thunderbolt with clean ESN/MEID. He explained he got the phone wet (aparently it didn't get wet enough to trigger the moisture stickers), it worked for a few days and then would no longer power on.
I live 30 miles away from him, so I had a family member meet this person and pay the $20 for the phone. I had him make sure it came with the 32gb micro sd and it did! He is coming to my house this weekend, so I'll get the phone then.
I'll try my wifes Thunderbolt's charger and battery to see if either of these are the problem, but if it is water damaged, would the rice trick do any good at this point? Would leaving it on a heater vent do any good? Any other tricks to try?
Water's already done it's damage, vent nor rice would help.
Maybe open it up and check the internals
You'd have to replace it completely from the logic board, up.
A pain, but if you're that patient, you could repair it. But you don't want to put more money into it than its worth. Especially if its not worth a lot.

Open the phone up - remove battery and cards.
disassemble according tot he videos on youtube. remove the screen from the motherboard (its just two cables.
Soak the motherboard in 98% isoproopyl alcohol. let it soak (it can't hurt) and try cleaning the water deposits with a soft brush. The alcohol will displace the water and it evaporates cleaner than water. Make sure the motherboard is out of the plastic frame of the phone when you do this.
Then put it all together and try charging.
As a last resort u soul try taking to a nationwide chain called Cell Phone Repair (CPR). I took my Thunderbolt that got soaked in a heavy rainstorm and they took it apart, treated it with something (for all I know, it could have been rubbing alcohol as the previous poster suggested ) and returned it to me good as new for $100.

This is exactly why I posted this question, I figured someone would have something I can try.
Thank you, thank you, thank you, I'll let you guys know if it works!!!
No worries, btw, there are dis-assembly videos floating around. eg:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zdPiT82gWKw
and
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ywDkNUxULSQ&feature=fvst
It appears that if you (1) get something that helps you pry it apart (without damaging the phone) and (2) take your time and go step-by-step then taking the phone apart yourself is doable. That said, it might be worth it to have someone who has done a few tackle it if you aren't comfortable with the process shown in the videos. Good luck!
Ok, so I got the phone today. I used my wifes Thunderbolt battery and the phone powered up (YAY!!!) however the touchscreen doesn't seem to work and as soon as the screen goes to sleep, I can't get it to turn on again without pulling the battery and restarting.
My question is...I've read that rooting the phone can cause this issue and noticed that there was a "clockworkmod" folder. Does this mean the phone was rooted?
UPDATE - I just restarted the phone again and as soon as I saw the unlock rainbow thing (for lack of the right word) I was able to drag it down and unlock the phone and it immediately went to a screen asking me to pick my language, both English and French were selected and it seemed to be frozen and eventually the screen went to sleep. I've got the phone plugged into my computer because now it seems to want to charge it's own battery (YAY) and I noticed that the 4 buttons at the bottom of the screen were still illuminated after the screen went to sleep. Then I noticed that the lights at the bottom went out, so I pressed the power button and the phone came on and I was able to use it for about 4 seconds at which point it stropped responding to touch again.
Does this seem like a software issue or should I just replace the digitizer?
I was able to get it to work long enough for me to enable usb debugging, so tomorrow I'll download a program that lets me use my pc as the phones screen. I figure if I can use the phone through the computer without it locking up, then I know for sure it's a digitizer issue rather than a software issue.
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong or should try something else.
I would try reflashing a new ROM and go from there. Can u boot into recovery? If it is a touch recovery, u could test digitizer there.

No, its not rooted at all.
Delete the clockworkmod folder and ANY PG05IMG files from the root of the SD. In fact, I'd reformat the SD entirely.

Or might I add that because it says S-On doesn't mean that its not rooted. S-On just means the bootloader is locked; S-Off means the bootloader is unlocked. If you can, download root checker from the playstore and see if it gains root access... which I doubt it will, but you never know.
There are phones out there with S-On that are rooted.
If this is the case, you'll want to S-Off and install a custom ROM before the ICS OTA drops or you'll have a paper weight.
But I highly doubt this may be your case.

Are you sure it has water damage and not a botched unrooting try? I ask this because you say it has a clockwork folder on the sd card that came with it.

Thats my question..... I was told he got the phone wet and a few days later it wouldn't turn on, but when going throuth the SD card I noticed the clockworkmod folder and thought this was only created when the phone has been rooted and or flashed.
I did some research on the touchscreen not working and see that there are numerous threads stating that a bad rom/flash can cause this, so I'm wondering what my next step would be?
Should I try rooting the phone and just flashing a different rom or would connecting to the phone with a remote control program be a better option? It doesn't appear that the phone is frozen, because the time stays accurate, but sometimes the screen will not turn on after pressing the power button to wake it up, so I just sit it down and after a few minutes try it again, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't????
Delete/reformat the SD card entirely. Reset the phone to factory.
Reroot the phone, get S-off, flash a recovery, and then flash a ROM.
May as well try it out.
It won't hurt anything.
Just a note to get a clean ROM flash:
Clear data/factory reset 3x, clear cache, clear dalvik, and then flash the ROM.

I would also suggest to format system. I usually always include system but one morning after too many sleepless nights and trying to rush things, I formatted sdcard, not system, as they are one after the other in the list in CWM and both begin with 's'. So now I double check and switched to 4EXT.
Sent from my MB860 using xda app-developers app
In 4ext you can just use the format all except sd card and get the same result as a superwipe. Works everytime for me.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk 2
I would try and load 4ext and get rid of CWM. Seen to many people have issues with that recovery. Then wipe everything but your sd card. In your case I would wipe that to. Then just install a new rom. He might have gotten the phone wet but if none of the moisture stickers are triggered then most likely the water didnt reach the internals. So if that does work you just made a hell of a deal. I wouldnt tell the person that you got the phone working as he could call verizon and say his phone was lost or stolen and then the phone would be useless to you and might as well have water damage.
That lying son of a *****!
Oh well, that's craigslist for ya, besides the 32GB SD card is worth it.

[Q] Amaze stopped working.... not getting any signals anywhere

So my phone turns on fine, connects to wifi no issues but my phone does NOT get ANY reception any signals at all!!!! No matter where I go, I've 3 lines and the other two get full reception where as my amaze gets none! It's practically unsusable. There's no physical damage or water damage at all, it's so weird it just stopped working!!!! I tried flashing all the roms I could find, they are all the same, I just simpley can't get any reception! My sim card works though as I'm able to use my sim for other phones so it's not sim card unfortunately. I called TMobile who told me to upgrade with 2 yr contract. I'm 4 months away from my contract and don't want another 2 yr with T-Mobile. PLS PLS PLS PLS help!!!!

Need to know what rom you're running. what kernel, are you s-on or off?
Another thing...
If you remove the battery often, the back of your phone case has contacts that can corrode or get dirty.
Take a pencil with a rubber eraser, orjust an eraser and rub ot on all the gold contacts on the case and the phone main body.
the antennas are in the back case. make sure you dont get any rubber in the phone.
get it cleaned and put back together and see how it does!

Ohh yes, off course - forgot to add that info. I'm S-OFF (jopuntubear) and perm rooted was still on stock rom when this happened. After that I've tried every single rom - viper amaze, cm 10.1, pretty much every single rom with over 4.5 rating, no luck. I also did factory reset, deleted cache and dalvik cache, also deleted all partition except SD card, backed up and formated sd card as well.... did all that i could. And oh I'm on the default kernel (haven't flashed the custom kernel yet).
I'll try the cleaning contacts and pray to god it works

Nope, tried that, didn't work. Also, found a stock rom and flashed it, still didn't work - god this is frustrating!!!! How can it literally just not work, without any kind of damage at all?? Is there any way to troubleshoot? I mean it's not bricked so to speak. It boots up, and loads whatever rom I throw at it, connects to wifi as well just simply no network/signals!! Help please!!!! Arggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

nope, didn't help, still no reception - I've ordered a new back cover to see if that helps (antenna is in back cover for amaze) and keeping my fingers crossed.
One more thing, when i put my PH85img.zip file on ROOT of sd card and when i boot into recovery (4-ext); it does NOT recognize it. I've to go into ext_SD folder and then manually select PH85img.zip which is weird.

Lol I think your doing wrong
1.a ruu can't be loaded from 4ext it only works on bootloader when you name it PH85IMG.zip
2.the zip has to be in the EXT SD card to load ruu cuz it wipe the internal sd in the process

Hmmm that's what I'm saying that for some reason the RUU (named as PH85IMG.zip) does not get recognized at all by 4-ext recovery (still on ROOT of sd-card). the same file PH85IMG.zip when i go into ext_sd folder from 4-ext recovey; i can run it by selecting it manually. Isn't it weird? recovery should be be automatcally recognizing the PH85IMG.zip file :-S

Noooooo it doesn't recognise the ruu only the bootloader recognised the PH85IMG.zip to run a ruu you have to be in bootloader NOT YOUR RECOVERY AKA 4EXT

ha! I think I'm losing it!!!! :cyclops: :crying: Okay, I'll try that as well, although I remember 4ext giving an option for reboot in bootloaded and don't think my phone still recognized the RUU but still, now I can't be too sure on what the heck was I doing so I'll re-test
This same thing happened to me. Restoring didn't help either. Such a weird bug... I wonder if tmobile still does exchanges for amazes?

Nope, I used TMobile chat and phone help and then also went to a T-Mobile shop. They offered me a one-time $30 credit but that was it. No exchanges unless you have their protection plan (insurance)

Well, I just let my phone sit off for a few hours and now it's working again. This is exactly what I did: I took the sim out, left it off for a while, turned it on, turned it off for a while again and then stuck the sim card back in. I hope it helps ngtmobile

Nope it didn't - I've been doing it for last 3-4 days. I flashed roms, ruus, formatted phone, sd card, boot, cursed HTC, amaze, T-Mobile. I kept the phone turned off, stared at it from some distance for a few hours, prayed different lords and chanted "buzz buzzz buzzz buzzz buzzzz" standing on just one leg - none of it helped :silly:
Oh Amaze, why did you do this to me 4-5 months before my contract end date? God damn it!!!!
I'm sorry man. Funny post though!

Okay so here's what I'm doing
1) Place PM85img.zip to the root the external SDcard.
2) Reboot into recovery (power + Vol down)
3) It doesn't recognize PM85img
4) select install zip file and navigate to ext_sd folder where I do see the PM85img, when manually select it; it did take me to Android 2.3 factory reset (Note: the ICS RUU I flashed errored out by saying some build file missing - I'll post the screenshot later).
5) Still no luck with the signals.
NEXT: I'll try to connect the phone to computer and place the file to internal sd storage (root) and see if it picks up the PM85img.zip automatically.
Please let me know if I'm doing anything wrong.

Hmmmm Okay jokes apart; what am I doing wrong? I'm not being ignorant; perhaps I'm missing something simple and not able to realize it 'cos I'm too frustrated with this situation. I've listed the steps to flash stock RUU above.
