So as most of you probably saw, canonical anounced
Ubuntu for tablets.
The hardware requirements are way above the Flyer hardware specs
but maybe there's a chance developers could port it for the Flyer.

I would love Ubuntu on the HTC Flyer. Ubuntu has been ported to devices such as the GS1 and NS I don't see why it couldn't run on the flyer.

I agree... But the situation doesn't change that much from cyanogen: all we need is still drivers, to get cameras and everything else working.
The good news is that with ubuntu we can have a higher numbers of developers working on ROMs and drivers.
For instance, with Linux on desktops you have no problems at all with drivers, whereas cyanogen ROMs works smooth only on few devices.

Its possible in technical terms but will it happen i don't think so it takes a lot of work. They have to make new bootloaders for it , then they have to optimize windows for it, then we need a way to flash the bootloader also. Well atleast im pretty sure thats how it goes.

Agreed.
1) Extremely large and complicated process. In addition to the bootloader, drivers, etc would need to be ported over, especially for the custom closed source 3D features and also depending if you have the 4G WiMAX device, this is closed source as well as the 3D features.
2) Haven't seen any type of community support on any of the forums for undertaking this type of project, i.e. loading Windows onto the EVO 3D.
3) Cell phone life cycles are becoming shorter and shorter. The time developers spend dedicated on specific devices are diminishing.
Sorry to crush your hopes. Unless HTC has released or releases a device hardware wise identical to the EVO 3D which has Windows 7, I'm very confident this will not happen.
Even with the release of a device with similar hardware, I'm say I'm still fairly confident for the above reasons it will not happen.
Hope that helps!
Hi Guys, thanks for reply.
but just curious why I see it working on HD2 as per below link:
http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/24/htc-hd2-can-now-dual-boot-windows-phone-7-and-android-promises/
If HTC releases a device with the same hardware or fairly close hardware, just different OS, it can be done.

how about just install purely WP6.5 or WP7 only is it possible?
have any one try that? I just want to play around with windows mobile, the touch flow 3D seems much better than HTC sense flow.
No one has attempted to port windows to our phone.

I've just read that the new HTC Jetstream (Honeycomb) tablet uses the same SoC as the HP Touchpad (Qualcomm APQ8060) ...
Is it good news for us?

To some degree, yes. The Sensation also shares a VERY similar SoC, though.

I'm seriously about to test an SDK port of ICS for the TouchPad.
The Puccini/Jetstream may help with drivers, actually...

Cheers. I'm about to post an initial ICS port; I already had this though

The hability on the HTC Flyer (don't know about the Jetstream) is having a N-Trig digitizer screen (hardware)... And that's why it's RSP was $700 for a 7" tablet.
EDIT: typo
Thanks for clarifying..... Either way, evernotes new tool 'skitch' does pretty much the same thing without the need for the hardware and the pen

Hi,
as hardware are really similar, you guys think it is allowed to install a HTC One X rom on the XS ?
Cheers
Not similar at all so no.
Sent from my LT26i using Tapatalk 2
LOLing at the OP.
The OneX is a QUAD CORE and the XS is a dual core just for starters. All the hardware is completely different. Had a few joints before you came on XDA did you?
And what !
PC have many different hardware configs, but all can run i.e. Windows

Seriously, hardware is not simillart at all. That is not that simple...

If you want sense UI go to dev section there is a rom with sense UI I think.
Sent from my LT26i using Tapatalk 2
Yes, but it seems it is not maintained anymore
Anyway, thanks for your answer.
i am going to try to port an htc sense rom (4.0) to the P
an port to the s would be possible after that
Good news, keep us informed
Is there any that we'll see Ubuntu custom roms? Or will i have to buy an Ubuntu Phone in order to experience it?

Chances are quite high that we will. Also IIRC Ubuntu said that they will be making their OS compatible with many popular Android devices, so an official Ubuntu ROM can be flashed instead of an Android ROM.

It's possible to see an Ubuntu ROM.
Also they said that they will release an Emulator & SDK for Ubuntu Phone Development until next week, so there is a big chance to see an official ROM released soon....

Sounds Awesome! A smart move by them would be to somehow make android apps compatible with it cuz it will take them a looooong time to get to the amount of apps android already has (if it ever will)...

Im pretty sure you can get android apps to work in ubuntu if you use multiarch.
Ubuntu OS is meant to run on Android (multi-core devices) only I believe. So if you meet this requirement you will get this They also mentioned that other flavors of linux will be released. (Not supported by Ubuntu however)

If you are satisfied with running Ubuntu in parallel with Android, you can always make an Ubuntu ROM yourself, following my HOWTO in my signature.
Good assumption

i think it will need a couple of weeks untill ubuntu "custom roms" will be portet to non nexus devices, because teh only devices that r officially supportet by ubuntu phone are the nexus 4 and the galaxy nexus.
You should know that Ubuntu Phone needs high resources to run on any devices.
There r few Devs at the moment that know how to port this on any device, and most of this r the devs of Ubuntu itself.
I would not name Ubuntu Phone a custom rom because it's not based on Android => it's a mobile OS based on linux but not on android
The first UbuntuPhones will be selled much later there are no at the moment
I've been wondering.. isn't it possible to make a Sense ROM for N9? I know it's GPE, but I've seen Sense to GPE on M8, so isn't it possible the other way?
Of course it's possible under normal conditions, though there's no Sense ROM from a HTC device with similar specs...The N9 is 4:3...has Tegra K1...AND has a 64-bit CPU. All of these things (as well as lack of interest) are obstacles. I have only ported ROMs for older HTC phones like the Sensation & G1, though the N9 has too many red flags IMO.
It's possible to port to a device from a different manufacturer however there are no instances of a 32-bit android ROM booting on 64-bit CPU.

I was a Dev on the HTC flyer/evo view 4g. It really did look good on a tablet lol. I'm considering getting a nexus 9 but only because google has control of its software.
