I'm new to playing around with Android and (after reading for about 10 hours), did my first root and custom ROM last night (shostock3 with jeboo). Things seem good but I do have one problem I just can't shake. When I transfer files from my PC to to the internal SD storage, I can browse the new files on the phone. When I transfer to the external SD card I cannot browse the new files on the phone - it's like they're not there. If I copy a file to the external SD within the phone it remains visible.
There's one exception: image gallery finds and displays the external SD card image and movie files.
Tried rebooting, running SDrescan, not working.
I can't seem to connect via MTP at all anymore, unless I'm missing something. I plugin and have to swipe down and select the mass storage option.
Thanks for your help!
Are you sure you're looking in the right place for the external sd?I know the path has changed and can vary. What file explorer are you using?

I'm using ES File Explorer to look in /sdcard/external_sd. A change in path is the first thing I suspected but I didn't see any similarly named folders.
I installed Asro file manager and can now see the files in "My Files 2". Now I've just thought to check the path of the external sd card images that Gallery found and it is /storage/extSdCard/DCIM.....
I guess /storage the new location and ES File Explorer doesn't see it because it doesn't support viewing back to root? Is the folder that used to port to the external card, "external_sd" dead and worth deleting now?
Why won't my phone connect as an MTP device anymore?
I'm now able to direct Titanium backup to my backup folder in the external SD card (I just had to navigate back to root to find the /storage folder). Next problem is that I can't seem to restore my call logs.
Thanks for any help.

ES File Explorer does support root, you have to enable it in the settings.

Try hitting the Favorite button and tap on the /storage/sdcard1 or anything under there.
Do not go to HOME then external_sd.

I don't think "root access" needed in this case.
Yea!

Certain apps tend to save data on the phone's internal storage which is named "sdcard". So in order to trick those apps to save data on my external sdcard(sdcard2), would it be okay to rename the "sdcard" to "internal storage" and rename "sdcard2" to "sdcard"?
Would that cause any problems?
I like to keep my apps stored on my phone's storage and keep everything else (music, videos, pictures, browser downloads) on my actual sd card.
do it in windows explorer; i renamed mine and it works well still
Could you explain how you did this. I have tried a couple different ways and i am having no luck renaming my sd card file.
I am sure with custom roms we can swap the mount points if we want.

But that's not renaming the folder itself as the phone sees it, that's just modifying what the computer knows to call it in Explorer when you hook it up.
OP, I tried changing it myself and it wouldn't work. I don't think it's possible until root comes along and we can modify file system data and the like. Sucks, and it's stupid that HTC thought it'd be a good idea to name it SDcard, but we're stuck with it for now

Not much worse than moto bionic Havering internel storage as sdcard, and the actual SD card, sdcard-ext.

That's the exact case here. Internal storage on the Rezound is "SDCARD" and the acutal SD Card is "SDCARD2" or "ext_sd" - those two folders are mirrors of each other.
Hi all
I'm new to the whole Android world. Although after a bit of a research I managed to root my phone and installed the resurrection rom for my sgs2.
All is fine with the new rom except that my SD card contents aren't visible in the file manager. But if I connect it to the PC it shows up just fine.
It would be real helpful if someone could give me a solution.
Thanx.

Have you read the FAQ for the rom?
« ¿Where are the files of my External SD?
This time the manage the external sd it's different way, now the external SD it's called /emmc, there are your files. You can access to this folder with any file explorer (even the stock one). Just open the file manager, select the "mnt" button, the one between the Home icon and SD icon. Inside you'll find emmc.
« ¿Ok, but then how set my external SD like "external_sd" instead of "emmc"?

Using root explorer I can se my downloaded files under storage/sdcard0/0/download but when in TWRP I can't find storage or 0 directories. Even after mounting everything and checking both internal and external locations still no luck. It does not show the directory called storage in the root directory. How can I get TWRP to show me these locations?
Sent from my GT-P7510 using Tapatalk HD
Sdcard0/0 is your external sdcard. you need to navigate to ext-sdcard in twrp. If you still cannot find them, then go to mounts section and make sure your external sdcard is mounted.
Are you absolutely positive you're in root? It's easy to get lost in TWRP sometimes. Scroll all the way to the top and tap the dots until you can't anymore. I honestly think your pathway is just off. Go into every section of that directory until you find what you're looking for. I was mistakingly in my internal storage forever and couldn't find the carbon nightly I just downloaded. Finally realized I was getting lost in internal storage.
Also, if you're using the new 2.5 version, it's trickier. I wish I could post a screenie, but it's across the screen horizontally. Tap in the middle, I believe. It will change the storage location.
TWRP is all I use. It reads it. Trust.

Still can't find my device root in twrp. In root explorer app I can see a root folder and a 0 directory, but in recovery file Manager I can't get up to device root. I can't see the folders I know are there in root explorer. I've mounted the SD card and checked both internal and external file locations. Am I'm missing a setting in twrp to let me explore root?

I know this is an age old question, but I figured I'd give it a shot. I was wondering what my best option was to get apps and/or their data onto my microsd card. I've tried the method with Directory Bind, but I wasn't to big a fan. Just looking for a point in the right direction, for the easiest/quickest/best method.(I have already rooted my phone, so rooting isn't an issue)
Also while I'm here what's the best method of free tethering, again with the rooted ability.
Same here! I've tried the foldermount method and using shortcuts with the root explorer in Rom manager to no avail. But, for someone with some knowhow, I've accidentally got it to work with Spotify. I don't know for the life of me what I have done, but between hours of using the above to methods, Spotify is now on my external Sd card. I can uninstall spotify, wipe data, cache, the whole nine yards and when I reinstall, boom, straight to my sd card. I can reformat my sd card, and when I install spotify, it will create a folder named Android/data/com.spotify.mobile.android.ui folder. on my sd card. All the songs i download goes in the same directory just like it did under sdcard0 on the internal memory. But now, I can't replicate this at all. I'm trying with zedge, but no luck. If I find anything, I'll post back to this thread.
I downloaded a couple of apps, but when i open ES file explorer i cant find the apps,it suppose to be in the download folder.I did check in the sd card0 and in the ext sdcard and no lock.

First time I tried with Directory Bind I was able to move the game file to the sd, but when opening the app it requires downloading the files, so it can't find them in the new Directory. The next time was short lived because I couldn't find files for most recent app

Doesn't titanimum backup allow this? I've never personally tried it but I thought I saw a move app to SD card option.
From what I understand this cant be done on JB.

If you have a backup made, your fine. If not, its lost.
Don't delete system folders unless you know what you're doing.

On a scale to one to ten? About a 8.
If you have rooted your phone, you can get an undelete app (like Fahrbot's Undelete for Root Users on the Market) and recover the folder... hopefully. There's a chance it won't catch the files or whatever. If you're not rooted, I don't think it would be possible to get them back, but I may be wrong (check Google, they may know).
In case you were wondering why this happened, I'll tell you. Android is based on Linux. Linux has these links to files/folders called symlinks. Now, for whatever reason it is, Android has multiply links to the sdcard (probably to help with compatibility). So while they may look like two different folders, they lead to the same place. Think of it as two doors to the same house.
Good luck!
If you are on a 4.2 ROM (One found in Original Development):
The SDcard0 and SDcard are all links to /Data/Media/0. Use a root browser to navigate here and see of your SD cards contents are here. I'm not sure if deleting a symlink will also delete its source, so you may still have the SDcard just not a way to access it without root permissions. If you can see your SD card in /data/media/0, PM me and I'll try to help you restore it. If you don't see anything here, or don't see your SD cards contents (before wipe), I'm sorry to say this but your pretty screwed.
