jje.. Your responses, whilst always amusing, are sounding more and more angry by the day.... probably bored of writing the same thing over and over, but I suggest a nice camomile tea and some fresh air.
How come you're not a mod anyway? You always get there quicker than they do!

[Q] How to put roms on etc

hi all i just got my galaxy s2 today and have no idea where to start with putting a rom on ot anything. so any help would be great thanks
First you need to be rooted(your phone not you)and then go to the Development section and you will find a list of different ROMs.Its a matter of finding what you want in a ROM and downloading and trying each one.Usually the ROM page has the download and install instructions writen on it.You need to be rooted to have CWM.Ill leave a link to my ROM so you can see what I mean.Below the different ROM versions you will see install instructions. If your not sure what root is let me know
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1290468
Spend some time using your phone to get used to It before flashing. This will give you a better idea of what you like and don't like about it.
Armed with that info you can read up on each custom Rom to see if they offer what you want.
Read read and when you think you are ready to flash read some more.

X2 read alot, play with the phone, figure things out. There is so much to learn so you don't turn your phone into a brick. Rooting means you become a superuser, you take ownership so you can customize your phone.

Thanks im sure it wont well i hop not lol
Please don't even think about flashing a custom rom or rooting your phone until you're comfortable/confident enough to do it without making posts like this.
I have seen so many people in your situation on here stuff their phone up over the last few weeks because they were in too much of a hurry to mess with their phone.
AceOfClubs (and others) has given you good advice, heed it :-|
Read the CFRoot thread until you are so confident with rooting the phone that you could do it in your sleep, and then root your phone with the CFRoot kernel that corresponds to your current stock kernel. Not before.
From there, read the various development threads about different roms/kernels, get to know the various features/advantages of each (and ask questions if necessary...about the rom/kernel itself, not the process of flashing same) and then when you've settled on a rom or kernel and you're completely confident about the flashing process, flash it.
Doing this will mean you'll get it right the first time. This will result in:-
A) You not posting yet another "OMG mah fone is teh brikked helpz !" thread.
B) You not having to do without using your phone for x days (weeks) should you mess it up.
Clear ? Good

Root is changing the kernel in your phone to give you super user access which is needed to flash ROMs and firmwares. Also along with flashing there are other things to read up on like an EFS/IMEI file backups which are vital, also nandroid and Titanium backups. As you can see there are alot of good people here willing to help with good advice and all are correct in saying that you shouldnt rush into things.Take your time, read up and dont be afraid to ask questions.Play with your phone and when you know it well enough and have seen enough threads on what and what not to do then you can take the first step and root.First read up on rooting then EFS/IMEI backups and why they are needed. The rest will come in time.Id rather see you here asking questions and not in another thread saying "Help I just bricked my phone!!"

not to sound rude by saying this but i would not root or try flashing anything till you do your reading my friend. you already bricked one phone as you said and you are lucky that you got another one. enjoy your phone for now no harm on being on stock and do alot of reading.....
Read the bottom links:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1134290
and how to root read here and follow the guide carefully:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
Once you feel comfortable with what you have read then go ahead and root your phone. the second link will be very helpful but please do your reading first

if you ever need help just PM me and i see if i can help out.. but yeah do the reading and you should be fine...pretty straight forward really..Those two links should help you out and it is always good to read like last ten pages of the thread and first ten or twenty... Do not forget to hit that thanks button if i helped out
Yep, pulling the USB will do a nice job of bricking you are very lucky to get a new phone!
As the kind soul above said, do plenty of reading! Never ever pull the USB, that is rule number one and its just about the only way we can truly brick our phones.
Also as I noticed, you want lite'ning ROM. Well that ROM is no longer supported and is running on the older 2.3.4. There is however a couple of nice chaps who are carrying on that legacy and its now running on 2.3.6.
Here is the link for that ROM!

T-Mobile S3 Rooting Problems

I have managed to get my phone back and it's rooted
I had CWM v3.6. I searched and searched for CWM v6, but couldn't find it anywhere (not on its own as a download anyway), so I installed Philz Touch
CWM now gives an error ""This version of CWM Manager should be used with CF-CWM v1.1 or newer...."
I tried to install Cyanogenmod 10, but get an assert error status 7
I can't go into Play Store - I get "Error while retrieving information from server [RH-01]"
I also get "Android is upgrading" "Optimising application x of 76" every boot
Can I put my phone back as it was or can anyone help with the above pretty please

Why on earth is it the wrong forum ??????
Do you not understand the model range ???

wrong forum since T-Mobile S3(SGH-T999) is a different model entirely from the international S3(i9300).dont be offended,he isnt being rude to you, just telling you to go to the correct forum before you get help from people who didnt notice that yours is a t-mobile model and give you links from this forum and then you brick your device.(like give you a link to the CF Root for i9300).
But mine IS an I9300.
And if I am wrong, wouldn't it be better to point me in the right direction rather than just tell me I'm wrong? How would I learn? My point is that if you can't be bothered to help, don't reply with such a negative post. I had basically screwed my phone, was in a pretty bad place and needed your HELP, not "wrong thread wrong forum wrong model!! Search next time please"
As for searching - spookily I did try try that, both on here and Google, but with nearly 3.5 million posts on here searching isn't the exact science you think it is.
Seems some people come here just to argue I won't be back!
before anything else, breath deeply and then let it out.get some fresh air and have a chill pill.when youve calmed down, try to answer my questions and il try to help you if i can.put yourself on my shoes and try to understand its hard to help a person who is raging.
first,i would need you to confirm that even if your on T-Mobile,you have the i9300 international version as opposed to SGH-T999.
then as what youve said above, things seem to have gotten out of hand and complicated so i have 2 options for you:
1. we can try to fix your whacked system OR
2. if you dont mind, flash stock sammy over again and il help you with rooting and whatever you want after your rooted.
I am perfectly calm thank you - I fixed my phone by staying up all night
LaZyDood, I am grateful that you wish to help, but I am fine now.
I just can't get over the attitude of Ausboy - If that's the mentality of the members on here, I won't ask for help again
(BTW - as I said above, I DO have an I9300 )
good to know you fixed it.have fun trying out all the custom roms and mods.enjoy
Why would anybody think that TMobile is only a USA company .
Why would anybody from the UK have a USA TMobile phone ???
Where has their OP posted he has T-Mobile S3(SGH-T999).
Fact is he posted in the correct forum from the start but got a reply based upon ignorance .

Just look at the 3. post in the neatrom thread. There is everything explained. I would recommend the second method to ensure that everything works. And don't forget to make a backup!

ok i have already seen the instructions, but besides that do i need to check what CWM i am using in order to update it or anything like that?
is there any bug or something i have to be carefull?
Youll soon find all the bugs, and fixes when you read all of the 76,000+ posts in the thread.

well all roms are made by our loved Devs with a lot of hardwork..... but then sometimes there are some bugs which are present in a rom.....they are removed as soon as reported.....every rom goes through testing phase and then comes to a stable build....... Neatrom 5.3.1 you referred to is a great version.....i myself is using it..... haven't found any bug yet.....but then we all are humans........

I'll try to make it simpler for you.
A rom is created.Over time, loads of users flash it to their phone. They then report problems that arise on their phones(bugs). The developer/s look into the situation and issue updates/fixes.
So,in that thread you looked at,there is over 76,000 posts, and there may even be another thread about the rom(a discussion thread),with 1000's of posts also.
In effect, there could be 100's of different situations where something doesnt work(whereas it used to work on samsung stock rom or whatever rom you used before).Or you flash the rom and you just plain dont like it.Did you waste your time reading 1000's of posts about the rom, when you remove it after 5 minutes use?.
Or are you just plain lazy and expect others to do all the donkey work for you(you open up a thread to save you reading that rom thread)?.
These are the factors you have to think about before you do anything.
The "spirit" of this forum is for you to try out roms for yourself,do a bit of research to understand what can go wrong,or the pros and cons.
Since you joined 5 minutes ago,you can post in the noobs area of this forum and ask any questions you like there.
I do not use custom roms, for the reasons I mentioned earlier.Ive not a lot of time spare to read about bugs in rom threads, only to find I dont like it.
Also, there is dozens of combinations concerning roms. There is normally various kernels and modems to "try",which can make your phone act differently.
Then when you do everything properly, and like the rom after everything, you find battery life is crap!.
-------------------------------------------
maybe your an iphone expert
------------------------------------------
Forgot to say;get odin working in case you need it later. Also backup your efs folder, and make nands before you change roms.
Then you can quickly revert back if your not satisfied with new rom/s.

" Something Similar " <---- what do you mean???? if you are just shooting arrows in dark please stop..... .if you are too afraid to flash another rom...... then it is a decision you must take by your self....... as every post is written you are responsible for what happens to your phone........ no one else....... so please read , read and read before flashing anything
everything will have an issue if you are not willing to try....... there are so many of us trying different versions......update to latest CWM...... read phliz CWM thread...... i found it very very useful..... thanks philz .......
i actually re-rooted my phone to remove that triangle from boot........and thanks to hard work of philz....it is now gone :cyclops:
so kindly try......if you dont try...... then there is very less we all can help in.......
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
What on earth are you talking about.........spammer.The rom thread tells him the starting point/requirements for flashing.
And you dont need to use philz for anything. You flash any compatible rooted kernel in order to use Triangle Away by "Chainfire"....not Philz. And if you are on GB/old bootloader, you use a usb jig to remove triangle.

I've download various MOAR roms and get the same problem with each one.
Any help would be awesome,

Yeah, ya all right. Wrong firmware for the phone! Only getting stated playing around with rooting so quite a bit to learn. I've gone for android revolution which is working well.
