How to uninstall Rom+Kernel (IcyFusion/Steve's)? - Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0, 5.0

I installed a clean stock and reset my galaxy player before installing Steve's Kernel and the IcyFusion Rom. Unfortunately after having tested for a few weeks, I feel that the kernel/rom is not for me as it's caused performance issues and video playback problems especially with Netflix. Just wondering if it would be possible to go back to the stock firmware without using a kernel and what steps would I take while keeping my data. Would I make a backup using clockwork recovery and then clear cache etc and use Odin to flash the stock rom?
I just use my device at home usually or for maps outside so performance is more important than the battery. Thanks

Really? Cause when I used Icy Fusion + Klin's R3 Kernel netflix and video playback were fine. What resolution and codec where the files by the way? Anyway if you make a CWM Backup, It's just going to backup what ever your kernel and rom is now, so when you restore the backup it's going to be the same rom/kernel you're trying to get rid of. You have to wipe/data so you don't get bootloops when restoring to the stock rom and kernel with odin. Now what you can do is backup your apps and data using Titanium Backup so when you restore your apps your data should still be there

[Q] Systemtray not working

Hello,
I switched from WanamLite for Foxhound and I must say everything is working great. No more freezes, crashes and my geolocation ifnally is accurate again.
I followed all installation instructions, format /system, factory reset wipe cache and dalvik and installed.
The only problem Im having is that some of the systemtray icons arent working. The ones that are working is random. So im able to toggle GPS but not to toggel wifi, an hour later wifi is working but data is disabled. etc.
Anyone has any idea what this could be?
sometimes the package dosnt open fully so if ur facing prblm then its better to hav a fresh installation,,an also many will carry tb backup all the way frm stock to custom roms so even tht gives a prblm to many out here......cheeeeerz

I never restore anything else but applications when I'm switching roms, not systemdata whatsoever. Would it be possible to flash a different systemui instead of reinstalling the rom? Or could I just reinstall the rom without resetting the system all over again, spent hours to rebuild my settings etc ><
Why don't you redo the procedure once again, wipe cache then dalvik, format system then flash the package via recovery.
Errors could happen, so no harm if you try it again.
If not try the latest wanam 10.6 version it is almost perfect or you can always go back to a stock ROM and use Siyah kernels, I'm on XXLPQ with Siyah b6, very stable tremendous battery life. (you should test different kernels though and stick to the best)

For some reason I always have troubles with my geolocation and gps working very slow or not at all on different kernels then stock. Thats why I switched to foxhound. Ill redo the complete procedure tonight to see if it helps.
Thanks for the info so far.

YP-G1 - No Lockscreen or Boot Menu

The title pretty much says it all. This has been going on for a while now, and it's starting to annoy me. Does anybody have a fix for this? I couldn't seem to get any of the fixes from other Galaxy S devices to work.
did you revert to stock from cm7?

The only time I have seen this happen is when returning to stock from either the CM7 betas or any of the ROMs built off of it, and the reason for it is you lost your EFS data and unless you have a backup of that (CWM backups DO NOT have this backed up).
If you do indeed have an EFS backup then you can use Zaclimon's recovery thread and just add the EFS to that, that is the proper fix.
If you where a total newb like I was and completely lost it because you thought a CWM backup was enough, the only "temporary" fix is to flash Klin's IcyFusion, Han's Etheral or Dream Ultra then reboot into CWM recovery and "wipe data / factory reset" then reboot player, this will restore the boot menu and lockscreen for aslong as you run any of those ROM's but if you go back to stock it will vanish again.
Well, I somehow lost it when I wiped data on klin's klassic. A restore of data fixed it, and I haven't wiped my data since or gone back to stock so idk if it is still there.

Thanks. I guess i will be using one of those roms you mentioned.
UPDATE: Ethereal did not fix EFS. As a matter of fact, it broke my home button.

Using Zaclimon's recovery method to go back to stock is the only way i've been able to fix the home button when Ethereal broke mine (this seams to be another side effect of losing the efs). restore to factory with zac's method thru heimdall (using a different usb port other then the one used for Odin) then Odin flash to Icy Fusion and Terrasilent kernel and follow previous instructions.
I did go back to stock rooted, and i think i will be staying there for the forseeable future because it seems that there arent any mature kernels or ROMs for this device - too unstable.
At any rate, am i correct in assuming that my EFS issues are related to (the abomination that is) TouchWiz, and that AOSP builds of Android do not have this issue? Ive never heard of this outside of Samsung devices.

I don't think so, what happened to me was I flashed one of the CM7 beta's and since they convert every partition from rfs to mtd it messed with my efs partition and so since I didn't have a backup of the EFS it was lost (CWM backups DO NOT backup the efs), from what I have gathered it holds your serial number and stuff like that which is why the deviceID hack implemented in Icy Fusion is able to "fill in the blanks" and that is what causes it to come back while on that ROM, I don't see how it can have anything to do with touchwiz, I use LauncherPro myself.
Icy Fusion and Dream Ultra are stable ROM's I haven't had any problems with them (other then Dream Ultra coming up in Russian after doing a wipe data/factory reset, but thats easy enough to fix) and the Terrasilent kernel is totally functional as long as you don't reboot into recovery on a ROM where you've converted all partitions to ext4, just load up a program like Tegrak or my choice of No Fills CPU tuner and change the governor to smartass V2. I couldn't conceive running stock at this point.

[Q] P7510 (p4wifi) tab freezing all the time

Hi all,
Lately my tab is freezing at random moments. When opening gmail, youtube, browsing, settings, .. I can't use it longer than 5min or it will crash.
I'm running CM 10.1 nightly 20130118, Kernel 3.1.10-cyanogenmod (never upgraded this).
I have also tried older CM versions (CM 10, older CM10.1's, CM9) and AOKP -> same problem.
When I install a new rom I always wipe cache partition, wipe data/factory reset, wipe dalvik cache first.
I'm running CMW Recovery v6.0.2.7. Today I also installed a new bootloader (US_LPL_4.0.4_bootloader) but still the same issue.
Any ideas? Is it possible to do a harder reset than I already do? Should I maybe install a kernel update?
Thanks!
either you are overclocking and not stable, keep installing back the same bad app which is wreaking havoc, restoring from an old TB backup which is not playing nice on current stuff, installing some hack/mod which is wreaking havoc, or you have a hardware issue.
odin back to stock ics (this will completly wipe the whole tab out) and observe for a few days.

Never overclocked so I'm afraid it's a HW issue.
Just installed stock ics and it still freezes after a few minutes (without installing any apps).
Guess I'm gonna try to put everything default again (I still have those 0/0/0 folders from JB) and return it to the shop..

Jeps... Sounds like a hw issue if it is still causing the crashes on stock, how long do you use your tab now? maybe it has nothing to do with time, but just want to know..

I have it for about 9 months now but never really used it alot. I think in total maybe 40-50hours (watching movies on holidays etc).
I did leave it on the table once while the sun was shining through the window so that might have overheated the tab a bit.. Not sure if the issues started right after that. I could still watch a movie on it etc, now it crashes after 5min max.

I have the same setup as you and my tablet starts to crash this week. Gmail won't stay for 2 mins
Try this!
You need to wipe it clean and make sure your 16G is not getting full. You can use any file manager ap to start your clean up, which is all you need if the hardware is not damaged. Ok, so go to root and remove any excess file you might have, this will eliminate memory issues. Next, reboot into recovery, hope you are rooted, then wipe everything including delvic. Install your ROM [INFAMOUS_2.2], the best I have tested, and reboot your system. If you can't do this you need to reinstall CWM, I use 5.5.1.7, and then reflash your rom. If this doesn't get you back in the clouds contact me.

[Q] upgrade procedure to KK rom

Hey there,
I'm currently on Newt's rom version 2.0 (Android 4.1.2) on my DNA.
From what I can tell, there are some pretty decent roms out there now.
I'd like some help with understanding which is the best rom available (least known bugs such as voip issue or wifi trobule). Had my eye on santod's NuSense. Is the kernel replacement (NuKernel) stable and recommended?
And besides that, I'd love it if someone could help me understand what is the exact procedure I need to go through when upgrading (radio, hboot, etc.).
And besides that, what free backup app do you recommend? TB is great but restoring with the free version is quite frustrating..
Thanks a bunch!

Honestly I had been going from rom to rom, and just restoring from my nandroid backups using nandroid manager. I had been running CM11, but with older radios and firmware. I decided it was time to fully wipe and start fresh, while also upgrading radios and firmware.
First I copied all my data and pictures onto my computer. Next I ran the 3.06 RUU to get me somewhat up to date. Then I ran the KK firmware update zip that santod had in his stock KK thread. After that I installed his GPE edition rom to try it out. It was missing some features I liked in CM11 so I decided to wipe and go back to CM. I installed that, along with crpalmers kernel and the motox KK dalvik libs for CM11. Since then I would say my phone is running better than ever. More battery life, faster, its just nice. I have 0 issues with CM11, no problems at all with GPS or wifi.
TL DR might be best to copy data off and RUU, start fresh. I recommend CM11, especially if you arent the biggest fan of Sense. For backups I just do a backup from within CWM, and restore using nandroid manager
Well actually I really like sense..
And about the backup I was referring to something similar to TB (apps and such)..
But thanks anyways

Nandroid manager will restore apps from your CWM backup, as well as texts and a few other things
coolness..
Well, I think I'm to upgrade to @santod040 rom..
Does WiFi/VoIP work correctly? Any other known issues?
So if I understand correctly, the procedure is as follows:
1. Install TWRP 2.7.0.0 - done
2. Perform Nandroid backup - done
3. upgrade hboot and radio to latest version
4. wipe data+cache
5. flash ROM
6. flash kernel (NuKernel?)
7. boot rom
8. recover data with Nandroid Manager
did I miss anything?
thanks alot!

Format /system as well before you install the ROM. Other than that, you should be golden. Worst comes to worst you can just restore, but you should be fine I've done pretty much this exact same thing several times without issue. Wifi works but Im not sure about VOIP (never used it)

Youtube Playback not working (and other issues)...

Hello guys,
From the title, you might wonder what it has to do with the Z2 Tablet but I know for a fact it's the tablet and not the apps.
A few months back, I tried custom Roms; it all went fine until I tried CyanogenMod. The Rom itself was quite good but it messed up with the Recovery Partition, forcing the installation of the crappy Cyanogen Recovery (although the option to install it with updates was deactivated in the settings; I still don't understand how it got there). I had a hard time installing permanently another Recovery, it always got back to Cyanogen Recovery after a reboot.
A few issues also started to appear on non-Cyanogen ROMS : Adway wouldn't work. Titanium Backup sometimes couldn't find the backups. Youtube playback wouldn't work with the latest version. Gifs would never load on Relay for Reddit. It took me a while to realize that it was related to the ROM, until I actually tried Cyanogen again...where everything worked, sometimes using the same Titanium Backup for the apps !
I got fed up about this, so I decided to revert to full stock (latest 5.1) using the proper FTF.
And you know what ? Youtube Playback is not working, Gifs won't load in Relay. Can't speak for TiBu and Adaway as I didn't root but I'm sure they wouldn't work either. I'm also sure that other apps that I don't use have issues.
Do you have any idea what could be the source of these troubles ? Because if flashing a stock FTF still didn't fixed them, I think Cyanogen damaged my tablet more deeply than I thought...
Thanks !
Did you wipe data?
Not wiping data when going from cyanogen to stock causes problems very similar to yours. (only wiping cache isn't enough)
Sent from my SGP521 using XDA Premium HD app
I always wipe the datas when changing roms. And I did wipe the datas when I flashed the FTF as well...
OGYoutube won't work as well. If only I could identify the issue...
Ok, here's the solution : I forgot to relock my bootloader...
so.. that's so strange. how relocking the bootloader fixes the youtube problem? I've got the same problem with youtube, BUT only with original sony 5.0.. 5.1 firmware. with 4.4.2 or cyanogenmod doesn't happen.
