[Q] Droid X=Droid X2 - Motorola Droid X2

I acquired a droid x and the hardware keys look similar to the x2 can i switch them over to the droid x2 because the x2 buttons are shot

If you have the "know how" then I dont see why not. They are technically the same hardware.

So after dissecting the phone ive come to the conclusion that the parts did indeed change. digitizer ribbon on the x is bigger the mid frame on x will not properly seat in the x2 body their are several electronics thats should touch that just dont..as it appears it is the same but internally it is very much different btw i couldnt use the button panel off the x because A its attached to the mid frame with what appears to be superglue on steroids and B the connectors are different...fyi if anybody ever wondered...

Yah that glue sucks but with a good heat gun you can get it off and thanks for the information
don't be scared it's only a phone :smokin:

Just came home with my Razr!

I just traded my Bionic for the Razr and my first impression is WOW!!! i was concerned it would be too thin, but this phone feels VERY solid and nice in my hand. It's very fast and I love the AMOLED screen, people really need ot stop thinking this phone has the pentile display, it is a gorgeous AMOLED. I just wanted ot give my first impression,,,
Thinking of replacing the bionic as well. I threw my droid x off a wall a week early, so I had to get the bionic in the meantime. Have 14 days to return it so I must go see the RAZR in person. Thinking that the display is probably better, like the thinness, but not so crazy on the non removable battery.
i agree about the battery, but i have a charger at work and in my car, so it won't be a problem for me. Even if the battery doesn't last all day (I've never owned a droid that did anyway) this phone is well worth any sort of trade off. I'm serious, this thing is super thin and super fine. And it's not a flimsy thin like the GS2, its solid, like holding a solid piece of glass...
Played with a razr at big red earlier and must agree the screen is really attractive. Snappy too! Overall I may just trade my x for it. Sbf here I come!
Giggity
My RAZR will arrive to me on Monday.
I agree about the battery thing, everytime I buy a device, I also buy two backup batteries in case I need them.
Anyway, I'll see if I may need a mini portable battery charger (battery to battery)....
Oh, I also have a Motorola Lapdock for ATRIX that can be used as a backup battery.. haha

Unfortunately that won't fit (unless you use a micro usb extension cable. )
The connectors are swapped. RAZR has the same connector positions as the Bionic.

[Q] Need some help deciding if I should buy the RAZR

My contract was up in July but until now there haven't been any phones worth buying. Now the RAZR is out and the Nexus is coming. My phone is literally falling apart and doesn't charge anymore, I have to the wife's phone to charge my battery.
I went and looked at the RAZR and I was really impressed. I liked it a lot but I'm still not sure I want it more than the Nexus.
Do any of you guys have buyers remorse? Do you wish you had held out for the nexus? Originally I thought the nexus would be out by now and I would simply be able to compare the two devices, but now its not clear if the Nexus will be out before december and I really don't think my phone will make it that long.

You can buy it now (Nov. 15th-Dec. 28th) and be able to return it until Jan. 9th. If the Galaxy Nexus comes out by then, I'm probably going to return the Razr because of the Super AMOLED HD screen and Ice Cream Sandwich. Gonna miss the build quality though, Samsung and their plastic, lol.
I would never go back to a Samsung again, ever, if at all possible. Had the fascinate & had so many missed call issues that vzw gave me the Droid x2 as a free upgrade only 9mos into my contract w/o interfering with my last yearly upgrade eligibility. The x2 has been flawless & the only reason I cashed in my upgrade was because my wife's Dinc crapped out & she loved my x2, so she has that now & I have the Razr & everyone's happy.
Seriously though, if you are in any type of marginal signal area & you need your phone to be a phone, I'd go Razr.

Went from BB to Fascinate to ThunderBolt to Razr. I really like the weight and thin ness of the Razr. I prefer the size of the Fascinate as it is overall smaller but thicker.
No remorse, love the phone.
Totally loving this phone, had it yesterday. I have nothing really as a downside, had an Xperia X10 before so I feel like this phone is way more snappy and quick than the other! I chose it because I have no idea when the Galaxy Nexus will come to Canada and we get the candies always late lol. Now once it's in Canada, I have to wait for Rogers to get it.. so probably the Ice Cream Sandwich update will be out at this time for the RAZR. Totally not regretting my choice!
Came from Droid X to Razr, I would never look back. I just rooted it with zero issues! No citation roms yet but that's ok, this phone is crazy fast and so thin! Yes, battery life is not great but hey, its 4G LTE!

so far the only thing holding me back from buying the razr is the screen. I want to know how it compares to other screens, especially the new HTC <stupid name I can't remember but has something to do with audio>. I heard HTC has a very impressive screen.
compared to the other current phone , razr's screen can't really compete in terms of ppi.
What I want to know is if this is really something I would notice or should care about?

You mean HTC ReZound??
Yea, this is the highest DPI out in the market. BUT, HTC is infamous for giving a very high dpi with an equally bad battery life... the HTC Desire (or was it Desire HD?) needs to be charged at least twice a day...no matter what others say, thats bad...

The reviews of the Rezound for the "HD" screen states theres not much difference between its screen and the RAZRs screen. Also its like 13.7 mm thick, so it's your choice on what you want to do.
well, i regret buying the razr because for some reason my razr has the green tint problem on low brightness, and black spots inside the screen when viewing something black, maybe a defective screen or a pre-release model, but sent it in to motorola to check it out, but other than that, if it was a pre-release, its a perfect phone.
as far as the ppi goes, its more than anyone needs, honestly, the only ppl who care about ppi vs ppi are spec whores, this phone is great and gives ppl the ;'wow'factor, and makes the iphone4s boys go jealous =p
CanI ask why screen res and ppi is really that important? Movies and games look perfect to me on the gaint razr screen and crappy on the tiny retina iphone screen.

Coming from an Atrix 4G, no regrets. This is super fast, thin, stylish, strong and yet feels like a feather.
Looked at a Rezound next to my Razr at a vzw store yesterday & I feel totally vindicated for buying the Razr. The difference in ppi was not immediately noticeable under normal lighting & text looked fine on both. The color reproduction on the Razr's amoled screen was better & it was brighter overall @ low brightness. What got me was how much snappier the Razr seemed. Ran smartbench 2011 on each & the Razr scored better as well. The Rezound looks like a bigger Incredible2 & doesn't have the heft of the Tbolt or Evo.

Your screen shouldn't have a green tint, I'd look into getting a replacement. AS for the black "blotches" during load screens and some black screens that has been confirmed as "normal" per motorola. They stated it will not get in the way of your viewing pleasure. I've only had the black blotches on like scene changes in some netflix movies/load screens. So really it's not a big deal at all, as it doesn't interfere with anything. If you see it all the time, then it just reaffirms that you have a defective screen.

Rezound benches lower than RAZR on pretty much every test. Even in everyday performance RAZR > Rezound. Rezound gets choppy/laggy with live wallpaper, slapped some on my RAZR and no choppiness at all. I guess that's why they added the $100 headphones with it! To make up for the poor performance in todays smartphone market.
How is the thickness from left to right of the screen? Is it as hard to hold as some of the reviews are saying? Do any of you have a case on it, I would think that would make it even wider.
It is pretty wide. I just got mine today. Thought I'd try it out, see how development progresses for the first month or so, and see how the Nexus pans out in real life. The Verizon extended return period really helps.
But, like I was saying, it's pretty wide. I have a case on it - the kickstand case/holster combo from vzw - because I want it to be in good shape if I decide to return. It's slightly wider with the case, but even naked, I have a hard time reaching down to the menu button. That's the one that seems to be hardest to me. Other than that one button, it feels good in the hand and I can touch the rest of the screen.
Thanks, I always need a somewhat thick case on my phone so I don't think the Razr will work for me. Appreciate the feedback. I'll probably end up going with the nexus even though it is a fairly wide phone it self...
Just got mine, it is wide, if you have McD's hands then yea you will have a hard time, even though I got Burger King hands this phone took a lil to get used too. Once you hold this phone you don't want to put it down. My wifes ryme feels like a brick compared to this machine, in fact every phone feels heavy. Was waiting for the G-Nex but really happy with the Razr. One bug found so far, nothing major. This thing is FAST!!! Waiting to root, but even w/o root it's still fast. Motorola did a good job with this one.

Differences betweem Razr & Bionic

Other than form factor, what are the differences?? Trying to decide which to get
Other than form factor (which really is quite a difference), you have the following:
-RAZR has a sAMOLED screen compared to the Bionic's LCD (you can pretty much stop reading here; that alone is a HUGE and noticeable, everyday difference)
-RAZR is clocked to 1.2GHz vs. Bionic's 1GHz (same TI OMAP 4430 processor, though, I believe)
-Reports seem to show the RAZR doesn't have the data drop issues the Bionic does; this helps with battery, too, though it may be fixed in the upcoming Bionic patch.
-Nano coating (i.e. splash proof; I don't think the Bionic has this)
-Smart Actions app
Otherwise, they're both very similar. Same 8MP camera with 1080p capture, same RAM, same storage, same Android version. But you really have to use a RAZR and see if it makes a difference to you. A couple of small but significant differences can often add up to a very enhanced user experience. Also, form factor is not to be discounted. The kevlar back and thin profile are really very nice; this is the most premium feeling phone I've ever held. It also disappears in my pocket. I have this huge, 4.3" screen phone in my pocket and I literally can't tell it's there when I'm walking about; it really is that thin and light.
If you haven't purchased either, I'd get the RAZR. If you already have a Bionic and don't have a pending upgrade, I'd hold off on getting the RAZR. If you're going to use another line to upgrade and let someone else inherit your Bionic, then it's a tough call whether to get the RAZR or wait for something else (GNEx? quad core? something else?). In any case, you wouldn't be disappointed with a RAZR; excellent device.
Not sure what the difference is, but the bionic has Android 2.3.4 and RAZR has 2.3.5. Both will get ICS and my guess is they will both get it around the same time.

Both good phones.
I had a Bionic and gave it to my wife when the Razr was announced.
I like the both. The Razr is just sleeker.
A few tweaks on the OS and some cosmetic differences, but they really are the same.
dont forget how crappy the front camera is on the bionic! takes garbage pitures compared to the razr... i had the bionic and returned it for the razr.... also the razr has smart actions... which i started to use but purchased juice defender ulitmate and tasker... i get excellent battery life compared to stock battery on Bionic... I will say this... for some reason... i did get better bench marks on cf bench with the bionic... but my bionic was garbage... Black Screen Of Death... my bottom button lights would go off and not come back on.... then the two out side buttons were lighter (yellow ish) like the lamp was burning out.... The blurr experience is tighter and crisper on the razr as well... and if you are wanting ICS it just came aboard as of yesterday to the RAZR... I really think you will enjoy the razr better... super sleek and sexy... and the screen is just awesome... people will notice the razr in your hands twice as fast as a plain old looking bionic.... but hey.. thats my 2 cents... good luck..

New Razr Maxx battery for standard Razr?

Since the recently announced Razr Maxx has the same hardware specs as the existing Razr, but with a larger battery & rear case, does this mean there could be potential to replace the battery/rear case on our existing Razr devices?

Yea. Neither phone can replace battery. Iono. You are probably thinking the front and back shells will align and fit so that you may use the maxx battery on the regular razr. Too early to tell that. If battery is the the thing. Id rather spend 30 bucks on a battery pack that $300+ for the new razr.

Hear that! I got into the habit of charging my previous Android phone (Milestone XT701) overnight, while in my office and in my car. See no reason to change that with the RAZR! Also installed JuiceDefender Plus—which does help.
It's the price we pay!

Just spent 20 minutes with the Maxx at CES today, and the phone is MUCH thicker than the RAZR.
Don't believe the hype. This is more a Droid X2 replacement than a RAZR. The faceplate is the same, but the back piece is completely different, and there's no way it would be a simple modification to get the battery to go into the OG RAZR.
I'll keep my OG RAZR just fine, based on the size of the Maxx. The battery life would be good, but I'm not going to be rushing out to get one.
On the other hand, I would give up the extra thickness for the keyboard on the Droid 4. That was definitely the nicer of the 2 devices.
I'm actually thinking I'll be moving over to that next month when it comes out. I miss my keyboard from my OG droid & D2G, and it's a bit shorter than the RAZR so it's more pocket friendly, even with the extra girth.

Yeah little bit thicker but cant be any worse than the Bionic in terms of Gerth... besides 3300MAH battery... i think they said 16 hours of web browsing, or stream 5 back to back full length movies... sounds hot to me.

I had my RAZR in one hand, and the MAXX in the other....it's strange, while they say it's only 2.8mm, that's more than you think, when it's the whole length of the phone.
Because the bezel outside the screen on the RAZR is bigger than the Bionic, the overall size of the phone really increases a lot, and you end up with a much less hand friendly and pocket friendly device.
Sorry, it's just hard to explain. I just didn't like the overall feel compared to the RAZR in terms of size. I would be willing to give up the size, for the RAZR's battery which I can get some good performance out of already.
Yeah, it would be nice to have that extra life, but you do pay for it in terms of pocket size & carrying it around. Not a trade off I personally am interested in making.
Personally, I am quite happy with the battery life I am getting with my Razr (I charge it on the nightstand while I am sleeping, and top it off in the office). It has much better battery life than any other Android phone that I have used in the past, and seems to be one of the best LTE durations out there. I prefer the form factor over the bigger battery, plus I think the MAXX battery specs may be marketing exagerations as all manufacturers tend to do.
Does anyone know the mAH capacity of the Verizon RAZR battery? Is it larger than the GSM version? I've read 1750 or 1780 mAH for one of them (which?) but my battery app is reporting either ~1950 or ~1530 mAH depending on how deeply I discharge.
It is something between minimum 1750mah, maximum 1780mah. That's what it means. XT910 and XT912 share the same battery. I don't mind having some extra thickness for the sake of 3300mah battery.
1780mah according to the spec sheets

Sounds like you already had in mind what you wanted, and just wanted us to reassure you
I had the rezound for 2 months, and the Maxx for 2 weeks.
The Rezound with the extended battery is ALOT heavier (to me) then the Razr Maxx, but im sure you know this.
The Rezound's screen is quite a bit sharper and nicer, but I'm sure you know this too
I find the Maxx to have a bit less lag. The Maxx's camera is a tad bit worse in lower light situations.
I wear semi loose clothes ie relaxed jeans, baggy khaki's etc. The fiancee is trying to get me into more form fitting stuff. What am I getting at ? Well in normal jeans (not baggy) the rezound left a hump in my pants, and when I held it in my hands I felt as if it was a brick after a while. To some they love how it feels, but to me, it got old quick.
The Razr Maxx is so much more up my alley. I've got used to the display and camera just fine. I don't miss the rezound at all. The Maxx has given me better call quality, and better reception / 4g. Mind you, this is just from my experience, and you experience may vary. I went through 3 Rezounds due to hardware issues, call problems, etc.
The Rezound got hotter quicker, and longer than the Maxx. I got over 50+ hours on the max, and half that on the rezound with roughly the same use (2750 mah vs 3300 mah on the max i believe).
Now if you have the normal Razr, and your plans is the Rezound with the standard battery, then you will gain a better camera, better screen, and i'd say a bit worse battery life.
Just my personal opinion. I was an HTC person for a few years, but after my Rezound problems, i'm a Motorola guy, for now.

You can find info on this everywhere. I owned the Beats Phone for 2 months. My extra input is that the Beats integration did not make much of a difference to me, I mainly use internet radio. I can talk into my phone with my Bose headphone s for a conversation and you could not with the rezound.have to us an inline mic. bluetooth navigation with the droid roadster always came on in the middle of the spoken sentance with thte rezound. the rezound never understood what I was saying while texting with speech, the motorola does. nobody have ever told me they cant understand me on the RAZR. always on the rezound. Earpiece much clearer on the Razr. the Razr actually charges in the car dock; rezound=not. bigger battery in the Maxx. I miss the rezound camera and emergency battery swap if needed. but I have not charged my battery on the RAZR for 24 hours and am at 70%. It may be the recent updates, but my experience with the RAZR MAXX has been much better thatn the two RAZRs i owned before the Rezound.

I keep seeing people make comments about spots on the razr's screen, and also crosshatching. I've been looking close and studying the screen on mine and it is just plain beautiful. I see no spots or pixelation, so I don't know, maybe they are not all the same or maybe I'm just not seeing it.
Coming from the Rezound to the Razr Maxx it's a whole lot better, the sound on Maxx is way better then the Beat's on the Rezound. I'm not much of a camera guy so i really don't mind it on the Maxx but my favorite of it all is the battery life and how thin my phone is without an extended battery in it.

There are "spots" on mine, but it's not that bad and the update has mostly fixed it.
