Windows 8 os? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Is it possible to run the actual Windows phone 8 OS on my note?
I've been thinking of trading this for a Windows phone since I've been running this for a while now.. but I remember hearing android users running the actual os on their device, which would be even better if that means being able to go back to android. Is this possible or am I dreaming?

not quite sure but now im interested im going to check the windows forum and see if there is anything about it there

Go find your self a used HD2 if you want to do all of that. It's not going to happen on this phone.

windows phone gets very boring very quick.
I owned one before, after about a week you'd regret it.

My last phone was a focus and I liked it very much. Can get boring, I agree... but that's why I'm interested to do it in here so I can go back to Jb when/if I want to.
I saw the one tutorial for basically losing the phone with apps to fully recreate win 8, but I'm sure I'll just be left with a buggy base android

The processor in the note isn't compatible with windows OS. Supposedly Microsoft will publish a version that will work with this processor.

Run launcher 8 that's the closest you will get. Quite nice. Using it now.

No. Too much time and effort, not enough resources etc.

Not at all easily. The hardware doesn't meet the specs to run it. This is a really odd question, but not a bad one.
I mean if you want to your HTC thunderbolt to look like Windowz 7.
Download launcher 7 form the market

why not? Same screen resolution, processor is on the list. Not sure what specs that don't add up.
Had a hd7 and must say I would love a wp7 lte device.
try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=913815
Is it possible? Theoretically yeah, but so are lots of things no one does. Has someone asked this same question before? Yes, and they didn't get a better answer .
The biggest issue would be the drivers for the lte radio working and the interface layer for the radio. Other big issue is finding some one that cares enough about windows on it and had the knowledge to do it.
Will it happen? Probably not with this phone.
what makes the hd2 different? so not possible on the tbolt or droid?

i believe its possible, theres a dual boot for it although 4g might not work. i dont see it not working for the tb
It's far easier to go from a windows device to linux than linux to windows, since those with the know how are used to dealing with migrating the windows device world to linux, but not linux to windows (since they generally don't want to do that).

Anybody else hear about Ubuntu for Android?

This is probably old news but I just recently saw this on the Ubuntu website. Looks pretty freaking sweet! Still in development tho.

There's actually a phone made by Fujitsu that's similar in that it can be booted into the full desktop windows 7 32 bit by the switch of a button. The downside I see to it is that when you are running it the phones radio is turned off so you can't receive calls or texts also the phone UI is some proprietary Fujitsu software. Needless to say it looks pretty lame compared to Android but nevertheless it's still pretty awesome looking. Here's a few links if you guy's wanna check it out.

Would like to point out while Ubuntu are working on it, there are already a range of projects to get it running on your device (see my sig) my project is on of the more active projects, really the only big thing missing that they have working is native graphics (right now my project uses a vnc server within ubuntu to view gui within android).
Mine works on a whole host of devices (not just dual core like ubuntu project) and you can also install debian or backtrack if you wish.
We are in the process of adding more options to the app and making it far more user friendly (Although it is already pretty fool proof)
I love ubuntu on my pc. I would love it on my phone.

Windows 8/Android question...

I've been looking into this whole windows 8 update thing, I think it'd be cool, I'm running 7 now. But my phone and its customization of ability is important to me.
Would I screw up any further phone to computer efficiency doing this??
Is it a bad idea in general??
Give me your thoughts Wise XDA colony.
I don't think so. Windows 8 is a major change for windows but it should not effect the way android and windows interact, might actually improve it, the learning curve in operating the new windows will be the biggest problem.

Windows 8 on a Nook?

So I read through this article> http://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/barnes-and-noble-new-nook-in-september/ < and was wondering if any of the Windows gurus here at XDA has done any playing in this direction, or would be willing to try? Just think it would be interesting to try, and I'm not knowledgable enough to do it. I would be willing to learn if I could get some guidance. I realize this is mainly Android over here, but this does involve the Nook Tablet, so , What are your thoughts?
Windows 8 will not be released on any currently existing products. It might come to next-gen nooks, though.
From what I've read (I did not read your article) it seems unlikely that it will be able to be ported, but I've been wrong before.

I know we've got windows xp and such on some devices, but android is based on Linux, so it will never run natively it appears, but with the arm support it might be possible with a lot of work. Also I do see someone by sometime next year getting a universal win 8 emulator, but it'll take a lot of work, and be a while.

iPaq, arm processor, windows 2003SE and we always wished for Linux. We had 2 versions of Linux by the end but not very dependable for my purposes.
What you ask may happen but I'd still rather Linux!
Nook tablet GPU can't support win 8.

Sorry to say this but windows 8 RT aka the ARM version will be locked down to the device it is installed on and you wont be able to install in on another device. The UEFI will be locked as well. Now if I can find the web page that goes into more detail then I can remember it will shed some light on this.
Ok here is a page on UEFI http://blogs.msdn.com/b/b8/archive/2011/09/22/protecting-the-pre-os-environment-with-uefi.aspx and microsoft will have all that manadatory on arm but be more open on x86 so that people can still use linux and older versions of windows on x86 systems
Hey, im about 50% done getting the metro ui on top of ICS. I got the home, back, and recent app list, the notification, volume, settings and everything themed, next im adding the live tiles and such probably tonight, the ill upload the .zip and teach everyone how to add it.

Windows 8 Phone

Is there a full conversion or at least half conversion ROMs for Windows 8 on Galaxy S4? I love the UI of Windows phone and open source of Android. I know i know windows phone is closed sourced. So? Call it a different name and legalize it foo. So is anyone making this and if not any willing devs or people want to help me make it? I know I'm not alone with the whole windows phone thing. So summary and less fast typing: Windows 8 phone on Galaxy S4 ROM? Also really I will make the ROM if i have help. What software makes roms? Lol noobtastic!

Well its illegal due to eula... and it doesnt use linux kernels so the chance of getting sammy drivers that work on windows kernel are slim, although you might be able to mod them from some sammy rt tablets
Also windows phone is closed source as is rt so part from having really good conectioms at either microsoft or any oem distributor od wp8 you probably wont be able to get your hands on the dev code
Sent from my SCH-I545 using xda app-developers app
All you need is a good clean AOSP build(not cm or another aosp-based ROM... Real AOSP) with a good windows phone 8 launcher(Google it), contacts(Google it), app drawer(Google it), and lockscreen(Google it) to make it a MORE FUNCTIONAL windows phone.
I won't be assisting in any part of this though. I think it's the single ugliest operating system to date. With the most grandma friendly ui ever. With styling from the eighties.
But I will say, I know 100% that the apps are available because I did this same thing for a friend who plans to get a windows phone next upgrade because he was unhappy with his current phone(HTC one x that is a pos)

You need the framework to make a rom. I know you can run really old versions of Windows but I have never heard of windows phone on an Android phone you could check Google play there are quite a few windows phone line apps as well as Launcher and lock screens.

The windows ROM is not interesting to me at all. And frankly, it's the perfect newb Dev project. Nothing about it would be hard if you find the windows apps and find a good solid vanilla ROM. The most intense development in that project is using 7-zip.
