Would it be possible to get the ubuntu os onto the photon 4g?
I believe it needs an unlocked bootloader.

Im trying to port it now. But, im not not exactly the best and im having troubles..
Best left to an experienced dev for now. And the previous user was correct, it will require an unlocked bootloader, so if your running the ota 2.3.5. Your out of luck

Yeah, but peetr and mof are working on
A unlocking sbf for us as we speak. I have a test sbf to flash right now. So depending on how that works out we may have a solution. Nothing until moto releases new ota signed sbf though otherwise.

he's playing you. he's kinda rude.
there's not a lot of development going on due to driver issues. i would say so at least. so it makes things much slower. most all roms are stable with a few bugs and all ics/jb are without drivers and a few of the devs are busy with their own lives at the moment. so it makes development a lot slower!
Oh.... that means we will never have a unlocked bootloader except motorola itself unlock it....

Haha only slightly! But I'm pleanty helpful when I can be Again, this is a question that pertains to the current bootloader delima, of which there is a wealth of information within 3 or 4 threads just on page one and two of general and QA..
2.3.4 bootloader was unlockable, because Motorola allowed us to download it and use it. It was not developed! And it's the only one unlockable bootloader, we have.

I am running a version of 2.35 that was not ota but shows a reservedODM value that is unlockable. Is there a way to use this to help unlock other devices?

you could try doing the fastboot work around? if it's anything like the electrify with the 2.3.5 shipped bootloader you can easily unlock. try it out.

Okay. Looks good. Is there a way to extract logs or other info that might help the devs find a workaround or method to unlock the BL on other devices? Should anything be installed to help with that?

Hello everyone,
First off I'd like to say that I'm a big fan of the site and have been referencing it ever since i got my HTC EVO years ago. You guys rock!
The reason I'm here is because I have a Motorola Photon currently running CM9 with Jelly Bean. I like it, however I don't like having to tether with 3g speeds when I know something faster is out there.
So my main question is: Have there been any ROMs (Jellybean or otherwise) that allow for 4g usage? If so, could you direct to where I could find them?
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help out.

That thread seems a bit dated now. I am on 198_7. Can I pick any custom rom and lock the bootloader to gain 4g?
Sent from my MB855 using xda app-developers app
No. Custom ROMs (ics, jb, etc.) use custom kernels, which are not supported on a locked bootloader. Sorry.

Is there a tool kit available to unlock and root this phone. If not maybe a link as to how to do so. Its not gsm and does not have sim card. Its on us cellular and its called Electrify...its my friends phone but jus looking for some 411. I have a Gnexus so not familiar wit moto electrify. Thanx

Stay with the nexus
Sent from my MB855 using xda app-developers app
There's ways to root it for sure. Check the Electrify forum. If your phone is on android 2.3.5 there's a very good chance that you cannot unlock the bootloader, just like us Photon owners..
EDIT: oops i just now realized that there is no electrify forum.
Yup thats what I noticed only photon which is similar... And def staying wit my nexus now running Carbon 4.2.2 ...lol but my buddies got the Electrify. Jus trying to help him out... Thanx

I was lucky and my Electrify came with 2.3.5 and was unlock-able, so of course I did! If you did the update to 2.3.5 from 2.3.4 then you have a locked bootloader, no unlocking. You can download and try as it won't hurt your phone other than error out, make sure you are rooted first. There is a how to on the teamuscellular.com, here is a direct link to the page of the download (mods sorry but this is not hosted here so I hope I am not breaking any rules posting another forum)

hey guys, I am somewhat new to rooting. I have rooted the strat, but that was useless as I'm sure you all know. I am trying to root my thunderbolt using the all-in-one tool but when it tries to reboot into recovery, it shows "!" inside a triangle. can anyone help me here?

?? 4.0.4 not sure which one that is
Its ICS, if you go to Santods forum. Infectedrom.com you can find the way there but there's more to it than the all in one. Its a little harder but not much. You do have to make an account to view the forums though, but that's not really a hindrance.

you need to unlock your bootloader before anything, you can do that at htcdev.com
Thanks!! Excellent referral! Just wish I could find a simple link like that for roms...lol
