Vertu Ti theme - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there any chance we could get the icons and the clock widget of the Vertu Ti?

That is, if anyone is willing to shell out 5K on a phone just for the sole purpose of extracting .apks from it.

If you guys tell me how I can extract the apks.

If u have a Ti(obviously),then first i think u need to get it Rooted (sometimes stock recovery does it too)in order to extract a widget that came preinstalled, then after u root it,use root explorer to go to system/app and then look out for the widget.apk's ..
Similarly, for the icons, look for the app in system/app(using root explorer, and then copy the .apk to ur sd card, put the file on ur desktop, rename it as a zip file, extract it .
Then go to the folder called res, then drawable-hdpi and all icons will be there in .png format.
But all this is useless if u havent got it rooted, because I think u wouldn't risk to lose warranty on such a phone..
Hope this helps

It helps, though there's no root solution as of now. I don't know where to start for the root, technical support won't help. Neither will the internet. There's already a topic on XDA but no solutions.

I think you don't need root for this.
Enable USB debugging, install phone drivers to your computer, then do adb pull /system/ path-to-dump-folder.

interesting...

I've yet to find appropriate drivers to connect to ADB. Whatever I do the phone also connects the MTP at the same time even if PTP is chosen. Any help would be much appreciated as I'd also like to backup the device via ADB. With the latest updates the phone is now running 4.2.2.

If I am not wrong, Root explorer does work on non-rooted phone.
you can access the /system partition for copying stuffs. (as you can understand without root it will only work in 'read only' mode).

Hi,
I was able to root my Ti using farmaroot just google it fairly simple method. You can also unroot to with this tool which is a plus. But I would like to know how do I access its recovery? Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks

Somebody own Vertu here?
You can extract system apps quick and easy, without root, without any risk using this tool: play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ext.ui&hl=en

[Solved][Q] .apk file questions

Hi everyone! I'm still relatively new to all these customizations that can be made on these phones, and I am curious about all these .apk files I keep seeing around. Everyone time one is posted, it says to push it to your phone to replace whatever file is there... The thing is, every time I read about it I find a new way of doing it. Some say to use root explorer, some say SGS tools app, some say to use easy installer, and I think I've even read to use ADB? I just was wondering what's the best method? Easiest method? Can you screw your phone up by replacing these files? I keep reading things like if you want to switch a camera in your ROM to a different version, just install the .apk! Or, if you want to use live wallpapers in a ROM that doesn't come with it, here is the .apk for that!
Any help is much appreciated!
Thanks guys!

You CAN screw your phone up if you do it to the wrong APK (like /system/framework/framework-res.apk, if you install a bad one, your phone won't boot, but there is an easy fix, nandroid!).
Basically all the methods do the same thing. In Android "Installing" an app is as easy as moving it to the correct location. All of these methods do just that.
The easiest way IS to probably use Root Explorer because you can rename the old one just in case, and it will handle the system read/write mounting for you. Plus GUIs are always easier.
So here's how it works: user apps go in /data/app, and system apps go in/system/app. User apps can't really mess anything up, but be careful with System ones. Live wallpapers, things of that nature usually don't hurt. Camera is ok to mess around with, too.
Edit: my ramblings are probably confusing, don't hesitate to ask me to clear something up
usually most apk files can be installed easily by transferring the file to the root of your internal sd card then go to MY FILES locate the apk file and click on it and it will ask you to install. Thats it. You can also root explorer and just place it in the system/app folder then reboot. I install all of my apks through the first way I mentioned. On my wife's Mytouch4g there is no my files so use Astro file manager. Come to think of it any file manager from the market will do. Good luck...

An apk is a specialized application file used by android (uses the same file headers as .zip files).
You are correct that there are various methods to push or move apk's to appropriate directories with in the phone. now as to which is easier or best, all methods work about the same, though there are minute differences.
If you want to move apk's into a certain directory while using a phone i find it easiest to use a file manager like root explorer that has root permissions to move apks around. keep in mind that when moving system files most often you will have to reboot for the changes to take effect with out bugs.
If instead you want to use a computer personally i find ADB to be the easiest. After installing the android sdk you will have to navigate into the android sdk directory then to the platform-tools directory within the android sdk folder. then in command prompt type " adb push <directory of file on your computer> /<directory of where you want it on your phone> hit enter and all is gravy. keep in mind that pushing/moving files to your phone using adb works the best when in recovery mode.
as to which of these operations is the best is a personal decision personally i like to use adb to move around system files and root explorer for applications.
hope this helps
Thanks guys!! Ok, so just to be sure. I'm currently running the Malice rom, and somewhere in the threads is the LiveWallpaperPicker.apk
So all I have to do is download this, place it on the root of my internal SD card, go into file manager and find it, click on it, and it will ask me to install it? It's really that easy??
Or, should I download root explorer and copy and paste it to a specific place?

For that file you will need to place it in /system/app (it can't be installed normally because it's a system app). So you need something like Root Explorer
I think EStrongs File explorer is a decent free alternative, but when I tried it a couple months ago I had no luck with it so I just bought Root Explorer (good investment)
The guide in my signature touches on this, but BT has you covered. I am also a huge advocate of Root Explorer.
Just take the .apk, move it to system/apps and I reboot, but it may not be necessary... no need to click on it and select install, as BT referenced.
Thanks so much everyone! Just purchased root explorer and will try this out.
IT WORKED IT WORKED IT WORKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
After I rebooted, none of my widgets could load, but I have live wallpapers again! I love learning new stuff! Thanks sooooooooooooooooo much! You guys are the BEST!!!
Odd about the widgets. Were you able to just remove them and re-add them back?
Yep, just deleted them off my home screen and added them back again. All of them had errors saying widget could not load

Its just like Explore or My Computer in Windows. Its not hard to figure it out, if you have problems with understanding a file explorer then you shouldn't be messing with your phone.

Open root explorer. Find the file which you want to move/copy, hold your finger over it and from the popped out menu choose moce/copy. Then 2 buttons in the bottom will appear. Navigate to the root folder or where you want to put the file and pres the move/copy button below.

Please, explain what exactly you want to do?
Meta-Inf is the signature key in all apps. To see it just click an apk in root explorer and press view and all the files/folders of the app are there. Why do you need to find the signing key? Are you modding an app? If you change or remove the signature the app won't work until you re-sign it and you'll need to fully uninstall before reinstalling the modded app. If you don't know how to use an explorer you probably shouldn't be trying to mod and sign apks.

Okay,if I want to change my theme, then there are 3 folders(the new themes folders) wich I must replace in the root with the old one.(If I understand correctly)
The one folder is ''app''
the other one is ''framework''
and then theres the ''META-INF'' folder
I replaced the ''framework'' files with the ones in my root and my phone
restarted and after it restarted it just keeps restarting.
So,clearly I did something wrong?
Okay,I think I figured it out.....
I must first copy the ''app''
then open the app in root explorer, press view, and copy the META-INF files
then I can copy the framework files?
Is this correct?

Not entirely sure about it with framework but with any other app once you modify anything the meta-inf must be deleted and the app resigned. The meta-inf is the signature and once the app has been modified the signature no longer matches and so it has to be deleted. You can use the app 'signapktic' to resign apps once you remove the original sig. System apps I know don't need to be signed though but the meta-inf still would seem not to match once its been modified. I've modded plenty of apps but never the framework so I'm not positive on the signing requirements/procedures.

Hi there
You should not install the .apk's like normal installation.
Just copy them into the folder, change the permissions, and rename the 2 files.
Reboot.
remember to remount the folder as R/O after you changed the permissions.
Cool
This is gonna make me sound stupid but is there a special way to reboot? Or do you just turn off the phone?
I turned my phone off and back on and now when I plug in the hdmi cable I get no popular but my monitor instead of saying no hdmi signal, it shows a black screen but recognizes something. I feel like im getting closer!

Cool, what OS version do you have one your phone 2.2.2 or 2.3.4?
i have 2.3.4
Which build version are you using under system->about phone->build number?
Make sure you are using the right files for your phone. Should be 3 different sets of files available in the zip file from the original post.
I am on 4.5.91. I may have put the wrong files on. Shall i delete all the wrong ones and do what i did before?
I just redid what i did before with the correct files. here is the moment of truth...
it is doing the exact same thing as before did i miss a step?
I just want to make sure. Your using the files from the AT&T folder correct? Did you reboot your phone? Did you set the correct file permissions?
Hope it works out for you.
I got my files from Version 4.5.91 Users Go HERE: (This works now.) ATRIX 4.5.91 WEBTOP MOD FILES
i also rebooted and set the correct permissions

How do I copy files to 'root' folder?

Hey guys. I recently rooted my x10 running stock 2.3.3 . I hav since installed xrecovery also.
I tried to fix audio stutter problem by copying the audio fix zip file to the root folder. However it said that I cannot copy it. What to do.
Sent from my X10i using xda premium
in case you missed these.
in most explorer settings theres a root selection (asking root permissions)
in case you cant find it dowload root explorer and remember to change the ''mount'' to r/w
and im pretty new to all this so this is not something you should use until confirmation is given but can't you usually install these zips trough recovery ?
hope it helped.
Yeah dude frm xrecovey only we hav to do it. However it says to place the audio fix zip folder inside the root folder in system and then flash via xrecovery. I cannot place it inside the root folder. I copying frm.root explorer and doing it also. Still it says I don't hav permission.
The only thing I actually flashed via xrecovery was the frames per sec zip. In that case I could place the file anywhere on the SD card and do it.
Sent from my X10i using xda premium
could be wrong but i remember reading a line like that to 'placing it on your root folder'
basicly it ment putting it on the SD card
i believe you'll be able to install it by
*putting it on sd card
*go in to xrecovery
*install custom zip
*selecting the file and voila
im looking for otherf answers/problems and ill see if i find anything brb
---------- Post added at 04:54 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:50 PM ----------
pretty much all say flash like a rom incase it aint working then there might be a permission problem ? i think thats in advanced options in xrecovery (the permissons)
I fixed permissions in xrecovery. .still if u find out something abt it lemme know.

this is what i found looking for a tutorial on the audio fix
1.The first step is to make sure that you have upgraded your device to official Gingerbread and have root privileges with xRecovery installed. You can follow the video guides here to get root and xRecovery on your device after upgrading to Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread.
2.Now download the Xperia X10 Audio Stutter Fix zip package from here and save the archive on your desktop.
3.Now connect your phone to the computer, mount SD Card and copy the downloaded file to SD Card root.
4.Once done, reboot your device in xRecovery.
5.After you are in xRecovery, go to Install Custom Zip Package and in the resulting menu, select the zip file you earlier copied to SD Card root.
6.Now press OK to install the fix.
7.After the fix is flashed, reboot your device normally using Reboot in System option in recovery.
8.Now once your phone boots, play any song to check if stuttering has ceased.
so i dont know if you tried putting it on sd card or not if you did could you give me some info on what error your getting ?
Lol no error. I hav seen this very same.document. it says " mount SD card and copy to root folder "..... where is the root folder so that I can copy to that? ! Cuz when I mount it shows all the files on.SD card. It should show one directory above it.

Hi,
Have you checked your phone installed with SuperUser too? It also involved for ''asking root permission'' for apps which need root access. Another thing, you can give ROM ToolBox a try? Many features provided along the apps including copy/explore/extract zipped files, RootBrowser, CPU kernel tweaks, editing Build.prop and many more
''Google is always your friend'' if you want to find its APK file
Extra: Copy ur files into SD card will be best way to be flashed via xrecovery

Unfortunately, due to X10's hardware limited support, 4points touch is not possible. In official 2.3.3, Dualtouch is supported along with updates. You check your Build.prop text like this below:
ro.product.multi_touch_enabled=true
ro.product.max_num_touch=4 But ''4'' seem don't works, you might see effect of ''2''
Gamepadding in emulator will not be problem, allowing two points touch
For Touching sentivity like increasing scrolling speed, you may need find Custom Launchers. Hope this helps.

Yeap. Backup can be many meanings like ur ROMS, Buildprop, Apps, Datas and etc. Most Probably will backup into your SD card. In specific folder for their backup. Only the app which started the backup can only view its backup content/format.

[Request] Stock Galaxy S III SamsungCamera.apk and .odex

Hi guys!
Could someone upload the original SamsungCamera.apk, please? Because when I'm tried to install HX Camera mod, i put the two files into a zip, when the Root Browser crashed. The two files were gone, and the zip became corrupt. After this, i put the mod to system\app. On the first run, it worked, but after a while it crashed. I run the camera again and it crashed after a time, again, and again. So I decided to try the video. And now it doesn't even want to start. So that's why i request the stock camera, and please upload as soon as possible. Thanks.

So, I downloaded this app and I've moved it to /system/app folder and I've tried to install it and it simply says "not installed". I've been searching the net for days now. I've done the following.
1. Root access for Apps and ADB
2. I deleted the CN 9 mod camera app in the /system/app folder (Is there something else that I need to delete?)
3. Installed Busy Box, Astro, ES File Explorer and Easy Installer
4. I successfully installed other stock apps such as S Voice.
I've found similar questions on the net, but no answer. Please help me out!

Thanks but no dice. I narrowed it down to few possible reasons, all of which I would need help with.
1. Even though, my options say that I'm rooted for "Apps and ADB", I don't think I'm "Fully rooted" as Android Commander still says "no root".
2. I don't have the right drivers. I was told that the "service drivers" are different than the normal USB drivers I get when I plug in my phone and maybe that's why Android Commander might not fully recognize my phone.
3. Permissions. I keep reading about read/write permissions, but maybe the options that I'm looking at is not the same "R/W" in question. I don't know.
4. Everything is correct and I just don't know what I'm doing
So, I realized that the app is a "read only" apk and it wont let me change it's permission in Root Explorer. Is there a way that I can change it? Or does anyone have another SG3 camera apk?
So, after extensive research, it has been reported that particular app doesn't work on custom roms.

U can change it actually in root explorer. At the top right there's R/O, click it so it'll be R/W.. from there u can change its permission. I know this is pretty obvious, but this may help u out. cheers!
