Could there be a Ubuntu Touch port for Nook Tablet 8 or 16gb? I'm willing to test it if anyone planing to build.

The Adam Outler Re Flash Method uses ubuntu as a recovery program. But if you remove the recovery file from the SD card then it becomes a version of "Ubuntu Touch"
Porting Ubuntu Touch is similar to building CM10.1, so expect it to come around sometime. I personally will wait for the release version, as the current preview build is mostly non-functional except for perhaps the browser.

Then again, with a base ported over, taking drivers from the recovery, it would be simple to port the official...since the kernel is almost locked in!
IDK about you...but I'm going to make some tries at a port

ubuntu can be designed from the scratch for any arm based device .
this is just a humble request to senior devs to check it out and try to port it on our wave.
even if modem would not work for arm ubuntu it would be useful in other aspects like usb hosting, full pc based firefox experience, full doc editing, and something new that our wave would have.

even android porting is on half stage. I think dev's are gonna handle the android thing. Maybe they will after android but Android has priority

Well, a working Ubuntu port can be easier than the Android, as one don't have to pay attention to the modem (however determining the battery level still would be a problem...). But I run some rounds with the current kernel to make console available and all my atepts failed, I was not able to get it work... What would you do without console?

Hmmm i think all guys are busy in porting android and making voluntas browser etc also they have their own life so let them work on other things first.
Also did u tried ubuntu through badadroid ?? Did it worked.??
This is just a general question. I dont have the know how or skill to create a port like this. Maybe DZK could use his CM10 A3 base and move from there otherwise just build from scratch. It would be nice to see Ubuntu on our device.

It depends on the structure of the files, Ubuntu moblie itself isnt running on a Jb base. The ubuntu moblie OS isnt a ROM Its an entire system its self. If someone along the line were to create some CM10 ROM that look and or acts like Ubuntu mobile then someone could port it over. But that is about all we could see on that.
P.S. it is very likely that someone will create a Ubuntu ROM on top of CM10

not exactly the code with in ubuntu touch is a lot like cm10.1. in fact it is the same just modified some with the ubuntu ui skined over it. it also uses a chroot process like you would if you felt like running full ubuntu virtually on the phone. making it slow and ineffecient. it can be done if someone is determined enough but i really see no point it doesnt support over 95% of apps and it does not support 3g data. it most likely will not be any reason to port it to the dx2/mx2 because by the time ubuntu touch be comes stable enough to use as a daily driver most developers will have stopped working on these devices and most people whod use it will have upgraded to a new phone.
Its extraordinarily hard since we have a locked boot loader and cannot flash a new kernel. SO it would have to run on top of GB 2.3.4 and have a monster set of patches just to get partial function. Not worth the effort for this phone.
For the Droid X2, it's probably unlikely you will ever see Ubuntu OS on your device. Like what was said above, the bootloader is locked so you can't simply install it like you would for phones that it is intended for (unlocked phones). Ubuntu OS is also not something just running on top of android. The only android stuff that is used is android kernel and services. They do this so they can support a variety of android phones and allow Ubuntu to run natively on a phone made for Android. But Ubuntu OS is its own OS and not a skin on top of android. But the biggest thing right now is that the version they released is not a full OS. Its a developer tool so developers can have something to test their apps and develop for. You dont want this on your device right now unless you plan on doing some development for Ubuntu. The OS is not functional as a daily driver as it is right now.
Yeah. I saw the xda developers YouTube. I was wrong. I didn't really expect the code to be like that.

Hey
I really want to try Ubuntu Touch.
I got the following tablet:
Zenithink C93
1.3ghz dualcore
1gb ram
10.1" 1024x600 screen.
I want to use Ubuntu Phone because my tab has not enough RAM for ubuntu tablet
It has a cm10.1 port, but it is not registered in Cyanogenmod, not even under unofficial ports
The computer i'm working at has;
Intel Core i3 530 2.93 GHZ
4Gb Ddr3
Hd6570 gpu.
Is there any chance i can port?
Can somebody help me with it? I cant do it alone
Thanks, Dominique.

any answers to this"?
I would like to bump this topic with the hopes that somebody will actually answer. I do know that it is possible but it's a matter of unlocking the bootloader so that you can flash with ADB. Would somebody please help us with this? I know for a fact that it's possible with Cortex A9 and the newer Ubuntu Touch builds don't require as much RAM.

i dont think this tablet actually has something like bootloader unlock.
i mean the stock rom is pre-rooted and has aokp settings.
just putting any recovery.img in a zenithink update folder, then holding power and back on boot will make it boot in the custom recovery, or any kernel named recovery.img
it could be possible, we have cm10.1, i can prepare my desktop with ubuntu and give it a try.
but the tab has no official cm10.x, how am i even going to start without the official sources?

I hate you so much im going to kill you to death!
There is an official porting guide at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/Porting and a mailing list for getting help. Unfortunately, there have been lots of changes lately and the porting guide is incomplete/out-of-date. Unless you are experienced developers using source code instead of documentation, I strongly suggest you wait, till the porting guide has been updated.

It doesn't and the recovery.img is a locked bootloader. When I try to use fastboot using linux terminal it is infinitely "waiting for device" I am currently using a 4.3.1 aokp rom and the author has been real evasive with me as to how to unlock the bootloader. I could upload the recovery image here if it would help or I could send it to somebody. What I was told by the rom developer was "the Amlogic kernel does not like mtp" which really had nothing to do with my inquiry.
Let me ask this...would flashing back to a stock rom make it possible to install Ubuntu as dual boot as seen in many current tutorials? I would post a link to one I have attempted to utilize but I can't post links yet.
I already know that we can install it on flo and even use multiROM in TWRP feature to have both android and ubuntu. but there is nothing mentioned if this works on deb. is there any way to dualboot ubuntu touch on deb?
I really appreciate any help

There does not seem to be any plans for official support for deb, OFFICIAL SUPPORT, I have looked around a bit and there are some unofficial ports but there is more not working with deb than with flo. I expect to see something, just does not look like it will be soon.
Was Wondering as We got All Sources and a Good Development
Why not Somebody Port Ubuntu Touch or Firefox OS
as Both the Operating Systems Sources are Available
I Myself might have done it But I'm Out of FUP ;_;

Ubuntu touch its an good idea
This is a great idea and I'd love to see Ubuntu touch and get my hands on it
I tried sailfish os to port but it fails because the cm12.1 sorce code is not fully available and this makes it difficult for ubuntu you need cm10 or 11 resources , therefore it is almost impossible
but not perhaps maybe even
Maybe it east for me too much paperwork
Actually, Ubuntu touch is great idea though. But it's complex cuz it's need older android source code like jelly bean and kitkat source. Which mean it's impossible I think (my friend said that)
PS: Firefox OS has been dead last year.
View attachment 3872464 View attachment 3872465I again sat down at my Sailfish os port and have fixed some errors and comical he it at build without breaking what was always my problem one can hope maybe it will work
