So I bought a Galaxy S2 off eBay for my fiance, yet I have the I9100 version, so I was wondering if I would be able to install a new 4.0.4 system on the phone. I am currently downloading from sammobile:
Mode...............Country/Carrier...............Date....................Version.....................PDA..........................CSC
SCH-R830...............USA...............2012 November...............4.0.4...............R830VXALK1...............R830USCALK1
I want to know if I would be able to flash it and root it, or what would I need to do? Also it is CDMA or what ever you call it, meaning it takes no SIM, so how would I activate the SIM card myself, what is the name of the program? Or would it be easier and better to just buy an unlock code online and then bring it to the company to do it themselves? Any and all help would be much appreciated, I really want to get this to her ASAP as she has just changed over from iPhone to Android LOL thanks all ;D

Hey guys and gals!!! I couldn't find answers to these question so I decided to ask.
basically i bought a galaxy s2 from a guy on craigslist and he said it was the international version but I have a feeling it's the Bell version, how do I check which version it is?
Next thing is that he said it was unlocked but I went ahead and used the app galaxy s _unlock. How do I know if it's unlocked?
and finally my final question- i'm gonna be gifting this to my dad who lives in India and Brunei (google it, most people have no clue where it is lol) so can he use it in India and Brunei? cause the last time my uncle bought a galaxy s from canada he then brought it to india and lost his cellphone signal forever.
any help will be appreciated
Thank
Most people know where India is.
Go to Menu-Settings-About Phone. Or hook it up to your computer and start up Samsung Kies. It will tell you what model it is.
Put a sim card not from Bell into it. If it works, then it's unlocked.

Unlock SG i747
I'm also in the exact same boat, has anyone been able to figure out how to unlock this phone? I have mine rooted too and I REALLY don't want to pay at least $30 to unlock a phone!
Why dont u call the carrier?
i got my bell s3 and have to pay to unlock it..i think about 32.99usd and it works for my fido network! pm me for the site if u want it!
widow
I contacted bell, It's 75 dollars to unlock and yes I know about websites where you can unlock for 30 dollars but I just spent a ton of money on a new phone, case and sd card so I'm not really keen on spending another thirty dollars
finally submitted to using an unlocking website and used unlockclient. com it's the cheapest I found for only 25 USD and really works. You can use paypal to make the transaction.
sold mine.
Better buying the real Galaxy S3 i9300 unlocked rather spending 25$ on the north american dual core one
Selling
How much did yours sell for? And how much did you buy your quad core phone for? I feel like it would be too much hassle and I would end up losing money in the process.
There's no way to do it without some stupid code thing or paying any money, like the way you can do it on the iPhone?
www.cellunlock.net.
Use code crackb50
Sent from the future, on my S6.
good day peeps!
ive bought a samsung galaxy s 2, assuming i could unlock it for my carrier (from ? to rodgers).
it seems a way harder hack than i was ready for, every time i look online for help the website has their hand out for $$.
i mean the ifone hack was such a noob easy one i overestamated my skills/knowledge.
so, i am totally new to the nonifone, and am unsure even what im lookin for, by name.
really all i want to do is unlock it so i can use rodgers carrier, but the stor says its not possible, web sites say no praw but want $$.
any help will be greatly appreciated, and thankx ever so much for your time.

Hi, I have a Galaxy S4 i9505 running on 4.4.2. I have two phone numbers. One for me and one for my husband. I want to contract the Galaxy S5 and give my husband the S4. This means swapping the sim cards. My provider says I have to cash out the S4 which is expensive. The phone is only 4 months into a one year warranty. I don't want to void the warranty either. One solution is to unlock both phones and to relock if there is a problem and I need to bring the phone to the dealer. Can I do this?

Don't get the point, If I understood well you have a device 'connected' with the sim brand, so why unlock a device when -in your case- it would be better only change the apn for it?

Hi, I don't know what an apn is. The problem is I want to use the Galaxy S5. The Galaxy S4 that I already have is locked to my sim. This means that I can't put my husband's sim in the phone. I can't contract for the S5 under my phone number since I already have it tied to the s4. I would have to contract the phone to his sim. Please explain more about the apn and how that will help me solve this problem.
Many thanks,
Lisa

-I'm not an expert, but I'll try to be understandable- APN is a sort of 'code' wich is used in order to 'recognise' the sim in a certain country (it changes from a country to another) and allow you to call, receive, sending messages, etc.
I knew it also worked to change the sim in cases like yours (branded phones), but can't say more cause I don't own the same device and so can't help you further.
You can try asking your phone seller or wait for someone else to help you, I wouldn't advise you to try by yourself searching in the settings.
Ps: it's not my business, but the technical characteristics of S5 are kinda the same of the S4.
Hope it helps.

Hi, I appreciate this fuller description. I think I will have to wait for someone else to come along with some hands on points. I have talked to my provider. Their solution is to have me cash out the S4 (with penalty) and to recon tract for the S5. Hence my need for a work around. Many thanks,
Lisa
Hey guys, I am DEFINITELY a newbie trying to learn more about android, flashing/jailbreaking/rooting, networking, software, hardware, ROMs, etc. I have really come a long way in a short time but I want to advance into the next "tier" of android info. I am an AT&T customer and I broke my phone, so I bought a Samsung Galaxy S9 (SM-G960U). However, it is locked to Sprint. I have contacted Sprint to unlock the phone, but because I don't know the previous owner, they won't unlock it. The phone has a good IMEI and I bought it from a Pawn Shop, so I don't know the previous owner. Is there anything I can do? Will it help to upgrade the firmware/change csc/APN? I'm probably butchering all of this but I really need some help. I got screwed on this phone and now I'm stuck with it. But regardless I still wanna know more about the world of android. Any feedback would really be appreciated, Thanks!
