Does such a thing exist? The battery life on the DNA is killing me, I am considering trading this back to VZW for the Galaxy S3 since I'm still in my 14 day trial.
Basically I'm looking for a case that you "charge" and doubles as a case and a charger, once the charge on the case runs out, it goes back to the battery.

Sounds like you have a faulty device. My battery life has been nothing but excellent compared to my Galaxy Nexus. Also, the SGS III is going to get about the same battery life as the DNA.
Download the GSAM Battery app and see what is eating up your battery.
I would also love to find something like this case here http://www.mophie.com/mophie-juice-pack-PRO-iPhone-4-battery-case-p/2175_jppro-ip4-org.htm. I am coming from the Rezound myself where I always had 3 Extended batteries with me in case I killed the battery. I do think the DNA gets alot better batery life then the Rezound, however I still have to charge it 3 or 4 times in a day. I would love it if there was a case like this build for the DNA.

3-4 times a day? May I ask what you're doing that requires that? I can push 13-15 hours off the charger with 5-6 hours of screen time on.

Somethings wrong with your phone if you have to charge it 4 times in a day. There aren't enough hours in a day for that to be necessary. Even if you don't sleep and never put your phone down.

I don't need to charge my phone that often, its just I never like the idea of having by battery below 50% just in case I need to go somewhere spur of the moment where I may not be able to charge my phone either of a wall charger or car charger. I also love to play various games on my phone a lot throughout the day to waste time, play a lot YouTube for my kids, I stream all of my music since there is a huge lack of storage on this device & also have to rely on Dropbox for all of my pictures and videos. I know that I could probably get away with letting my phone go down to around 15% or so and then charging it fully and then go on about my day from there, however I just never know when I may have to leave.

I also would like to find a battery case for the HTC DNA similar to PowerSkins Battery Cases. Not because the battery is horrible on the HTC DNA but because I want to put my mind at ease for when I don't have my charger because I'm in a different car and I need to navigate to a place I've never been or something else that takes a lot of power. People see me as a computer geek and as so expect me to be able to whatever on my phone at a moments notice. Which sucks when we are at a checkout and need to use someone elses number for a pin and my battery is dead.

I don't believe this is the typical way to guage a battery's life span. Basically what you are saying is that you would need to charge your battery from empty twice a day. Given the amount of use put on your phone that is extremely good. That's about 10 hours of screen on time and there are very few phones that come close to that. The note2 being the one exception I can think of off the top of my head. It's not a problem with your phone it's a symptom of how you use it.

Don't get me wrong here, I am not trying to talk down the battery performane of the DNA. I am just rough on my phones and have always been. I don' ever remember getting a full day use out of a smart phone except for when I used the EVO 3D with a Seidio 4,000 MAh extended battery. I have always been the kind of person that doesnt feel like I should limit use or features on my device just to conserve battery drain, I do know that this is all my choice and I have to deal with it. I am just looking for a good battery case or an external battery pack like this one http://www.amazon.com/13000mAh-External-Portable-Blackberry-Motorola/dp/B008AQLHFI.

I'll be getting my girlfriend a DNA, and I know it's something she's been wanting also since our late poodle (RIP lil Oscar) at the top half of the one for her iphone.

I never used the stock battery.
There is plenty of conflicting information about battery stats, but I've found bump charging and clearing battery stats to be helpful on other phones, even if that's just a perception thing.

I have crappy battery life on stock with minimal use, bought the extended battery and it was much better. Only issue.. i bought an otterbox defender lol.. so had to go back to stock so just frequent recharging.
I think the answer is because the battery just sucks. Its way undersized for this phone. It's hard to get a real handle on it though because everyone thinks of their usage has normal or heavy, so the accounts you read are tottaly irrelevant to how you use it.
I normally am screen on and 3G for 45-60 each morning for some news and slacking before getting to work. That will eat half my battery, which is completely unacceptable IMO. On a weekend when I pick it up a couple times an hour for a this or that, I still only get like 10-12 hours.
Our only hope is that the next phone that takes the place of the rezound has a higher capacity battery that will work for us like the deal with the thunderbolt. Otherwise, ill continue to haul around adapters and my New Trent battery whenever I'm going to be away from home for more than a few hours.
Incredible. And I hates extended battery unless they low profile like the g nex one! Anyway. Gonna try wipe battery in cwm ...thanks

Run my screen that low constantly unless I'm in the bright sun. Auto is a battery killer. Have no desire to use an extended battery. If they started using fixed batteries they would be driving away a lot of customers. Motorola is the last manufacturer anyone needs to emulate!

really? I am intrigued by the razr maxx simply because of the 3300mah battery. Not to mention, everyone raves about the new software moto phones have that allow you to set profiles.
I just don't like the pentile screens.
And I don't think a 3300mah battery would drive away many people. That battery would last 99% of the smartphone users over 24 hours.
The 3300 mah sounds great. The fact of not being removable is a modder's nightmare. Moto's encrypted bootloaders and god awful motoblur are major turn offs. Not to mention that all their handsets since the DX have a terrible feel.
The extended battery is nice, but I only use it when I know I'll need it because it destroys the contours of the device and makes it even more of a brick than it already is.

That made me laugh, that's like having a gorgeous car but never taking it out of the garage. You have a beautiful screen but at a brightness that low you can't appreciate it. With the extended battery I leave mine at full brightness or 75%, with the standard battery I keep it 60% or less.
Ive been using 1800s lately..2 of them that i charge with an external charger that came with them. Usually getting around 18 hrs at normal/heavy use. Considering i was lucky if i ever made it 12 hrs on the stock 1500, it was a good deal.
So both 1800s were dead and the plug in charger wasnt charging for some reason...phone kept restarting.. so i popped in the stock as a last resort and it made it 1 day 13 hrs and might have kept going if i hadnt taken it out at 4%. Really??
What changed it? I had charged it on the external charger and itd been sitting unused for a few weeks. Or does the phone adjust to longer cycle times when using extended batteries?
Ill have repeat the experiment and see if i get the same results.

Some higher power decided you deserved an ungodly amount of battery life considering two 1800's broke on you
I've no idea as to why this would happen. You got quite lucky my freind!
Just to clarify for future reference, battery calibration has never been and never will be relevant in accurate battery readings. It tracks what hardware and software on the phone have used the battery, nothing more.
Anyway, I don't have an answer for you. The fact that you got significantly less battery from your 1800's as opposed to your recent stock battery experience simply doesn't make sense. Could you have been using one of your 1800's and not realized it? I know that sounds silly, but that drastic improvement from a considerably weaker battery is illogical. I think you're missing something.
I could be wrong though, and for your sake I hope I am. I hate the stock battery. It's horrendous. Trident 3800mah ftw!
I am a heavy user most days. I turn the data off most nights and mostly just use wifi at home. I didnt play as many vids or any games that day but none of that matters most of the time. Light or heavy use and i usually get crappy battery life. The 1800s being the exception. Not broke...i just hadnt had time to charge them..the external charger is very slow..im talking 6 or more hrs for a full charge. So honestly no idea how my stock battery outlasted my 1800s... im going to put it on the external charger and try it again next battery change. Couldve been a fluke.

Thanks!
It was definitely the 1500... the batteries look different and the 1500 actually counts down accurately...was nice having that again for a change. The 1800s i have seem more for the atrix than the x2 or theyr from a batch that just dont report accurately. It goes from 99 down to 1% within the first few hrs and then just stays at 1% for the majority of the charge. So i never know when its going to shut off on me.
The 1500 is charging..so ill give it another go whenever the 1800 thats in now dies.

Mine has done that also, more than once. Doesn't seem to effect anything though. Seems to go away after a battery pull. Weird.
It mustve been a fluke. Used the 1500 again and got maybe 16 hrs. Thats still longer than what i usually got out of it when it was my daily. Letting it die completely and then using the external charger does seem to extend the charge cycle a bit..but thats nothing new.

That big drop off at the end always happens to me when I upload a big video to dropbox or I sync my T-backup to dropbox.
I don't have Wifi at home.
I have seen it mentioned in here a couple times now about "letting the battery die completely" don't you all realize how HORRIBLE that is for the life of a Li-on battery?! these batteries were DESIGNED to last longer and stay "healthier" when you plug in when it gets down low on charge (say 15-5% with 5% pushing it cuz its gonna shut off real soon) tho I do understand it's difficult to gauge when to plug in using a 1800mah(aka Bh6x battery) due to inaccurate readings by the system (it's best to use a widget that will show in real time the voltage left and when it gets low throw it in charger).
ALL these battery "calibration" apps& techniques have been lieing, they almost all day to drain battery completely when that's just a bad idea (not to mention "calibration" isn't actually necessary IMO anyways)
sorry, didn't mean to get off topic...

I see those "empty spaces" sometimes as well, usually happens if I have rebooted, pulled battery, gone into BSR , time got screwed up somehow (I set time manually most of time cuz i found using automatic setting seems to make my phone wake up for no apparent reason..if I need to reset time I just check the automatic box for a minute and the time/date goes to what it should be then I uncheck it)
but I haven't exactly pinned down what causes those lines, if I figure it out I'll let ya know

I still have my OG Evo 4g and love it, I however am on my phone ALOT and am very concerned over the non removable battery on the new Evo, I use my Evo with an extended battery and it lasts me about 6-7 hours and always carry an extra extended battery in my pocket since I hit the 6-7 hour mark by 2pm , I stream XM on my phone as well so alot of data usage. I really dont understand why HTC went with this design, like an iphone you have to always be tethered to a power source which is annoying as hell.
Can anyone with similar usage chime in that has the new Evo. I love HTC and wish to remain loyal but this seems like a deal breaker to me, and like previously mentioned by another user, HTC is great when it comes to updates compared to Samsung.
I am considering the s3 and it does have a slightly bigger screen and replaceable battery.
Any Input, my contract with Sprint is ready for an upgrade
i had the evo 4g battery was horrible.. i had the evo 3d battery was good for me with stock battery.. now i have the lte and i was up in the air for the same reason the battery.. i am super happy with the battery.. i use my phone alot and it has never ran out... i still have like 30-40% when i do to sleep.. battery is way better than i thought it was!!!!! thats 4 sure.. if your coming from the og evo then.. u will be super happy..

Thru Bluetooth??
the LTE is a shizzz!! so is battery life

You can get the extended batteries on the iPhone, so I'm going to guess that extended battery cases will come out for the EVO LTE. Some of them more than doubles the battery life of the iPhone.

I would love to see your settings. I stream iheart radio or Pandora for 9 hours every day via Bluetooth starting at 7am till 4:30pm. I get to work with about 98% and plug in every day by noon. Now on days I am not at work I am very happy with battery life. I kept track last Sunday and got approx 10.5 hrs with moderate/heavy use. I consider streaming via Bluetooth for 9 hours pretty extreme use.
This phone is great on battery. The charger for my tablet died so I used my phone for all my web surfing at home and at work today. 14hrs with 3.5hrs screen on time (at 40-90% brightness), about 2 hours of podcasts, a bunch of stuff downloaded, some games, Instagram etc. I got home half an hour ago and I had 15% left, that's pretty damn good for heavy usage.
No doubt, even with medium to heavy usage I can easily get through the day and my work barely has one bar which used to drain my OG EVO incredibly fast. I do have LTE/CDMA mode switched to CDMA only
My concern is what happens after a battery loses its ability to hold a charge

Fresh out of the box settings. I guess haven't messed with anything really.

If your main concern is battery life and you are a heavy user who doesn't have access to a charger when you need it, then in all honesty this isn't the phone for you.
While the battery is really good, many people are saying it's better than any other phone out, it doesn't neglect the fact that it does drain just like every other battery throughout the day.
You could most likely get through the day with a single charge as a heavy user, but if other factors aren't in your favor such as signal strength then it won't be likely.
You also have 14 days to test the phone out which is more than enough time to see if the battery life will work with your daily routine or not, if not just return it and get the SGSIII.

The battery looks pretty easy to get to from what I've seen.
Thank you all for the input, I guess I have a decision to make.
I love my EVO and really hate to give it up, best phone I've had ever
Good point that I could return within 15 days if I decide I dont like it and switch to the s3, that is what I will do.
Thank you all
Now the question too is once you start using LTE will the battery still last as long? Probably not unless you are on WiFi most of the time

The non removable battery was a big con for me too. With my past EGOs I always had a few spare batteries for those times I might get too low.and wasn't around a charger.
So I decided to get the new EVO but also get a portable battery pack charger.
Just curious to know who else uses a spare battery? i bought a recharger kit like the one in pic and love it. just pop the cover, take battery out and replace with the fresh one and your good to go.

Except this is more of a discussion about the question, not really Q&A material.
OP I don't use one, mainly because I don't have one if I did I would probably use it.
No offence OP, but this should be in the accessories forum, I do believe, so on your behalf ©®™ for moving
Bought two anker batteries at the same time I bought the phone, the Samsung battery is still in the box and I've never used the phone to charge. Swap the battery between the phone and charger every second morning, it's the first smart phone I've not had to worry about battery life.
Galaxy S III has a really good battery life so I don't use an extended battery

I've always been a battery swapper since the early Nokia days. Can't bear the thought of not having a fresh battery there ready to go when I am. No waiting for phone to charge at the last minute when heading out of the door.
Ah, maybe I should note that for most tasks I use my Nexus 7 . Oops-a-daisy. I use Galaxy S 3 mainly for music and when I study on bus. No gaming or movies.

boomboomer I was looking at the anker batteries when i first got the phone last year too.. but ended up going with this official samsung kit that had a spare that game with it. What capacity Anker's did you end up getting? I had a look at those big 4400mAh ones as a backup for when travelling overseas but never went through with getting one.
the one thing i hated about the iphone 4 I had last was waiting for sufficient charge whenever I had to quickly be somewhere unexpectedly. Some times Id go out for a few beers in the evening with a low charge thinking id be home soon.. end up having many, many more and so Id end up with a dead phone as im trying to find a way home.
Can honestly say that I havent ever had that issue again since investing in this phone and extra battery haha.
The ankers are the same physical size as the standard battery, just 2200mAh. The only draw back is the capacity drops quickly once below 10%, but I usually swap battery when it gets below 20%.

I use one. love it. All Samsung Galaxy S III phones ships with an extra battery so why not use it? So convenient to have one always charged in the battery charger and your phone charged with wireless charging. Qi!
R: [Q] Anyone else use spare battery?
I bkught a 2800mah battery a while ago...great, lasts a lot.
If i ever need another battery i will put back the old one...i could of course get ANOTHER 2800 and then keep switchingg it...but it would be tiresome...thats why they made rechargeable batterues in the first place...as soon as the battery wears out (5months my guess it will be 40-50% worse than when u first started using it) get another one. If you go on a trip and forget the charger, pop spare under the hood and hit low energy mode!

I'd like to take as much bloatware and battery draining apps as possible off of the phone, I usually do that with CM but I read you can't root the DNA with the OTA installed so what can I do and how can I get these free games installed (FF, etc)
Wait patiently like the rest of us.

Run for the hills!
You can "disable" the bloatware apps so at least they won't run and you won't have to see them.
Return it.
You can disable them. It's like freezing a app in tibu. But what do you mean by free games?
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
damn that's what I thought, since the battery is so bad and since I get little freezes on messages/homescreen things/the clock I would really want to root the phone. that's not an option sadly and i can still trade it back to best buy for $50 and the s3, which I might

The battery is pretty good, and there shouldn't be force closes.

If you enjoy it, keep it and wait for the ota to be unlocked, rooted, and s-off'd. If you don't, dont go back to a dual core SGS3(OPINION), I would at least recommend the note 2 with the quad core, big fancy screen, and Spen setup(STILL 100% OPINION).

Disable what you dont want to look at for now, and then when the new method comes out you will be able to root. Its very frustrating that i cannot root and custom rom this phone. With that said, it runs really smooth on stock rom.

How long does the battery last you? Can you go a full day with above moderate use (3hrs screen time+) without a wall outlet? I'm asking cause my first full day with it only gave me 7hrs and so when it reached to 20%. That's not too good. I'm using it on tmobile hspa so no lte either.

it played dead trigger perfectly, took 1% battery from playing for 3 minutes or so. I read the dna's usage battery is 7 hours
i went from a full charge yesterday at 7am to 20% this morning around 11am, I didn't do any gaming I was at work for 8 hours then driving and watching a movie so it wasn't but light usage, but it's supposed to get 7 hours nonstop usage and the lock screen conserves battery like crazy
I guess I'm a little puzzled. I work in an environment where after the drive to work (typically with my DNA plugged in), I work at a desk all day (a lot of the time with my DNA plugged in), and drive home (typically with my DNA plugged in).
Am I the only one on this board who does this?
The very first day I had the DNA, I tested the battery to see how long it would go with my normal use. It went about 5 - 6 hours before I felt the need to plug it in (about 20%).
But, this isn't what is typical. How many on this board actually NEVER plug their phones in during any part of the day? To me it doesn't make sense that anyone would do this. Even for those of us that travel, we can always plug in at the airport, bus station, taxi...etc.
The battery wasn't designed to last us an entire work day, and we have to use some common sense here.

It usually lasts all day easily for me. 5ish hours screen on time and 15 hours off charger.

I've heard disabling fastboot helps some wake lock issues, but idk if thats true for sure...give it a try?
I wouldn't switch to the S3..its a much inferior device when it comes to specs (minus battery life) as it is an older device...
