[Q] Little question about Venom viper x.. - HTC One X+

Hey guys how ya doin..?
I just have a simple question after explaining the following.. I had Viper x 1.0.3 .. and now we all know there was an OTA update..
I updated it.. and now i have a battery issue.. it drains out fast... until i realized that i'm actually supposed to flash another kernel and recovery..
So my question is.. What's the best Kernel in CPU power for the Viper x available at the forums?
And if i flashed the kernel and the recovery.. does everything on the SD card get erased?
Thanks in advance..

I use the one that is provided in the OP, so far no issues. All the data will he there after installing the updates

Use the one in post #6 it is the official venom kernel. It is based on elites kernel and is really stable. I have brilliant battery life with it. It also allows you to use the new virtualSD card which is very cool!

I've seen it.. But I still have a question.. Does flashing it erase the sd? Like do I have to backup my memory?

Flashing won't touch your data in sd/internal storage. You only need to backup your app data with titanium backup.
But it is always recommended to do nandroid backup in case something went wrong

do i have to flash the kernel only..? or the whole pack?
[EDIT] never mind.. i've done it.. thanks for help..

Yea you can use cwm for nearly all custom roms just read the installation instructions first

Isn't it the same as with the HTC... just download the rom and "instal from zip" when phone is booted in recovery mode ?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Metod is the same on all android phones with cwm.

For a good, stable and fast rom you could try this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1797334 and choose 2.2.0 or http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1663656. Both roms` s are good. Choose for yourself . Look in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1566for for all rom`s.
I am sorry but i do not have any experience with cwm based phones. My HTC was fully clockwork modded. But the options when booted in recovery are the same...so i asume it Works the same ??

CWM is short for 'Clockwork Mod'
So they not only look the same but (except for potential device-specific features) ARE the same =)
Do i feel stupid now... lol

if you do, I think it may also wipe your sd card so you need to have the Rom on the external sd card, and have the internal one backed up on pc
Most ROM downloads in zip format should flash through cwm and most tar through Odin, however, as previously stated, read installation instructions to be sure.
You also may want to checkout the TWRP recovery, much more efficient IMO

But it's not a MUST ? Wiping dalvik and user cache is enough ?

HTC DESIRE C resurrection?

Hi there. My name is Dave.
I am having trouble finding a correct place for this thread. This is the nearest place i could find for this topic. Q+A.
I am having some trouble with my htc desire c. I know there is not alot of development for this device as it is fairly new to market. however i had nameless rom installed (latest release) and all was well but last night i was trying to wipe back to stock rom. But things went badly. At first it didn't boot past the boot animation but now it doesn't even get that far. it stays on the warning about the build being for development purposes.
I can get into fastboot and it works. However my adb does not work. wont detect my device. drivers are installed correctly. Tried pushing via adb and fastboot. tried flashing via fastboot even booting the rom. i am using the first release of nameless rom when flashing to see if it will succeed. As far as i get is its starts writing the zip file etc but at the end says (remote: not allowed) FAILED.
I tried mounting my sdcard and placing the rom and installing via recovery but my sdcard wont mount on my pc. tried in another phone also. same thing
i have 2x2gb microsd cards and neither of them will mount
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have searched high and low across the internet to no avail
Why did ypu try to revert to stock rom? And did you try reflashing nameless 2.0.2? I have been using nameless since 1.1 and am now on 2.0.2 with stock rosie and systemui flashed.

I have it sorted finally. i borrowed (secretly) my mothers SIII and put in my sdcard and transferred the nameless rom through that way because my pc detected it
Recovery > Flash > Success!
Oh and in response to your previous question. I was returning to stock to unroot because i plan on selling my htc desire c. I bought a sidekick lx 2009 online. I live in Ireland but it works for phone and text. i bought it because I hate touchscreen keyboards i make too many mistakes and typos which frustrate me. My sidekick has a physical flipout keyboard (I have stubby thumbs) =[
Well Im glad you fixed it. Good luck on selling it!

New to sgs2....some help please

Hey guys..I got the sgs2 from a couple of days to try it out ..so I have a couple of questions...
What's a firmware ??does it affect flashing ROMs or kernels ?
How do I flash a kernel ?
What's Odin?
Does cwm come with the kernel ?
In case i got stuck in a boot loop and I didn't have a nandroid backup ..is there any other way to restore phone to stock ??
does every ROM need a certain kernel ??or all on the same one
Am I able to flash all ROMs that are in the development section
Sorry for asking lots of questions ..but I wanna know what I'm doing ...
Thanks in advance

I personally think it's quite weird you don't press the thanks button for TheATHEiST, but when you get an answer you like you actually do. These all are the basic questions when it comes to rooting and flashing etc., and you clearly didn't seem to take the effort to read and search for yourself.

Try to flash a different kernel. Do you know how to flash a rom or kernel properly if you're s-on? (you have to manually flash the boot.img)

[Q] Clockwm isnt backing up ics

So i just rerooted my thunderbolt and flashed cwm. The cwm verion is v4.0.4.1
and i read a post about cwm not backing up ics because i guess there are more than 10k files. But i didnt understand how they tried fixing it. Is there an easy way? i have ics and am not sure what is happening. the device hangs at backing up system and the bar is gray with not scrolling indicator. Please help, i want to try the official ics rom debloated and other roms.
Im not sure if i need to update my cwm version.
You need to flash a different recovery. I prefer 4ext personally but twrp is free and up to date as well. There are also issues with CWM not wiping correctly and causing a lot of issues on people's phones.
