Hey everyone
I need a quick phone to last me a few months till my upgrade and the Neo V seems like a good deal, brand new for £70.
Now I never buy an android phone unless the bootloader can be unlocked. I understand that phones made after 12w14 cannot be unlocked or something? If the phone is made after 12w14 is there really no way to unlock it? It will be sim locked and I know it's necessary to unlock it to allow fastboot.
Basically can phones made after 12w14 be sim and bootloader unlocked?
Thanks

If you buy your phone brand new from an 'open' store than your phone should be sim unlocked.
send from my mt11i with cm10 unofficially (TheDarkDefender build) on fusion kernel 4.5
If you want to know whether you can unlock your phone or not, here is an excerpt from Sony's forum.
1.First, you should confirm that it is possible to unlock the boot loader of your phone by checking the service menu. In your phone, open the dialler and enter *#*#7378423#*#* to access the service menu.
2.In your phone, tap Service info > Configuration > Rooting Status. If Bootloader unlock allowed says Yes, then you can continue with the next step. If it says No, or if the status is missing, your device cannot be unlocked.
The whole page is here: http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/instructions
Thanks but the phone will almost certainly be locked to T-Mobile.
What I need to know is, if the manufacturing date is past 12w14 is there a way for me to sim unlock and then unlock the boot loader ?

If your phone isn't unlocked then you can use the SEMC_qd8250.zip to method to unlock your boot loader, but you can always use the SIM certificate check tool in the dev thread to check if what SIM certificate your phone has, post the tool in a second.
I don`t now how must do that, anybody knows step by step?

Yes i know you told me earlier in a pm,
but does anyone now how you unlock network with setool?
x10 stand not in the list, only very old phones.
actually no. you dont have to unlock your phone carrier. i unlocked my bootloader without unlocking the phone carrier. there is a tool to check if you are eligible for unlocking your bootloader
You do NOT need to use setool to unlock your carrier before unlocking bootloader!
I was sim locked to vodafone (And never used setool) and I have unlocked my bootloader by following the steps posted in this thread with the kernel upgrade/downgrade method.
If you have never unlocked the sim then you can use the tool posted the_laser to unlock the bootloader.
Ok thanks mates

i have looked round for the answer myself, there seems to be alot of threads on this, all of them say no you can not unlock it unless using a payed method such as wotanserver also you most probably will need to sim unlock first, i think that then changes the status, well thats what i have read has happened to some, and a little something else the fw is the number such as 2.3.4 or 4.0.4, and the build number is the 4.1.b.431.
If you unlock it for any network using wotanserver it will unlock the bootloader aswell, I used them and it was fairly easy.

Hey all,
So I've been searching through these forums trying to get my head around the problem of Bootloader Unlock Allowed: No on my L22i, but there's so many threads, and I'm seriously struggling to figure out my best plan of action, so please do forgive my ignorance!
I've checked and my phone is Bootloader Unlock Allowed: No. It seems that there's a lot of ideas tossed about, but no real solution given. All I'm trying to do is go from 4.0.4 to 4.1. It seems that it is possible to flash roms without bootloader being unlocked, but obviously I'd just prefer if bootloader was unlocked. I had CM on an old HTC of mine, and I'd even like the option of migrating to that in the future.
So what are my options? CWM Recovery to root my phone to unlock bootloader? Flash a rom that has bootloader unlocked? Something else?
Like I said, I've spent the last while looking though the site to see if I can get my head around what I can/cannot do, but it's all very confusing, so any help would be appreciated. (Beyond just telling me to search.)
Cheers.
Flashing rom will not change the status. Flashing custom kernel not recommended, it will brick it. Bootloader unlock is done via sony web page, you'll get a code which you'll insert into phone and thats it.
Page
http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/
Just read and maybe contact sony directly
And read this
http://talk.sonymobile.com/thread/127808
This will give you thr direction.
On short, this option is ussually operator request. If you obtain unlock code from operator toget the phone sim free then you might go to sony centre and ask staff for bootloader unlock.

After you gain unlock code from your operator, so your phone will be sim free, then you might go to sony centre and ask them to unlock your bootloader. Its operator whos asking this stuff to be done, but once your contract over, or you'll get the unlock code to make it sim free, then you can ask sony to unlock bootloader.

unlock code
how much time do we have to wait to ask for the code from the operator?
here in Portugal i think that is 2 years in any operator, but i'm not sure
Tiil end of your contract or you can asl what you need to do whrn you want umlock.

but i don't have contract, i've been with this nunber almost for 15 years, but i bought my xperia u almost 2 years ago.
i better get info with the operator :good:
If i got an unlock code, not from the mobile phone company, but have it and the phone is sim unlocked already, if i send them that code they can still unlock the bootloader?
I have a Xperia U with bootloader allowed: no and SIM lock. Is there any solution to unlock the bootloader?
Ask them...

Guys...
I have a serious (not really serious, but kind of...) problem.
I got a Xperia U the other day. I've rooted it and flashed CWM 6.0.1.2... I really want to try CM11 on it. But the thing is that the bootloader is locked... and it seems that there's no way to unlock it since it says "Bootloader unlock allowed: NO".
So the thing is:
There's any way to unlock the bootloader? Maybe flashing a previous firmware?
Or can I flash a ROM via CWM without problems?
I've seen the procedure to unlock bootloader on Sony's page... If I do it (even when my phone says that bootloader unlock is denied)... will I break the phone?
Please answer this. I'm new and I can't post on dedicated forums
My firmware is 6.1.1.B.1.54 and I'm using 4.0.4 ICS
Please...
Someone?

Oh.
I've seen that before... But not really wanting to be without my phone for so long time. I actually have the code for the SIM Unlock... But thought there was an easier way.
Anyway...
Can I really flash CM9 with no "collateral damage" or serious risks of bricking?

SIM unlock and bootloader unlock are very different things. There's always a risk of soft bricking when installing, but nothing the original firmware, the flash tool, and about 10 minutes of time wouldn't fix.

You didn't read all of the thread then. Sony says you just have to have the phone have the bootloader unlock option say "Yes" in the settings. Nothing to do with the SIM lock or unlock. Plus none of the other Xperia phones that are bootloader unlockable I've seen or worked on require that, so would seem odd just for this one.

Because I've tried unlocking it (ignoring the impossibility of doing that) but either the tools didn't do anything or just didn't work.
And as I said before... I wont wait a week for having it unlocked with Sony.

You lost me somewhere along the way here... So your phone does or does not have an unlockable bootloader? If it IS unlockable, then why do you think it takes a week? Last few Sonys I unlocked, I received the code within a minute or 2.
