ThL W8 anybody?? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi folks,
There's lots of ads starting to appear on various 'china phone' websites for phones based on the new mtk6589 quadcore cpu. I took the plunge and ordered a ThL W8 which is on its way. I'll post performance and spec when it arrives if anyone is interested - post and let me know.
Does anyone else have one or similar phone based on mtk6589?
A thread for phones based on mediatek CPU's would be useful, I recon there are a lot about in Europe - those of us who don't want to be locked into expensive 'airtime' contracts and like to be in control of our phone!

When you get it could you post a picture of contents of the engineer mode bandmode page? Getting conflicting reports on the actual bands supported by the MTK6589 chipset this uses.
To get into engineer mode dial *#*#3646633#*#* (Hopefully this is the same as the MT657x series code!) Bandmode should be second from the bottom, there are a lot of options so you have to scroll.

Will do, when it arrives!
Chasing ThLmobilestore for tracking data, now 4 weeks and nothing showing ........ just beginning to get a little concerned.

I don't have this smartphone, but following some Italian threads I know i.e. that it has been succesfully rooted.
Do a Google search and you will find out more.

THL W8 received today. Still testing.

i wish there was some way to enable wcdma 1900. 850 is good enough for att USA but i want MORE! :good:

3G data is not connecting... So far I am stumped on how to enable it.
Operator SIM card automatically sets up the APN, but it still does not work.
Setting another APN by hand with the operator settings does not help either.
The 'H' symbol, or '3G', or whatever does not show up on the radio icon.
Is there some hidden setting or debug which I can enable?
Any advice on how can I start debugging the connectivity issue on the phone?
Thanks

I also ordered the ThL W8 from www.thlmobilestore.com on March 2nd because it is listed as in stock since then. I was a bit curious after a few days of not having received a shipment confirmation and logged in to the webstore to check my order status. It was found that the shop has no order on record for me.
I sent them a mail to explain what was going on and received a mail that they would ship the phone in one to twoo weeks. For listed as in stock phones? Yes right. Sounds like a scam to me.
I have asked to cancel my order and to refund my money because I do not want to wait another two week for a sipping confirmation. unfortunatel, they did not refund and did not even bother to reply to my request. Therefore, I have opened a dispute for the transaction using paypal buyer protection. I know there is still a high risk of losing my money, because scammers usually accuse the buyer of being a thief and then immediately close the dispute, yet I do not see another alternative at the moment to get my money back.
A warning to all of you, do not order anything from www.thlmobilestore.com. These people cannot be trusted.
There is another store selling these phones, it is called ThL Mobile Store, I should have ordered from them, by assuming I ordered from the factory store, I fell for www.themobilestore.com instead.
The Phone is great from the specs, I may lose my money now and do not get the phone, yet it is still a great phone. Just make sure you order it from a reliable source.

Hi,
I'm hoping you're wrong. My order appears to be progressing on Singapore Post tracking. Orders from the far east can often take a few weeks so patience is a virtue.
Not clear who you ordered from was it thlmobilestore.com or themobilestore.com - you name them both?
Maybe we need a 'sticky' topic on the forum to review or rate suppliers?

Hi Again,
My phone arrived today, thank you to thlmobilestore.com the ThL W8 is superb.
Very well packed, strong box, good quality charger, batteries, earphones and screen protectors. The phone is good quality, bright screen, Atutu is showing well over 12500 score, rear camera is 12Mpx. A massive improvement on my old Lt18i mtk6573!
One satisfied customer.
Now to try some rooting.

Well, I haven 't heard of countries having a WCDMA of 2000, so I am assuming it's the same band of 2100, which is how the phone is advertised and sold.
My operator supports 2100 and 850Mhz frequencies. If it didn't support the WCDMA bands it should still connect on EDGE (kinds of sucks, but better than nothing) right?

Mobile working fine for calls and data (gsm & 3G) both sim1 and sim2. GPS seems to work very well with CopilotGPS.
The only glitch I've found so far is no sync for people app (contacts) because the googlecontactssyncadaptor.apk is missing and no sync for gallery (doesn't sync with picassa. I guess until a stable reliable root method is established I'll have to live with it, but I have emailed thlmobilestore support to see what they come up with.
Will post feedback.

Yes, I also have the same problem.
Solution:
download GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.apk:
http://ge.tt/9M1zsuD/v/56
or here:
http://www.filecrop.com/google-conta...apter-apk.html)
Install it.
And it works

Yeah, that's my thread on PandaWill. I gathered the contacts .apk and root instructions from other sources. The root instructions were originally for a MTK6577 device I think, but they work fine on the THL W8. At least my device was rooted and ClockWorkModded fine with the instructions posted on that thread.

I received my phone about 10min ago and went straight in to APN settings. My phone automatically picked settings for ATT. I changed them to the Att straight talk settings and now have an H+ next to the bars and can surf the net.

Hi all,
Phone successfully rooted with information provided earlier in this thread, many thanks to those who posted. I did a factory reset (on advice from thlmobilestore) so started from a clean setup, rooted then fixed the contacts sync.
Now everything works pretty much like a dream - it performs as well as my Acer A110 tegra 3 tab!
It would be nice to fix the gallery sync with picassa, but thats just a nice-to-have not a must-do.
In summary, the ThL W8 is a really good phone which gets my vote. :good:

thanks man! appreciate it.. i know that the atrix have quadband for gsm which supports 900/1800 here in the phils and for the 3G, the band here is 2100, why it wont work? ... and other than updating manually, can i update it via wi-fi?
The 2100 band is the problem. AT&T Atrix doesn't support that band.
I don't think the OTA works using wifi but you can download the stock update using wifi and apply it.
CORRECTION: it does support the 2100 3G frequency. I didn't understand the whole WCDMA vs GSM thing correctly
i have read some old reviews when it is still in Froyo and there are a lot of complaints about the laggy pinch to zoom of Atrix.. how is the pinch to zoom of pictures in Atrix GB?
I have not experienced any problems. The zoom is very responsive
well i just hope someone who bought an unlocked at&t Atrix from the US and used it here in the Philippines would post their experience about the phone. i have read from different sites and forums that they have complaints about Atrix connectivity like wi-fi and bluetooth in different countries.
it's just too bad only few people here in the Philippines use Atrix.
I used my phone in the philippines. I was able to get internet on it. Not sure it was 3g but it was the h+ symbol on both smart and globe. I went to their offices to help set it up. Just remember, most places won't have 3g yet especially those place that don't support smartbro or globe broadband which uses the 3g signal I believe. Just ask for help there.

Wi-Fi and Bluetooth use the same standards around the world. I wouldn't pay too much attention to those complaints.
The issue with GSM coverage is that the phone must support the frequency bands for the local carrier's equipment, and the carrier must support the specific GSM standards (GPRS, EDGE, UMTS, HSUPA, LTE, etc.) that the phone is capable of. The Atrix 4G does indeed support 2100 MHz but as other folks have noted in this thread, the main carriers in the Phils (Smart and Globe) don't support HSPA+.
https://developer.motorola.com/products/atrix-mb860/

im quite confused about that 3G thing.. your post was right.. Philippines do not belong to the list of HSUPA networks.. but when I viewed the list of HSDPA networks, Philippines was there.. (i could not share the link for the meantime, 3 more posts needed).. this got me really confused.. im afraid i cannot use internet services by ISP.. maybe wi-fi only..
thank you guys for helping.. i really appreciate it.

I'd be interested to see your link, but if it came from the same site as the one where folks think that wi-fi and BT won't work in the Phils. then again, I wouldn't put much stock in that claim. HSPA upgrades aren't cheap and with 1 Peso per minute calling plans I don't think the carriers there have much of an upgrade budget. (My wife is a Filipina and has had GSM phones here in the states ever since AT&T has been selling them.)

No problem with the questions.
I don't recall if my Atrix had an option for SMS delivery reports prior to me applying the OTA update to GB. I don't see that option now, but maybe I'm looking in the wrong place. In any event that sounds like a feature of the Android OS (if it actually exists). So if it's lacking (or present ) on other Android phones then I would expect the same for the Atrix.
thanks andy for the informative replies. Im quite relieved now after i have read the previous post by mamoranto.
because i have have had 5 GSM phones from the states which came from different carriers and i have no idea on their specific details (because mostly are gifts), out of the 5 phones only 2 phones are used for "all around, daily purposes" because here in the philippines, texting is the number purpose of a phone. does the Atrix have sent items/messages stored after you send an sms?
sorry for my noobish questions.

Well I stand corrected.
The "Globe Telecom" page on Wikipedia claims both 3G and HSDPA support on their networks. Apparently they've just begun rolling out WiMAX in Metro Manila and points south as well. This page reads like marketing copy, so I assume this info comes straight from Globe.
Dang...wish I was in the Philippines again!

I think *every* phone in the Phils originally came from the states, LOL. Or at least that's the way with my wife's family. My sis-in-law just got my daughter's barely-used iPhone 3Gs, and my niece there just got my wife's BlackBerry Curve (wife and daughter had to get new iPhone 4).
Are you gonna buy this Atrix new there? You must be rich...
P.S. The Atrix does keep copies of sent and received SMS messages. It shows them in threads/conversations like iPhone, or Chikka.
It uses the Text Messaging app which I think is part of the Android OS. Motorola also throws in their own messaging widget if you want you want to use that.
My dinner break is over and I need to quit this thread for now...

I thought it was funny. He's loving the phone so far! Does anyone else have this dev edition?
Semi-related: We're on AT&T and have a shared data plan, and tethering is allowed by AT&T. Is there a hidden hack he can do to enable it? The phone will not allow it right now, and AT&T can't help him out because they don't 'have' the phone.
Yep, same here - got mine at Build.
But I'm on Sprint so I can't just move my sim over.
It may live out it's life on just WiFi.
it's a slick phone, that'd be very sad to hear.
I was at build also. I spent 2 hours with AT&T techs yesterday, and could not successfully get internet sharing working.
I'm getting a feeling that the firmware on the build phone isnt final, and we may have to wait for a firmware udpate.
To get internet sharing to at least load without saying call at&t or that it wasn't supported, I had to configure a new apn named "broadband". None of the pre-configured apn settings work for tethering.
But once I did that, I can connect to the hotspot, but the phone does not want to route any data through it. So devices connect, but cannot connect to the internet. Its quite odd, and the AT&T techs were stumped.
It probably lacked AT&T's specific module for tethering. You may need to 'upgrade' to AT&T official ROM.
Broadband APN is tied to your account. When you are eligible to use tethering, it get enabled. So, I'd double check the account setting on AT&T side.
On Android phones, I know tethering is secretly routed through a hidden broadband APN built inside ROM's SQLite config database while normal phone connection is routed throuh ptr APN (for LTE). With a rooted Android phone, you can change the hidden APN back to ptr and get around the tethering account requirement.

All LTE phones require a SIM card. But for Sprint and Verizon, currently they run phone calls and SMS on CMDA side and data on LTE side. So the SIM card for Sprint and Verizon are in fact data only. Verizon is actively testing Voice over LTE and promised to deploy them in near future. When that happens, CDMA will no longer be used. Everything will be over LTE. But that is long way to go.
On the other hand, this phone actually works with T-mobile 3/4 G as well (it is penta-band unlike the AT&T retail version). So, you can as well get a prepaid account for T-mobile. There is no Sprint WP8 phone come out anytime soon.
Just out of curiosity, when you start the phone up, do you have a carrier splash screen?

I've got a Lumia 900 on the account, and tethering is enabled, and that works fine. if I'm not using the broadband APN, it actually tells me I have to call at&t or go to the AT&T web site (giving me the exact url) to add the service to my account. So I'm not sure why it actually doesn't work on the 920.
Hopefully someone will figure it out at some point.

No, it is a dev phone not specifically designed for AT&T. You can't even get cell data connection before you make a manual selection of APN for AT&T.

That is because your Lumia 900 is an AT&T branded phone. This one is not. And AT&T has special requirement/software for handling tethering. If I would make a guess, AT&T uses Broadband APN to test if you qualify for tethering but use ptr (for LTE) for actual data transmission once verification passed. You actually have to have a USB broadband stick on your account to use Broadband APN for data transferring.

I suspect that is true because when I first powered it up, it defaults to Canada region settings and time zones.
Anyway, I played with different manual APN settings. It seems that the phone firmware is hardcoded not to allow tether for both PTA APN (for LTE) and Phone APN (for HSPA+). Any other APN will be ok but my phone with my current account settings (unlimited data) won't let me use either AT&T 3G APN (wap.cingular) or anything else for internet connection. So the end result is the same.

That could explain why Roger model is pentaband :victory:.
For anyone wondering, my dad figured out the tethering. Oddly enough, he installed the Spanish keyboard and Internet sharing turned on. Weirdest thing ever but he claims it worked. You can change it back to English after. He found this on some forum post he said. Regardless, problem solved!

Thank you! Adding a keyboard (in my case, I added Spanish(Mexico) causes the phone to download an OTA update. After the update process finishes, the tethering works without changing APN. So, now I can freely tether my tablet to it on my unlimited data plan!

sadly, this didn't work for me on AT&T. I tried both Spanish updates, but still cannot tether.
There is a lot of attention regarding this Dev Kit due to the fact that is PentaBand.
Hopefully Microsoft and/or Nokia USA will make this model available, maybe over the Microsoft Stores?
Microsoft announced that all Windows Phone 8 devices will be available for purchase across Microsoft Stores and microsoftstore.com

Did your phone go through a few reboots to apply the update? Which APN is your phone configured to use? This Dev phone comes with 3 preconfigured APN for AT&T:
* AT&T LTE1
* AT&T LTE2
* AT&T 3G
Only AT&T LTE2 will fully function for this phone.

I seriously doubt it. They need carrier's approval to sell anyphone with carrier's LTE support. Take a look at Google's new Nexus 4 dev phone, it contains no LTE what so ever. The last gen Galaxy Nexus with LTE is a Verizon branded phone and can only be purchased via Verizon.
Installing either version of the spanish keyboard did not allow tethering. My APN settings just say "AT&T" . The difference is my phone was from AT&T so it probably has some other lock on tethering. More details on how this was done would be helpful unless it just isn't possible for me. I was already prepared for not having tethering with my unlimited plan anymore with my lumia 920 (came from android where custom roms allowed for tethering) so here's to hoping it is possible at some point.
This thread is about the special dev version ms gave out at BUILD2012 conference. Not the AT&T retail version.

Blackview BV7000 Pro fails to register to cell network

Hi, I have been looking everywhere for answers and hopefully some one here can give me one.
I researched rugged phones and decided on the BV7000 Pro because it supports LTE Bands 1/3/7/8/20
My cell provider - Virgin Mobile Canada stated they run on LTE Bands 2/3/4/7
So my phone should work on Bands 3/7
When the phone searches for networks, it is able to display Virgin 4G, Telus 4G, EXT 2G, EXT 4G
When I try to connect to Virgin 4G, it tries then states it failed to register to the network and to try again later
I have confirmed my SIM card and APN settings with Virgin and the SIM card works in my old Motorola Razr but on 3G. The BV7000 doesn't work on the 3G bands Virgin uses so I can't try connecting using 3G.
So I want to know what you think is the reason why my phone can't register to Virgin Mobile Canada's Network?
Other BV7000 Users in Canada, United States and Mexico have reported the same problem.
I have contacted Blackview support and they eventually stated it won't work in Canada but provided no reason why. They posted this 11 days after I had purchased the phone and it was in the middle of being sent to me. However I suspect their support isn't the brightest based on some of the responses I have seen on their forum. The BV6000 works in Canada and the US.
I don't know anything about how the phone communicates to the provider exactly but to me it seems like there is a failure in communication in terms of security which is preventing it from connecting.
Hopefully some one can shed some light on this and maybe find a way around it so I can get this thing to work as a phone.
bv7000 pro, fails on mexico
hello, i have the same problem, live in mexico, it doesnt support 4g, If i have luck it will be 3g data, but i never seen that, only edge, i have i cool phone, but It is useless on internet data.
On the blackview forum theres no help there, Only users complaining about the same in North America

Hi, I unfortunately haven't found a solution yet. I have attempted to request a return through the AliExpress website and the seller has completely ignored me. I had to contact AliExpress customer support to have my return request escalated. The seller finally contacted me today asking if I had received the phone. Which is a stupid question because there clearly is communication between use showing I received the phone and have had problems with it.
Your only option is to try to return it or find a phone provider there that it will work on so you can try to sell it to some one on that network or switch to that provider. I found a provider in Canada called 'Rogers' that it works on but I can't switch to them because I would loose my old plan that is cheaper than the modern equivalent.
Either that or learn how to hack the phone to get to the modem that technically can operate on all bands, they just have to be enabled. Blackview uses the MediaTek CPU. I am desperate to try but I am pretty sure I would kill the phone.
sooo...... do you kill the phone??.. hahaha
Is a bad phone, i try with another company in mexico (telcel), but it lost a lot the signal, when you have to make a call, surprise you can't.
asking on the facebook pago of blackview, they say is a hardware problem, so, there is no solution, only keep waiting for bv8000 (if you want to try again)

Still waiting for either the aliexpress customer care to figure it out or the seller to reply to me. I haven't done anything with the phone yet. I have been trying to sell it locally but only one person was interested.
When you say they said there is a hardware problem, do you mean the phone is defective or the hardware just isn't configured to work with North American networks but works fine in Asia?

i understand that..... is work fine in asia but not in north america.
i'm in contact whit my seller, they try to help me with 3 problems,
- Does not detect my company's signal
- Only works with edge (doesn't support 3g or 4g)
- after make or receive a call, i can't do another one, have to reboot the device.
If they find a solution i will let you know on this forum

Hi, I was just wondering what website you bought your phone through? I bought mine through the AliExpress website, through the Desoon Technology Co., Limited store. The seller has ignored my repeated requests for a return for refund and AliExpress Customer Service won't even talk to me anymore. Nice place to run a shady store when the host website can't even enforce their own rules.
i bought on ebay, honesty i thought i will find a solution for the problem #3 (reboot after a call), but nope, blackview forum is very slow on don't give any solution.
for the problema 1 and 2.... there is no solution, the phone doesn't support 3g whit most of the companys in America (canada, us, mexico or south america), is hardware problem., this problem is fixed on the new bv8000 pro, is has more frequency bands to support global network.
It does not work 3G or 4G only 2G.
I have a blackView bv7000 pro, but it does not detect the networks of 3G or 4G only 2G, here works well only the phone with 2 SIM, the wathapp works well only the internet is very slow, in one word is not good for the internet, it is fast with the applications, but with the internet nothing else is not good.
This in Mexico with any telephone service here.

IMEI issue and no LTE on AT&T for V30+ (U998U)

I just got my V30+ unlocked from B&H Photo after they dropped the price to $775. I love the phone so far, but getting it registered has been a pain in the butt. I'm posting my story here in case other people are going through the same thing.
Cliffs: If you are registering a V30+ on AT&T on an existing account, I'd suggest NOT telling AT&T your new IMEI. Just move the old SIM over or ask for a new one but don't tell them you got a new phone.
If you are registering for the 2nd Year Promise and your IMEI is "incorrect," you will need to email your invoice (showing the IMEI and purchase date) to [email protected].
Long story: No 4G LTE on AT&T
After got the V30+, I took it to my local AT&T store to get a new nano SIM card, my old Galaxy S5 had a Micro SIM. The guy registered it for me and put in the APN settings. However, he couldn't get any data to come through, not even 3G or 4G. The guy said my IMEI wasn't being recognized by AT&T. He messed around for about 20 min, then finally said he changed the IMEI number in my account to a different phone (not sure what phone) and then after restarting the phone got 4G. I left the store, then realized I still had no LTE, but the store was closing so I decided to wait and see. I double checked to make sure the APN was correct and the network mode was set to "LTE/GMS/UMTS" and not "Global"
The next day I still had no LTE so I went to a different AT&T store and the guy checked my APN settings again and updated the IMEI in my account back to the V30+. 4G was still working with no LTE after rebooting. He said he added some "code" to my account and told me to wait 30 min to see if the LTE starts working (I have no idea what he actually did). Of course it didn't work so he told me to call tech support.
After about 30 minutes on the phone waiting, the tech support person told me my V30+ wasn't compatible with AT&T LTE and that there was nothing else they could do since I bought it unlocked.
I called LG tech support just to see what they'd say and of course they said it was my carrier's fault and that the phone should work on LTE.
After that I did some more research online, I found some information for a similar LTE/IMEI issue on the OnePlus 5T. Since I'm new here, I can't post a link but you can just Google "oneplus 5T no AT&T LTE" and it's the first result.
After reading that and a few other forum threads, it made sense. I checked my AT&T account and it wasn't showing a device name for my line, it just said "Device" instead of the model of phone. I put the new SIM back in my Galaxy S5 and my S5 didn't have LTE either (it did before I started all this). So with this info, I went back to the AT&T store and told the guy (different one again) I wanted to switch the IMEI in my account to my S5 (then after I leave, I'd put the SIM in my V30). However, he told me the phone on my line was already set to my S5....contrary to what I saw on my account page. So i explained the whole story to him and he decided to try updating my IMEI again, and of course still no LTE. Then manager came over and then tried updating the IMEI a 2nd time, when it didn't work he then said I was probably getting LTE but that a lot of the new phones don't say "LTE" in the status bar anymore. I knew that was bull crap, so I pulled up the network status that showed I was on HSPA. So then he scrolled around on his tableau for a few seconds...and then all of a sudden I glanced back at the phone and it had the LTE symbol.
In the end, I have don't know what fixed the issue, the 2 guys at the AT&T store said they didn't do anything special, they just tried adding my IMEI again. I suspect maybe someone at AT&T needed time to confirm my IMEI or something and add it to their database, when my LTE finally started working it was almost exactly 24 hours after I first registered it.
Registering for the 2nd Year Promise:
I have a 15 digit IMEI for my unlocked U998U. I tried registering for the 2nd Year Promise but the page was telling me my IMEI was incorrect. I even tried dropped the last digit and it didn't work. I called the customer support number, (888) 959-5175 and the woman told me that my IMEI wasn't in their system yet. She told me to email them my invoice (that shows my IMEI) and they would add my IMEI manually so that I can register it.

I have two B&H Photo US998 V30 and V30+ phones on AT&T with no issues. I told AT&T in-store rep: "You also sell the LG V30. Say it's yours."
I told them that when I walked in the door, before I even handed then the phone. I didn't give them a chance to tell me whether or not it was compatible. Of course it's compatible. That wasn't even part of the discussion.
They registered it -- or whatever you want to call it -- as an "AT&T LG V30" which of course is in their database.
They still needed the serial number, but I don't think they used the IMEI.

That's kinda weird.
I used to work for AT&T before (almost 7 years ago) and there are times that the phone model is not recognized in the system even if we put the correct IMEI.
As for the 4G/LTE issue, please check your plans. In my time with them, the data plans for 4G/LTE is different from the 2G-3G plans. I think they messed up your account if 4G/LTE is not available on your S5 as well or maybe it's a faulty sim.
Your phone is supports the bands of AT&T.

Yeah, it was definitely weird, I never thought it would be so difficult to get the LTE working. It could be something with my plan, I had LTE with my S5, maybe the first guy messed with my plan when he tried to register the V30 and someone changed it again before it started working, I don't know. I doubt it's a faulty SIM as I've been using the same nano SIM during the whole process, and now LTE works on both the S5 and V30 with the same SIM.
Overall this was a huge pain and I hope no one else has this same issue. AT&T can be frustrating, especially after seeing the issues people had with other unlocked phones. I'm considering switching to T-Mobile as their plans are cheaper and some friends say the signal and speed are pretty good in my area. Hopefully they will be better than AT&T.
Switch to T-Mobile save money and your phone will work without issue
anyone have any issue after the recent update? I cant seem to access mobile data after the update. I will get the mobile data at first then suddenly it stoped working. Wifi is working great and everything else is working great. I have research online and found that some Oneplus 5 and Pixel have similar issue after upgrading to Oreo and the fix is to reset the APN. Work for some while not all. My varient is the LGM v300K which i bought from Korea.

These phones work on AT&T without issue. I have used three of these "open market LG US998" on AT&T -- both V30 and V30+ -- all bought from B&H Photo. Using two daily, and the third was initially my daily phone. See LTE speed below.
And I probably pay less than you.
$37.50 per month for 6GB high speed data/unlimited calls/unlimited messaging.

While I'm not a T-Mobile customer, I am fan -- because they've caused the other carriers to lower prices and improve service. But I'm very happy with AT&T Prepaid, which gives you lower prices (since you own your phone) but still gives you excellent "post paid" speed and in-store customer service. (Warning: just stay away from their "unlimited" plan which caps your speed. Go with the 6GB plan, which gives you the same unlimited speeds of postpaid customers.)
There's no problem using these phones on AT&T. The guy just got some incompetent rep who messed up his account. It could happen with T-Mobile too...

Yes, that's definitely the case. Now that my LTE is up and running, everything has been great. However, I am still considering switching to T-Mobile because of cost/value reasons, their unlimited plans are intriguing.

Hi, do you have Volte enabled. If so, why doesnt the volte indicator show up in the noficication bar? I'm asking because I have the same issue, my carrier confirms that they've enabled Volte for my device on their end.
Also, your 4g indicator says 4gLTE, wheras mine only says 4g all the time. LTE Discovery shows that I'm on LTE band 40.
Can you throw any light on this? H930DS.
is your account does it shows up as LG v30? mine US998 keeps showing up as unknown device with the IMEI, and ofc no LTE only HSPAP

New unlocked phone not connecting to carrier? Blackview BV9000 Pro

I just got a BlackView BV9000 Pro in the mail. I stuck my SIM card in it and its being read, I can see my contacts and phone number from it. But its not able to log into my network for whatever reason.
I took it to the ATT store to have them verify I had the correct APN and they made a new SIM for me, but it still didn't work for them either.
I've also noticed the boot up screen shows on boot, then waits for me to unlock it, then in splashes again before waiting me to unlock it a second time before it goes to the home-screen. This gives me the idea that the phone might be DOA or the ROM might be corrupted.
I am in Orlando, FL and just got my Blackview BV9000 in the mail and have the EXACT same problem. I too am with ATT and tried switching SIM cards and all the correct APN info....any luck solving this? Thanks.

I called AT&T again and spoke with someone more willing to help. It appears we are the earliest of adopters here. Their system just doesn't recognize the phone because they've never heard of it.
Engineering said they would be researching the phone and adding the model to the network.
Give them another call and get yourself in the queue to get it added.
10-4, I will call them today....any idea how long this will take? Thanks, at least I'm not in this alone, lol!
Please tell me you guys didn't buy that? If the system doesn't have the device then it reg as an unknown device and will still work.
They told me it would take under 2 weeks, that was a couple days ago.
@zelendel I'm not sure what you are getting at. I'm only going by what they told me.
Something about the system defaults to 2g for unknown devices but they have decommissioned all of their 2g network, so I have nothing until they add it to their system .

What I'm getting at is that is bs. I worked for att and know just how this works. And that line is complete crap.
After looking at the specs for that device I'm betting you will still have issues due to the bands needed to get 3g or lte on att. As long as the device supports the bands it will connect automatically to the bands needed. This is how their byod works.
And after looking at the specs. I'm right. It is missing most of the bands needed.

That's not good... I ordered 3 of them....
Bands were checked....still no connect.
Blackview's tech told me to check the bands too...(which I did before purchase), and according to ATT, the phone has the correct bands to connect....ATT uses the following: GSM 850 & GSM 1900....Black view BV9000 Pro has GSM 850, 900, 1800, and 1900. ATT uses the following LTE band frequencies: 700, 1700, 1900, 2100, and 2300........Blackview BV9000 Pro has LTE 700, 850, 1700, 1800, 1900, 2100, and 2600. These are the identical band frequencies my Samsung 8+ has.......thoughts anyone? Thanks!

If it has all of their bands then yes. But if it is missing even one then you might run into issues.
This is a lesson that many have forgotten with the availability of global devices. China uses different bands then the states. This means most times devices sold from China will not always work in the states.
I make a habit to make sure all the bands are listed. This way there is never an issue.
I have a BV9000 Pro here and can see the supported Bands (not only frequencies) in the MTK Engeneer Mode ("call" *#9646633# and go to Telephony > Band Mode > SIM1". Maybe this helps you.
BV9000 Pro supports:
GSM Mode: EGSM900, DCS1800, PCS1900, GSM850
UMTS Mode: WCDMA-IMT-2000, WCDMA-GSM-900
LTE Mode: Band 1,3,7,8,20 (only for SIM1 deeper on the tray, not for upper SIM2)
I have the same problem i already sent my problem to blackview, i tried everything *#*#4636#*#* but for some reason my bv9000 pro when i tried to select radio band just dont have any answer... I also tried several apn but still my 4g keep witouth working. If for some reason i fix my problem i let you know...

There is no fixing it. If it doesn't have the bands for your carrier then you are sol. Remember you get what you pay for. When you go cheap you have to make sacrifices.
HEY!!! Two points:
1) When you are checking frequencies of phone and carrier (to see if they match) you need to know the "B" number. For example, there are at least 4 "B" numbers for 700MHz that I am aware of. So if your phone spec says 700MHz, is it B12 700MHz or B17 700MHz or B28 700MHz? Right frequency alone means nothing. Having said that, the BV9000 has ALL the right "B" numbers to fully support both 3G and 4G LTE on AT&T, T-Mobile, and many resellers. All it is missing is 600MHz that T-Mobile is rolling out. But I don't think T-mobile even offers a handset for that yet. So it's as "compatible" as anything you could purchase directly from AT&T or T-Mobile, at the moment.
2) I have owned many Chinese phones. Without exception, they all need to be tweaked a bit when you first unpack them, or they will NOT connect to ANY carrier, even with a properly activated SIM. The process is roughly..... A) Go into setup menus to enable data on SIM 1 (or SIM 2) B) Go into setup to enable ROAMING data for SIM1 (or SIM 2). You must say to allow roaming because when the phone is new, technically ALL networks are "ROAMING". You will get a warning message about roaming data usage being expensive, acknowledge it. C) Power the phone down completely powered off. D) Turn the phone on and wait five minutes. E) Sometimes you have to do step C and D 2 or 3 times before you will get a connection.
NOTE: Before you successfully enable data and roaming data and reboot, you will not be able to make phone calls or send/receive text messages. You will likely get a "no service" message or a signal strength indicator of NO bars. Also, for some few handsets, you MIGHT have to manually input the APN settings for whatever network you are trying to use, even if you have a properly activated SIM card for that network. But even if the SIM card is recognized and APN info is loaded automatically....you still need to enable data and roaming data before you can make phone calls, or try to use the Internet.
Even customer service reps for the various carriers are not aware that Chinese phones need to have data and roaming data enabled before any good, activated SIM will work. So if AT&T told somebody to contact Blackview (for example) that would make sense. AT&T really (honestly) probably thinks that the handset is broken. While the handset COULD be broken, it's probably working fine, after you tell it that 'yes, I want to roam".

Is this a way to get a LTE network in US ?
I heard that the phone needs a Global ROM Network Firmware? is this something that you guys heard? if it does, how and where do I get this firmware?
My Brother in law said this is what Dealer in indonesia do when receiving phones from china, they alter it and download Global Rom network before they re-sale the phone to public.
