Hi
I Just got myself an optimus G, whoever i got it from forgot to tell me the device is rooted and is running another rom, not the stock.
Anyone knows how do i restore to stock?
I found what supposedly is some version of the stock rom-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2067871
but now i see i need cwm for it. which i currently don't have.
So i searched further and found this-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1979996
Which is perfect for my needs, but- "read the instructions!"
I would, if there were any. I'm not saying anything and everything should include a mountainload of details and steps, but it would be helpful if some of the threads here would include a line or two of explenation for LG noobies. I see people tell others "use fastboot" as it's a given. I have no idea what that even means, and searching did not help much as well...
Any help would be appreciated, i need to get this stock asap, supposed to be a gift.
Thanks.
If you're running another rom shouldnt you have a custom recovery?
And if you just want to start fresh go to free node irc channel #lg-optimus-g and at the top is a link for lgnpst just follow the guide there
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
I have no idea how they did it, but when i boot up there's a startup similat to the nexus. On the other hand, the rom still says "AT&T" and the LG UI is present+it's rooted
Hopping on to the IRC. i already have LGNPST an the .TOT file, just need whatever DLL's that are mentioned...
I haven't actually used the guide but I'm not in a state to guide anyone through the process at the moment so I will just say follow the guide as well as you can. If I remember right that's the automated version so it should set everything up for you, but I've never used that one so I'm unsure. If you have questions ask in irc or wait till about noon and ask. There's usually a lot of people on at that time

Thanks.
I actually got everything and the instructions, only problem is that the damn thing won't go into download mode (unless the fastboot thingy IS download mode, but then i don't know why LGPNST doesn't recognize it...)
Try to unplug it, turn it off, hold volume up and down then plug it in and tap the power button

This really isn't hard, why isn't there a step by step walkthrough on a sticky over here? i think i'll just make one for other lost souls.

I think the reason why is because LGNPST is copyrighted software which means XDA doesn't want to provide access to as they'd be violating the DMCA as well as risking pissing off LG who's software it is.

Howdy y'all!
So, special thanks to user "sextape" for providing this, I'm just mirroring it just incase LG decides to change the link, or lock us out.
This is the Stock Shipping Firmware, LGE970AT-00-V10o-ATT-US-SEP-29-2012+0
You need the DLL files, and LGNPST 2.2.3 to flash this. If you need that, hop on the IRC channel ( #lg-optimus-g ) and ask for it.
http://downloads.codefi.re/thecubed/lgoptimusg/att/firmware
I will post the latest firmwares as they are available to this link.
EDIT: Heh, well, it looks like LG took down the firmware from their CSMG server. Get it while it's hot!
EDIT2: Whoops, my server's got a problem with the plus sign in the download link.. Give me a few while I get that sorted...
EDIT3: Alright, that's fixed. Sorry about that...
well now we can have some cooks go in and start tweaking and debloating this firmware so we can upload it to our devices... next best thing besides a fresh ROM

Why do I have the feeling I'll be losing a lot of money to you?!?! You're everywhere man! Thanks for the help and support. I'm going to try and learn how to debloat and so forth, now that this phone is looking promising. I always just grabbed other people's roms, but this should be fun with the S4 Pro!!
Ok so I have a 'tester' Optimus G for AT&T. It was given to us about 1 month ago to test certain Software on. So I wanted to try and get the 'official' firmware/build/etc. over to the test unit, to make it as identical to the released version as possible. The hardware is most likely identical.
The test unit though has the same Android version, Baseband version, Kernel version, Build number (IMM76L), the only difference is the Software version. The test unit is E97009j but the official unit is E97010o. The LGMobile Support tool reports the test unit as model LGE970 Version E97009J and the official unit as Model LGE970 Version E97010O
LGMobile support tool doesn't report any updates available for either unit. So any idea what SW version entails? Any idea on how to get the test unit in sync with the official release? I was trying the official LG route but that doesn't work. I don't think AT&T has released any official images for this phone. I was thinking of a nandroid backup using CWM but the CWM in this forum (only 2 posts in Rom development??) doesn't have any instructions for installing it and it's only temporary. I was thinking of flashing this Stock ATT Firmware posted here but it requires me to go to IRC and ask for some files but when I did nobody answered. I'm coming from the HTC and Samsung world. In Samsung's world I'd just use Odin to flash a stock image which includes modem, bootloader, recovery, etc. the whole package. But not sure about LG's world. Maybe I should just root both units and go in there and dd the relevant partitions from the stock unit to an image file and then restore those images to the same partitions on the test unit. But which partition numbers are "relevant"?

You don't to "use" it, just log in to the #lg-optimus-g channel (login just requires a screen name, channel and enter reCAPTCHA, but no SW install or requesting an account). Then wait 5-10 min and someone will ask for the files, which will be followed by a posting of the link.

Let me give it a shot now. I already had someone build me an unlocked kernel thats completely stock except with init.d and boot animation support so I have my adb remount and can now easily deodex the ROM and get to work

Actually it looks like this kernel did support custom boot animations out of the box. If you want to test, go to system/media and copy your stock boot animation. Then push a custom one and set permissions rw-r-r and reboot. I just needed a kernel that was stock with init.d and adb remount so I can make changes like deodexing and customizing apps then reodexing and pushing back apks

I've already created my custom boot Ani, thanks! I put it in the themes section for anyone who wants it. Works like a charm. My only gripe is that i can't use my boot animation installer because it says that's a read only file (system /media) Didn't have that issue with my other phone. Could that be caused by the kernel? Oh well, I'll do it manually for now. Keep up the great work!

Lucky for me I have the only version of the Note 2 with a locked Bootloader from "BigRed". i came here to ask for assistance because I want to use my device to its full potential but I definately do not want to brick my device or harm it in anyway.
What I am confused about is the whole process of unlocking the boot loader and rooting. I have read extensively on how to do both but I don't know what process I need to do first. Do I root first and then unlock the boot loader?? Or Vice Versa??
I am also skeptical about some of the Boot loader Unlock methods I see floating around online. I have read up on a couple different ways to do it but when reading the comments under the tutorial article it seems there are alot of unhappy Note 2 owners that were not successful with the methods What I am asking here is if someone can point me to the CORRECT way to unlock the boot loader with the most up to date information regarding the latest update Verizon has put out. If I can be pointed to a good article on the correct way to root the device that would be even better.
I obviously know there is no "fail safe" way of going about doing this and completely understand all the risks. I just want to minimize those risks. Especially on a $600+ device!
Thank you for any help that is offered!!
A little tip for you. I've found is best to just stick strictly to xda for guides like this. Most those random guides steal the work of the hard working devs here. I've seen a lot of bricks of people just following one if them.
Here is the only way to unlock. It's easier then it looks.

^ what he said :good:
i used that method literally 2 days ago. it's really simple. just click and follow instructions. just follow the guide and you can even watch the youtube video of someone doing it before you do. once you have the bootloader unlocked and twrp flashed (one you finish the guide you will have twrp installed) you can hold the power volume up and home button while the device is off to boot into recovery (twrp). from there before you do anything i would recommend flashing the latest twrp and then you can go ahead and flash whatever roms you want. probably gunna want to stick with clean rom. it's basically stock rom with all the scum removed and a lot of root tools added.
Can I piggyback here?
My similar question is that when I got my phone 2 weeks ago the Verizon salesperson did THE UPDATE when he setup my phone. My system says I have 4.1.1 but otherwise I have not done a thing to it. Do you need to know the kernal version?... Which steps do I use to unlock and root to Cleanmod? Thanks.

use the method linked above! It works for both firmware versions that are currently available.
also very easy given that you follow the instructions
As others have said, follow the directions. Go slowly, measure twice and cut once. Then you can start feeding the ROM flashing addiction.
I currently have the Verizon Note 2, now rooted, and wondering if I can use the Dirty AOKP 5.1 rom. I know it is under the nexus 7 developer site, but are roms able to be used on different phones?
Also, I used casual to root my device, then backed up my apps and systems on titanium backup (not pro), but do not know where to go from here to load the rom. Do i run casual again and once I get into that team wiz menu, flash the rom from there?
Sorry, been reading up on this site but some of the lingo i'm not familiar with quite yet.
Do i make a new folder on my sd card and move the rom to that folder first?
Thanks a bunch~
Unless the rom is meant for our phones. Flashing something like that can brick your phone. Now that you're rooted, install twrp and then you can start flashing custom roms. There are plenty of good aokp roms here, but don't risk damaging your device.

As ztotherad said you need to read droidstyles guide.
As for using Roms, if you want Roms check the ones in the Verizon Note 2 Development and Original Development sections. Those are the only ones for our phones.
If you're going to flash a Touchwiz ROM you can flash Roms from the other Note 2's but only the LTE ones and then you have to use a patch to make them work. The Note 2 Roms from other carriers are only from specific phones though, the include the N7105, the AT&T version, the T-Mobile version, and maybe another. You have to use the patch with those though our else they will not work. You cannot however flash a ROM for the Nexus 7 or other devices unless it has been ported to our phone, in which case it would be in the Development section.
That being said it is very obvious that you don't know what you're doing yet, before you attempt to flash ANYTHING from another carrier you must know what you're doing and understand the ins and outs of modding and ROM flashing and the only way to do this is to read all the guides and if you don't understand something to ask questions in the Q&A section if you don't understand something or need clarification.
For the time being you only need to flash Roms from the Verizon Note 2 Development and Original Development Section and only after you have read droidstyles sticky that ztotherad posted above.

yeah, believe me, you don't want to brick this phone, it's easy to mess up.
Thank you for the guides. So what I have done so far is ran casual to root it, flashed aokp nightly, then flashed gapps-jb-20130301-signed. From what people have advised me, I haven't done a proper flash. Next, I have read up on the the droidstyle guide [GUIDE][VZW Edition]How to Root/Rom/Return to Stock the VZW Galaxy Note II many times and still have questions.
I have access to team win recovery project by pressing up volume, power, and home button.
People have been suggesting that I take it easy step by doing the flash of the rom provided on the droidstyle guide, and I will follow those newbie steps first.
Could people verify if the following step will be ok to take?
Download one of the touchwiz jelly bean roms from Section 2: How to flash a Touchwiz 4.1.1 rom/kernel from a Custom Recovery. (I've decided to go with mean bean)
Download file, transfer file onto sd micro card, power device off, restart device by going into volume up + power + home button. select wipe, then wipe cache.
Select install, then select the rom. Then reboot system. Is that it? or...
Do I also follow How to flash a custom Touchwiz kernel, and section 3? Or are those extra?
Edit: Also, in the team win recovery project, do I only need to go to wipe, swipe to factory reset to erase the previous roms? What is a good way to wipe to start from scratch again before flashing the mean bean rom that I'm downloading? I don't really need anything else on the phone...
Thanks again~

You hold power+volume up+home button to boot into TWRP. Then hit wipe.
At this point you have a couple options. You can simply swipe to factory reset.
If you have an external sd card, I like to move the rom (meanbeanice.zip) to the external. then i hit format data to completely wipe the internal sd.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda premium
So if I do an entire format data to completely wipe the internal sd, then flash go to install to install meanbean. I would have a clean new start with mean bean?
Yes, just make sure you hit the backup tab first to make a 'nandroid'. if anything goes wrong, you can boot into recovery and hit the restore tab to boot into the state of the phone as it was when you backed up.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda premium
I'll make the backup first. It will keep my team wiz recovery I'm assuming then?
For mean bean, I'll do the wipe, backup, then format data completely, install mean bean, go back and install sticky settings, go back and install sticky debloat to delete all the unwanted softwares? (Such as the nfl, amazon, and etc.)
Taking and reading how to properly flash one step at a time.~
Thanks everyone~

Taking and reading how to properly flash one step at a time.~
Thanks everyone~

you got everything right but you want to make a backup before you wipe anything..

I did everything above, but for some reason, nfl, amazon, kindle softwares showed up even though i did run the sticky debloat. Something I'm missing? I guess I can just diable them, but wondering if I missed a step for the future.
Thanks again~

Did you change the .blt file as explained in the OP of Mikey's thread? You have to edit that file then run the sticky debloat. It's unlikely that at this point you would have the experience to edit that file before flashing the ROM (please take no offense...) that's why I'm guessing that's your issue.

It's actually one of the hardest to brick I have ever seen as long as you didn't update to VRAMC3, it seems like the minority of the issues come from phones with that update and is utterly puzzling. I'm just glad that I got my phone before *any* updates came out.

I wonder why it seems like VRAMC3 is causing more issues, I know its 4.1.2 and has a new bootloader but is there a reason aside from that causing the issues.... It could also just be that more people are buying the Note 2 since the update.

Love it on my S4
Hey guys. I am not from around here. You will normally find me hanging out in the Nexus forums. I need some help trying to correct an issue my noob buddy caused on his E970. He brought it to me today in a boot loop and apparently he rooted it an uninstalled some GAPPS and now he has this security error and BL. Now, so far I have managed to install the drivers..... that's it. I have worked on a variety of different devices but I am really having trouble with this. I think the issue is I can not find a thread that is comprehensive enough to explain what alot of the different tools are and what they do. I mean there is
1. LGNPST
2. Teenybin
3. Freegee or something like that
Then there about 14 different file types depending on the tool you are using. I have seen;
1. dll
2. bin
3. kdz
4. tot
I have to be honest with you guys this is confusing as hell. I keep coming across dead links and old downloads and stuff that may not work. I REALLY don't like using stuff not linked from XDA as that is all I've known for many years (not to say other sites aren't reputable but you never know) I can follow instructions and figure out most stuff on my own but due to the in completion of alot of this stuff and dead links I am kinda stuck I am gonna give it another go tomorrow but in the meantime if someone wants to drop me a link or word of advice as to where to at least start it would be awesome. I am pretty handy generally with this kind of thing but I guess that goes to show you sometimes you are only as good as the tools and directions you are working with. Thanks XDA Community! :good:
Okay the first three.
3.lgnpst is the program you will need to use to fix the security error which was caused by removing bloat without unlocking bootloader.
2.teenybin is used with lgnpst to unlock bootloader, update partitions to jb, and install recovery. It doesn't install firmware but could be used to restore if a rom was copied to sd to flash.
3.freegee is used to unlock bootloader and install recovery on a working phone.
Next four.
1.dll are files needed by windows.
2.bin is the extension the file needs to be for using lgnpst.
3.kdz is stock firmware for use with lgflashtool (used mainly for international phones)
4.tot is the extension the stock firmware is released with which will be renamed to bin before using lgnpst.
In the additional info section of teenbin thread there is a click to show content button that will have have links and guide for lgnpst. Use the tSilenzio version and it will register the DLL files on install.

Thank you. This is exactly what I needed. Someone just to say "these are what these things are and what they do". I do have to admit I don't fault my buddy too much for soft bricking this thing as of all the devices I've rooted or flashed to this seems the most confusing. And also it's very odd that if you remove BW without first unlocking the bootloader you get this error..... Why can't they all just be as easy as a Nexus? Lol.

A few other things that may help.
1.lgnpst is a pain with windows 8
2.it will not work with USB 3.0
3.be sure to right click lgnpst exe and run as admin
I got my OG right after release but had already been following forum, and would hate to have to jump in now and try to figure things out.

Well its especially difficult when someone just brings you a phone and you've never even seen it booted up and you don't know all the weird quirky rules it has (like if you uninstall GAPPS without unlocking the bootloader then you get a bootloop.) lol Otherwise it seems like a solid phone. It has almost the same specs as my Nexus 4.

This link is for a flashable zip of rooted stock jb. If you used the teenybin files with lgnpst then flashed it with recovery the end result would be stock rom with unlocked bootloader, root, and custom recovery.

Real quick.... So once I've got everything back to stock and get the boot loader unlocked.. Will I then be able to modify system stuff, uninstall bloat etc and avoid that evil security error boot loop?

Yes, once you're unlocked & rooted you will be good to go. I would recommend flashing an established rom and installing the GApps that are recommended. It would be a lot more convenient and less of a hassle.
Make sure you are using TWRP, CWM was causing bugs with flashing of some roms. Hope this helps.

Awesome and once I've flashed a good rom. Would that then circumvent any future boatloads caused by modifications etc.? So in other words are those proprietary (catches) cooked out when the devs set up a rom? I would imagine so. I know most of us folks hate that kinda thing... Lol
BTW any tips on a good solid stable Jelly Bean Rom? Would want it to be pretty stable since it's not my phone... Lol

I really want an LG G2..... Oooh yeah... Thanks again everyone and maybe some one will find the instructions in this thread helpful.

Hello again all, I just have a few questions about rooting my sprint gn2 before i get started. I have found several instructional guides through xda (thanks to all that post them would be lost without ya!) however i am concerned because i am running the new updated version that some of these methods may cause me some issues. I suppose my question is most of these guides were made quite some time ago, and this update has only been around a few months now, is it safe to follow for example this guide http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9zF6x1MURM&hd=1&list=SPwCVKEYxr_z7FBQYT32dbYw_kdSJmSDH2Do I need to revert back to a prior update somehow? I have searched for a few hours now and there does not seem to be much information on rooting the device after the latest update. Looking forward to running custom roms thanks for the help.
PS if there is anything you think i should know before starting feel free to chime in i will definitely send a thanks your way!
PSS I see that 4.3 locks down the bootloader completely.... this is bull****...... Anyone know whether the phone i get through insurance when i "break" my phone would come loaded with 4.3 as well?

Edit: I'm not sure all about kingo so I can't give any suggestions.
Thank you, I had read about kingoroot and am sure that is the route i will be taking (as it is my only choice) however would i still be able to backup using twrp? will i still be able to flash custom roms? these are really the only two things i care for doing.. and running root only apps like titanium backup but that is a given. Thanked for your help btw.
Cheers

That I'm not sure. You would no longer have unlocked bootloader and I always thought the two ways to have custom recovery were if bootloader was unlocked or via a safestrap method. You would have root so I'd check and see if recoveries exist for sprint note ii after this root method of 4.3
I believe you would be unable to flash a new rom/kernel as they require a custom recovery to do so, and with out a unlocked boot loader you wouldn't be able to get a custom recovery.

+1... go to the Sprint forum for the best answer. Each carrier's version on the phone is slightly different.
