[Q] SlimBean Compatible Kernels? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello Mates!
I have got a "small" problem. I use Slim Bean Stable 1.0 with android 4.2.1. I was searching for a good kernel for this rom, but siyah kernel has made a brick of my SII. I have successfully unbricked it, but I would like to know, if there are compatible kernels with Slim Bean! Please tell me, if you know any working kernels for this rom.
Thanks

Either he tried flashing a compatible kernel,
Or he re-flashed the rom,
Or he flashed stock using Odin.

Help Jelly Bean ROM

Hello
I have no experience with rooting and ROMs, but i want to learn! I want to try jelly bean on my sgs2 and i am not sure where to start!
What guides and which ROMs would you recommend for a beginner?
Thank you!
first of all you have to be sure what model is your phone, exactly, like i9100 or i9100G or i9100T
then you have to flash a custom kernel that is already rooted, it must be for your phone and current android version. be careful with that or you can brick your phone, read a lot before doing any thing to your phone
then via custom recovery that is included on all custom kernels you can flash any JB rom compatible with your device
there are so much Jb custom roms you can try and see which is best for you
you can start with cm10 that is 4.1.2 jb rom

I have model GT-I9100
Do you know of any good guides that I should read? It is pretty hard to find out which is relevant for me!
When you say CM10, should i install a clean one, or is it wise to get something like JellyBam? Should I expect it to be unstable and problematic?
Hi,
You can find all the information related to custom ROMs to your model here
And regarding Guides for S2, here.

Most importantly, I hope you're aware of the eMMC brickbug. If you haven't, now is as good a time as any to do so. Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28388184

Siyah - Dual Boot - Black Screen?

Not sure if i'm doing something wrong, essentially when i try to dual boot with siyah kernel 5.0.1 i just get black screen, if i boot my stock ICS it's fine, i've tried a few ROM's (all JB) and they all just black screen when trying to boot, turning off and back on and going into primary is fine - am i missing anything obvious?
yes you are missing the reading part about it in the siyah thread..
JB roms are not supported yet

well if its the early JB 4.1 based rom u can Dual boot using siyah 5.0.1, if its newer than that (4.1.2>4.2.1>4.2.2) then siyah v5.0.1 will not support the same, and u will get black screen on boot

That may be the issue, Its CyanogenMod 10.1 i'm trying which i assume is based on 4.1.2 or earlier, out of curiosity is it just a dualboot scenario that is unsupported. I.E. if i flashed with CM10.1 just on its own with siyah 5.0.1 it would work?

for cm10.1 u should use the latest siyah v6.0b5 since siyah v5.0.1 will not be able to boot CM10.1 as its based on android 4.2.1 for u

Do remember that CM10.1 isn't fully supported by Siyah v6.0b5 for now and u might face issues.
Better to install CM10.1 and stay with the stock Cm10.1 kernel that comes with it to get better results

Apologies, Won't CM 10.1 just run on top of the siyah kernel? or by flashing to it will it replace the kernel with its own
I'm not ultimately loyal to a kernel, i just want to run jelly bean on my S2
Thanks

Need to flash a new kernel

Hey guys,
I recently rooted my galaxy s2 with jeboo kernel and installed jelly bam rom v7.6 Android 4.2.2. Everything is working fine. But I found out my kernel doesn't support few overclocking apps.
I want to flash siyah kernel v6 now. I prefer Odin method. Can I flash a kernel in the same way now? Does it affect my rom? Do I need to back up rom and apps and re install them after installing a new kernel? Is siyah jelly bean rom compatible with all custom roms?
And which is the best kernel considering overall features?
Thanks

U can try the latest Dorimanx Kernel which does support OC (overclocking) or UV (undervolting) for u

Why odin? Since u already have custom recovery, flash it using CWM.
Flashing a kernel will affect ur rom, but not ur apps or data. So u do not need to re-install rom or apps. But a backup is always recommended.
If the kernel is not compatible with ur rom, you may get stuck in a bootloop. Siyah has different versions for different roms. v6 is not completely supported for 4.2.2 roms. Choose Siyah mcm v5 vsync kernel or go for Dorimanx.
To ensure a clean install, use a kernel cleaning script before flashing the new kernel.

[SOLVED][Q] Help need for new S2

Hi, I have given my wife my old white S2 after deciding to get a black one for myself (from Amazon UK). I had managed to root it and put on an aokp 4.2.2 rom (aokp_i9100_jb-mr1_build6 )which works great although I can't remember which site I used for the instructions. So I get my new black one and start thinking about doing the same...
I thought it would be a good idea to update it to latest stock version to start with but OTA update says my phone is up to date.
KIES finds new firmware but it hangs at 100% complete and goes nowhere.
Here are some numbers:-
Version 4.0.4
Baseband Version i900 BULP8
Build No. IMM76D.BULPG
This BULP8 version looks a bit odd.
I would appreciate some advice on how to proceed...is this a "funny" version?
Here's hoping, alfie

To Root you device, flash one of these Custom Kernels: CF-Root (the best) - PhilZ - SpeedMod
To install AOKP 4.2.2 ROM: Flash Omega v12 or Android Open Kang Project or JellyBAM
To install AOSP 4.2.2 ROM: Flash CyanogenMod 10.1
And don't forget to hit the thanks button
Also....while you're running 4.0.4, DO NOT wipe data, cache or dalvik....
Search "emmc brickbug" for why....
Sent from my Rooted, De bloated Stock JB powered S2 via PhilZ kernel and Tapatalk 2....
Yeah, you csn run gotbrick bug from playstore to check your chip. If it's sane you're good, if it's not I advice you to flash a safe kernel (siyah v5).
And then you'll be good to go for flashing CM and s#!t.
Also, stick to xda, not other sites.

At times even the so called 'Sane' becomes 'Insane', so flash a brick bug free kernel like 'Siyah v5.0.1" from 'ODIN' to ensure safety on recovery wipes
I'm feeling a bit confused and dim...I've read so many threads...
I found these Philz files
PhilZ-cwm6-BULPG-ATL-3.99-signed.zip
PhilZ-cwm6-BULPG-ATL-3.99.tar.md5
The BULPG seems to match my phone - but which one do I use?
Or, if I going to use siyah I need more detailed instructions... argrrh..please help
First is for recovery second for odin

May be its time for u to do some Reading in the first place ( since ur confused for now to choose a kernel properly to flash )
Head to the link below and start reading the same for now

Good luck !
hmm reading I've done, it's understanding that is the problem.
I thought I'd managed it, I had it rooted with the Philz file and tried installing the aokp 4.2.2 rom but now it won't boot at all... I fear I've done something terrible.
I can boot to the "Philz Touch 3" recovery screen.
EDIT : Update Re-installed the ROM and now I'm up and running thanks everyone, alfie
