Dedication
==========
This program is dedicated to the memory of my beloved parents Regina and Marcu Sloim.
Due to them and the no-cost (supported by state) system of university education in Romania of 1979-1984 I could become a computer engineer.
To all people who want to see my homeland, Romania.
To all people who still believe that humanity is above money and profit and all people are equal.

FAQ
===
1. What you see on screen when you connect something?
For HDD, Memory Flash or CardReader, you can see in Explorer(Resco Explorer or WM Explorer) the new unit labeled as "Hard Disk".
For keyboard, you don't see , but in any program using the device own keyboard (Touch Screen or slide - HTC Touch Pro), you can just type on external USB keyboard.
For mouse you see a yellow-green mouse cursor on screen which follows the external mouse movements.
For DVD you see : "External Mass Storage"
For Serial port a little window prompts you to configure the serial port settings and communication protocol.
Or start "Zeno Terminal" in "Start-Programs-Zeno USB Host Drivers" for configuration, or start "Zeno 232 USB Serial" in "Start-Programs-Zeno USB Host Drivers", for configuration.
For digital camera start the program "Zeno PTP View".
2. Is program limited to only devices with USB-host?
Yes and no. It depends on the hardware construction, accesible USB connector, even older devices without usb-host can have usb-host functionality. Many models and manufacturers has hidden this feature which really exists in their devices. The only way to find is to test it and if not working, search if other users succeeded. Original Fujitsu Siemens Pocket Loox 560N has included by default usb-host connector, with support for HDD-Memory Flash only.
3. Cables and power supply - which ones?
I always tested it with powersupply incoupled for my Loox, even if HDD or DVD-unit self was powered separated. More info on how to build an injected USB power supply here:
http://tabletblog.com/2006/01/usb-power-injector-for-usb-host-mode.html
or here:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=Mini+USB+power+injector&btnG=Search
You can use the cables/accessories from an external powered usb 2.5" hdd unit and adapter mini-usb to usb (usb cables with 2 heads at one end for external power supply).
4. Does it work on my device?
There's nothing harmful, nothing malicious hidden in my program, so you can test it on your devices without risk for dataloss or other unpleasant effects.
The installation (CAB) is not locked to certain device, it is uninstallable, it is not compressed to avoid install problems on certain devices. On my FSC Loox 560N I could install/uninstall without problems. Test my program, if it works, I'll be glad I could help other users, without thinking of money or profit. If it does not work, I can not guarantee I can help you. Just try and see.
5. Can it read data from attached DVD-unit or NTFS partitions?
Yes. The DVD unit I used is an Acer USB-based CD&DVD-RW made 2004 for an Acer Tablet-PC.
6. Barcode readers?
A user commented that even an USB barcode reader worked ok.
7. Incompatibility problems with other programs?
I can only test on my FSC Loox 560N. You can try on other devices and report in this thread on your experiences.
8. Legal aspects. Is this program legal?
Yes. All informations and sources are based on free available information and sources. No licences or copyrights were infringed. All is legal to use.
9. How much does it cost?
This program made by me, Zeno Sloim, is completeley free to use and test. I do not demand any payment or any other material form of recompense.
My program is done as Freeware and may be used by anyone.
However it may be not used or included by any person or company in a shareware product or which demands paying.

I have installed them on my Samsung Omnia 2 GT-i8000 with a cooked 6.5.3 rom and I am trying a USB host cable that work in a Galaxy S2 but it does not work.
May be the cable is not compatible or I have to roll back to official samsung ROM?
Thanks a lot for your work
Update: It does not work also with official rom
Cable or this phone or WinMob 6.5 does not support USB Host?

You should run the *.exe files on a PC. I guess, ActiveSync does the rest for you.

Just to clear up the most asked question in this thread, this app will NOT work with the HTC HD2, because there is no android distro available yet for that platform (SnapDragon)
Gen.Y DualBOOT: Dual boot solution for Windows Mobile devices with XDANDROID
Before I start, I wanted to give my props to all android developers that made android possible on our devices: please support these guys: XDANDROID team (Diamond/Raphael/Blackstone..), Topaz Android Team & others that I might have missed
*Just to clear things up, this is only a bootlauncher app, u still need to install android for yourself on your device
Introduction
Android on WM devices is getting more and more popular, especially with the latest developments, and it's almost ready for daily use. I wanted to have an app so we could easily boot into both WM & Android, and Gen.Y DualBOOT was the solution. This release is made for VGA devices, and supports booting Android both from Internal Storage (moviNAND, e.g. Touch Diamond) & Storage Card (SDMemory, e.g. Touch Pro). WVGA version and QVGA version is also ready. This app has been tested on WM6.1, but will work perfectly on WM6.5.x as well.
Keep in mind that your android setup must be installed already at the root of your storage card in order for this app to work correctly (e.g. \Internal Storage\haret.exe or \Storage Card\haret.exe respectively)

This app is launched by a registry key created in [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\init], so it launches directly at boot after shell gets initialized.
Chefs: If u are going to cook this app into your ROM, make sure that this key gets added DURING your customization procedure (and not before!)
There are 2 checkboxes, enabling automatic boot:
AutoBoot: enabling this mode will automatically boot the OS of your choice after a 10 second countdown
> disabling autoboot will remove the countdown completely
FastBoot: enabling this mode will automatically boot the OS of your choice after a 3 second countdown (requires AutoBoot to be enabled first)
Now apart from these 2 checkboxes, u have 2 radiobuttons, which allow u to choose which OS gets automatically booted.
And last but not least, u have the 2 manual launch buttons. Pressing these buttons will directly launch (overriding autoboot) Windows Mobile or Android.
Registry
Gen.Y DualBOOT checks for 5 registry keys, which allow some form of customiation. Apart from the last key (StorageBootMode), all keys can be modified utilizing the radio & check buttons in the GUI. All of these keys can be found in:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Gen.Y\DualBOOT]
Here's quick list describing what the keys are for
"AutoBootEnabled"=dword:1 (1: enable autoboot | 0: disable autoboot)
"FastBootEnabled"=dword:0 (1: enable fastboot | 0: disable fastboot)
"AutoBootAndroid"=dword:1 (1: boot Android | 0: boot Windows)
"StorageBootMode"=dword:0 (1: boot from Storage Card (SDMemory) | 0: boot from Internal Storage (moviNAND))
v1.0.6.0 and newer: "AndroidBootFolder"="string" ("": boot from root of storage (e.g. \Storage Card\haret.exe)| "andboot": boot from \Storage Card\Andboot\haret.exe, string can be edited in registry)
v1.0.5.0 and older: "AndroidBootFolder"=dword:0 (1: boot from \Android\ folder on storage (e.g. \Storage Card\Android\haret.exe)| 0: boot from root of storage)
The example values are the ones that are in the CAB for Internal Storage devices.

There are 5 versions available:
QVGA, boot from Storage Card (e.g. Vogue, Kaiser,..)
WQVGA, boot from Storage Card
VGA, boot from Internal Storage (e.g. Diamond)
VGA, boot from Storage Card (e.g. Raphael)
WVGA, boot from Storage Card (e.g. Blackstone, Topaz, Xperia,..)
Gen.Y DualBOOT v1.0.6.0 CABs (QVGA|WQVGA|VGA|WVGA)
Gen.Y DualBOOT v1.0.6.0 VisualKitchen EXT packages for Chefs (QVGA|WQVGA|VGA|WVGA)
This app MUST be installed on your internal memory in order for autoboot to work. (installing on internal storage/storage card will cause the app not to launch on boot)
Also make sure that all registry entries are correct, since an incorrect/missing registry key can cause errors (v1.0.6.0: make sure the AndroidBootFolder key is a STRING (not dword!)
For chefs: if u are also cooking in RunCC, cooking this app to the \Windows folder is recommended to save storage space (since the progress image are the same)
For chefs: u can make Gen.Y DualBOOT start faster by moving editing the following (be aware, this will not work in all roms!). Open mxipupdate_xdandroid-genyboot_100.provxml, and change "Launch62" to "Launch52" in the following line:
Code:
<parm name="Launch62" value="genyboot.exe" datatype="string"/>
The CAB works for all languages (v1.0.6.0)

Your work as always amazes me, now I can stop looking at the Exeda. Grat work again cant wait
Did I get it right, with this app I am able to choose between android and windows mobile?
And Android works "perfect" on windows mobile devices? I have seen a video showing android on blackstone, and not all of the functions were usable?
Does this works better, now?
If it turns out to be right, this would be awesome :-D
But I will need a detailed plan to get it running on my device :-D

Woohoo, this is just great! Yoz, thank you so much for everything you do for the community. Two thumbs up
I am eagerly waiting for the HTC HD2 (wvga) version this sounds soooo awesome, the development on android is just ridiculous and HTC HD2 should always have been an android.
I hate to make a thread longer without contributing content but this will go down in history. Can't wait to try it out.

Just wanted to tell you thank you for all of your hard work. This should prove to be a very useful tool for some of us
Thanks Again!!!
will there be a problem if i put this on my TP2 (WVGA-480x800)?
You know what this is exactly I am looking for or thinking of why cant we have dual boot....
Waiting for cab version.....
1.This Amazing DualBOOT runs in any WM 6.1 & 6.5 Device or just in some models?
2.Can Run in My HTC X7510 WM 6.1 using VGA Landscape screen orientation?
Sorry to be a noob.
Is there a version of Android for the Omnia i910?
I tried searching but came up blank. Also... if so, I thought that downloading the android OS would replace the WM OS. Is this true, or does it just overlap WM, and this app makes it possible to run either?
I know this app isn't WQVGA. I hope it becomes WQVGA.

+1 for QVGA VOGUE. I've been running Android on my Vogue since mid-December.
The last output is:
intel powerclamp does not run on family 15 model 4
intel_rapl: driver does not support CPU family 15 model 4
I have a screenshot, but links are not allowed for n00bs.
And then, black screen, with the machine still running (fans spinning and screen does display black screen but does not go to "no input" mode).
I also have a similar problem. How are you getting that last output? Mine asks guest/ resident then what language... then I get black screen.

I did not do anything to get the last output, it appears underneath the "guest/resident" selection before it goes to black.
I can share a picture of it whenever i have made 10 comments because of security reasons of this forum.
Lol. What about posting it on Photobucket and giving a link on here?

I have the same problem ( black screen ) after booting new Remix 3.0.101 ... ( Samsung laptop AMD / ufi )... Before last update I have not this problem ...This build needed much work yet..Many errors
Many desktops will have this issue due to video drivers not being included with Remix. Even with other Linux OS's, this will happen with proprietary video drivers. On Linux you have to use "nomodeset" to make the OS bootable so that you can install graphic drivers. "Nomodestet" can be used with Remix, but you won't be able to install drivers, and people have reported it's painfully slow.
At this time, the only way to dependably run Remix on a desktop is by either USB, or in a virtual machine. Remix runs just fine in a virtual machine.
Hi all, using a Samsung ativ pc pro xe700t1c-a04uk
dual boot: Windows 10 pro / android remix os 3.0
screen 11.6 full hd 1080p
cpu intel core i5-3317u quad core
ram 4gb
gpu intel hd 4000 (128mb dedicated)
hdd 256gb msata ssd
I run remix os 3.0 from a 64GB 544/MBs msata drive in a usb 3.0 enclosure.
Very fast system. Everything working including apps and games and all hardware (touchpen/touchscreen/gyro/accele/light/nfc/otg/gamepad/cam/mic/sound/gfx/etc).
Problem: Its not a major problem but the screen dimming or brightness control dosent work and thats the only problem.
The samsung ative pc pro xe700t1c is by far the most superior convertible laptop/tablet in the world!
Request to developers:
Can you please implement the sim function for internet and calling. Also can you please implement a gamepad configuration menu just like the keyboard config menu?
Thank you very much for all the good stuff remix team.

hi all i thought this turorial might help you guys....
This is a working usb install media creator method for os remix installation and legacy bios circumventing all known errors made for noobs including USING full drive internal storage space etc.
You will be able to use this usb stick for future creation of other usb install media
you will have the choice to also install to hard drive
you will need 2 x usb drives and require drive write speed to be higher than 10 mb/s
the first drive will be the installer drive and the second will be the actual usb drive used to run remix os.
For first drive basic fat 32 install you will need rufus 2.9 usb boot media creator
after creation of the installer drive keep it safe i reccommend you use a 4gb drive $4/£2 off ebay but get something thats got a write speed higher than 10 mb/s or else install will fail!
Format the second drive to your liking ext 4 for example on your pc with minitool partition or acronis disk manager (make sure the drive is formatted as primary and set to active flag)
1. Create fat 32 usb boot disk with first usb drive and rufus 2.9 and the remix os iso
2.make sure after creation you boot up the usb drive and enter remix os then shutdown and boot up again to write the config files
3.make sure you dont boot up the ufi version of the boot up, only use the legacy version (it will have ufi next to boot drive in bios usb boot up list)
4.after you enter remix os go to settings and download the update (ota) (this is the main fix)(if this update fails you cannot proceed further with instructions)(DOSENT APPLY TO REMIX OS 3.0+ INSTALLATION)
5. After ota update reboot and enter remix os again and let android upgrade
6.after this stage is complete your fat32 remix os usb bootable drive is ready to create a usb drive that runs remix os from the drive itself.
7.insert the second drive in a usb hub and boot up the computer with both drives in the computer and boot from the first drive (the usb remix os installer drive)
8.boot up and at the grub boot menu (it should look blue with yellow writing not the black ufi version) press tab and type: INSTALL=1
9. then press enter then you will enter usb media creation menu select scan usb drives and select the second drive (the remix os running drive)
10. It will ask you what you want to format the drive as so select do not format option (becus you already formatted it)
11.then it will ask you to install first grub boot menu say yes
12. Then it will ask you to install second boot grub efi menu say yes
13. Next it will ask you if you want to format the boot partition or something like that say *** no ***
14. Then it will ask you if you want read/write privelage say yes
15. It will proceed to write the remix os onto the drive
16. When finished it will ask to restart (at this point i just switch the pc off by holding power button then restart and boot off the new second drive to run the os from it already upgraded too)
note: If wanting ntfs version of remix os then its a little complicated than this and you will need to use imgtools to increase the data.img file on the ntfs drive after creation with the first usb media creator drive.
The remix os ota update addresses the boot media creation errors. After the ota update all drives created with the grub menu installer boot up as they should but only ufi boot up option hangs!
Hope this helps hit the thanks dont forget so i know how many people were helped by this! enjoy.
I have the ativ pc pro xe700t1c the uk version with intel core i5 quad core and its also a convertible tablet with msata ssd as hdd drive and as you all probbaly know android was created for fast flash memory and linux format os so the best combination is an ssd and ext4 linux file format. I have a 64gb 544 mb/s msata drive in a usb 3.0 enclosure which i use to boot remix os and run it off it. Its perfectly smooth and fast enough 5 secs to boot and the ativ pc pro convertible laptop/tablet is fully compatible hadware software wise, no problems at all. The 5 year old Ativ pc pro gets 119,000+ score in antutu benchmark same as the latest LG G5 with the latest adreno 530 gpu/snapdragon 820 cpu which costs approx £600 now in retail!!! I bought the Ativ pc pro convertible laptop/tablet for only £200 two weeks ago with accessories (ethernet dock etc) worth alone £100 on its own off ebay!!! On top of all that its also a windows 10 pro convertible laptop/tablet system which on its own without android was initially worth £1200 five years ago and still costing approx £500 even now in retail. So what im trying to say here is that for only £200 i get a £600 android 6.0 laptop/tablet and i also get a £500 windows 10 pro laptop tablet ALL IN ONE. Muahahahahahaha haaaaa hahahaha kekekeke.
Same problem here, but I'm not installing on a USB.

Then your only choice is to install Remix in a virtual machine, or wait for more drivers to be added.
So I installed windows 11 on my sony Vaio VPCEG3AEN yesterday and I got an error during installation, so I used Rufus and installed windows as ON THE GO in the hdd.
Now the laptop is running smoothly but I am having trouble setting up the bluetooth.
Firstly there is no option to turn on bluetooth and when I try to add a new device I get a error saying couldn't connect

In the device manager I tried the default bt driver from windows and various other drivers including "Qualcomm Atheros AR3011" bluetooth driver but I keep getting "" icon after refreshing the device manager page, and in the device's description it says
"WINDOWS HAS STOPPED THIS DEVICE BECAUSE IT HAS REPORTED PROBLEMS. (CODE 43)"
Its not a hw damage or loose connection, i have windows 10 installed on another hdd which was previously used in the same laptop, so the bluetooth works fine in windows 10.
I haven't found a way to fix the bt yet
It would be really helpful if anyone have any idea to fix this issue
Update: I tried to backup the bt driver from windows 10 hdd using driver booster and after restoring the driver in windows 11 the bt started working, but some time after a reboot the bt stops working and I have to restore the driver again.
Haven't found a permanent solution

So I installed windows 11 on my sony Vaio VPCEG3AEN yesterday and I got an error during installation, so I used Rufus and installed windows as ON THE GO in the hdd.
Now the laptop is running smoothly but I am having trouble setting up the bluetooth.
Firstly there is no option to turn on bluetooth and when I try to add a new device I get a error saying couldn't connect

What happens if you just uninstall the driver?
Nothing, in the device manager the bluetooth device gets the default ms driver and it doesn't work .
So now as a temporary fix I have to restore the driver over and over after a reboot or shutdown (sometimes it works even after reboot).

You may try Driver Easy software to scan your drivers.
You could try taking out the cmos battery for a solid 10-20 minutes and see if it still does that. Make sure your pc is shut down, and the power cable is removed from the power supply.
I had the same issue, but with the intel ethernet controller. Properties showed the 43 error, device manager shows that it doesn't work.
Try removing the cmos. Good luck!

Well for me I got it working with a command line tool. How ever my laptop of choice is a google pixlebook and the Bluetooth was active just would never connect to any devices. I searched all year looking for an answer and finel dropped into my head that i should try it from command line. There is an install package that can be downloaded and a good tutorial.Bluetooth-Comand-Line-Tools.

Check your device
Before starting any complicated fixes, make sure you’ve checked these things:
Make sure your device supports Bluetooth
Make sure your device has turned on Bluetooth
Make sure your PC has turned on Bluetooth
Here’s how to check on Windows 11 PC:
1) Press the Windows logo key + A to open Quick Settings.
2) Make sure the Bluetooth button is enabled.
3) You can re-enable Bluetooth on PC by turning off Bluetooth and then enabling it later. Then check if your device can work on your PC. It may work for some users.

Must be a common issue as I have exactly the same issue and the same photo's to display too.....I tried a Co called Driver Updater, the free version but that was totally useless, did nothing then they harassed to upgrade repeatedly. Still not got a fix for my W11 VPC but looking into it. Pity Sony have dumped the product range as they used to be pretty good for drivers etc....no longer. I just need to get my mitts on a driver, thought it would be quite simple ....ha!
finally found the driver pack at:
https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp72001-72500/sp72163.exe
and its now up and working on my Sony Vaio VPCEH on Windows 11
Run the Bluetooth troubleshooter
Press the Windows + I keys to open the Settings menu.
Select Troubleshoot from the left.
Click on Other troubleshooters.
Hit the Run button for Bluetooth.
Wait for the troubleshooter to complete the process and do the needful if asked.
I first had the BT issue on my laptop when attempting to use Windows 11 Phone Link to link my iPhone. I got this:
I have been researching this for two weeks. The same thing happened with other programs emulating Phone LInk i.e Wormhole and iMyfone, (Wormhole worked on my Windows 10 desktop and allows me to control all functions of iPhone 14 pro). I did all the installing/reinstalling/getting latests BT drivers from Intel etc. used the BT troubleshooter, which kept telling me that BT radio was not turned on even though it was, and when the troubleshooter offered to turn it on and I agreed, nothing happened and the process then repeated itself.... then I noticed that my iPhone was showing in BT in device manager, so I paired and unpaired etc, other devices like, Razer Pro click mouse, speakers etc all worked perfectly. So there is nothing wrong as far as my diagnosis can make out , with my BT. I have latest Windows 11 updates 22H2, I have uninstalled and reinstalled the Phone Link app, tried safe boot and selective startup, going though the usual procedure of disabling services half and half to figure out if a driver is buggy. (by then it was 4am in the morning and I was gurgling spittle all over the keyboard and the neghbours were knocking on my walls because my shouts of frustration and expletive laden rants at Microsoft had woken them up etc etc) So the app is NOT seeing BT and the sames is true of emulations of the same software. Therefore ,the problem must be within the Windows 11 OS settings somewhere. Also as with another poster on here the BT on off radio button disappeared, I found it again but in a completely different location (I am confusing myself now cos I can't remember exactly where ,but it was through Control Panel) I have posted all over Microsofts communities and support pages, found other users with the same or very similar problems with this app. Microsoft specialist have suggested only things I have already done.I have City and Guilds and Comp Tia certs. for Windows systems and have been fixing them since Windows 98 (all through them and the Vista BSD wars ho ho ho ) so I am not exactly a dunce ... eeeeerm! and yet I cant fix this one seemingly simple bug. Any suggestions or ideas cheerfully tried. Thanks.

A WinPE ( read: Minimal OS designed to prepare a computer for installation and servicing Windows ) that needs at minimum 2GB available RAM to run? A joke, isn't it?
Microsoft states that only 1 GB available RAM is suffiicient to successfully run a WinPE.
The Hirens PE promoted here by nature isn't a Windows Pre Installation Environment ( WinPE ), but a Wndows Recovery Environment ( WinRE ). IMO it's overloaded with a collection of 3rd-party windows applications one mostly doesn't need.
For Windows 11 users - this forum got created for:
If you use this Hirens PE to launch Windows Setup ( setup.exe ) you must add the WinPE-WMI and WinPE-SecureStartup optional components. If you don't include these optional components, you may see an error that your PC doesn't meet the minimum hardware requirements.
Amazing to see this and to see that it is still somewhat still being developed & continued by other users contributing! I remember the original release of this software fondly and it has been most helpful.
One thing I would suggest that I wish was available with the original release is making an installer or proper boot image set-up specifically for flash drives. Although many PC's still have disc drives, most current laptops do not. I mean, I was able to use the .iso image and create using software that makes .iso bootable off of flash drives, but that was rather more trouble than I would have liked and is probably pretty complicated for most novice users. Also, processing off of flash drives is faster than optically from discs...
At 2.8GB you're better off with a VHDX-boot USB and get the full Windows experience (everything just works). The hdd and imaging tools aren't what they used to be when you take into account Windows' built-in tools. Can't find a drive smaller than 32GB in stores anymore, basically the whole point of this became moot years back.
Entering mask mode aka device firmware upgrade mode (DFU) can be tricky on some Amlogic devices. Not all boxes come with a supported method to boot into DFU, and you end up having to open up the device to short the eMMC.
There's another Amlogic supported method of entering DFU, by sending a boot to USB message to the SOC through the HDMI port. It was first described using an ARM based Arduino board, later adapted for ATmega boards, and a compact all-in-one HDMI dongle. I prefer the HDMI dongle version (~$4-5), but it requires some skill to make and it won't work on any Amlogic devices that don't provide power to the HDMI port at device power-on.
Looking for the cheapest option, I recently bought an MH-ET LIVE Tiny88 for $2 /w free shipping on eBay, loaded it with the ATmega script and it worked like a charm. I'm including all the files needed to flash the Tiny88 to simplify the process for anyone else (Github mirror). Startup Linux (make a bootable USB with Ubuntu if you need), plug the Tiny88 into your computer with a microUSB cord, the red LED will flash indicating it's ready to be programmed.
To flash the Tiny88 to boot to USB (attach your computer) run:
Code:
sudo ./micronucleus --dump-progress filename i2c-flash_USB.hex
Or to have the Tiny88 boot the Amlogic box from the SDcard, flash it with:
Code:
sudo ./micronucleus --dump-progress filename i2c-flash_SDcard.hex
The Tiny88 needs to be wired to an HDMI connector:
Tiny88 pin A5 SCL (clock) to HDMI pin 15
Tiny88 pin A4 SDA (data) to HDMI pin 16
Tiny88 pin GND (ground) to HDMI pin 17
If you don't want to do any soldering, you can use an HDMI breakout board with screw-in contacts, and wrap the 3 wires around the Tiny88

To use the device after it's flashed. Plug the device into the HDMI port of the Amlogic device, power the Tiny88 via it's USB port, wait 10sec for the red light to stop flashing, power on the Amlogic device, done.

Yes very good tips for cheap money! Wish I read this a couple of months ago. I way overpaid. I connected this to this. Paid over $10 and it took me a month to program it because I'm also very lazy. Something I learned is that a larger 24C eeprom can't be substituted for the 24C02 because the address change only works properly on the 02. Also if programming on windows it is easier to program before the jumper wire for the address change is put in. I couldn't get it to program on linux at all it was much easier for me on windows. I didn't know some devices don't supply power. Maybe that is why I couldn't get it to work on other devices. Is it known if this method works on any other certified devices besides the cube? Most every other device uses a password? Hopefully this cheap Tiny88 will make it super easy for others.

Your dongle is probably more convenient to use, it reminds me of an easier to make version of this one. I saw that passthrough HDMI adapter on eBay and was wondering about it's capabilities and bandwidth. Can you leave that in and play 60fps HDR @ 4K, in YouTube for example? Any issues with DoVi at 4K with it left in? How long is your HDMI cable?

If the device has a SOC password it will still boot to USB, lsusb will show you ID 1b8e:c003 Amlogic, Inc, but SOC commands and flashing will be disabled until you enter the password. The TVBox manufacturer can also disable boot to USB by burning an eFuse (Amazon did this on the 2nd gen Cube with a firmware update) to permanently disable this recovery feature. If that happens, the TVbox will ignore the HDMI message and boot normally.
There are also at least a few devices that don't provide power to the HDMI port immediately (confirmed on the FireTV pendant and 3rd gen Cube). It's easy to tell with this HDMI dongle because it has an LED that indicates it's getting power. I don't know how common this is for Amlogic boxes, but it's something to keep in mind if your device isn't getting you into DFU. You can check pin18 with a multimeter on your HDMI breakout board to verify there is power on boot.
Yeah, I think at this point most certified boxes either ship with a SOC password or USB boot disabled, or a firmware update has been pushed out to do that.

Yeah, you can use Amlogic's update program, which my script runs.
Code:
./update password password.bin
password.bin just contains a password which I think is always 16characters (16byes)?
To quickly check if there is a SOC password, you can use pyamlboot (run this 2x):
Code:
python socid.py
Outputs something like:
Code:
Firmware Version :
ROM: 2.4 Stage: 0.0
Need Password: 1 Password OK: 0
Need Password: 1 indicates the SOC is password protected. After entering the correct password with update, the output of socid.py will be:
Code:
Need Password: 1 Password OK: 1

Amlogic's update program can talk to a device connected in USB Gadget or DFU mode? I see pyamlboot supports this but the update program does too? Is there a list of the supported functions of USB Gadget mode that involve no exploit? I read the supplied Amlogic PDF for the update program but it doesn't cover USB Gadget mode functions rather only the U-Boot functions of the update program.

Yeah, the update program can do a few things before hardware initialization (DFU mode), as well as after the bootloader is loaded. Documentation is skimpy, besides the PDF you can get a list of operations by just running ./update
Options are limited before hardware initialization. There is entering the SOC password, reading the SOC registers (./update rreg), getting the chip ID (./update chipid and ./update chipinfo). I'm sure there is a lot more that update can do in DFU that I'm not aware of, by sending commands to the bootrom.
Update can load Bl2 (./update write bl2.bin 0xfffa0000 and ./update run 0xfffa0000) separately from the rest of the bootloader Bl30-Bl33 (./update bl2_boot u-boot.bin), which is in part what the Cube script uses it for.

Can an image of the entire original bootloader for some device be made into the Bl2 and Bl30-Bl33 parts just by splitting up the whole bootloader image appropriately? Assuming no changes are desired. Just to test how the update program works using these functions.

Sure, I think Bl2 is the first 65k of any G12a/b and SM1 bootloader. To write the first 65k (0x10000) of the bootloader to SRAM:
Code:
./update write u-boot.bin 0xfffa0000 0x10000
To run it in SRAM:
Code:
./update run 0xfffa0000
And to write and run the rest of the bootloader, which will then continue to load the kernel (boot.img) on the eMMC:
Code:
./update bl2_boot u-boot.bin
Note: this assumes the SOC run address is 0xfffa0000, which I again think is the same for all G12a/b and SM1 SOCs (can check the SOC data sheet to confirm).
BTW did you have a chance to test your HDMI passthrough breakout board? To see if you can play 60fps @ 4k HDR and DoVi? I want to get one if it does work.

I've only tried the ATtiny88, but I would guess the original I2C program from Tchebb would work on the ATtiny85 as well. You would need to take his source and compile it for the ATtiny85 instead. I wrote out the steps for the ATtiny88 here that you can use as a guide.
The MH-ET LIVE Tiny88 was the cheapest AVR I found that can be programmed by a computer over USB. I'm not sure if you are working with a developer board that uses an ATTiny85 or the IC itself. If you are only working with the IC then you are going to need another board like an Arduino to program it, in which case it might be easier to just use Arduino board itself to send the [email protected] command to your Amlogic HDMI port.
Hi thank you for your effort and sharing .
Actually i have some Digispark attiny85 its very cheap
And my plan is to combined it with this adapter
To make a mini hacking tool
It would be more advanced in future than the Amlogic HDMI Boot Dongle
thanks again for you and Tchebb to make it happen.
Ok, I tried to quickly recompile the program for the ATtiny85, but I got errors. It looks like the ATtiny85 doesn't have TWI, and uses a TWI mode implemented through USI. Basically this means that Tchebb's program would have to be modified to work with the ATtiny85. I'm not sure how much work would be involved in doing that. You could ask Tchebb his thoughts over on his github page.
Does the ATtiny85 have an advantage in your case over the ATtiny88? The are both around the same price. What would you be able to do with the ATtinys that you can't do with Superna9999's HDMI dongle?
