Bluetooth on Windows Phone - Windows Phone 7

Well!
I am a newbie to this forum, or in the language of this website, a noob! The same holds for my experience when it comes to buying a new cell phone. I am pretty much enticed by th Windows Phone7 and now windows phone8 . But I also came to know that certain regular features such as Bluetooth in particular, are missing. Should I still buy it or shift to some other option. Though I just gave away my heart to its appealing look. Experienced members, please suggest me a solution
Thanks

if u need functionality at the cost of security(not at all times), go for android..if u want a good user experience and supertight security at any cost, go for windows phone..if u have simply incredibly large pocket go for iphone..and keep in mind that u ll have to unlock ur windows phone if want to have the best experience..if u decide to go for a windows phone, u better get a nokia lumia 710 or any htc..also know that u cant install apps off the marketplace if u have a wp7..android is best for those who dont give a sh** about security..but still android offers some good security apps..
keep in mind that all great apps and games that are available for android and iOS aren't available in wp7 devices..so ur friends might mock at u
if u dont care too much about security, just go for a nexus 4(its a great phone, and it has the best customisability) or an iphone 4s(not 5) which costs less still giving an awesome user experience with all the iTunes apps being compatible with it..and if its jailbroken, its another BOMB..a fantastic device i say..i was previously not an apple fanboy(neither am i now, coz i hate iphone 5, and all iPads)..a jailbroken iphone 4s can do anything for u..while android too can, it has laggy interface(whatever be the specs, it still lags) as the whole android runs on java runtime engine and apps dont have direct access to device drivers..
why i told u a nokia lumia 710 is because its the easiest device to unlock its potential completely among all nokias..forget 820s, 920s..the 900s and 800s themselves cant be unlocked, and as far now among windows phone 7 devices, samsung(all), nokias(ones with qualcomm bootloaders and not nokia DLOAD bootloaders), HTC(all) can be unlocked but samsung 2nd gen devices cant have bluetooth file transfer as it has not been possible to install custom ROMs on them..
If i were u, i would have gone for an iphone 4s, if not possible, an android mostly a nexus 4..hope this helps..

If I may ask sir about unlock 900
I have a lumia 900 nokia. At&t . called customer support and filled out an device unlock request form. Explained that it was a gift and I never had acct with them. In 30 hours they emailed me the code and instructions. Hmm?
I have screen shot of it running T-Mobile.

android port to lumia ? or am i crazy

hi , does enyone know if there will be a port from android to lumia ?
because that would be pretty cool , having te possibilit yto run android on this epic phone
i love WP7 but there arent that many awesome apps , so thats why i would love the possibility to run android
anywayz , have fun with your phone !
and i know this isnt Q&A but that forum doesnt exist yet so i post this Q here
grtz
It will never happen. Two completely different systems. I'm coming from Android and I for one would not want to ruin this phone with putting Android on it. I find WP7 so much more modern and refreshing.
I do not miss force closes nor lag.
I'm not negative to the possibility. I'm just sure it's not possible.
Hi,
I don't think it will happen. Due to there not being that many developers for the lumia. I also thing most of the hardware could be used in android, Seeing as the HTC Desire S and the Sony Xperia Arc use the MSM8255 Snapdragon(but i could be wrong, I have only really started developing).
I just dont see any real advantage of running Android on the Lumia. It is already a great device. I could only see thing going downhill if you did. Your device would have alot of lag plus the lumia only has 512mb of ram. And everybody that has used android will tell you 512mb of ram is sufficiant but not enough to run smoothly or run any intense apps.
You could, but you'd have to ask Dark Forces Team and Cotulla to release either a port of MAGLDR or the source to it to modify the chain boot loader.
Something I'd love to see but doubt we will ever see. I personally just got a Lumia 800 and although it's a nice phone the software lapses too much and in too many places so back to Android I go...even if it is the newer Android which is skinned over and too customised!
As I know the bootloader of lumia is very secured and will not allow modifications like dualOS booting.
1. You are crazy.
2. People always want what they can't get.
Technically it is possible. We have already seen examples of porting Android to older WM devices, like HTC HD2, HTC Touch Cruise, but it involves a lot of work and knowledge in system hacking.
Once you have cracked bootloader you can boot whatever you want. All you need to do is to find a device with the same chipset already running Android and port it over. Of course there will be many driver problems like non working, BT, WiFi, camera etc, but hey, what did you expect.
I bet that there is the same question in Nexus forums - How can we port WP7 to Galaxy Nexus
If you want the Lumia with android, sell it and buy the Nokia N9
http://www.engadget.com/2012/02/10/nokia-n9-spotted-running-ice-cream-sandwich-dual-boot-in-the-wo/
damn i should hav bouth the n9 :/
would hav been better...but i still love this baby..
about time till the OS is opened up for new features....

You're both crazy, why didn't you just go Android? Strange people?
Yeah I bought this phone to get rid of Andrpid myself. I'm so sick of it!
Why the hell would you want freakin' Android to run on a WP like this?? You're crazy, that's clear
Android only has negative sides, WP is refreshing and smooth. I don't see ANY reason why you would want Android to mess up this beatiful phone.
Okay, I'm an Android hater, that's clear, but let me point it out:
Android is a copy of iOS (it's just boring)
It lags all the way
You need a nuclear power plant to keep it running for 1 day
The user experience is not consistent on all devices (not even with the same OEM!!)
Updates? Yes, if you do it all yourself
Open? Oh, thank you for your openness Android, and the malware...
I can go on if you'd like, but I think it's clear why I don't see this as a good idea...
Lol, that was one of the dumbest trollings I've seen, _Madmatt.
For me its WP which only has negative sides. Its locked, limited, the interface is counter intuitive in many places, can't multitask properly, most apps are inferior to android ones, upgrades are rolled out slowly and with the locked product codes you never know if you'll get the next one, etc.
Ah, and android is no copy of iOS, but the wp7 tiles ARE a copy of android widgets, with some functionality removed.
As for the hardware of the lumia 800, it is superior to my 2 years old N1, with a better CPU, GPU, and the same memory. And my N1 flies running MIUI, so even a crippled phone like this should even be better.
Why did I get a Lumia? I was offered it, tried to use it for some time, gave up, gave it to the wife, who is now begging for me to give her her blade back. Even the better screen and camera were insufficient to convince her to keep using the Lumia. She keeps complaining of the apps, of the terrible battery, of being unable to do anything. Even changing a ringtone is a mess, having to cut and resample a MP3 file before being able to use it as a ringtone.
So, it seems like the Lumia will end in a drawer until someone manages to port android or meego to it. Unfortunately as it was a gift I can't sell it, or it would be gone by now.

LOL, you think I have such things? No way mate
Android and WP7 are two completely different beasts. No point in comparing them it's all about personal preference.
I come from Android and WP7 suits me so much better even though I liked the freedom of Android compared to WP. I rooted and flashed roms like crazy. But I got tired of acting beta tester. So much bugs here and there on Android. Specially if running custom roms.
Sure there are more apps also with more functionality. But I prefer the metro styled WP7 apps as they most often fit the design of the OS. That can't be said about Android apps. Often ugly and no one looks the same making the user experience much worse.
The lagg was the biggest issue for me with Android though. No matter the hardware (SGSII) there is always lag because of how the Android OS is built up. Even ICS won't fix this fully with its hardware acceleration. This is a area where Google has failed. Giving a smooth user experience. Both iPhone and WP7 has this and understand its importance but Android can't unless they rebuild it from the ground which I don't think will ever happen.
Completely agree with ^^
I was active Android ROM builder, tester, themer etc for more than 2 years., but I think I just got tired of endless battle with force closes and laags. The biggest problem with android is that it does not run on native code but on interpreted layer dalvikvm. You can try as hard as you want, but you will always need double horse power for the same tasks on other platforms.
That's also explains why WP7 is perfectly smooth with x2 less CPU and RAM while latest Google flagship with nearly desktop PC power suffers laagspikes here and there. While those small laag spikes are less visible on smartphones things are just getting worse with tablets. Today there is no tablet running Android which can render UI transitions with 60fps.
You can read a blog from ex Google employee about that.
How about some Android graphics true facts?
I agree with you guys, after using android from G1,htc hero, desire S,nexus one,sg1 and 2,galaxy nexus,lg optimus black and apple 4 and 3gs with all the cusotm roms and modifications none of them stand above wp7 smoothness. I can say i never had a lag on my phone ever, where android and ios would lag here and there. Again e-mail aplication is just a joy to use,and all the animation how they smooth transit...it never stops to impress me. Ofcourse it has some shortcomings but definatelly will get better, especially with nokia's help.Aplication wise, well i don't use that many apps but the one i used definatelly looked better than android and apple,it's like the have more soul and not look so dull and borring.
At first i did not like the idea Nokia refused android but now i see that they done the right decision,i see it no better.

Well said. I had got used to the lag and didn't realise how bad it was until I got the Lumia.
I got sick of flashing ROMS too. CM7 was nice and stable, but when ICS roms came out I got sucked in. The gapps are all facelifted and are a lot nicer than Gingerbread. But then the ICS roms all have their issues and it just gets annoying.

[Q] Xperia Neo V or Lumia 710?

Guys, I've got a question
I recently bought a SonyEricsson Xperia Neo V and I'm within the 10 days for return (this friday the period ends) and I've been seriously considering changing it for a Nokia Lumia 710.
Which one is better? Keep in mind I have to keep the phone for 18 months for contractual reasons. I've read reviews on the internet that say music quality sucks..and I've tested it at the store and that's true, but I rarely (if ever) listen to music on my cellphone, as I have an iPod nano for that.
What I'm concerned with is Call quality. I've read complaints about it and... have nokia fixed it? Is it true that the voice sounds muffled on the other side?
Finally...is it possible for that phone to have apps installed outside the Windows Phone Marketplace? I used android and I know that it gets slugish with time, but one of it's advantages is that I can install APKs outside of the google play store.
Anyway, thanks for your time.
You can break WP7. More or less easily but it is possible. Then you can "deploy" apps from outside Marketplace. Just look in the dev forum.
There's dev unlock, interop unlock and full unlock. You interested in the last two .
go for lumia 710...windows phone are way smooth to use and interactive in my personal opinion..!!!!

Keep in mind that Windows Phone 8 will bring fundamental changes to Windows Phone. Although most developers will target as much devices as possible there will be major limitations. For instance will SQLite only be supported on WP8. If you don't need to live on the cutting edge of technology you can go with Windows Phone. However if you want upgradability and a richer Homebrew community you should go with Android. Android is way more open than Windows Phone.

After my disastrous experience trying to update Android 2.1 to 2.3 on a Xperia X8 device (the damn thing got slooooooowwwwww), I think I wouldn't care much about updates. In fact, If I stay with this device (the Neo V) I'd update to ICS 4.0.4, remove the bloatware and stay there, because I don't think the phone would support Jelly Bean or another ulterior android version.
If any of you is a current Lumia 710 user, has Nokia fixed the lack of bass for the audio?
How's call audio quality? Nobody has answered me those 2 questions, which I find rather important.

Keep in mind that lots of people bough expensive Lumia 800 and Lumia 900. Developers won't just drop WP7 support in WP8's favour. That would not pay off and would be irresponsible. They have to update their apps for WP7 as long as WP8 doesn't reach that point in stats, where it stands higher.
So, don't worry about "no update to WP8" and "you'll only get new start screen". You can safely enjoy your smooth mobile OS for a couple of years.
The same actually applies to older Android, but you have to agree that using anything else than ICS (now JB) makes jealous. Older releases were just ugly.
Ok, enough offtopic, you get the point.

Well I haven't heard anything about it so far. All we can have right now for our Lumias are custom roms with a few tweaks, however you'll be able to flash those only if you have the qualcomm bootloader, and this is mostly luck based, because it depends on the hardware revision of your specific device. Speaking of Android ports instead I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you...

Well it mostly depends on which particular apps you need...but in terms of games you'll probably be disappointed, don't expect to find stuff like Nova 3 I mean, but if you look for simple puzzle games like Cut the rope you should be ok. The top games will be available soon on WP8 devices tho.

Nope, it will get 7.8 and probably another update in the future (like 7.9 or something). Obviously this OS is much more locked down compared to Android, so you can't fiddle too much with it, like overclocking and stuff like that. However the OS is fully optimized for the hardware, so you don't really need to do anything in order to achieve smoothness and speed: the performance is optimal out of the box, unlike on some older Android devices. I had the GS2 as well before switching to WP, I haven't looked back since then. Trust me, you'll soon realize how great it is to simply USE your phone with no headaches.

Well there are a few cool things you can do with a custom ROM. For example you can sideload third party apps (without using the marketplace), remap your search key, use different search engines, wake the phone with any button, customize the ui and more. However keep in mind that no speed improvements or RAM tweaks whatever are available at the moment. Have look here if you wanna know more, this one of the ROM threads. I'd give it a try for sure but since I did a manual update a while ago I have the Nokia bootloader so I'm stuck here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1665651

There's plenty of forums courtesy of XDA for Android; there too are plenty of forums for Windows Phones and this is one of them. Some of us use both operating systems, I for one use both, I prefer WP though it does make us in a tiny minority but like old folks we are a loud bunch!
yea I was telling my friend earlier that stock vs stock vs stock I prefer win phone 8 > iPhone 7 beta > android 4.2.2.
its customization and open sourcing that makes tweakers flock to droid, and it is better if you like customizing for hours with rooting and ROMs etc. but win phone 8 is the most secure by far and a better stock os than android. it all comes down to personal preference. I like all 3 but I really wish there was more options with win phone.

Nokia 930 V SG Note 3

Im using the surface pro 3 and want a windows phone is the Nokia 930 better than the Samsung Note 3?
Thanks for all yah inputs.
Merry Xmas
You cant compare Windows Phone and Android devices... is totally different... Windows Phone OS is very stable and safe (no viruses or malware) but not have visual or any customization as Android OS... also for some Android users is very difficult to switch to WP if expected to be all the same as on android... for my PoV, WP is much better than android and i love it. if you not see how WP works, try see online demo http://try.nokia.com/#en-GB
This isn't a fair comparison. What it REALLY comes down to is the UI experience. Personally I like Android, and I own a Note 3. I like the customization and the UI of it. I’ve preferred, and will likely still prefer, Android as my mobile OS. Keep in mind that I root my phone and install most robust versions of the ROMs.
I’m not as familiar with the WP OS. I bought a 920 from eBay for fun and to give it a go. From what little I can tell there isn’t as large of an app selection but the WP base is growing with great phones being sold. The UI seems simple but not in a bad way. I’ve worked with a guy that preferred the WP OS over the Android but as I say it’s a personal choice.
Play with both phones and see which is best for you.
