Me and my friends spam each other occasionally, and she sent about 1,538 SMS messages to my phone at once. Basically the messages app is frozen, and I don't know what to do. I tried Handcent and Gopro SMS, and they were both unsuccessful. What should I do?

I went there, but all I can do is clear cache, but I see no way to format. I am thinking about formatting the whole phone.

Have you tried restarting your phone?
If you're rooted then you can use a file manager such as SolidExplorer to delete /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/mmssms.db, keep in mind that this will wipe all of your SMS and MMS messages. You can also download SMS Backup & Restore and select the Delete Messages option on the main screen.

Is there a way to delete all sms messages? I use Handcent but the batch operation hangs up. I have also tried to downlod apps from the market but they do not work well. I have over 38K messages.
Using stock messages apps, on messages list or thread list, press menu button, select mark several then mark all, it could be take several minutes (cause you have thousand messages). Then delete it.

It has been 3 hours since I started deleting.. but still the process is on.
There should be a shorter method to do this.. like clearing the cache or something?

Yeah but you should lost everything, contacts, apps, and your settings.
Do full wipe.
Or maybe you can wipe your messaging apk from titanium backup.
Hope this will help, but never try it before.
Let me know if it works mate.

I decided to go the long way
Hey when I receive an email with a phone number I usually click on it to bring me to the phone at which point I use the send text option. I do not see that option on the phone/contacts/dialpad screen of the Evo Lte. Am I missing something or is that option been disable with the dispute with Apple?
This is a result of Apple's overly broad patent. If you wish to get rid of it, and are rooted at least, head over to development and you'll find the forum to get rid of it.

Wiped dalvik cache and rebooted. Still no go.
The texting option is now an icon next to the phone number. i am not sure if this is what you are referrig to/missing.
This is what I have when I click on a phone number. I don't see an texting icon.
This is now what I get also. It worked for a little while now I can't get it to so it again.

I've just updated my Evo 3d to the gsm Official ICS update, but i'm experiencing problems
My Messages app won't load. When I click on it, it shows the recent messages screen but theres a notice saying "Please wait" and a loading symbol, and i'm not able to click on any of my messages or compose new ones
I've left it on this screen for half an hour but the "Please Wait" and the loading symbol doesn't go away. It's probably because I have lots of messages stored on the phone, but this didn't seem to be a problem before the update
I tried using the Messages widget, and that works fine, all the messages show up and I am able to click on individual conversations.
I'm just hoping for a solution to the problem because I don't want to have to go through the widget every time to access all of my messages and send new ones. I would appreciate any help :good:
Thank you
If you don't care about your messages just clear your messages data.

thanks for the reply.
I do care about my messages and would prefer not to delete them all, but I guess i could use an app to back them up. The problem is that the option to clear message data is within the message app itself, and since the message app won't load, I can't get to that option

Not completely true .
Yes try to back up your messages with an app . then go into settings.. apps... Select all. Then scroll down until you find messages and you can clear data from there.

Thankyou for the help iTzLOLtrain, i tried that method, although the 'clear data' option was greyed out and I was unable to press it. Instead I downloaded an app that can delete messages, and let it run overnight. Now everything seems to be working

Yea apns are all good idk whats going on :l
Boot into recovery and clear the dalvik cache, if that doesnt work then whipe and re-flash the rom.
Have you tried a different SMS app? If it works with other apps, then it's the messaging app acting up and not Android, and if it still doesn't work, it's probably a glitch somewhere and you can try clearing cache and dalvik like mistamikel says.
