[Q] 16GB or 32GB? - Nexus 10 General

Hey all,
Just a quick one, currently waiting for a eternally out of stock 32GB Nexus 10 in the UK, does anyone think the extra 16GB is worth the difference in price? I currently have an old laptop that stores all my media so there's no way i'd fit it all on the Nexus anyway. What do you guys think?
Cheers!

16GB was fine for me, IMO not worth the extra money for 16 more GB, you can always get a otg adapter if you run out of space

+1 i got an otg +2x 32 gb mini pendrive for 42€.

Do you find the OTG a bit awkward sticking out of the side of the tablet? I cant imagine what i'd fill the space with until i start using it.

I want to experiment with Ubuntu-touch and be able to at least emulate a dual-boot between the two OSes so I am holding out for a 32GB model. That is if they evey become available in Canada again.

I have the 32GB model, but I haven't come close to using even 16GB. With that said, it's comforting to know I have the space available should I want/need it. If you can afford the extra cost, and can wait out the availability of the device, I'd go with the 32GB.

I'm hoping to get at least 2 or 3 years of good use out of my N10, so I went with the 32GB. I'm already down to only 2-3 GB free on my 16GB Galaxy Nexus, so I could certainly see space being an issue down the road if I went with the 16GB tablet.

I have 32gb model and have just 9gb left, mostly games. I have all my movies and music on USB drives that I use with the otg cable.

it really just depends on how you use it. i have 100gb on dropbox plus a server and laptop so I went with a 16gb because an extra 100 bucks for 16gb of storage seems insane. i'll just save that extra 100 and put it on my next upgrade.

Ok, thanks all for your replies, as much as i am very keen to get hold of a Nexus 10 the wait for a 32GB one should be worth it.

Voted 32gb, because of the safety net of the space. Even the 16gb is probably more than enough, unless you store most your files on the device. I use plex so all movies/videos are on desktop and just stream. Besides apps, the only thing on mine is games for emulators. I bairly touched 5 gb if that of my 32gb

I thought the 16GB would be fine since I only use 7 or 8GB on my phone. But I use the tablet for gaming more more than the phone, and games have gotten quite large. Many are 1GB+ in size now, and the 16GB just doesnt cut it for me. I wish I had gone with the 32GB when I bought this. At least you can add space with an OTG cable, but it isnt as elegant as if the space was there in the first place.

16gb
I have 16 gb because I use Google services for things like music so I don't have to store it on my device, I only sync the playlist that I listen too off of google play music. Saves about 5gb of music files. 16gb+ not worth $100 imho.

I have a 32, and I'm frequently over 16 with media.

I just got my 32GB today and it already doesn't have much space once I put a couple movies, games, and music albums on it.

I would vote for 32GB. I am regretting getting the 16GB version. The OTG use is fine for movies, magazine etc. But you can't store games on SD cards or thumb drives. You can't compare 100$ for additional 16GB that's on board a device Vs something that hangs from the side of your N10. Never. Go for the 32GB anyday.

I have 7gb left on my 32gb one, but most of what I have on there is luxury I don't really need to keep.
I ordered a Patriot Node last week, that might be a solution to the eternal storage problems plaguing the Nexus devices the Wi-Fi on it is pretty weak, but it's good enough to listen to music or watch non-HD videos/read documents/stuff (worst case scenario, there's a usb cable).

On my gtab 8.9 with 16 gb I can't take nandroid backups due to lack of space so I would definitely recommend 32gb

I agree. I have 32gb and am very glad. I like to keep a stock nandroid and a nandroid of the prior version of whatever custom ROM I'm using so I can fall back if needed. That could already account for a few GB. I also back up apps with Titanium backup...another few hundred MB. If you use Drop box or other cloud services, you will have a local on-device copy as well. It's all too easy to use up the space, and very nice to have it available.
... beamed from my Nexus 10 to your planet

I've had both. First the 16gb which I purchased from the only place I could find it locally in SA. That fell and the screen was shattered. Managed to get the 32 gb from Amazon via MyUS.
My 32gb is definitely better than my 16gb. For some reason my 16gb could not detect my external 1TB Seagate drive via the OTG cable. My 32gb picks it up seamlessly. I don't know why; just happy that it does
I also use my tablet to grab stuff off newsgroups. The extra space is well worth the money.

16 or 32 gb

Other than size and price, is there any big difference in the two? Also, which would you suggest? Thanks for your input
Sent from my ADR6300 using Tapatalk
no as far as I'm concerned they are the exact same, other than hd capacity. As for size...its the exact same too. I am loving my 32 gb one. Its my first tablet but I have played around with other peoples ipads and playbooks to know what I lik. The laser eye remote is amazing for playing tricks on unsuspecting friends at their own homes by turning off they re tvs.
The 16GB is allready filled with around 8GB when you buy it. (And you can't remove it)
So you have 8GB free to store music, pics, movies, game-data,....
And that's just not enough for me. Kinda dissapointed in that.
I got the 32Gb and have since bought an extra 32Gb card for it.
With hindsight, though, I think the 16Gb would be enough, with the extra 32Gb card for around £22 (from 7-day shop on Amazon).
Worth investing in a 50Gb dropbox account for around £6 per month, so you can store music and pictures in the cloud, bringing them down when needed. Lots of options space-wise, really.
Using the 16 here and there's still more space than I need. Came with a 16 gig SD card and that's just sitting around doing nothing. This may interest some: I installed box.net on the tab as well and received a message congratulating me. Apparently my storage was upped to 50gig while I wasn't looking. Not sure what the criteria is but you might want to look into it if you're likely to need the free storage.

lack of micro sd really sucks since paying $50 for 8GB of extra space could get me a 64GB microsd...
I agree - plus a regular SD-slot would make it really useful for photographers and general data upload to the cloud. Oh well, I ponied up for the 16GB version anyway (actually two of them).

I'd party that extra 50 just to make it easier to load up apps and to have the extra storage for the so many things Android that still won't work properly with a SDHC card. Then still spend that $50 for a 64 GB SDXC card. But without it I doubt I'd buy either version of the tablet.

I thinking of using a micro usb to flash stick adapter to put my media content on for trips, the 16gb internal memory should hopefully be sufficient for a few apps and large games.

Google must have decided that cloud storage and streaming is the future or......., they are encouraging people to root there phones and use Wifi Tether:laugh:
8 & 16 would be great if it = exactly the amount of user accessable space available.
In reality we have 5.8xGB & 12.8xGB est storage.
This really hurts the gaming & app installs big-time. Music & Photos should be ok from the Cloud.
Wow....literally just was about to hit "Complete your purchase" when I actually started to do more research on it....
$230 (after tax S&H...) for an 8GB tablet w/ no MicroSDHC or MicroSDXC?? Definitely going to have to sleep on this one first.
But, my god, that thing is made by Asus, Nvidia Quad-Core, 4.1 Android Jelly Bean!
$230 is not bad....Somebody convince me to buy it!!
EDIT: But where oh where will I put my many episodes of Star Trek? MacGyver? Stargate SG-1? I can't access that content when I have no internet available at work....

Its a mental challenge really:
Just think, $230 total is just $20 shy of the 16GB at $250 but that in reality + shipping could be $280.
No sd card slot has prevented me from owning a nexus device.... That is a deal breaker for me! Once they get that, I'm onboard

amazon with their private marketplace and semi-forked os is damaging google sales.
this tablet its intended as a replacement for the kindle fire - if you were intrested in buying a kindle fire this is better in any possible way and cost the same.
if you wanted to buy a more generic tablet, this is expressly built so the other units remain actractive even if they cost more as google dont want to cannibalize its partners sales.
basically its a "**** you, amazon" gift from google.

Hear hear , I say, class 10 32gb Samsung micro sdhc is safe if I drop my phone in a toilet, if It gets to close to a high power magnet, its er....... I can't remember but the packaging made it out to be pretty much indestructible, and memory cards break on me all the time, all types and prices , and I gotta say its been awesome never a problem, so no micro sd, is a real let down, and I think I'm gonna swing towards the s3 and keep the EVO, as the missus is happy with her iPhone

When will these manufactures learn that expandable memory is a must? We don't always have access to WiFi to use the cloud. This greatly limits when and where we can use their products. Why do they seem hell bent on pushing the cloud on us. Yes its nice to have online storage but when your not near WiFi it makes it useless.

another thing is some apps and games take up alot of space... i was gonna download modern combat 3 on my touchpad, and it says you need over a GB of free space! eek!!! i didint even bother, because when I downloaded backstab, I had to delete all kinds of stuff

[Q] Anyone with a 16gb, that now wishes they had gotten the 32gb

How much space are most people using up with all their apps. Do you feel the 16gb is adequate, or are you wishing you had gotten the 32 gb.

the price difference between the 16 & 32gb will buy a 64gb sd card, then you will have 80gb...so yea the 16gbwill have more than enough storage capacity for me.
With an sd its more than enough.
16 gb is fine for me, still have 9gb free and have a 32gb from my epic, definitely don't have any need for additional storage and I'm an audio/video podcast nut.
perfectly fine with 16gb. I just need to get an external one. I dont like to have tons of apps anyways. But the nandroid backups do take up alot of space
16 GB is more than adequate. get a 32 GB MicroSD and you will be getting the same Disc space as the high spec iPhone 4S.
16GB is fine for me same amount of space I had with my S2 that being said I do have a 64GB card installed.
I got the 16 GB one went an bought a 32 GB SDHC Class 10 SD card...so I'm good. I like the external storage for safety reasons....if you nuke your phone, you won't loose your pics and stuff, but beware, even SD cards go bad. I had one go and lost everything on it (lucky I backed it up a few weeks before) I use google plus to backup all my pics and box.com to backup my music and files.
Sorry for adding more to your question but I felt it was relevent.
Nope... Picked up a 64gb class 10 card for essentially the same price it it takes for the 32gb internal (much better deal).

This. The 50 dollar difference gets you 16+64 vs just 32gb. Unless somehow you NEED that 96gb total instead of 80.
I am on AT&T so 16 had to be enough I bought a 64gig Class 10/UHS-1 sandisk mobile card, I can get my whole collection of music on there and some device backups and roms as well.
who knows what else we will be storing in the future? HD Video isn't small....
I probably would have done 16gb internal and 64gb card even if 32gb was available on AT&T.

I'm gonna be ordering the 32 GB and then getting either a 32GB or 64 GB sd card (anyone have recommendations on a good 64 GB one? class 10 of course). The only reason I'm shelling out the extra $50 for internal 16GB is apps. On my 32GB Tab (which has no sdcard slot) I use about 27 GB of stuff, and I don't keep much music or anything on the Tab, it's almost all (24 of 27 I believe offhand) apps. My current phone's 16 GB sdcard is almost always full (sometimes I flash by the seat of my pants w/o a nandroid because it won't fit... ), and I try to avoid the apps2sd stuff whenever possible for performance reasons, so I'm gonna max out the internal, since that can't be upgraded later. Who knows what size games will be here in another 6 months to a year On the G1 even the 4MB ish of Robo Defense was a commitment with limited size, I just want to future-proof as much as possible.
50gb dropbox+16gb internal+external....u need 32gb internal?
thanks for the useful info, looks like most people are satisfied with the 16GB model
I'm "satisfied" with the 16gb model, but honestly only bought it because I was too impatient to wait for the 32gb to come out. $50 more for double the internal space is not a big deal...I'm just really really impatient.
In any case, the 32gb class 10 micro SD card I am using should be plenty for the next year until I get another new phone.

16Gb or 32Gb? what will you get?

I deffinitely order this as soon as it comes available. The question is 16Gb or 32Gb. personally I think i will get the 16Gb model tho I know for a tablet, it's quite small. But 100$ more is a big factor here. Google has priced the 16Gb right, but the 32Gb is too expensive to my opinion.
well, google adds $50 for an additional 8gb across the nexus lineup, so it is pretty consistent.
I would go with 32GB. There is no microSD card slot and if games take more and more space nowadays - supporting 2560x1600 would raise their size even more. Unless you don't play on a tablet - then 16GB might be enough (consider though what you want to put on it - music, HD movies etc. all take space).

Aside from potentially selling more 32GB priced tablets, do you know any reason why they are starting to head away from SD mounted storage? I personally don't buy the "cloud" train of thought and I'm sure people want access to their own files. But is there any technical reasons that affect system performance? I've heard about decreased OS issues without having a mount, but not sure why they take away such a valued feature.
Was thinking about gambling on the 16GB for the sweet price but will most likely cave for the 32GB.
I prefer the 16gb one as i am sure that the price diff can easily get me an otg cable and a 500gb external harddisk...

Except for the Nexus 7. They have dumped the 8GB model. And the 32GB model is only $50 more than the 16GB model.
Charging $100 for 16GB more storage is very 2010. Seems unreasonable to still be charging such a premium these day. But everyone else is still doing it, so Google will too I guess.
I'd like 32GB, I usually run out of space on my 16GB tablets. But I can manage the space and get by. So that is what I'll get again.
Depends if I can find some sort of NFC SD device; if I can then definitely the 16gb; if I can't then probably ... The next asus transformer.
Yes extra $100 for extra 16 gb is big factor,
since i don't really play that much on a mobile device i'd go with 16gb. I use this thing at home so i can stream whatever the F. I want from my NAS. Even on my phone i don't even fill 6GB...

Google makes money with their digital content sale. THey want you to stream movies, music using their service (just like Amazon). So don't ever expect an SD card slot on a nexus device...
I haven't decided. $100 for 16Gb is a lot. If it were $50 I'd get the 32.

yes, that'd be awesome. What would piss me off is they probably release a 64Gb model later and replace the 16Gb with the 32Gb one... just like they did with the nexus 7.
For 100$ I can do lots of things: paying for its tax, shipping fee, accessories...
Already made the 16GB mistake with the Nexus 7 and it made a negative experience so I sold it. 32GB minimum while 64GB is preferred but disappointed that there's $100 premium going from 16 to 32GB versus $50 for Nexus 7.
Maybe whoever produces Google's flash gives them discounts on it after they've had X number of 16GB chips manufactured, making 32GB cheaper and 64GB more reasonable?
Or maybe it's just that Google builds up enough of a profit from the first batch and the customers bought into the ecosystem to sell the higher capacity ones at less profit. There has to be some business type reason.
Going to order the 32GB as with a few films you can quite easily fill 16GB
Games are getting bigger and bigger too so got to go for the 32 me thinks.
I'm buying the 32GB model as well. I never even got close to filling up 64GB on my iPad 3 (which I am selling now), but 16GB will probably not be enough for me as I like to copy movies to my device for viewing on the go.
I go for 32GB. My songs (14 GB) and apps (2-4 GBs) usually take up most of the space
I have a 16GB Nexus 7 though.....bigger is better
I have a 1TB portable hard drive so I am going for the 16 gig one. Movies I will either stream or throw on the hard drive, and I still have unlimited data on my phone so everywhere is wifi.
Depend on your need,in fact,16GB is enough

13.05 gb total space available. That is what mine shows. Not really bad at all, not like I thought it would be. I have couple play movie rentals downloaded, 112 apps installed as well as a few dozen songs on the nexus 10. Only 2.6gb used, still have 80 percent left (10+ gb) . Also ordered a micro OTG USB cable so I can use USB stick/sd card for extra storage (no need to root for photo, video or music streaming if you use nexus media importer)
Hope that helps,
Ed
Wow glad I got a 32gb.. I have 11gb left and for WHAT? No music yet, well other then the free google gives you. no movies..Apps and 2-3 games. Must me BIG games and APPS! hehe
Buy a 64 GB usbstick and everything is OK ;0))
I would not recommend getting 16gb. My note 10.1 is 16gb and I have a 64gb and its not enough space. I can't keep all my games saved on my tab at once. I keep all my media saved on my sd card and only save game files on my system.

Mine was a Christmas gift, so I can have nothing to complain about. If I had the choice, I would have got the 32gb as well.. But after filling my tab2-7 int space and a 32gb sd card, I don't think that would be enough space either. But besides the usb memory stick ad on (got my cable from Korea today, works great!!!) there is the option of cloud storage. One service giving you 50gb free now!
That's the one thing about the large nexus 10.....You will more than likely be using it around the house and a wifi signal. Plenty of room for movies and music now! We only need an app that will allow us to install and RUN apps from cloud services.
If you are going to allow multiple users on the n10,then you must get the larger one.... But that probably won't be enough if one of the users is a gamer (grin) just such a large price difference for 16gb....Although I did once pay that for 1mb on my first IBM XT 16mhz system... 1mb simm chip, not gb! (gotta love this tablet!)
