Hello fellow members of xda.
Today i've came across with the launching of Ubuntu Phone OS, which in my opinion will revolutionize the world of Smarth phones.
My question is, will Ubuntu Phone OS be available for Samsung Galaxy S2 ? Or will be there some compatibility issues?
Best regards,
Rui Duarte
It was just demoed and i believe that not even the sources are out, so it's hard to tell if it will run or not, but according to this an 1Ghz Cortex A9 cpu and 512mb of RAM is the minimum requeriment... so it might be possible...
in my opinion android and ios will having a hard time when its fully released
Will be released on 2014.who knows what goodies key lime pie will bring till then.i dont see it as a threat for android

It'll be released for Galaxy nexus b/w 8th to 12th January ^^
2014 is when it'll start shipping with phones as a standalone OS.

Watch "Ubuntu for phones - Industry proposition" on YouTube - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cpWHJDLsqTU
Watch from around ~3 when they introduce OS. It's frigging amazing, finally some innovation and competition to Android.

Where did you read this? I just read about the OS not when it's ported to android.
I've read that they will release Ubuntu full image in few days or week. Here it is;
Given that Ubuntu is open source, a full Ubuntu image that can run on a Galaxy Nexus will be available within a few days or weeks.
I'm not a big fan of Ubuntu OS, but in my opinion Android will not be overwhelmed by Ubuntu Phone. With that unity like menu on the left side it's smell like windows phone on Samsung Omnia )

It isn't exactly " ported to android" there will be official Ubuntu image for gnex.
http://vrge.co/Ub3aB7
I'm really excited about this, even considering getting a nexus.

Btw, I'm sure that it can be ported to our sgs2, because the first full image will be for galaxy nexus and it would be easy to port it, imo.

It isn't same as porting ROMs mate. And I don't know about details ATM, otherwise I'd have told exact answer.

You may be right, you are much better developer than me I'm sorry about that
So lets wait couple of days and see what this "Ubuntu image" looks like..
Btw, I'll be waiting for the exact answer from you!

I'm no developer mate, but have learnt a lot, got a lot of developer friends
Edit: Again, its open source os like android. We'll need sources to run it, reverse engineering worked for 4.2.1 but it is still broken. Porting that stuff to another os will be a nightmare.
Edit 2: I might be wrong and would love to be wrong

I need some developer friends, too  Btw, I thought that we can completely change our os from android to ubuntu, rather than porting it to another os.
I wish you are wrong mate

When you install a new OS on your PC, does your GPU work without drivers? GNex has omap which is open source. Any other phone with Qualcomm/Omap chip set can have it but not us.

"To make your life a little easier we have also made sure that we can use android kernels and android drivers for the ubuntu phone OS. So if your hardware works with android then it will also work with ubuntu."
ive came to the conclusion that i will not leave android... i currently have a galaxy nexus which is a gorgeous phone and i love it, i love the pure android experience and there's so many roms!!!!, and i love android 4.2.1 (now playing around with 4.2.2)
But my upgrade is now and i dont know what phone to get
Nexus 4? (not so different to the galaxy nexus in looks from the front)
wait for the S4 (im really impatient)
Sony Xperia Z?
HTC One X?
My question is which in your opinions is the best? and more customizable when it comes to roms?
and feels and looks great of course
Would really apreciate your help
I use my phone alot, and am always testing out new roms!
I think the S4 will be released next month or April at latest. I'd either get the N4 or the S4.

hi every one
since the GALAXY S4 released
I wonder if any developer can port full stock 4.2.2 LIKE FROM GALAXY S4
NOT 4.1.2 themed OR 4.2.2 cm10.1 moded with additional options that realy not found on GALAXY SV 4.2.2
anyway what can i do !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AM JUST WONDERING
In your dream
because the system dump that samsung s4 had been release only about the S voice, S translate, System wallpaper and ringtones
so just keep wondering or buy some new S4
Impossible to port the entire ROM since S2 doesn't support JB 4.2.2 and it is NO gonna get it officially.
Damnnnnnnn

Porting stock rom is possible but would be more appropriate wid s3 not s4..
Coz 4210 and 4412 are 95% identical (this phrase has been taken from a comment of sr.RD)
However that would require good knowlegde n skills.. (i have none)
This thread is no less retarded than when it was first posted. People really need to stop reviving crap like this :-/
Yeah !

Kitkat can run on 512MB RAM.
that's good news
Has anyone started working....
Nope, and it's unlikely the Streak will ever see KitKat.
Does Kitkat can run on 1GHz single core??? -__-
Kitkat has a multiplatform kernel so it can work with so many devices just needs the lib files to port. And it now also supports 64 bit arc. Devices. Long story short kitkat will work quite efficiant and smooth on every phone which has min 368MB Ram and 800 Mhz cpu power.

There needs to be really experienced devs owning this mobile. which is nearly impossible for this phone which only sells in india and indonesia.
In fact we are really lucky that we got cwm.
also we have a pretty stable cm 10.1 which is nearrly impossible for such an unpopular phone. ril thing is samsungs fault and the reason y even the experienced devs couldnt fix ril is samsung too.
From where I will get cm 10.1.... please provide me the link

Yes where is that stable stable cm10?
