Storage Issues. - HTC Droid DNA

I realized I was almost out of storage so I looked into my files but if you look at the pic I only have 3 or so gigs used but it says over all 8 gigs used out of 11.. What I am I missing? I know the OS takes up space but the is 11 to 16 gigs it takes up??

/data and /sdcard share the 11 GB on the phone, so I'd gues you have a lot of apps or some very large ones. :good:
EDIT - Before I get corrected, /data uses all the space, and /data/media gets fused to /storage/sdcard0, and THAT gets sym-linked to /sdcard.

I had the same thing happen to me. Found out that astro filemanagers cache was over 7 gigs. Cleared the app cache and instantly had my space back. Still don't understand how it happened but was easy enough to fix.

Go thru settings>storage, and run the cache/app cleaner. If you are still having the issue and you have deleted big apps that you don't use. Delete your titanium backup files. Only do a TB right before you flash a new rom. Also if you have multiple nandroid backups, those are about 1.3gb of data each. so do the same as TB. delete backups and only make a backup right before you are about to flash a rom. Takes a lil bit longer if you are a avid flasher, but saves space this way, and always ensures that you have a fresh backup to restore to.

So I went through and got rid of some and I am still well over 6 GB. The reason I am trying to clear space was for recovery so on to my next question when backing up through TWRP do I have to back up data or can I just back up my system

Get a usb-otg cable from amazon. Use it to plug in a thumb drive to your DNA. The newest versions of TWRP support usb-otg so you can backup or restore from a usb device. It saves you from taking up 2-3gb on your phone. Here is the cable I bought

Managing free space

I have around 3gb free of internal storage. How is everyone managing their storage? Are yall using any apps to delete cache files? Refer to the pic for what my storage looks like.

I never even worry about space. I have an 8gb sdcard and I out downloads on that but beyond that I just let the phone do its thing

I put everything I could on my external sdcard: Camera default directory, Titanium Backup, game data, and ubuntu image (complete linux installer).

Not many big apps installed eh?
Install a couple big games and watch internal storage go bye-bye. So much for letting the OS do its thing.
I use DirectoryBind to redirect big apps to my sdcard. App isn't perfect, but it works.

Actually I thought I had a decent amount of apps installed. I have 16 games but I dont play the big ones usually since I hate most on screen controls. Thanks for the app though.

Storage analyser or grid size free are both great Apps to see what is taking up your space.

Some larger games have the option within the game itself; Bard's Tale for example. The option was offered when downloading the 1.8 GB datafile. The game still partly installs to the internal sdcard.

Most don't have that option though.

How'd you get Miscellaneous files so low? I have system memory in miscellaneous files. That can't be moved can it?
Not sure, but it may be because I am on Sprint and have android 4.1.1. If you notice, my 16 GB internal memory is reported as 10.95 GB. The other screenshots from VZW report the full 16 GB.

[Q] Available storage inaccurate...

I have my Droid DNA 16gb.
It shows 11.44GB of total space. I'm assuming it's not counting what is taken by the OS.
It shows 4GB available.
It shows 680MB used for Apps and everything else combined.
So if 680MB is being used, where the heck did my other 6GB of storage go to?
Is there an app that can be more accurate than the built in storage app?

I thought that too, but I've used ASTRO File Viewer to dig through every folder I can think of, and they're all pretty much empty.

Never used it, just CWM. I just installed this rom (CM10.1) on my DNA, and did a factory reset before I did.
One thing I noticed though, is that even though my files are gone I could still see some of them when I ran DiskUsage. I deleted them, even though they showed as 0bytes.
Right now DiskUsage is showing that I have an 12GB storage card. 7GB is used for "System data" and 4GB is free.
I'm so confused. This is a 16GB phone, but none of the math is adding up.
any music? games that required further content download after downloading from the play store? other then that you should have something like 13 gbs free with cm10.1 installed well atleast i did.
Open adb shell. su. cd /data. find . -size +1000000

[Q] can´t install and update apps

Hello i´m from germany so my english isn´t so good and i hope you understand my problem. Since a few days i can´t update apps because i become a error report which says no more space but i have 2 GB internal memory free?. 2 or 3 days later i can´t install new apps too. I have the stock rom 4.2.2 with root, TWRP and Hacker Kernel. I hope you can help me.. I also tried to install a custom rom but i don´t find a rom that is better then stock and at custom rom my wifi can´t be enabled.
Help...
Nobody have an idea?
Google Play is only supposed to prevent you from downloading apps when you have 200MB of internal storage or fewer. However, I've seen this same problem at other random numbers like 400MB. Unfortunately, I've never seen the problem as high as 1.4 GB.
Although you aren't supposed to have this problem, you can definitely try freeing up space and seeing if the problem persists. If you have 3GB of free internal space and you still cannot download apps, there is a problem with Play. If the problem goes away, I would recommend buying an SD card where you can keep most of your data, and you will still be able to update your apps.

I have already a sd card with 64 gb and at the galaxy s4 you cant move apps to sd. I use folder mount for the data of big games and my navi. I already tried to unistall apps. Time by time a app will install or update and i dont know why..

In your screenshot, it looks like 4.7GB is being taken up by media. If that is your internal SD, try moving the media to your 64GB SD. See if updates work then.

The only way to solve the problem you are having would be to isolate it. If you clear up some memory and apps start updating, you know that your phone has a limit of 2GB. In that case, always keep over 2GB free and try to move more data to SD. (I still don't understand how Whatsapp takes so much memory) If apps don't update after you clear the space, you know that Google Play isn't working the way its supposed to, and should probably contact support on their end.
Sorry I wasn't of too much help for you. Good luck!

Use link2sd, setup correctly it gives you virtually unlimited app space.

Dna miscellaneous storage high

My miscellaneous data is at 7gb and I have about 2.5 gb available... Does this seem about right? I do use titanium backup ( so all apps plus data are backed up) and a stock rom saved also.
Should I even be concerned with available storage..

When you changed Android version your file location of all your storage changed. So now you have a copy of your entire storage in another location. I recommend deleting things you don't need or deleting the copy in a root file Explorer.

Update.... Google play music was taking up about 1gb of storage... So I'm happy with 3.5 gb available... Upgrading phone soon anyway

2.5 is about right with the backups and music on there. Download DiskUsage on the Play store. It really gives a good perspective of where your stuff is.
