S3 is rooted and it has CWM 6 recovery.
Today, I was trying to flash a custom rom (UltimaROM) but the installer crashed at the end, resulting in a soft brick (stuck boot logo forever).
I was told to follow the steps again and pray for a success. But somehow, the custom ROM .zip file from the S3's internal SD got deleted. So, I don't know how to put the custom rom back into the SD again. There's no USB storage in CWM 6, so I cannot transfer the zip file - unless I'm missing something else.
I don't have an external SD, either, but I do have a backup of my working ROM. However, my backup ROM isn't on the internal SD as well. All of the stuff are on my PC.
Is it possible to re-flash my backup ROM via Odin? If so, how?
If not, I'd re-flash my Stock ROM and start over again... but the problem is I don't know how to find a correct stock firmware for my S3. It's been almost 1 year since I rooted my S3. Samsung KIES doesn't even have the special information (sale code?) for my S3... unless I connect S3 to PC, but I get problems (Kies stuck on connecting)
Thanks in advance.
read the basics to find out how to flash a stock ROM.
or push a custom one with adb from recovery.
Use Ultima Rom again or any Custom ROM (or your backed up ROM ) and flash with Odin... Look for pre-rooted Stock if you want to stay Official
BUY SD card ffs so you won't have problems like this in future

Hmm, I can flash UltimaROM via Odin?
How? Odin won't let me select a .ZIP file to flash.
As for flashing a backed up ROM via ODIN..........a CWM backup is .ZIP (Image.zip) or system.ext4.tar? But if it's tar... there are two .TAR files in my backup ROM... doesn't Odin only use 1 file?
I seriously don't know this stuff.
Use Odin and flash pre-rooted Stock Rom from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30028854
After that simply copy your backed up Rom or Ultima to internal SD, reboot to recovery and restore/install it.
Get yourself a micro sd card fhs... cost nearly nothing ; D

So, installing one of these stock roms won't cause any extra problems? Doesn't installing a wrong stock rom make S3 unrecoverable?

Hi everyone,
I apologize in advance if a thread like this exists already, but I've been searching for a while now and can't find anything to answer my questions.
So, first of all, is there any way to fully format the memory on the phone without erasing required system files? I don't care about the ROM, but want to keep the boot loader(that's the thing that lets you boot into recovery/download mode, right?).
I basically want to erase any trace of anything on the phone except for the recovery mode options. From there, I would like to install a clean version of Android. Which brings me to my next question, which I have not found an answer to anywhere.
Is there a stable version of ICS for the Canadian I9100M? I realize that the M-version is the same as the regular I9100 version, but I'm not sure if there is something that would cause the OS to bug out. That beign said, would the modems which come pre-bundled with the European OS versions (which are the only ones out right now) work on the North American bands?
Lastly, is there any back-up software that would allow me to take an image of the drive to recover from at a later date? I.e. ICS doesn't work for me and I want to revert back to what I have now.
Thanks in advance.

first of all, do u have ur device rooted?? if so u must have cwmr. entering in cwmr (with ur phone off, press and keep pressing until galaxyy gt-I9100 logo appears, volume up+home button+ power button) and in there u r going to have an option to do a nandroid back up...that's the tool u r looking for, to make an image of ur phone exactly how it is now.
second, inm there u'll have an option (into mount and storage option) to format "/system", that's the option to eliminate any trace of ur actual rom.
at final, u can download any rom from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487 and flash it through odin.
modem can be flashed separetly, u can even use the same modem that u have now...so look for the file of ur actual modem, and after flashing rom, flash that modem or the one u wish
EDIT: DUNNO IF I9000 IS THE SAME AS I9000M, YOU SHOULD FIND OUT THAT FIRST THE ROMS, IN THAT THREAD ARE FOR I9000

If you meant I9100 and I9100M, they are AFAIK functionally the same phone. But flashing an I9100 firmware to an I9100M will result in the boot screen and About Phone to both read as I9100 afterwards, instead of I9100M.

Welll then change the "must" for a "should" just to be more specific........
and, yeah, i say i don't know if they are the same, and put it in red saying that he first should find out.... i just put a rom solution for a I9000, just in case he finds out that are the same.
all other steps are the same for both devices.....
Thanks for the replies so far. I do have CWM installed and I am rooted. I have also previously installed I9100 firmware from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278 with no problems. The Bell Canada version of Android is horribly behind. Was causing massive battery drain issues.
Anyway, I will try the system format stuff. Will this erase all folders, etc and leave the drive empty and clean?
I'm currently running Cyanogenmod 7.1, but it's causing some instability and freezes my phone from time to time. I want to reformat to get rid of any old system files that me be left over from my numerous experiments with ROMs.

from cwm you have to do wipe dalvik cache, cache partition and system / factory reset (if you want to clear all your information).
You have to do this when you move from a rom to another rom.
And the magic of xda is the variety of ROM's.
Personally i don't like ROOTBOX, i prefer CM9 or Paranaoid. You should try and make your choise. There are two list of ROM's:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1702166
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1529173
For dual boot flash SiyahKernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1680851
I use this to try rom's as secondary, and i always have my CM9 as primary.
Ok...so I think I may have gone a wee bit too quick.
I've downloaded Zip files of cMIUI and official MIUI from their website. I then proceeded to format the phone...and now I can get into CWM recovery & download modes, but Odin doesn't recognize the ZIP files.
Anyway for me to install these ROMs at this point? Response needed ASAP Please. >.<

I ended up restoring from CWMR back up. The ZIP files contain other files and folders, so I'm assuming it's one of those you have to copy onto the SD Card and flash with CWMR.
I'll try that when I get back to work on Monday as that's where all my files are.

Hi Guys,
I rooted my SGS3 and installed LCD Density Modder to change the LCD density. I selected density value as 220 and rebooted my phone. The phone went into a bootloop after which I did a factory reset. The phone could reboot into android but it always shown me an error that touchwiz has stopped. So I went into recovery mode and cleared - data, system, cache . To my horror, now the phone is not booting. It only shows the white samsung logo.I have tried doinf a factory reset but it does not help.
I can enter the download mode. Please suggest what should I do ?
Thanks!!

You removed your ROM. It has nothing to load. Pick a ROM, download and save it to your SD Card, then flash it via your custom recovery (or flash with ODIN if you don't have a custom recovery).
P.S. If it makes you feel any better, I did this the first time I rooted my T-Mobile myTouch way back when. It's a noob mistake, but fixable. Don't worry, that's why you've got us!

Thanks for the quick reply guys!
I have been flashing a lot on my previous I9000 . So I was very confident that I could handle this.
Can you please tell me how do i put a CWM flashable ROM on the internal SD card unless my phone is booted in android ? Because all the custom roms I find here are CWM flashable and not ODIN flashable.. I remeber way back Darky had cooked a base ROM for I9000 which was ODIN flashable. Do you have any idea about such a rom?
Also, the stock rom is a huge file and the server at androidfirmwares.net does not support resuming I have a poor bandwidth these days.. Can you direct me to a resumable link or a torrent link for the Stock 4.0.4 ICS for INDIA.
Will be a great help !!

Sad to say you're gonna need to use your computer brosef. Get a microSD card reader for your computer, download the ROM zip to it, then go into your CWM recovery and flash it. If you don't have a computer or a card reader you'll need to put your SIM and SD Card in another phone and download it that way, then put the SIM and SD Card back in your S3.
Go to sammobile dowbload stock rom and flash via odin.then root and then do what you wantits simple this way

Like JellyYogurt said we need more detail your post is confusing this is probably a easy fix and you need to read up more on how to flash roms.First of all there is nothing wrong with slimrom I have flashed it many times without any problems..."unzip files" why would you want to unzip files to flash a rom?
Rom's come in a couple of formats zip files which you flash with a custom recovery ( you do not unzip them) or .tar files which you flash with odin (these are normally stock roms).
Can you get into recovery? (If yes perform a factory reset and reboot ) see if that works,if not you mention you have a backup can't you put your backup on ext SD card with a card reader and restore from recovery or do you mean you delated it ?
If you just want to go back to stock touchwiz and not bother with custom roms again just download your phone version from sammobile and flash with odin. Also another misconception is that you said you rooted then tried to flash a rom why? You only need to root your phone if you are going to stay on stock rom and use root apps and not flash custom roms. The reason is 99% of custom roms come already rooted so you can skip rooting your phone yourself.
More detail is needed so people can answer you correctly

I flashed the rom using the instructions on slimroms.net. but i think i didnt 'wipe data and cache'. the unzip thing is an example of how unstable it is. I can go recovery. But my comp is broke so i didnt get ro go to sammobile for the files. I created alot of backups with titanium but it seems they are all deleted (didnt move to another device, live and learn). Also titanium only backups up system and user apps it is not a complete backup of your system for that you needed to do a nandroid backup with your recovery (if you don't know what that is there are some stickies threads explaining what it is) Good luck.

Okay. Got it. First I had to go to my slimkat settings and check root access etc, thats why nothing worked. then I kept trying to unzip the gapps folder, not knowing it had to be flashed also(stopped reading right before that in the instructions, oops). After i flashed the gapps i could get into playstore np and its running smooth. First rooting attempt alittle panicky but my s3 now has 11.01gbs of storage and all the apps i really need. Thank you both for the quick reply. Sorrying for noobing out back there. Im starting to understand alittle more. Im going to read on back-up/recovery and hopefully be rooting this Gflex on Tuesday.

hey you all i need a little help rooting my galaxy player 5.0. model YP-G70 firmware 2.3.5 kernel version [email protected] #2 build number GINGERBREAD.UEK18
i was gonna use the superoneclick program but it says "file download blocked." isn't shortfuse.org the site to get it from? or where do i get the program?
I had already installed Samsung Kies, but now i need the superoneclick program. I was trying to get version 2.3.3. so what i'm wondering is where and how do you get superoneclick???
I've done a lot of researching which way is the best to root it, and i think superoneclick looks best. please tell me different if i'm wrong ... so yeah... thanks in advance
Your right to try and use superoneclick as a rooting program. Try downloading the most updated version and scan on Norton for viruses. Then open the program, make sure you have USB debugging on and hit root. After that hit yes when you get prompted to test and unplug your device and reboot.

Antivirus saying the package is malicious is perfectly normal. The 2 root exploits used in SuperOneClick are already identified as Android-based trojans in all modern antivirus softwares. If you downloaded from a trusted site, DISABLE your antivirus software and start the rooting process. When you're done, don't forget to turn it back on.

Now that you are rooted it is time for some awesome custom ROMs. There is cm11 you could try by going into the development page and downloading it. But before you flash make sure you have a nandroid back up and you go in this order if you want to run cm11.
Gingerbread, ice cream sandwich, jelly bean, jelly bean 4.3, then cm11. Make sure your recovery is updated when flashing different rims or it might come out as a herring.
Also you could just go straight to KitKat. If you want.

I was reading some tutorials for installing CWM recovery. a lot of them say that you would have to flash a kernel with it built into it. and another one says to use rom manager app which I have but the app doesn't support a galaxy player 5.0. so i wanna install it but I don't know how. like there are so many tutorials. flashing a kernel is risky I heard. not sure how i should start

Go for the kernel route. Find a CWM'd kernel that supports your current version of stock ROM and flash that. ROM Manager performs badly even on supported devices so don't even think about it.
And... The risk of flashing a kernel/ROM is something you eventually have to get over if you want your device better

ok thanks!! I'll start lookin' for the right kernel if you have any recommendations just let me know =D
ok I downloaded a kernel (didn't flash it yet). I downloaded this kernel > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2318550 and i'm gonna download odin to flash it with but i don't think it's a .tar file so will odin work???? also i guess i'll just download the latest version of odin...?? it said that some versions aren't compatible with some devices.
EDIT it's a .zip file. i think you need cwm to flash it. please tell me if i'm wrong. but i don't have cwm. so i think i might have to choose another kernel ??
also will flashing that kernel erase my third-party apps or app data??
and when i get this kernel on, will I be able to run cm11 on here or will i have to get a different kernel to run on that??
also i think this vid might be a good one. but he never says that he does a nandroid backup or anything

Yeah this kernel is CWM only, so no go. As far as Odin compatibility goes, no, the latest version won't always work with anything. Use Odin 1.8x if you can (mine is 1.85 for my Player 4.0 and Captivate, should be the same for Galaxy S-family devices).
Kernels don't wipe any of your data, though flashing a wrong kernel which causes bootloop may do.
After flashing the corresponding kernel, get into CWM recovery and start flashing CM or the ROM you want as per the instructions given in the ROM's post. All AOSP-based ROMs run different (and incompatible) kernels than stock so don't worry about kernels once you're in.

so what kernel should i get? it has to be a Gingerbread one right? since i'm still on stock gingerbread rom. should I use Entropy's Daily Driver? that would be the only other one, right?
and once i get a jellybean or a kk rom wouldn't it be a good idea to get a better kernel?? like one made for a kk or jb? would it be faster? but then i would have to switch kernels if i would for any reason want to go back to stock gb rom??

I have a Player 4.0 instead of a 5.0 so unfortunately can't help you with finding the right kernel. Yes it's best for stock Gingerbread, but if you find Froyo ones, they can also be used. Do note that you can't boot into Gingerbread with a Froyo kernel, so use its CWM to flash whatever you want immediately afterwards.
I don't know of any JB/KK custom kernels, and since Player's single core CPU has its limitations, a custom kernel won't make it much better. At least on my IncS, even overclocking to 1.6GHz won't help with KK eating up my resources.
GB, JB, KK - kernels for different versions of Android are usually not cross-compatible, so you *must* switch kernel if you want to fall back to GB.

thank you very much for your help. i was able to flash a custom kernel and get cwm. thanks you helped a lot
now i got the rom i was gonna flash downloaded it and extracted it. and i shouldn't have extracted it. then i was trying to flash it and i discovered i messed up. so i pulled the sd card out (which i had a complete nandroid backup on.) [the real mistake] and decided to start over. like, put the zipped files on the sd card. so i put the zips (unextracted) onto my micro sd but it can't mount the sd. so i think i'm like screwed. please help me
oh and when i boot all i see is the samsung logo, then it goes straight to cwm recorvery. I can also get into download mode. so I can get into cwm but my recovery is on my micro sd and it can't mount it. (i did a nandroid backup but it doesn't benefit me now. i also have to backup on my pc, but my pc doesn't wanna recognize it) did i brick it??
what i did...went into cwm wipe data/factory reset and wiped it. next > mounts and storage and clicked format system, and formatted it. then last i wiped dalvik cache. then i went to flash the rom (CM9) and it didn't flash. (because i had extracted it on the pc. it no longer was a .zip) don't know what i was thinkin' but yeah...
as of now i'm gonna start looking for threads to fix it.
i don't think samsung kies is working right either. :/ http://i.imgur.com/WV0iBPk.jpg
please help me unbrick it or whatever i need to do. only made one small mistake and now all this... :'( if you know anything about how to fix it pls reply. i need all the help i can get. thanks ...

Easy, bro. Does your current CWM recovery have a "sideload" option? Look for that either in the main menu or in the "install zip from sdcard" section. If you have that, then you could try sideloading a ROM directly from your PC to your device and it will flash automatically. For more instructions, just Google "ADB sideload".
If that doesn't cut it... Grab Odin and a stock GB firmware (these should be floating around in Dev section), flash that by Odin, and your Player gets returned to GB stock condition, where you can start over.

no it doesn't have a sideload option anywhere. i have odin. and for the firmware, doesn't it have to be in the .tar form for odin to flash it?? i'll check that out. btw thanks !!
but the computer doesn't wanna recognize my device. so how can i flash anything??
EDIT do you think i could flash my nandroid backup through odin?? it has .tar files and one .md5 file, but 2 that aren't. i'll post a screen shot. but if i flash each of the .tar files and the .md5 file via odin do you think it would work? that file is only a .md5 though and not a .tar.md5 so idk

No, nandroid backups won't be recognized by Odin. Just try finding a stock firmware out there. If you want your data back from your nandroid backup, you can always restore everything to normal first, then restore that nandroid and do whatever you please.

You attempted to flash a ROM made for a different phone (d2att), never do that again unless you want a brick.

Yea, you can flash .zip versions of cwm through the recovery menu. You could also flash it through Odin if you can't find a flashable .zip of it, probably easier that way. Don't just flash any .zip of cwm you find through twrp, it has to be one made to be flashed.

You should just be able to download the recovery in this topic (.zip not tar.md5) and install it using twrp. Put the file on your external SD since you can't access your phone.

You know that the file that you have to put in odin has to be a ridiculous amount of mb or gb then other things because i made that mistake 2 lol.
You have to extract it when using your pc and stuff and sometimes you get others files like ones that arent even like 100 mb or whatever that can look like a rom.
Give me a full list of evrything you exactly do when flashing and wich file and name and how big the file is and also your model number... The s3 ATT right?
Can someone verify for me that att has an own bootloader and stuff and you can only like odin flash their stock roms right?
You can always use phillz touch recovery and download a custom rom like cyanogenmod for your phone! Then you can acces it... If you dont brick your phone.

Huh? What exactly did you do? If you flashed Philz correctly using TWRP then you should have his recovery on your phone.
I think he needs to report his post to get it moved to his section with people to help him with his exact model and the correct stickies to help him.
If he can't then someone may need to report it for him.
Either way here is some reading material I found after a quick search in your forum.

So you got Philz touch running? If so, then you should be able to flash hellfire with it (assuming that you definitely have the right rom for your phone model).

Try redownloading the rom maybe an bad download.
When it doesnt work then your phone just cant take it and try something else man.
And also ask the developer from the hellfire rom if your phone is compatible with the rom (sometimes you need to download some sort of kernel or whatever it needs)

Is this the first ROM you've tried to flash? What were you running before trying to flash hellfire?
To fix your situation should be fairly simple. 1.download a different ROM to an external SD card, I recommend slimkat because its pretty stable. They use a unified d2lte build for all d2 devices. Before you install the zip, wipe data/factory reset, manually format system, wipe cache partition and dalvik cache, install the ROM zip and gapps zip if required then reboot and profit.
