Unable to mount as media device - SnowJB v1.1 - AT&T LG Optimus G

I recently flashed to the SnowJB v1.1 rom and now whenever I attempt to connect via USB, it checks the drivers, then after it checks, it unmounts itself and never shows up in the system. I could not find any other individual who has encountered this and I am at a bit of a loss.

Are you selecting "Skip" when the pop up box on your phone notifies you that it's checking for drivers? If not, you should be.

I tried both ways. Both letting it run its course and clicking skip. It shows in Explorer for a brief second then disconnects.

Thanks for the help everyone. My problem is solved.

my lappie which is a
Windows Vista 32 bit
it is not detecting the APX mentioned in the thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=861950
Now I am fixed in a reboot loop and I have tried everything suggested in this thread
OK I know I had no business doing this because I dont know the D of developing....
but the TNT Lite worked so well and was so easy to install I got carried away by it and tried to install the amd to let my computer detect the gtab. this is where I got stuck!!
to start from the beginning
I installed TNT lite on my GTab and it worked really well, I could see Youtube videos and access the Android market
Then I thought I should maybe transfer a few files to the Gtab so I could view them, but when I tried to do that I found out it was another long process, Normally being a non developer I would have probably just tried to find out a non hacking method to do this like download it from gmail or something. Or just use an SD card
But it had been so easy to install the alternate ROM from instructions in this forum I thought maybe it wouldnt be a big issue..sad!!
It was!
Now my one day old GTab wont start up and if it does it just keeps displaying a weird kind of screen with squares on it which I am assuming is the reboot screen
And so I tried to use Nvflash to restore it like mentioned in the thread above but my lappie wont detect it at all..
So now I really need help before I attempt anything else on my own
I dont want to send my Tablet back and would appreciate any help from experienced developers like you guys...!
Please do help me and I promise never to attempt something like this again..!!
Thanks
please !!!! anyone!!!!!
First, I think you need to breathe. Patience is a virtue. *NOTHING* about being excited will help. So calm down first, then go.
Did you install the drivers listed on that page?
Here's a direct link:
http://www.myadventvega.co.uk/SystemUSB.zip
Getting them to install can be a bit tricky, though, since it's not an executable. Download it, unzip it, go into the Flash USB folder, go into the USB folder, right click on the nvidiausb.inf file, and select install. That *should* install the driver. However, it might not. If it doesn't, post back and say what happened.
And as far as transferring files - there's no need to hack to do that. Just connect via USB, pull down the USB attachment notification on your tablet, and say connect. Then drag and drop on the computer. Done.

Thanks, I think I did forget to breathe..
It says " the inf file you selected does not support this method of install"
Alright. Crap. I forgot that happened to me too when I had to do it.
I think I had to install it via using Device Manager. Here's how you can get to it in Vista (I'm about to sleep, so I'm saving typing time):
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Open-Device-Manager
Once you've got that open, go ahead and boot the tablet into APX mode, meaning that from a powered-off state, you'll hold down the power and volume - buttons simultaneously until your G-Tab comes up and the goes back to a black screen (words stolen from the original NVflash post).
Connect it to your computer (while Device Manager is opened). When you connect it, you should see a new device appear that is labeled Unknown Device. Right click on it, and select Properties. Click the Driver tab (may be different - I'm on 7, but I think it's the same). Click the Update Driver button. Choose the "browse my computer for driver software." Using the browse function, point it to the folder with the inf in it (%wherever_you_extracted_it%\System USB\Flash USB\USB). Click Next.
I think that's what I had to do on mine when I borked my tablet with an experimental build of Vegan Ginger. If the driver installs, that should allow you to then go on with the rest of the directions. If it doesn't, post more information. I can't promise I'll be on any time soon, but maybe someone else can help out if they're up.
ok it says at the end when I have pointed it at the driver file (NVidiaUsb.inf)
"The folder you specified doesnt contain a compatible software driver for your device. If the folder contains a driver make sure that it is designed to work with windows for 32 bit systems."
This is what happened last time also, and then the system says that I already have the most compatible driver for the system and puts me on "Microsoft WPD filesystem volume driver"
EDIT: I should mention that I also had a tough time deleting my NVidia driver, but as soon as it was deleted, it was automatically replaced by the "Microsoft WPD filesystem volume driver"
Not sure what to tell you. The INF clearly points to the x86 version, so it should install. Is there more than one unknown device in your device manager? If so, you might somehow have the wrong one, though the approach earlier should have made it easier to track the new one.
Sorry. You might want to try getting on IRC to see if other people have some bright ideas. An NVFlash does seem like what you need to do, though.
EDIT: I did some digging into the forums (you should probably continue that). Here's a thread all about these drivers.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1012009&highlight=NVFlash+USB+Driver+Solution
If those fail, there's another method that involves installing the entire SDK, which is linked on this thread (the second post about the MSI):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=882814
However, my impression is that that option might create more complexity than it's worth.
I haven't done anything but what I explained earlier (if I remember right - it's been a while), so I can't talk about any other approach. However, these will at least maybe make my failure into less of a dead end.
I ran into the exact same problem a few weeks ago after installing CM7...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=902860&highlight=usbdeview
I used a program called USBDEVIEW and just obliterated all the usb drivers (I guess the safe way is to remove any mention of Nvidia usb devices) and rebooted the computer. Let the system reinstall all the USB devices. Restarted the computer again. AND ONLY THEN did I plug in the gTablet. Once plugged in, the system automatically installed drivers and recognized the tablet, you may have to point to the inf file if it fails to install automatically.
USBDeview from CNet

Good luck!
Don't let this setback keep you from using great ROMS like VEGAn Tab Gingerbread RC1... once you've mastered the NVFlash process and CWM recovery install (I prefer the external CWM install) you are all set for other mishaps.

I tried to uninstall the nvidia drivers using USB deview, it asked me if I wanted to uninstall drivers I said yes but I can still see the drivers in the USB list
Is that ok?
You need to run USBDeview as an administrator. Right click on "USBDeview.exe" select "run as administrator" and then when you are asked to confirm, click "yes"
Only then when you "uninstall selected device" the device will disappear. Otherwise you are only in view mode.

OK I just figured that out and was coming to post that. Thanks for realising that is what I was doing..
I conneccted the tablet to my PC.but it still does not detect it
The only time my PC detected it was the first time when I pointed it to the nvflash folder. After that it has never detected it and I havent seen the yellow ! icon.
what am I doing wrong?
Firstly, powerdown the gTab.
Turn on power while holding "vol -" to enter into APX mode (you'll see the viewsonic birds then the screen will go blank)
On the bottom right corner of the Vista screen, click on the USB icon that says "safely remove hardware and eject media"
Look at the list the pops up, does one of the devices say APX?
no It only says safely remove mass storage device
oh wait
my tablet switched on to the reboot screen and didnt stay black
trying it again
it installed "NVIDIA boot recovery driver for mobile devices", is that correct?
This is where I get stuck, my device manager doesnt show the apx at all whatever I do, what am I doing wrong?
I think there was a way to overlook safety signatures somewhere but I couldnt get to do it,
Is there some way I can ask my computer to overlook the safety signatures?
EXCELLENT!!! Now you are ready for NVFlash instructions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=861950
BTW, you will not be able to see the device under windows explorer as in the normal way such as "D:" "E:" etc drive.
Once you get everything setup per the above instructions and run "nvflash_gtablet.bat" you will see the flashing process in the text box.
Just want to make sure...
Under Vista Device Manager
-- "universal serial bus controllers" you have "NVIDIA USB Boot-recovery driver for Mobile devices"

THANKS a lot, will update you as it goes on.
Yes, follow Roebeet's instructions and you should be set. Also play it safe and keep your gTab plugged in unless you are sure of the amount of battery life left.

[Q] OK, I have a real mess - Please Help!

I did an NVflash after struggling to load VEGaN 7 for a couple days figuring it was the partition issue that I have read about. Flash went off without a hitch - or so I thought.
I went to flash VEGaN 7 again, but my computer would not recognize connection via USB. Attempted to login to clockwork mod but instead I get message - "booting recovery image".
Thinking a factory reset might somehow free up my USB connection I did a factory reset - now I'm stuck in a bootloop.
So, to review--
I can't connect to PC via USB, Access CWM, or get past the bootloop.
BTW - I noticed while looking for options to connect to USB that it appeared my Internal and external SD cards switched locations after the NV flash. External, although not accessible was 12.9 gig and my internal showed slightly less than 1 gig.
Anyway, is there any hope for my G tab - I have never been so frustrated over such a simple process in my entire life.
sorry looked for a way to move this post to the correct location...

When you NVFlashed, did you use the version with or without CWM. If you did the version without CWM then that would explain no CWM.
When you say you can't connect to PC are you talking about APX mode (NVflash)?
Go here http://viewsonic-gtablet-for-dummies.webs.com/ and follow the instructions for CODE RED step by step. Make sure download everything via the links on the dummies site to make sure you get the right stuff.

No I used the version with CWM, which is why I was suprised to see the "booting recovery image" and then it just continued to boot. I tried both APX via USB and a typical USB connection after loading --where PC gave error "device not identified".

USB device not recognized -
Still having that problem with USB device not recognized.
However, I have gone to ...for dummies site and reflashed device using the "flash USB driver" to temorarily gain access with USB connection. With NVFlash I Am back to having clockworkMod and working GTab with original software 1.1
Again going to flash rom - but Upon connecting USB i get the message "USB device not recognized" - I have attmpted to mount USB through CWM, but still getting that same error.

If your tab boots, you don't have to use CWM/mount & storage to transfer your rom to the internal sd. Put your external in your PC, copy the rom to it, move back to the tab & copy to your internal. There are also other ways to transfer it but we can talk about that later if you like.
If that works you can still flash your rom & then we can work on getting the usb up.
So, the usb not recognized is when you try to connect after your tab is either all booted up or in CWM mount & storage (and not when you are in APX mode doing NVFlash)?
If you look in device manager what does it show?
Try connecting your tab to a differet PC & see it detects it correctly?
If it works on another PC, you may want to tryto use USBDview http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html to look at the USB dvices that are connected or have been connected to your PC. You can find the gTab devices in the list & then use it's command line options (see instructions included with it) to remove(uninstall) them from the PC. Then you can reconnect to see if it will detect & install the driver correctly.
Can't use external load on pc to transfer rom. No card access.
USB did work in apx mode following instructions in code red. I thought of usin another pc and duplicated the failed results there.
Device manager showed yellow exclamation mark and would'n't install any driver I pointed it to (both computers) Unknown USB device.
Btw I want to thank you for trying to help me out on this. You people who lend your knowledge are commendable.

OK, try this. We are going to use Mobisynapse to wirelessly transfer files to & from your PC to the tab.
Download mobisynapse from my dropbox http://dl.dropbox.com/u/36150173/Mobisynapse.exe & install on your PC.
From your gTab, download Mobisynapse system tool from my dropbox to your tab & install http://dl.dropbox.com/u/36150173/com.mobisystems.office_registered-1.apk.
Start the app on the tab, click More & select Connect to PC to switch it to ON.
Start the Mobisynapse on your PC, it shoud see your tab, once it sees it click connect.
From there, go to the Files icon & you should see an Explorer type screen. PC on the left, tablet on the right. You can transfer files in either direction. Transfer your Rom files or whatever you want.
Let me know when you have downloaded the apps from my dropbox so I can remove them.

I downloaded them and installed, on tab it shows up as officesuite. When I run it "more" is not an option. On pc it simply says (can not connect to android device) under "choose devices". I did turn on USB debugging on tab.

It's easier that way, that way you can easily differntiate it from other files/folders. If you create the folder, then put the zipped rom inside the folder.
I turned connect to pc on. Running mobisynapse on pc it sees the tab just fine. I click connect and it pulls up info about tab, BUT when I go to files tab --- right side of screen is greyed out. It won't transfer files.

lol, yeah 3rd from left...
It seems to connect just fine, but under the file tab I can only see files from the PC on the left - the right side doesn't show any files and all buttons are greyed out. Again, under the home tab I have access to the GTab just fine. I can see apps, contacts, etc. but under file tab - no files on right side and buttons are not accessable.
So do you see the left (PC side)? Is the right side populated at all & what is in the drop down folder box (should be /sdcard)!

[Q] Freezing Autostart on Connect to PC

Anyone know which app to freeze to prevent the Rezound from automatically triggering the prompt to load Verizon Media Manager on connect to PC?
There used to be a way to do it through a dial-in sequence on the Incredible; that doesn't work on the Rezound.
Doesn't pop up on mine. Are you talking about their website on your computer screen, or the app on your phone? In settings you can change how the phone reacts when connecting to your PC.
I know that. When I connect I get an immediate prompt to download Verizon's Media Manager software, and the web page pops up in a browser (or additional tab if the browser is already open). On the Incredible, there was an *.iso file in the system root that could be de-activated by dialing a sequence of numbers and getting a feature menu which would de-activate CD-ROM. That menu is missing from the Rezound, so something else is triggering the pop-up.
There might be an *.iso file somewhere in there, but I am hesitant to delete or write anything to the ROM. Last time I did that I had to do a factory reset. I'm hoping it's an apk that can be frozen by Titanium during temporary root.
you did check off to connect via "USB Debugging Mode" in settings right?...
i do it that way & when i connect to my PC the only thing it does will bring up the prompt on the phone itself asking if i want to do "charge only" or "hard drive".

Usually keep USB debugging ON, not off, but even setting it to off produces the prompt when I connect. It appears to "see" CD-ROM which would suggest that there *is* an *.iso file somewhere. Guess I'll have to go back into temporary root and see what's in there.

yeah when i go to 'windows explorer' after the phone's connected, it shows that 'CD-ROM', as well as both the drives from the phone itself & then the sd card.
oh wait... perhaps it's because i have "autorun" in windows disabled. anytime i pop in anything, nothing happens. i just go into explorer and manually open things. so my guess is that it's your PC's autorun feature.
i believe once you have the phone connected, go into windows explorer and right-click on the 'CD-ROM' listing, there should be an option somewhere to "autoplay/autorun" & you can disable it.
there's a way to disable autoplay/autorun completely in windows & there's more info on that here:

Hello and welcome to XDA Q&A section of the Forum.
When you connect your phone to your pc, do you get any message in the status bar like "USB used for charging"? If not, go into setting (while connected) and click storage and USB and select MTP.
Hope that helped and hit "thanks" if it did .
thank you for your reply
my problem is not that I cannot connect. I have all the settings correctly done (or so it seems) and I have selected MTP. the issue is that the question to authorize the connection will pop up every time.
the device does not remember the previous authorisations.
example, if i connect to my Linux, then run a virtualbox windows, I have to redirect the USB to the virtualbox, but because it does not remember the authorization, it will disconnect and ask again if I agree, then I will have to redirect to virtualbox as it is seen as a new connection everytime. this in circle
also, I connect and disconnect the device from the USb all the time, everytime, I have to re-authorize the connection, it is getting old
Hi, without root, there is currently no way to automatically authorize a device (kinda stupid really) however with root there are a few ways to do it.

Tell me more, every time I connect my phone I have to switch from charging to file transfer in cm13.

Cannot Transfer files to PC (LGE MTP Device): This device cannot start. (Code 10)

Device USB\VID_1004&PID_62CE&MI_00\6&8563cbe&1&0000 requires further installation.
Lg Drivers 4.2.0 Installed. Running Windows 10 x64.
Also the phone doesn't even recognize it's connected to a PC unless USB Debugging is turned on, i.e doesn't give options for transferring files , charging device, Transfer photos etc from the pull down menu.
When in usb debugging mode if i select Transfer Photos the PC recognizes it, but not if I select transfer files.

Hi
have you checked if the device is recognised in the device manager?
Especially after changing to file transfer?
If there is a error code in the device manager the driver cannot be installed.
First to check is c:\Windows\INF\setupapi.dev.log - here its explained what didnt worked.

Well I did get it working after reinstalling drivers, in MTP mode anyway.
However after installing the lg drivers and booting into download mode g5 shows as "unknown device" in device manager.
Think there's something wrong with phone, when I try installing a custom ROM instead of loading the default language initially it shows the last language I used, screen goes black when I make phone calls (all roms now, even after formatting data (instead of wipe)) and when I backup with TWRP, there's always a problem restoring the image: basically half the apps I had are gone upon first boot After restoring, a lot of apks won't install (says they're corrupt (they're not)), some play store apps won't install, lots of apps crash etc.
Need to restore to stock but since my device isn't even recognised under windows device manager there's no way to use uppercut/LGUP.
