Stock vs Rooted - HTC Droid DNA

Now I'm not your average user. I've only owned two android phones: the LG esteem and now the DNA. The Esteem was really a solid phone and the development team really allowed the phone to go above and beyond its limits. Though I loved my Esteem the DNA just blows it out the water in all aspects. I rooted my Esteem because it wasn't as good stock. A phone like this makes me wonder is it even necessary to root because it's already so fast and so smooth.
And that's pretty much my question. As I hold my DNA in my hand I'm wondering if I should go ahead and root or just keep it as stock. What do you guys think?
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using Tapatalk 2

I've been stuck on stock because I took the ota. But the stock Rom for me has been amazing I'm patiently waiting for the unlock. But it's great maybe one of the first phones I'm really content on stock. I've been keeping up with custom roms and some really still seem to have some issues and quirks like wireless charging issues and Bluetooth not working. Phones not going into deep sleep I don't have any of those issues.

Rooting the dna isn't really about getting a performance boost as it is about getting extra customization.

We should have root by default, the fact we have "hack" the software to get what should be allowed by default is bs

Giving root to everyone might not be optimal for average users that aren't tech savvy... however it really shouldn't be difficult to get root access...once a device is bought, the users should have the right to do what they want with it. Think about buying a laptop and not being able to put an OS you want on it...could we have a petition to force companies to let the device really be owned by the user after its been payed for?

Have you guys tried flashing this to remove OTA and continue on

Coming from a galaxy nexus I had to root so I could theme as much back to AOSP as possible...
I definitely didn't do it for performance reasons and I'm very happy I rooted.

That doesn't remove the ota, it removes the files on your phone that control the ota.
If you are not rooted and on the ota there is no way to root(for now) and no way to revert back to the older software version, period.

Don't think it would matter anyway since you can't flash without being rooted. Oh well, guess I'll just wait till there is a root for the new update. Hopefully some of these ROMs get ported over as well

Well, I'm stock and I've had the issue of mobile data not working. Oh, and let's not forget the terrible awake times that drain the battery. It seems unfair that these forums would only be for those who unlock their bootloaders and install custom roms. Maybe you're right though and maybe I'll just go elsewhere if I need help.
Why call AT&T for regards to an update anyway. You will have much better luck calling the manufacture. Sometimes you can get them to throw the carrier under the bus. Sometimes they say the update has already been submitted to the carrier for testing. Of course they could be lying. My point is, you won't get a right answer for AT&T but you may get a plausible answer from LG.

if you are getting it from online or any other way through the mail it will most likely have the pos ota that cant be rooted yet (i'm in the same boat and while the stock rom is pretty good the verizon and htc bloatware is annoying to say the least)
Most of the bloatware can be disabled on stock although it's not removing it you can prevent it from being seen and running in your phone.

[Q] 2.04 update on GSM

Hey, guys. I bought a Droid DNA to use on AT&T. Everything is working fine, but it came with the older software version (1.5) and I'm not planning to root, so I wanted to update it to 2.04.
The problem is, it's not an option. It seems like it will only let me update if I have a CDMA signal. Anyone know a way around this? I already took out my SIM card and set it to CDMA mode. That actually lights up the "check for updates" button, but it still doesn't find anything. There has to be a way to update this phone without Verizon service.
You could root then flash the ota

It probably had something to do with the fact that I specifically said "without rooting" and that was the immediate response...IDIOT.
Example:
Question: "Can anyone recommend an action movie that doesn't star Bruce Willis".
Answer: "I recommend Die Hard".
Duh?
It's not helpful to suggest the one thing that someone says they don't want to do. That's what I would classify as smartass. I was trying to see if anyone else knew of another method. The friend sim card came up as an option later. I suggest you check yourself.
For those crying "root" because the phone was on a software version that allows it, I flip my phones pretty quickly and I don't want to permanently unlock a phone that I will probably be selling or trading sometime in the near future.

Hello!
I am wanting to know what u think of this phone, also my incredible is getting a little slow and this one is said to have more ram and better CPU. Does its GPS work good I am finding my inc is not working right there, also will this be getting cm10.1 like my inc has? the only difference is the CPU stepping, a smidge bigger battery (which will last the same time for the bigger screen), a bigger screen.
Although the CPU is a S2 there really is no difference in the two. GPS does go out on some Thunderbolt's. CM10.1 is JB; I and a couple
more devs are working on it right now, though CM9 isn't even fully working. which is ICS. If you have S-OFF AND full root then you will
have great fun with it. The Thunderbolt won't disappoint... I have played with both and they are just as fast... I say go for it!
oh with dual 3G radios you cannot go wrong :b
Also what do u think about the rezound I can get one of those for under 130$ is it better ?

I say dont get the tb. Its old outdated and runs hot enough to keep your pocket warm on a cold day. If u look around a bit more a 100 bucks will take you a bit farther then the tb. even over-clocked and using it for constant radio (BT) streaming it never got warm on me.
I was running ICS Bliss on it... which isn't released yet but hey....
I had the bolt and it never ran hot unless I was charging it and running tethering at the same time. if the phone was running hot all the time you either had the governor set to performance or you had a bad battery. I have the rezound now and loads better over the bolt. so get that over the bolt you won't be sorry. the only thing the bolt had over the rezoind was it was so easy to unlock and get s off. even with the latest boot loader update the bolt got its still easier. with the resound to get s off you have to do the wire trick.
you can look on swappa for phones as many people buys them on there.

I had a thunderbolt before getting a S3 and there are times I miss the bolt. I had great luck with each ROM (SOAB, Thunder Shed, and Santod's ICS Eternity. Heck, I would have loved trying his new Bliss ROM. If you decide you want a bolt and I can figure out how to clear mine I can sell you it with an OEM and Rezound battery, a couple of cases (including a PowerSkin case) for $100. I have been hanging on to it in case a developer needed it, so no worries if you would prefer the Rezound.
