[Q] SGS2 recommendations & help - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys. I need some help from you all, if you got the time for it.
Last year I decided that I want to have my SGS2 to stock and no root. Back then I was still learning.
After I changed a few roms I kept the stock one and had a casual root on my phone. After the changes I made I ended up with a ROM in which I cant swipe from the last page to the first one I have to swipe back thru all the others. This isn't such a big problem for me but it still mathers and my battery life seems so be quite unstable. I even noticed that when playing a game my phones CPU starts to get really hot(a problem that before didnt occur). Even the games from Rovio dont work on this ROM.
So my request to you guys is if would be kind and link me up with the ROM i need and kernel. Here how my phone was before I set it to stock:
Phone status and information:
Model number: GT-i9100; Android 4.0.3; Baseband version i9100XXLPW; Kernel version 3.0.15 [email protected] #k3-20; Build number IML74K.XXLPW
If you could bring it back to "normal" that'd be great. Main point is the ROM to be nearly the same as the stock one but with that swipe from last to first page. And the rom to ne a [email protected]
Thanks in advance, for giving up your free time for my need!

Just install another launcher...

Donnie could you suggest a ROM good with the battery, stock look http://goo.gl/xgbJR and haves that option to show the battery %.
If you find such ROM link it to me so I may flash it with odin on my phone and then I will choose one of hardcores' speed mods. And that should make my phone look and be like before.

I'm on Neatrom too, and I also can recommend it as it is a great rom. Personally I'm on ICS (XWLPY), and you can install Aroma mods with the battery percentage. In combination with Speedmod it's great, but you can also try JB.

Sir, you can change wallpaper by long tapping on home sceen, a menu will pop up , select wallpapers or gallery based on where your desired wallpaper is. I didn't get the colour stuff? If you mean that you want to change the ROM's colour then you cannot do that through a wallpaer, you need to download a theme which has the desired colors and apply the theme via Theme Manager
And yes, you can also change the wallpaper via settings menu

Sir, please cool down, it's ok. We need to give time to new people/members to adapt to XDA. I am not going against you sir, you are elder to me so whatever you say is right. But, XDA is all about helping each other, if someone is in trouble and doesnt know how to go about, then we shouldnt mind
in my opinion. now is the best and setabil is "TheMyth ICS - Lite"
this one is great CRe.ActiveX RC1 Barebones Based on CM7.1 Grif_07 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1414779
Hi,
I tried almost all ROMs in the development pages but I like the best ICS final with SlainModFast v2.5 with the new kernel(blackhawk - ketut). I had no reboots, no freezes no problems. I also run the JuiceDefender on balanced and improves the battery life. And I like the ADW launcher that is included in the ROM.(tried GO, Launcher Pro and some others).
I am a big fan of Grif's CM7 and Ketut's oc kernel... those guys deserves monies!
need kernel with vpn support Android 2.3.5
Hey guys,
flashed today the ace to the Android 2.3.5 via odin.
have now these figures:
Android 2.3.5
Basisband S5830xwks2
Kernel [email protected]#1
gingerbread.xwks2
have read in this forum that per default in samsung's kernel there is no vpn support compiled in so that that i am not able to use vpnc to connect to company's vpn (cisco based).
maybe an option is to update to Android 2.3.6 stock rom, but i think same sh** no vpn support compiled in...
Need a 2.6.35.7 Kernel with additional vpn support nothing more like overclocking etc. Which kernel are you recommended and how do i update only the kernel via odin, too???
many thanks for your replies.

Sorry for my poorly english

Try to calibrate your battery by deleting batterystats via CWM or just dowload the app "BatteryCalibration" from PlayStore. I'm not using this ROM, but it seems like android 4 eats up more battery than Gingerbread.

You CAN'T use these 2 kernels, cuz they're made for CM7 ROMs, so they won't work in Stock ROMs. But you can use "BatteryExtender" by LibiSC, I'ver never tested it, but it seems like it's working great and has a great improvement in battery life.

The rom was based in ktm stock
Battery Extender is the default kernel on this rom
:S
I know that i cant use 2 kernel
I meant that if I can change it to blackhawk?
:silly:
Well it's in the kernel man. Update it to latest 1.5 version and it'll be solved though 1.5 version is non-oc.

If you want to stay on stock ROM, then have a look at my kernel/stock ROM test results => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26775950
About custom ROMs, you have to read a lot and test it yourself ... there are many with many differences.
Good luck !

From experience you actually get the best battery life from the stock kernels. The manufacturers take the battery life very seriously since its compared to others when the device is released, so they surely test it rigorously to get the best results.
If you are curious, I recommend SiyahKernel, it seems to be about the same as the stock kernels in terms of battery life, and you get all the capabilities of a custom kernel. It also supports dual booting, so you can try other ROMs and decide what you like before messing up your system. We can't decide for you what ROM you like
If I may suggest: I am a heavy user and my solution was to buy a Momax extra battery and external battery charger from them too (the generic ones on ebay suck), that way I don't care how much battery my phone takes, since I always have a full one to pop in. That way you can flash any kernel you like.

I somewhat agree with the above two posters with staying with the stock ROM however if you were in the same position as I and didn't like the stock ROM ICS upgrade at all then I'd try Cyanogenmod 9. It's stable and I've actually noticed I get better battery life out of it than I did the stock ROM.
Just make sure you get the exact ROM version for your phone model as you could do some damage if you choose the incorrect one.

[Q] Will stock android speed phone up?

Hi. I'm a bit new to this, and was wondering if a way to improve my ace performance, would a custom stock android based ROM improve the phone? As at the moment it is laggy and has loads of bloatware taking up the internal memory.
So will doing this make the phone less laggy and improve performance?
Cheers!
Yes it will increase the performance but depends on the ROM you're using.
After flashing a custom rom, you can apply additional tweaks to it. Which hence increase performance, smoothness, network speed etc ; depending on the tweaks.
Also with more performance, there is a price to pay! You will be facing alot of battery drianage. But that depends again on the tweaks you applied.
Most Custom Rom have inbuilt tweaks with them. That makes them special and are good.
To be honest, i think stock rom is the best except for the look though.

And it's a little bit immoral to compare, suggest or show preference towards certain ROMs
Not only that, but it's also against rules

I like stock custom roms the most. Alliance, biftor rom. I also like pacman, rootbox custom. For me biftor v11 at the min. Think I will stick with this for a while. And with apollo kernel as is a great kernel for battery life.
