Just a thought but you might hit up Team Unlimited on their IRC channel and see if they can be of any help. I know their site says their support of qhsusb_dload issues is limited to problems encountered while using their tools to S-off but they may be able to point you in the right direction, at least.
The advice is free....the bandwidth, not so much
Does it charge? If so, it's not bricked.
IRC says firmware problem (whatever that means).
wont light up or anything.
sent it to sprint, sending me a new phone (free) tuesday at the latest.

This time I have really f***ed up guys. I really think this time I have actually bricked my Thunderbolt. I was on Bamf Remix 1.63 I believe and everything was running great. I was obviously rooted also. I was bored and decided to flash Protekks Battery Sipper Kernel. Right after I flashed it, the phone would not boot. I pulled the battery and booted up again and it got stuck in a boot loop. So after a few tries I finally got it to boot into the bootloader. I got into recovery and tried to flash a backup and it rebooted in the middle of restoring it. I tried that a few more times. I then let the battery die. Then I charged it up a lot and tried to power it on and got nothing. The screen will not even turn on. When plugged into my computer it sometimes vibrates and my computer detects it and then my computer makes the sound like it was disconnected. I think it is still stuck in the boot loop with the screen off though. BTW the charging light does light up when plugged in. I tried the stock and extended battery to make sure it was not a battery problem. I finally called up Verizon and after I told them it would not turn on he said he is shipping me a free replacement. I told them that after a OTA update the phone would not boot. He warned me that if there is any evidence that the phone was rooted or hacked, I would be charged the retail price for the phone. That is really the only thing I am scared of. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! Sorry for the long post, I wanted to get in all the details that I could.
Thanks
Adam

Wtf? This isn't Samsung. OP do you bootloop in bootloader? I recommend you go to the irc and give them any info you can.. you will probably end up flashing a stock ruu through the bootloader but first go to irc.

Thanks for the quick reply! How would I get into download mode. And I was on froyo before.. Shouldn't I download a froyo based rom?
Yeah I did not think we have Odin for HTC phones, and I already have the stock zip file on my MicroSD card but my screen will not turn on at all. I can not get into anything. Any advice?

OK thanks for the replies. Do you think the Verizon warranty center people will actually go to the trouble of getting it to work and then charge me full retail for a new one if they see it is rooted. I already have the stock zip on the SD card so when it does boot up, it will return everything to stock. I have read online that some people have been charged retail because there phones have been rooted but most of them have gotten away with with it..

I think you're almost certainly fine. It's a lot of work and time for big red over one phone. Plus, your etf is less expensive than a replacement device
Sent from my Thunderbolt using XDA Premium App
thanks for the response man. etf= early termination fee? I might not have said in my original post but they are sending me a free replacement device. The rep on the phone specifically said that if they find my phone to be rooted or hacked, that I will be charged around 629$ for the refurb replacement. I really cannot afford that (
Call back and tell em you accidentally dropped it out of moving vehicle and that it was run over 5 times...and that it was raining outside. Then pay your deductible.

I got out of a bootloop on my friend's Insipre 4G (which is very similar to the TB) by mounting the microSD on my computer, and then putting a stock ROM on it. I had to rename the stock ROM PG98IMG (PG05IMG on Thunderbolt), and flash it through the bootloader, but it did work.
Thanks for the post man but the Thunderbolt does not show any signs of life at all besides the flashing orange LED at the top blinking and the computer detecting it on and off every 5 minutes. The stock zip is already on the SD card so when it finally boots up it will flash and hopefully Verizon won't charge me out the @ss for a replacement.

how long have you had your phone and what hardware revision was it? did you try to run the RUU yet?
i think some people just got a batch of faulty phones because this doesn't seem to affect many.
I highly doubt verizon is going to receive your broken phone and boot it up and it will magically work. The only way it will auto-update is if they boot it into HBOOT. If they somehow just power it on it won't automatically apply anything. Keep that in mind. But I really wouldn't worry too much about it. If they charge you call them and tell them wtf I wasn't rooted. I don't even know what that means lol.
I have had the phone since the very first days it was released. Another slight annoying thing I have had happening prior is the glue on the screen has not been holding it down very well and and I can easily get a nail under it. And it wont let me do anything. I have a Droid X as a backup for now but I miss my beast

that's what im starting to think as htc has since released a revision 2 thunderbolt. i know as i just bought mine a few weeks ago. im wondering if the faulty phones were version 1 phones and have since been fixed. i also do not experience the high battery drain most of you guys do either.
WTF, so about 2 hours ago my evo just crapped out. Its S-off running Flex360s 1.72 rom. I was at the store and pulled out my phone, I hit the power button and nothing would happen. When I got home I noticed its stuck at the splash screen with no backlight. Held the power button till it restarted and it would vibrate and bootloop till it eventually get stuck at the splash screen. The whole time the backlight being off. It can go to bootloader but its like frozen and even then the backlight is still off. Too bad I cant pull the battery, also it will not just turn off

You are not actually bricked since your device turns on and shows some responsiveness when doing so (i.e. bootloader) My phone is ACTUALLY BRICKED meaning it has no response of any type whatsoever. If you can successfully boot into bootloader then you'd want to select "fastboot" then run the Jewel RUU from your PC. You'll need all the necessary fastboot drivers installed beforehand.

bring it to best buy, you will get a loaner phone for 3 days and then get the new one. whats nice is there people at geek squad dont know how to check if the phone is even rooted, also you get the new one before the people get the broken one.
I flashed newest deck cm 11/24 build. And Komodo kernel rls 20. I was using it for an hour or two. And then it went into random reboots. Now the phone rebooted one last time and turned off. I think its bricked. I installed the same way as i always have. Didnt install the wrong rom or kernel. I cant get to boot loader or recovery. No charging light. Ive tried holding down the power button, power and volume down etc no luck.
Anyone have any other ideas?
And if it is bricked whats the best way to get it replaced? go through sprint or htc without the least amount of trouble. I do have the Total Equipment Protection from sprint
anyone?
It's possible your battery is borked, leave it on the charger overnight. I'd that doesn't work your best bet is telling insurion you lost it. Pay your deductible, and you get another evo. Keep your old one for parts.

even if it was rebooting it could have been the battery being messed up? Because the charge was full. It just seems really weird.
And should i even go to the store to replace it or get help, or will they just tell me to call or go online to file a claim.
Or just dont bother with going to the store and because i did root my phone and its unlocked etc, and with the insurance they dont care?
Yes, the battery can cause reboots. If you can't get into recovery. Try to run the latest ruu, if your phone won't even respond to that. File a claim, play dumb. I said to claim lost because it's easier than playing dumb lol

It's really hard to tell with that much information, especially since he can't turn the phone on to get more data, but if his bootloader flash got interrupted somehow he might have bricked the phone. This thread is specifically about how to "unbrick" after that happens and he should probably read at least the OP to see if that fits his situation.
One thing he can try that has worked for some is to charge it on the A/C adapter overnight and see if he can start the bootloader in the morning after removing/replacing the battery.

So last night, when going to charge my phone, I notice that turning the screen on wasn't bringing me to my lockscreen. Instead it was a black screen with a line in the middle. It looked like the screen off animation got stuck on the screen. So I rebooted it and it was fine.
Today, I wake up and it won't respond at all. Holding the power button does nothing, it doesn't look like it's charging either. I know that I have it set up to run lagfix at night, could that have been the cause of this? Is there any way to come back from a brick?

Well you're going to have to pay the $50 then. And yea its from the "lagfix". That "lagfix" is really just TRIM. It's disabled off CM10.2 currently for this exact reason. It's been having a grand ole time causing a brickfest.

You only pay the deductible if the phone is lost or stolen. For hardware failure, with TEP, there should be no charge for a replacement device.
Jtag might be another alternative, as well. Shoot XDA member Zarboz a PM for more info.

PM'd Zarboz. But is there any way for me to unbrick it myself? I'd really like to leave going to sprint or mailing my phone away as a last resort. I've found a few unbricking tutorials, but they say that they're only for bricks that occur when going S-Off. Would it be crazy to try one of those anyway?

It won't work. You're not the first person to have this type of brick. It occurs as a result of faulty hardware, which can only be replaced, or flashed directly with JTAG (and even then, you'd still have the same hardware, and be prone to the same issue again).
I guess you missed the part in the Lagfree app OP that mentions the "brick bug."

Bricked??
Yesterday I restored a backup that I've been running for mounths, restored fine and no issues. Today I got a text went to unlock the device, had snow like an old tv with no signal. I pressed home and got the lock screen but there was major screen tear and the device was very slow to respond. I managed to get to twrp recovery and there was also screen tear/snow and the middle 2/4 was not there and non responsive, so couldn't wipe, fix perms or restore any thing. Tried that a few times, now the only response I get is I hold the power button for 10-15 seconds, capasitive buttons flash, let go of button, half a second later there is a quick vibration and black screen. I can't get in to the bootloader or recovery. Am I hosed?? tia Also when I charge it the light doesn't go on

Looks like an issue with the screen. If you have TEP I'd take it to Sprint and let them look at it. Shouldn't cost you anything to get it replaced.

Wow, you guys were right, you do get a free replacement.
At first, I was set on just living with my mother's old SG4G, but I couldn't stand how outdated it was. The screen looked meh, and I couldn't even install Chrome on it. So I was ready to pay the $50 to replace it, went to sprint with my evolte, and the guy there said he could only service active phones. So he changed my active phone back to my evolte, and added insurance to it. So I walked in with a broken phone without insurance, and left with a new phone for free. I'd say that's a lucky day.
Thanks for your advice guys, you guys just got me a new phone for free.
