I cant seem to get wifi direct to work on my phone. My tab (a samsung galaxy tab 2 7") can find my phone on wifi direct, but cant make a proper connection. Also there is no option to send files via wifi direct in the share menu (there is an option in my tab). I tried several apps from the app store but none of them worked. One of them (I dont remember which) mentioned that it could be an issue with the wifi driver of the phone and updating to jellybean could solve the problem. Since I am not willing to install any custom ROMs and since there is no official jellybean update or even an official confirmation that there will be one, that is not an option, at least for the moment.
Was anyone else able to use wifi direct in the stock ROM? If so, how? Please help. Please do not reply that we can send files over wifi, that is not what I meant.
Wifi direct didn't work for me too.

Hi Everyone
How to send a file from prime by wifi direct to galaxy s2 or from s2 to prime?
Both devices recognized each other but when I want to share a file by ez file explorer or quickpic nothing hapends (s2 once again is searching devices but can't find it
I've read that the problem is ICS, it has API for wifi direct but no app for data sharing
Thx for answer
But on .21 I couldn't even find my galaxy s2 via Wifi direct. On .28 I found it and even I connectet this two devices.
On s2 (ICS) there is an optin in share settings (send via Wifi direct) but in Prime isn't.
Maybe this is a problem...
Really? I've been able to connect my devices but no option for file sharing, both on prime and GS2.Which rom are you running on galaxy? Where you have found this option?
Go to esfile explorer or quickpic...share option and there is option Wifi direct but when I push this it says - 0 devices. I press search for devices. It finds my Prime...cennecting but then nothing happends
I'm on stock ICS 4.0.3 XXLPQ
I've tried both with quickpic and es (and stock gallery, root explorer) but no option for wifi sharing..
I'm running cyanogen 9 05062012
Hi I can confirm that wifi direct does work since latest firmware but does not seem to be fully functional,as mentioned maybe requires a wifi share app.
Have tested with Prime and Galaxy S3 both stock. When i say work ,I can send from S3 to Prime no problem but can't send from Prime to S3 as no wifi direct share icon appears in any apps drop down share menu .Gallery ,quickpic etc same as yourself.
All i did was turn wifi direct on on both and scanned both devices fond each other then option to connect appeared on both devices. Tried from Prime first to send a pic from gallery but as stated no share appeared. So tried same from S3 worked a treat with pics and a 1080hd clip received on Prime.
I was thinking maybe on prime going though the my net app but haven't tested it yet to see if the options built into it.
Ive been working with the android development kit trying to get Wifi-Direct functionality on the prime. There is certainly more functionality in .28 than there was in .21, but there is still not a complete Wifi-Direct implementation stack.
There is a WifiDirectDemo app in the r14 and r15 ADK packages which hooks into the Wifi-Direct APIs to manage connections with peers, and send/receive fails. It works great on my GS3, I can connect to peers and send files, the TF201 will accept the connection, but cannot receive the files.
If I run the demo app on the TF201, it can list peers, but will not connect to them.
If I create a connection from the GS3 to the TF201, then run the WifiDirectDemo app on the TF201, it lists the established connection to the GS3, but will not let me send anything because it hangs on "Connecting to socket" or "Waiting for socket connection" or something along those lines.
This indicates to me that ASUS has not fully implemented the whole Wifi-Direct stack, only partially.
Hi,
Just a question that I can't find an answer to anywhere, does anyone else experience the following.
When I enable tethering or wireless hotspot the other device/s that connect get internet access, but my phone has no internet access itself, so I don't get email and can't use internet reliant apps at the same time. As soon as I enable tethering/wireless hotspot the phone has no internet access.
The main reason I ask this and don't think it is meant to happen is because a friend of mine has a Galaxy SII and he can use the internet on his device whilst other devices are tethered.
Does anyone else experience this, does anyone know of a solution if it is not support to do this.
Cheers
Jon
It works on my device. What rom are you using?
If you're using CM10 or a kang of CM10 tethering doesn't work buddy....

Imho
I have heard of T-mobile charging extras for thetering but your situation seems different. Hopefully someone will help you otherwise try searching "T-mobile thetering" or such on your device's forum and try to make an idea of what's going on. good luck.
edited...i didn't read "UK" and directed you to the US T-mobile forum....

Hi,
Probably this question was already asked, but I did a lot of searching and could not find a concrete answer.
When I had ICS ROM on my S2, Wi-Fi Direct was working fine and I was able to share files with other S2 phones running stock ICS. But after I flashed JB ROMs (first Jelly King AOKP and now Jelly Bam AOKP) the Wi-Fi Direct is disabled. I know it is present in options menu after I turn on WiFi. There seems to be a blank row which when clicked does nothing. (attached screenshot). Also the options Search for devices and Rename device are disabled and greyed out.
Is this a known issue in JB and there is no fix? Or are there any JB ROMS in which Wi-Fi Direct works.
Are there any workarounds? Please help!
Thanks!
I have noticed this too

Can someone pls help me out!
Thanks!
This is an issue with Galaxy S i9000. With CM9 / other ICS ROMs , there is a seperate WiFi Direct section which works, but in CM10 / other JB ROMs, the WiFi Direct screen is the same as in your Galaxy S 2
Wifi direct work fine on CM/AOKP, but only with this app here. For me, work fine on Galaxy s1 + Galaxy s2, both running Rom ICS AOKP M6.
Or, you can use this excellent app here, which is as wifi direct but without wifi direct.
If i helped, please press my thanks button.
You use AOSP/AOKP which I believe don't support the natively built in WiFi direct function. However, you can use apps for this: airdroid and WiFi explorer are just two great apps.

Hi.
Searched everywhere, couldn't find anything.
Maybe you Gurus here could help out.
How could I use the wi-fi direct functions on an aokp milestone1 rom?
Neither stream music, and movies to my TV, nor sending files via wi-fi direct. doesn't work for me.
...There's an wi-fi direct option in WLAN Settings. But doesn't show anything.
Thx for your help.

Hey guys I found this link and thought it may at least give you some closure(or hope) on the wifi direct issue:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1889145 (scroll down to Idan73's post)
I've been searching for a couple days myself but I guess it's just disabled currently in CM10 and AOKP roms. Wifi direct is an overlooked feature but I find it to be very useful; much better than bluetooth(like 1000x better). Hopefully it should be implemented soon after devs figure out how, though I won't hold my breath. I'm using JellyBam rom atm and it's the only thing missing in my opinion
Edit:
If you want a similar functioning app that is just as good as wifi direct(acts almost the exact same way), you could try this :https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.floriandraschbacher.fastfiletransfer&hl=en
The app uses WiFi Tethering to establish a connection between two devices without internet, so effectively it acts just like WiFi direct and is probably the best alternative we'll get. Works on older phones too such as the galaxy S and the receiving phone doesn't need the app installed to receive the file, which is a plus and makes it better than wifi direct in that regard. Gave it a 5 star rating on the play store in the hopes that app development is continued and the app is not abandoned. Just found out about it otherwise I would have linked it earlier (google searches save lives lol). Hope it's helpful to you guys.
Thanks for your words.
Tried out a lot of things.
But now I'm back on my own cooked deodexed stock rom

Hi people,
I recently upgraded my SXP from rooted ICS 6.1.1.B.1.75 to Pre-rooted JB 6.2.A.0.400 ( found thanks to this thread ).
Everything went well, and the new version seemed to work, until i realized that the Wifi Hotspot function isn't working anymore (i used it everyday on ICS).
Also, tethering via Bluetooth doesn't seem to work.
My SXP wifi network is seen and I can connect onto it, but then nothing happens and there's no way to use the phone's data connection from a remote device.
I installed the 'WiFi Tether' app from Google play to give it a try, and the same thing happens.
However, this app gives me more detail and i can see what steps precisely block the connection, here is a screen of the error log : http://i.imgur.com/5ZhAAoF.png
Hopefully this'll help.
Has anyone run into the same issue? Can anyone confirm that the Portable Hotspot function still works on JB for Xperia P ?
It'd be kind of a shame to have to roll-back to ICS because of this....
Many thanks in advance for your help!

I've recently rooted my xperia play and found my wi-fi hotspot doesn't work. I've downloaded wi-fi tether apps but it doesn't seem to be connecting to the internet, it reads my connection but no access to internet.
Has anyone found a solution to this?
Thanks in advance
