So I finally got my dinc 4g!! I'm reading through the threads and it looks as though the htcdev site has been shut down.
I wanted to root mainly to remap my soft keys. So my question is, can I use the toolkit to root and apply the mod or am I screwed til further notice??

There is no other known way to root the device at this time. I'm sure something will come over the next weeks to months but at the moment you are "screwed".
To save yourself from being criticized post any questions in the Q and A forum and not in the dev forum.
Thanks!! Ill make sure to post there in the future.

I'm not 100% sure as I haven't looked, but I think you can temp-root the phone, do some search on that.
Ill look around. The main thing I wanna do I use the soft key remap to get rid of the black menu bar at the bottom!!!

I tried a couple different methods and found that none of them worked, mainly because I couldn't get any permissions on /data

root access wont remain after a reboot....you still can freeze/unfreeze with tibu
Gotcha, so a temp root is like a tethered jailbreak on the iphone. It'll work until I need to reboot. If I temp root I'm assuming I can flash a ROM and the softkey remap??

well you cant flash it because temproot doesnt allow you to install a recovery (afaik)
you could conceivably push the files to /system/ while temprooted and then reboot to apply the changes...but i dont know if the changes stick (never actually temp rooted, but there is some wackiness)...maybe someone else can chime in

From my experience:
Temp root simply adds the su command to the /system partition and allows user-apps to call on it when needed. If you can flash a recovery image via a su terminal, then it would allow a recovery, but I think that is where different phones vary in their temp root capabilities.
You can put files on the /system partition, but replacing the entire partition over ADB would be quite a stretch.
Let me first say :glad to be back (3-4 years back had a nokia with symbian that with the help of this forum i did minor modifications to)on the forum and out of the clutches of apple(3-4 days ago traded iphone 4 32gb for LGOG)
Now first question: I've rooted my phone attempting to remove any and all bloatware, however I can't seem to remove it?
Second question: in regards to cases what's the differences between att and sprint LGOG's?
Third question: how do I sent picture messages? Seems like a dumb question but every time I try to do so the message says something like "picture too big ,compressing" now normally that's fine it compresses the picture I send and its good however when I get said message the text I had started to send to whomever is gone and I'm back at the message as if I never started it?
Fourth question: how do I send a multiple contact message?
Finally : since this was a multiple question post, I did search , did read, tried everything I could think of to avoid asking a repeated-a-million-times-question , sorry if I did and sorry if I put in wrong part of forum
Thank you sincerely
LGOG rookie

Nope, you have to pay for it in the app store.
Or you can search and take a look in the other section (like the development section). I could be wrong, I dunno.

install titanium backup ROOT , delete any apps you do not want, really I just deleted most of the at&t stuff or stuff that requires you to purchase other things. one app that is worth its money is root explorer, sounds like you are new to android, one helpful tip to you is when you do buy these things in the play store you will always have it as long as you remember your google account, get a new device bam, still have the apps you purchased.
Yes I'm extremely new to droid as a whole
Let alone rooting and other info
Been trying to avoid posting a millions questions that could be avoided with a couple searches, I'm coming from iphone .
Iphones are insanely simple compared to droid ,however with the right tweaks droid can prevail for sure.

I phones seem simple because they don't have any of the customizations that android does. So, I guess iPhone is simple and not in a good way.
Also, "droid" is more commonly used to refer to the phone model by Motorola. We generally use the term android when speaking of the OS in broader terms. But more commonly we use the specific term for the version of Android or ROM that we're speaking of at the moment, Jelly Bean, AOSP, stock, for example. You'll get the hang of it.

Download the free Freegee App from the play store.
Run the app. Backup EFS. Click unlock Bootloader.
Boot into Fast Boot, then CWM or TWRP (depending what recovery you chose when using Freegee)
Make a backup.
Reboot phone and get an app called Titanium Backup (paid version has more options)
Using Titanium Backup you can uninstall bloatware or freeze them if you have the paid version (this is easiest and safest I believe)
OR you can use Root Explorer or a similar root file manager to manually delete each apk
Be careful what you delete. There is a post here listing what apps can safely be removed without messing up your phone.
Read twice, click once. Good luck

I would also have to say to the new guys...dont get all wound up on installing a new rom, trust me I have upgraded lots of roms from backflip, atrix, htc inspire but all those needed it. I have to say the original rom that comes on these LG's is pretty good, unless it doesnt do what you need it to I wouldnt worry about a new rom. root it so you can delete some of the bloat.

If I unlocked my bootloader is that enough to get the updates direct from HTC? or do I need to get a unlock code from ATT? or would I have had to buy a unlocked one straight from HTC?
First post! Thanks for starting a stupid question thread!
@ the poster above me, from what I've read so far, any unlocking of the bootloader will disable the OTA HTC updates. But I might have misread, I'm just learning about all this too and have read way too many pages of posts already. I'm sure someone in the know will chime in to confirm.
Now, my turn! I Just switched from iPhone to the HTC one and have really started considering flashing cleanRom 2.5. I have a kindle fire that I managed to root and get jelly bean on, so I'm not a total noob, but I wanna ask a few noob questions. Here goes:
I have spent a long time getting my phone setup the way I like it and when I flash cleanrom, is there a way to carry over the apps and things I've installed? No biggie if not, but I've got some saved game data on here already and some other stuff I'd rather not lose if there was an easy way to save. And is everything working correctly in the cleanrom to where I can still make zoes and use the camera, gallery, etc?
Also, any tips for getting this thing rooted? I was planning on downloading that "noob-proof" toolkit and going from there. I've read about people getting freezes and install issues using twrp, which scares me a bit because I have no idea what that other thing is (starts with a c) that people are using. and I read something Scott said that you should never do a system wipe or you could lose your backup?? I know I used to wipe the system, cache, and something else when I rooted my kindle but I never tried to go back to stock or even look to see if I had a backup file somewhere. maybe if there's a step by step guide you could point me to that I might have missed?
Thanks for the help, I'm glad I joined the forum!

No, unlocking the bootloader won't allow that. If we get s-off then changing the cid and flashing a stock developer edition Rom with a relocked bootloader should allow that if one so desired.
---------- Post added at 01:31 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:17 AM ----------
There is no "easy" way perse' to back that stuff up and carry over. There is a way I saw sometime back to root without unlocking the bootloader. Theoretically one could do that and use titanium backup... But I don't really know if it will save your game progress... And you will have to offload your titanium backup data to a computer or something before unlocking the bootloader because it will erase everything. The thing about not wiping system came about because of all the problems people have been having with aroma freezing. Some people seem to have it worse then others but the idea is if aroma screws up over and over you still have an os to boot into. I personally (cross my fingers) have had little trouble with that (maybe 1 freeze or 2 then it runs through all the way). I'd suggest leaving the system folder alone until you know how your phone reacts to aroma installs.

Good to know, would it effect anything if i got a unlock code? Also if i were to reflash the 1.26 RUU could i then grab them using the update in the menu section that is not labled att update?

Not sure about the unlock code but I suspect it would only be a SIM unlock to use on other carriers. Not sure it changes the cid. The other software update your talking about won't grab firmware updates from HTC... There was a software update pushed through that recently for the HTC media thing I read it was so media sharing could be turned on without having mobile hotspot activated.

I am having some issues rooting my phone.
I unlocked my bootloader successfully on the HTCdev site
I created a folder on my desktop called android, the folder has the fastboot application and "twrp.img" file
i boot my phone into fastboot (? sorry 100% new to this not sure if i said that correctly)
connect usb cable
command prompt cd desktop\android
then ....android>fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
then it reads...
C:\Users\Owner\Desktop\ANDROID>fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
error: cannot load 'twrp.img': Unknown error
Im not sure what im doing wrong, its probably something very stupid. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Probably a bad download of twrp

Hello xda. I just got a Droid incredible 4g lte today and I am loving it so far and hoping to get more in depth with it. But the first thing I must ask is how can I make the apps in my phone go default to the SD card, I have a 32gb SD card. I installed modern combat 4 and then followed by Nova 3, my phone canceled the Nova 3 download because of space problems. So I'm just wanting to have the big apps go to my Android/obb folder on my SD card but they won't. I tryed using es file Explorer to move the mc4 files to SD card then play it. But once I started the game it wanted me to download it.. Is there any way to fix this or will I need a rooted phone and some kind of Rom? Thanks for any help. All will be thanked.

Wow. Patience is a virtue. Yes, you will need to be rooted. If you just got the phone yesterday, hopefully you are still on build 2.17.605.2 or earlier.
I suggest that you look at the Droid Incredible 4G LTE Resource Index in the General area. That will point you to rooting methods, and there is also a link to Jose's SD Card Swap Mod that does exactly what you are looking for.

Thank you so much. And I got this phone from a pawnshop lol. It is on the version you said above and hboot 1.15. This is probably the best phone I have ever used, I really like how it has the adreno 225! Can't wait to unlock this baby and get to flashing! The previous phone I had was the HTC evo 3d. So I have experience with HTC phones, but this droid looks like it will be abit of a challenge to s-off. Hopefully I can find a perfect rom that won't require it. I like to use Windows but I think the only methods avaliable to s-off only work with Linux, and I by no means have experience using Linux.

Root it now and get on a ROM that isn't subject to the OTA before the OTA finds its way into your phone before it's too late!
I do recommend s,-off, as it makes like much easier. Try making an Ububtu Live CD and play around with it to see if you can get comfortable with it before trying DirtyRacun. You can also look at face palm method.

If you root and stay "rooted stock", you'll get the OTA. No bueño.
The 2.1.1 release of ViperLTE also gets the Verizon OTA notice. No bueño. If like Sense-based ROMs, I highly recommend the latest ViperLTE version 2.2.0, as it has setting to turn off OTA checks. I have not received an OTA notification since installing 2.2.0 and ticking that setting. I was getting them on 2.1.1.
I would fully expect that CyanogenMod to not get an OTA notice, either. However, I cannot confirm.

I suggest poking around the development section here for various ROMs. Unfortunately, Verizion has (had?) no love for this phone, and they have been blocking bootloader unlocking via HTC. ...[long story and rant omitted]... As a result, there are not a lot of custom ROMs for this phone.

Wait so how can I unlock my bootloader if they are locking it? Unless it's because I am on hboot 1.15?

Only build version 2.17.605.2 appears unlockable... The original, "first shipped" build was not. First OTA (2.17.605.2) is unlockable. The latest build version appears (so far) to not be unlockable...

My build is exactly what you posted above . So let's just say I had a later version and I tried to unlock via HTC dev, it won't work?

Correct. DO NOT allow the latest OTA get installed on your phone or you may not be able to unlock the bootloader.

I certainly will not allow this phone to get updated. So here's another question, would you say this phone is good for gaming? I got it cause of the adreno 225, my previous evo 3d had the 220. I'm also hoping that if I find a kernel that supports overclocking it can help things out. I want to match this phone up to the HTC evo 4g lte, which also has the adreno 225, but a 1.5 GHz dual core rather than 1.2.

I can't really answer that, as I do not use my phone for games. However, Jose has created a few overclocked kernels, and they are generally stable. 1.5 for sure, 1.8 *may* work, too.

Can you send me a link for both. Will I be able to flash a kernel with s-on?

Here's the only link you need: Droid Incredible 4G LTE Resource Index
Everything you need is in there
Yes, you can flash a kernel if you are s-on, but it must be done via fastboot.
IMHO, s-off makes life sooo much easier.

When I said "must be done via fastboot" there, I meant that you must push the kernel via a fastboot command using the command line on your computer (e.g. CMD window) while the phone is in fastboot mode. This can be done in Windows.
IMHO= In My Humble Opinion
s-off is truly unlocking everything on your (HTC) phone...

I s-offed my HTC evo 3d. It was really easy to do lol, I did it with the jb wire trick. With the fastboot command you mean fastboot/flash.. Etc?
