Yeah, I see the video container, video bitrate, video codec, fps...
Strange, VLC says that the codecs are the same in both videos. Maybe it's all because MKV, and DX doesn't have HW decoding for it?

No it doesn't. It even plays worse than bsplayer or mxplayer.. At least I can see no artifacts with these two..
HD decoding isn't supported by hardware.. CPU software decoding might be enough if you've got an HD video with veeeery low bitrate but playback of normal tv and movie rips just isn't possible..

Sadly, there is no FM Radio, however, I cannot coment on the others because I have not checked them out.
FM RADIO: SW NO. HW maybe
I do not see an FM radio application already on the device so I'm not sure if it has the HW or not. I do remember previous devices having the HW but HTC not bundling the application.
1080p Playback: No
I've tried multiple files(all same format which was mp4) with multiple players and I have never been able to get 1080p playback to work smoothly. I've tried HW decoding and SW decoding with no success. I tried the same files on my viliv N5 which has HW decoding and they played back flawlessly.
720p Playback: Sorta, needs more testing.
It plays relatively smoothly but i've only tried 720p mkv files. I would say that frame drops are noticeable but not horrible. I don't have many 720p files that aren't mkvs so I will have to do some more testing.
Haptic feedback: Yes
I get haptic feedback on the capacitive buttons and the OSK. I'm not sure which tablets don't have this because my galaxy tab had it too.
Hope it helps.

Just want to chime in regarding video playback since I was able to do some testing on my friend's Flyer the day he got it.
1) 1080p h.264 MP4 file encoded to Blu-Ray spec (high profile Level 4.1, with 4 ref frames), bitrate around 5000kbps - does not play properly on the Flyer, but plays on the Galaxy Tab with no or very little frame drop.
2) 720p h.264 MKV file encoded to high profile Level 4.1 with 4 ref frames ~2000kbps with flac audio and subtitles - plays fine using moboplayer on the flyer (didn't notice any frame dropping) and also plays well on the Galaxy Tab.
I should try out a 720p with 8 ref frames and see what happens as that is the max you can do with high profile 4.1 h264 videos at that resolution. I'm not entirely sure on this, but I think as you have h264 encode video with more ref frames it takes more power to decode.

I believe it is better and not just due to software but hardware. These devices do their best video playback when using hardware acceleration. The 8255 chipset found on the flyer was never deisgned for 1080p playback

And, the nice thing is that Samsung got their Hummingbird SoC DivX HD certified which means it can play mkv files natively out of the box as long as they are encoded to within blu-ray spec (no higher than level 4.1 for 1080p video).
But, the Flyer is no slouch when it comes to 720p video and it looks great on the 7" display. You can always use Handbrake or DVDCatalyst to reconvert video unless your computer isn't powerful enough to do so.
The dual-core Snapdragon is able to do 1080p playback as vague as that sounds.
I recently aquired the Flyer and I'm really dissapointed with the playback functionality. All of the 720p-res videoclips I've tried are choppy as hell (using Mobo, since the stock player is crap). It doesn't even play some .avi-files! Do I need to tweak something?
Have you tried Real Player? I have more or less tried just about every player in the market and have found RP to be the best.
Better than dice player? I played a 1920x800 7mbps file on my sensation without any skips. It has a problem with mp4 but I think its because its using the default decoding method for that format. The file i played was an avi and an mkv both extremely smooth.
Thank's guys for your tips on video players! I'll try them out.

Dice player is awesome! Good tip! Well worth 3$ or so.
Hi folks, I have a problem with the Razr's video capabilities.
On the Galaxy SII I've used Dice Player to watch 1080p mkv video files but on the Razr Dice Player only shows a scrambled coloured picture. I got in contact with the developer and he said he failed to support the chipset.
Other players like MX Video only play in Software decoding mode which means it's far from fluid.
Do anyone know a possibility to have HW-acceleration for 1080p video files?
None yet that I know of.
Sent from my XT910 using XDA App
Did the developer tell you why he failed to support the chipset? I have the exact same problem you do with DICE too. In fact, on the SGS II, the stock player also plays mkv just fine.
Will hardware acceleration in ICS solve this problem?

This is the answer from the developer:
Hi,
I have tried to fix the issue, but I have failed to fix. Currently I can't support the MOTO devices with OMAP4 and you can only play with Software Player. I'll try to fix it, but I can't say when it is fixed.

On the SGSII I never had problems with 1080p mkv. Maybe it's a problematic file.
Actually it is. SGS II is the only Android device i know of that can play 1080p mkv without problems with even the stock player.
Of course, if you flash for example, Cyanogen 7.x over it, then the stock player is unable to do that. Only DICE can of course.
I figure it has to do with the way the player itself is programmed to support the chipset too and of course, the chipset's capabilities.
Lets hope the DICE developer gets it right for the Razr soon.

More about DICE here and it's limitations(or rather, those of some chipsets).
I got a reply. I told the dev that the OMAP 44XX chip in the Galaxy Nexus is supported so why can't this work. He said it's due to the lack thereof of hardware acceleration natively in Gingerbread.
Once the Razr gets ICS, he'll be able to get that to work too.
Vital player from the market should work no worries
MX player with sw audio decode
Software decoding of mkv = horrible video playback performance.
software for audio only , for some reason mkv dont have sound with hw decode
audio pass through
I want to connect RAZR to Audio-Video receiver with HDMI and have option in video player "audio pass through" to listen 5.1 audio channel in ac3 or dts format in video files.
Does anyone know video player with this option?

what video support is there with the latest version (3.5 alpha)?

The irony is that all the movies that these struggle with play beautifully on WebOS with Kalemsoft Media Player. Will they ever be able to port this over to Android?
For now, I guess i can reboot to webOS to watch a movie, but it is a pain since WebOS takes forever to boot up.
Ok, I finally found one player that plays most files pretty well. It is VLC player beta:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1517415
The trick is to change the aspect ratio to "Center" so that it doesn't have to resize. Works great with 720p but will make anything less like 480 smaller.
Otherwise, you will get pixelation.
Still don't understand how you guys get MX player to work great. I get video stutter like crazy with high profile 720p videos.

Hi
First I want to thank everyone here for this useful forum,
I want to play HD videos in really full screen mode (without black margins in the top and bottom).
I tried alot of video players and they can crop the video to fit the screen but in S/W mode and the videos are so creepy and too slow.
when I change the aspect ratio in H/W mode I can only starch the video but I cant crop the video to fit the screen (without change the aspect ratio) like in S/W mode.
The new version of MX video player has the option called "correct H/W aspect ratio" but it's not work in my phone.
Can anyone find the solution for this,
I have rooted xperia mini.
Thanks in advance...
Sorry for my bad English...

Will post more info when I try/find.

Thank you for your fast replay..
I mean HD (720p) in MP4 format
I know that xperia phones can play this format but when I play HD in 320x480 screen there is a big difference in aspect ratio so the video is too small and pixels appears in the video.
So I want to cut the video to play in whole screen and use all screen surface to make the videos looks a lot better.
I can do it with MX video player in S/W mode only not in H/W but the video looks too slow and without Bravia Engine enhancement.

yup. i have tested 3 bluray/1080p videos and it lags on any video player out there in the market. including mobo player.
It's the phone, that cannot play 1080p video.
RAM amount is too low, 512MB RAM, which only about 100-150 MB is free, depending on ROM and settings.
Maybe you have a slow sdcard. What class is it?

Actually first question was for Ahmed Abbass, i messed up the quotes
H.264 it's pretty heavy maybe xvid can do better with 1080p.
seriously why would you want to waych hd/bluray/1080p videos on a 3.2 inch screen.
why not view it on a pc/laptop/hdtv/ps3 instead?

720p movie ran completely without problems in S/W fast mode. I didn't have problems with aspect ratio, I was watching in a dark room.
1.1 GHz processor, minfree 100mb, minicmsandwich ROM.

S/W fast mode is worse than H/W in terms of quality and smoothness
It's even worse than normal S/W mode
Try to use H/W and watch the deference
Anyone can fix aspect ratio in H/W mode???
(I'm talking about normal 720p video not 1080p)

Play video in mxplayer and on the top change the video coding from s/w to h/w. Software coding don't work properly on this device

Nor hw or sw decoding will work properly for 720p, DesX is limited to 480p for video playback by default, if you had googled about it you would have found the answer.
Hw decoding won't work at all.
Sw decoding will do the job but you'll have lags and picture and sound will not be synhronised.

Ok, take a look at the resolution of the video you are playing, if it works perfectly it's not 720p, trust me.
If hardware decoding is able to play 720p then why it's not played with stock player? When you choose hw decoding in MX, Mobo or any other player it will use it if the phone itself is able to play it in that way, otherwise it will switch automatically to sw decoding.
Don't be stubborn and google it.
