[Q]Rooting Help! - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys, at first I am sorry for my english :silly:
The problem is that i want to root my S2 but there are too many guides and tutorials and I am really confused. It can be weird but I just want to root it for quite a short time like 10-15 mins (due to some game) and after this period just unroot it. I have been searching many forums for several hours but I could not find something that is easy and fits me. There were people with broken phones in every single rooting tutorial and I am little bit afraid of doing it. That is why i have posted here. So guys, I would like to ask you for your help. I would appreciate some easy guide with step by step tutorial or just a link that perfectly fits me. I do not need something special just quick access to root and then unrooting it as I said. Thanks a lot in advance and also, have a nice day! :victory:
Q: Will be there all my apps, messages, optioms etc. after the rooting?
About phone:
Andriod version: 4.0.4
Baseband version: I1900XXLQ6
Kernel version: 3.0.15-1118136
Build number: IMM76D.XWLPZ

This is the way to root your device without flashing. It also includes a method to unroot. VERY easy to follow.

Thank you! I just want to make sure - in this step "Choose CWM.zip and wait until CWM recovery appear." ---> Where can I get this zip file and what exact should I download?

Use "installer" file to root and "uninstaller" to unroot. Read the thread, it's very straight forward.

If you want only the root access use the above method. But since you are on 4.0.4 which has the brick bug, do not wipe anything in stock recovery or temp recovery.

[Q] Step by step root/Rom install guide for a Noob

Hi all,
I have spent the past two weeks rooting my phone, trying to install CM7 and then failing everytime with a permission verification error when flashing clockwork mod.
Could someone please give me a step by step guide to rooting and installing a decent rom on an CPW SGS2 with the following settings:
baseband: i9100xxke7
kernel: 2.6.35.7-i9100xwkf3
buildnumber: gingerbread.xwkf3
I would be eternally grateful as I scoured so many threads but to no avail.
Thanks in advance
I can say Chainfire's rooting process is the Simplest yet effective most out there, not interested in CM or whatever out there, so if you want CF guide, then read his thread,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399.
After rooting you will have Yellow triangle and to remove that you will need Samsung signed kernel and you will find it from here,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278.
The above two threads have more than enough information on rooting, so just go on.
Regards.
Thanks for the information - this is the root method that I did before which worked but I couldn't install CM7 - is it necessary to remove the yellow triangle ? Will this prevent me installing other ROMs?
I don't think so. Some users are using their phone with the YT without any problem afaIk.
I will give it a go and respond with my results. Cheers for the information.
I gave it a go and still ran into problems - had a look round and installed litening ROM. That took literally 5 minutes and didnt involve manual root permission. Definitely a android beginners friend. Fixed the volume problem aswell! happy days

Hey willcass, did you have to root your phone first than install the Litening Rom?
or did you just follow the step by step instructions?
Cause my phone is not rooted, and I'm wondering if I can just install the rom without having my SCS2 rooted.
Thx!

i suggest you take your time, read and understand before flashing.
If you are in a rush, you will make mistakes.
rooting or any other major changes requires reading and understanding before flashing.

[Q] How do I root my Samsung Galaxy S II running kernelversion XWKJ3?

Hello everybody,
I got myself my very first Android phone yesterday, and I'm really glad with all of it's features, but I'd like to root it, the problem is is that it's running on kernelversion XWKJ3 and I can't find any thread, post, video, etc about if it actually IS possible to root the phone on this kernel, because according to some videos I need a speciffic kernel to root the phone, and I just can't find any, and I'm out of ideas. I don't know if it doesn't matter what kernel you need, or anything, and I can't seem to find it either.
Thanks already for just taking your time to read this,
Mustaron

Everything you need to know about rooting is here.
Basically everything you need to do to get root, is to flash a kernel, that has root enabled
It's in the 7th post of this thread.

Read the 1st few for institutions.

Thanks for everything guys, it worked. My phone is now rooted and I now can install custom roms, cheers.

VZW S4 Root Help!!

Hello everybody! Just got a Galaxy S4 from Verizon with the evil 4.3 update & I want to root the heck out of it, but when I follow all the instructions to the letter, absolutely NOTHING works...no SuperSU, no terminal commands, nothing...this is very tedious and rage inducing.and I also would like to know if it's possible to downgrade back to 4.2. Really not liking 4.3...stupid Knox...
ANY help put into layman's terms would be greatly appreciated.

No, of course it's not possible to downgrade. Please learn what you're doing before you brick your phone.
Start here.
After that, post DETAILS about what you tried and why it didn't work. You didn't tell us what model phone you have, what build it's on, what you tried to use to root it, what you observed, etc. How is it possible for anyone to help you?
You are quite right. Forgive me, I was 80% asleep when I wrote that post...Sleep deprivation is truly a cruel mistress... I was, however, able to successfully root my VZW Galaxy S4 with the help of this extraordinarily helpful video via youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K5mCsDyW-TI
Now, I just need to find out which apps are bloatware & are safe to freeze.
Any of the Verizon apps, sdm.apk (so phone won't update), aether pal .apk it allows Verizon remote control of your phone, callid or w/e it's called, cityid anything you won't use.
Hit thanks if I helped you out. Doing a little bit of reading goes a long way. Sent via tapatalk.
Great! Thanks a heapload! I'll do a little perusing around to see what's safe to freeze. Thanks again!

Your best bet is to borrow a friend or family member's PC and get it over with, it'll probably take you 2 minutes to root it.
