How can I Turn off Display lights - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am running cm7 atm.
Htc liberty/Intruder
lcd hvga 3.2"
I want to be able to turn off the display lights.
Suppose,
I set Display/Screen timeout to 10 sec just before locking and blackness, the screen seems to "dim", it looks as if the lights in the back of the screen is turned off, but the screen is on/visible and it is very comfortable especially at night.
screen filter & cf lumen CAN NOT & DOES NOT do this(atleast I couldn't do it).
Is there any way to achieve tjis?
similar to editing some system file to turn off softkey button backlight?

[Q] Keep the Soft Buttons lit

I really wish the Vibrant had hard buttons like the G1. To make matters worse, the soft buttons turn off the backlight very quickly. In the dark, it's impossible to hit the right button. I have had the phone for 6 weeks now and I still don't hit the right button. I have looked all over to see if there was some setting that I can use to at least keep it lit while the phone is on. But I haven't found one. I saw someone mention that this is possible on another site. I'd love to know how if it really is possible.
I believe that I read somewhere that there isnt a way to keep softbutton backlight lit without someone making a custom kernel for it.

Yup. Goto settings > sound&display > keyboard timeout and change it to "Same as Screen timeout"
'tuna
Went there, there is no keyboard timeout selection.

Right, no keyboard timeout option.
I kinda have the OPPOSITE request. I'd like to keep the bottom buttons from lighting up at all. I use my phone a lot to read ebooks in the dark, with the screen set to black and the font set to a dim white, screen brightness all the way down. The soft buttons do not match screen brightness, so every time I scroll the page while reading, the four buttons at the bottom light back up and are blindingly bright! I HATE IT! If they weren't so bright it wouldn't be a problem, but I'd like to see a way to disable them completely so they never come on. I know where the buttons are (c'mon it's not that hard) and so I really don't need to be blinded like that.

[Q] Turning off backlight

Hello,
Is there any way to completely turn off backlight. In settings I've only option to decrease it to 10% while I want completely turn it off.
I'm also using Lumos app which is great but unfortunately I can't set level to 0 for backlight.
If anyone know how to do this I would be very grateful.
Try this:

No, this program doesn't do what I want.
I want to completely turn off backlight not to turn off a whole display.
I've finally found a PowerOptions but it still doesn't do what I want.
I just want no backlight. Even on the lowest level it's still bright. I just want to lcd work with no backlight. Is it even possible?

[Q] Way to turn off backlight for night reading?

Hey,
I've searched around, haven't found a very good answer for this. I like to read ebooks at night, but the backlight on the screen remains on even if brightness is dimmed as low as possible, and it's way too much for me to be able to fall asleep. On my old phone (windows mobile), I could disable the backlight completely. I did find the setting where the backlight turns off after X seconds, but I can't find a way to manually tell the phone to always keep the backlight off.
Anyone know of an app or setting I can use to do this?
Thanks!

Use the "Screen Filter" app from the market or google play store whichever version you have. It is just what you are looking for I use it all the time.
Tried out the screen filter app last night - it's better than nothing, but it seems to work by adjusting the color temperature of the screen, so the backlight remains on. (I can tell because the 30 second backlight turn off with no activity still happens). Thanks for the suggestion. Any other ideas?
Since our screen is led there technically is no backlight I believe. So color tuning is the closest thing to dimming it. I like voodoo filter a bit more, doesn't distort colors as much to me.

Settings > Display > Sleep (Mine is set to 30 seconds). Before it goes to full-on sleep, you can clearly see that the backlight turns off for a few seconds, but the LEDs remain on.
Yea screen filter app is your best bet. Works well for reading/saving battery at night in emergency situation.

Screen filter app is going to be your best option. The samsung Vibrant has an OLED screen so it actually has no back light. The pixels display the color and produce the light.

[Q] Amoled clock when screen is turned off?

I've got a Nexus S phone with an amoled screen and I was wondering, is it possible to make it so that when the screen is turned off, a clock appears on the screen?
I remember some nokia phone that also had an amoled screen and that had a neat feature; whenever the screen was turned off, there was an always-on clock that'd show up, and since the clock was small and the rest of the screen stayed black, it didn't drain the battery.
I mean, that'd be a pretty cool thing to have on amoled android phones, no?

did you try ?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.saulius.mockus.off
looks like this app does what you want
That's pretty neat but all it does is prevent the lockscreen from showing up and everything else works, touchscreen and capacitive buttons included :c I was more looking for a clock that would show up after the screen completely turned off and where neither the touchscreen or capacitive buttons would work
you looking for something to display at all times ?

this app allows to set triggers with different light levels
means you can set your phone to dim level near 0 or 0 itself and set trigger when you lock screen(any lockscreen (with clock)) it will start its work and keep device screen "on" but not off
btw you will never get deep sleep if this is on

Screen flicker when waking phone

I've notice my screen flicker when waking my phone. It only does it when ambient display is set to always on. I've been able to reproduce it by unlocking the phone then pressing the power button to turn the screen off. As soon as the ambient display comes on press the power button again and the screen flickers just before it comes on.
Has anyone else got this problem?

I have it but not as bad. For me its like very thin white almost like static lines once AOD is enabled and I turn on the phone either by the power button or the fingerprint. Once I turn off the AOD then it all goes away. It is something with the AOD but I am sure Google will say it is a feature and not a bug. Thats if they even acknowledge it.
