I have been working to restore a US GP-70 to stock using info from multiple sources.
I think I'm pretty much there. But can someone with a stock US Player 5.0 tell me if they have the app My Files?
Also does it have Auto Brightness under settings/Display/Brightness?
If your looking to restore, try flashing the system dump of the device found here: (Refer to this threat by clicking here!)
I'm already restored. I jus wanted to know about My Files and. Auto Brightness.

2. Nothing that says auto brightness, did you mean power saving mode?
The device is sold now but when you go to change brightness there was no check box for auto brightness like on all my other android devices. That's what I was asking about.

Well, I tried taking pictures with flash and nothing.
Hmm. Phone charged? There is no disabled hidden option somewhere? Well I am sure you already looked into these easy things, you are a senior member here
Hopefully some one with an SGS2 in hand can help you. It would suck to have to send it back to UK. I suggest you contact the seller soon, to get whatever authorization for return they require, before it is too late. You can meanwhile keep looking into the issue.
I've tried mine and 'Auto Flash' does not appear to be working - when the flash is set to 'On' it works fine on mine??
Anyone else apart from the two of us with this issue?

With auto flash the device only uses flash when it thinks it needs it....
Guess you figgered that out yourself also
Download a torch app from the market and try it to see if your led is ok, if so it must be a software problem.

Ok, you didn't mention it. I thought you did, but can't be sure here on the forum (not personal).
Must be some sensor failure i think.
Best still to check the obvious i guess ;-)

I guess I will have to return it for an exchange. Man, that sucks tail!!! They're currently in back order.
Just downloaded the Vignette camera app and Auto Flash works.fine so its not the sensor.
Wonder if there's a bug in the standard camera app?

Just tried that. No luck. This is very frustrating. I may try flashing one of those firmwares from samfirmware.com
get the free tesla light app from the market (the icon looks like an energy saving light bulb)
It should work fully and instantly
Tesla won't work either. I wonder if it is hardware or software related problem. Is there a link for an unlocked SGS 2 stock ROM version to download?

I recently purchased this phone and I am moving from a Nexus S, which had auto brightness however I can't seem to find it in the options of the Xperia, I did remove a few apps when I got it so I just wondered if anyone could confirm if the phone has the feature or not?
Thanks
Yes it has, but you cant confiqure this by your self without root and some mods.

Just tested the auto brightness in bright sunlight. It is working fine. Put my hand over the sensor and the screen got darker. Removed it an the screen got brighter again.
The brightness changes are very slow though. It takes the phone a few seconds to adjust. Which actually is pretty nice since you don't get abrupt changes.

I can't help you on that specific issue, but I may be able to offer a work around. I've had trouble with the light levels on my SGS3 and using Lux has completely resolved it. Not only does it have pretty good automatic settings, but it allows you to assign specific light levels based on the ambient lighting level.
There's an app called display brightness that also gives you that option with a slider you could put anywhere you want
Thanks I will try each and see which I like.

Hi after I have installed several apps , played with the input and phone languages, installed a new keyboard, and ultimatelly received this "unfortunately the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped" error the effects when I click on an icon on the screen are gone, the wavy effect is just not there and I have searched the whole phone for solution.
R: [Q] No effects when clicking on a desktop icon
The several apps right there might be a problem...or the rom is buggy (many are).
So tell us what rom it is, what android v, what apps youve installed that required root access.and if youve modded.any futher the rom or enabled mods already within the rom.

The rom is the standard one that I reckon comes with the phone.
I haven't had modified anything apart from installing apps and updates.
The phone is not rooted in any way. Nor have I modded or inserted into the rom.
I have updated to jelly beans. And the latest applications I have installed are koffice, swift key, poker stars, and I am quite sure I have been changing settings but nothing visual.

Factory reset really seems best.
Just make a backup of your apps (use titanium backup) and then restore them

that's interesting, because as far as I know, the ripple effect on the desktop (not the lockscreen) is not included in the stock ROM. are you sure you're not talking about the lock screen? you can enable the ripple effect by going to Settings - lock screen
Yeh I am sure. I'm sure that it was there for some time after I have updated the os. Then again I have installed a great deal of software which I think had made my wavy effect disappear?!
And can I do a backup of the apps with no root access I don't think it's a good idea to play an expert and damage the phone beyond repair. Thanks!

Aye, what do I have to do? If you just give me a link to the most current method used, please.
The phone is gt-i9300 international. Thanks!
read the basics
I realise that. But there's a lot of people who suggested all sorts of different ways doing the same thing. All in all if you flash the rom solely don't it enables root privileges in a more effective fashion..? Thanks!
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
R: [Q] No effects when clicking on a desktop icon
The most effective fashion is the most complete one, not how you do it.
If youre speaking of flashing through odin modified parts of the rom so you can gain root access..then yes thats what i did (just look it up on youtube, make sure you write galaxy s3 international (if international version) and android version of your rom).
If youre speaking of flashing a custom rom which comes with root access already unlocked, you need to have root for that.
Its easy you can find it on google or youtube. Best method for now (or perfectly working one used by the most people) is flashing some stuff through a programm for pc (or mac i think, but im not sure) called odin. Then i advise (once you have root) you boot into the phone and install from the play store rom manager. Thru this app you may install a new recovery (basically safe-partition of disc, think of it as a bios or firmware for a pc. What u need it for is to save ur ass if u f***k up your phone, or to make COMPLETE backup images of your device so that you may restore them later on. It can also be used to flash other recoveries and therefore replace itself, or flash other roms or kernels. Its a MUST HAVE for anybody with root)

*** THIS IS FOR THE CAP BUTTONS - Menu - Home - Back - Search - not for nav bar ***
since the new cm rebase kernel was pushed some things have changed.
my old enable/disable no longer works on the new rebase so here is the new zips
should work on all cm/aosp based 4.2.2 and 4.3 roms
disable: http://www.blownco.com/index.php/doc_download/13402-disable-capacitive-buttons-new-jd81
enable: http://www.blownco.com/index.php/doc_download/13403-enable-capacitive-buttons-new-jd81
for 4.1.2 roms use
disable: http://www.blownco.com/index.php/doc_download/639-disable-capacitive-buttons-jd81-zip
enable: http://www.blownco.com/index.php/doc_download/640-enable-capacitive-buttons-jd81-zip
just flash in recovery and reboot *put both zip's on your phone* flash disable and reboot, if you dont like it then flash enable and go on with your day
if this zip doesnt work for you *ie buttons still work after reboot* well then you dont have the proper rom,
either go on with your day or
-open a file manager
-go to /system/usr/keylayout
-delete the file sec_touchkey.kl
-reboot and go on with your day
Nice! Thanks Jamie, will definitely come in handy for me Pie/Nav bar addition!

Thought I'd share this for anyone who wants to disable the capacitive button lights. Credit goes to the original post I found at..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2210765
To turn off capacitive button lights:
1. Download a file manager with root access. I used Root Browser.
2. Go to system/lib/hw
3. Find the file named 'lights.msm8660.so'
4. Rename it to anything such as "lights.msm8660.so.old"
5. Reboot.
