[Q] Noise cancellation in Paranoid Android - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I cannot post in the development forums so here it is.
I am using Paranoid Android and having muffled sound in calls problem.
People say that my voice is muffled and comes from "deep". I read on the web
that noise cancellation may be the reason and tried to disable it but alas, Paranoid Android
doesn't have this option under sound settings.
So is it at all possible to disable noise cancellation in PA, or any CM10 based ROM?
Is there an alternative cure to fixing this audio problem?

[Q] Headset/Noise Cancellation Problems on CM10/AOKP/PA/PAC

Does anyone experience problems when speaking through the headset when driving on CM10/PA/AOKP/PAC ROMS? I do. People can't hear me, i've tried disabling noise cancellation in the phone settings, but it doesn't seems to be helping. Does anyone have the solution to this?
Headset works fine when i'm not driving and in a quiet place.

[Q] Skype speaker not working

Gentlemen,
I have a T-Mobile Galaxy S III which I've rooted and installed the latest AOKP milestone, which I really like. Here's what I'm running:
Android version: 4.2.2
Baseband version: T999UVDLJA
Kernel version: 3.4.40-aokp-g4c49719-00569-g2b8fa28
AOKP version: aokp_d2tmo_jb-mr1_milestone-1
Build number: aokp_d2tmo-userdebug 4.2.2 JDQ39
Aside from the occasional random reboot, which I can live with, the only problem I have is with Skype. It won't play audio over the loud speaker on the back of the phone. Audio only comes through the earpiece which is much too quiet. Ringing, call audio, everything plays through the earpiece. In an audio-only call, you have the option to toggle between the earpiece or the speaker, but both options just play through the earpiece.
Making a normal speakerphone call (not using Skype) works great. Skype just can't seem to use the speaker. What can I do to diagnose and fix this?
I know it sounds obvious, but I gotta ask anyway. Have you checked the settings in Skype?

Yes, I've been through all the settings and there's nothing about speaker vs. earpiece. The only option I've seen to toggle between the two is when I'm on a voice only call. However, when I've tried toggling speaker/earpiece, sound will play on the speaker for half a second then go back to earpiece.

I'm having the same problem. In my case there is no choice of speaker in Skype at all (not within setting nor while calling). I have seen some print-screens of the mobile Skype and there was as option for switching to loud speaker/headset while talking (a blue icon with speaker/headset). However, when I'm making a call, I don't have such option. I went through all sorts of discussion, but I haven't seen any solution to this.
Resolved
Regarding the option to switch speakers during a call, it's only available during a voice call. If video is enabled, the option disappears.
It seems the issue has been mostly resolved for me. I'm not sure if the problem was with CyanogenMod or Skype. Since I couldn't find a solution in May, I just abandoned using it on my phone. I didn't pick it back up until a week ago when I upgraded to CyanogenMod 10.1.0-d2tmo and got the latest Skype app (recently released). Now everything mostly works as it should. It's still buggy, but usable.
Samsung Galaxy Grand Neo.
I was searching for this Skype Bug Fix everywhere, with no success
But today I was trying everything, and my speaker started working after I putted volume less then have.
So by putting lower volume it works on my Samsung Galaxy Grand Neo (GT-I9060)

[Q] In-call receiver echo and muffle sound issues

Hi,
I have a HTC One X+ and have tried a couple of different custom ROMS:
Carbon ROM 4.4.2
Carbon ROM 4.3.1
The roms run really well, the only problem i'm having is that when I am calling people, they hear an echo and the sound is muffled and really bad quality..
I can hear the caller perfectly though, all the sound issues are only heard by the caller?
I have searched and searched on Google and these XDA forums but still haven't been able to find a solution to this problem..
I thought it might have been the latest 4.4.2 rom so I downgraded to the 4.3.1 however the caller still receives really bad audio / echoing..
Has anyone got the same problem? and more importantly how can this be fixed?
It seems so weird that it's only on the receiver's end of the call that the sound issues occur, i've read about a noise suppression option but can't find it anywhere?
This is just using the phone, no bluetooth headset / speakerphone.
Any help much appreciated.
Thanks,
Sam
My friend told me about a similar issue he had on his phone (not HTC). He said that this happened after he flashed a beta kernel which was unstable.
thanks for your reply, I've now installed the latest Cyanogenmod rom and even though there still is a bit of an echo on the receiver's end in calls it's not half as bad as it was.
I'll maybe try a different kernel, cheers

[Q] audio input - mic routing problems

Hi all, I've inherited a used Evo3D GSM phone which works very well except for one important issue. The Mic seems to be failing.
I'm not completely sure if this is a hardware problem or just routing.
Strangely enough, with ICS based Roms, the phone is using the earpiece (?!) as microphone; when I speak with my mouth near the earpiece sound is crisp clear on the other side but when I speak to the Mic it sounds muffled (because in fact sound input seems to be set to the earpiece and the mic is not active).
When I switch to VoIP calls using CsipSimple, the person on the other end cannot hear my voice. Only when I go into CsipSimple settings and change "Audio mode for SIP calls" from IN_Communication to IN_Call, the phone works as in a regular call (with earpiece as input, mic dead).
With other, JB and KK based roms, I've had different results; CsipSimple always crashes, no matter what settings I use and phone calls audio are always broken (no input).
Has anyone had similar issues? Can u use CsipSimple without problems on JB and KK based Roms?

Noise reduction in video and call (SD)

Hello,
i have problem probably with noise reduction - when i record video in quite room, audio is ok,
but when background a little bit noise, i hear only some scratches, sometimes a quiet voice ...
The same situation is when i record call, barely hear voices... is there any possibility to change settings in noise reduction?
I'm using aosp, on miui there where only problem with call recording...
Is qualcomm have something similar to mtk engineering menu? Maybe some settings in build.prop?
I think it's a problem of the secondary mic (it is located next to the headphones port) which is used for noise cancellation. I haven't experienced an issue with video recording yet (because I haven't recorded any video) but I have problems with call quality. Every time I place the phone a little far from my mouth I hear complaints that the other person cannot hear me, which wasn't an issue with my older phone.
The temporary solution I have found is covering the secondary mic with my finger (thus disabling it). Also from what I've found in the internet there are some other phones with the same problem and there are ways to disable the secondary mic through software but I haven't tested it yet. Here are the links I'm talking about

I repeat that I haven't tested this fixes myself and I don't know if they are compatible with our phone.
Thanks for answer,
when i was looking for a solution, i saw tread from one+ but i was counting that is fix directly for our model.
Firstly i change build.prop - and now testing, in audio platform i dont have such line, solution from nexus same situation - dont have those lines.
Hello..
I have problem with background noise during audio call.. because of that noise.... I didn't talk with person who is in call..
