Just sharing my experience with this phone as a global phone.
I nabbed myself a DNA before going to study abroad in London. The Verizon plan was hell to pay so I suspended my account -- $15 per 3 months -- and got a new SIM from giffgaff. Giffgaff gives me unlimited UK texts, unlimited 200+ kilobyte/sec internet, and 250 mins calling for 12 pounds a month. ~$18).
Setup was easy -- literally pop in the new SIM. No calling Verizon or anything. Was ready to go immediately and have had zero problems on the UK network. Reception is great everywhere except underground but hey what can you do.
Definitely recommend the phone for global use!

Good to know. While I have no travel plans in the future, being a life long Verizon subscriber I've never actually had a capable "world phone" before (I had to buy an absurdly overpriced pre-paid dumb phone last year since my TB didn't work in Spain) so it's nice to know I do now!
what type of network coverage do you get 2g 3g or 4g from them
The UK only has one LTE network right now (EE), and I doubt they're on the same bands as Vzw. So it'll be 3G.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using Tapatalk 2
I'm actually unsure what it is. I think it's like AT&Ts fake 4g (not LTE). I've seen it say "E," "3G," and usually it says "H."
Giffgaff uses the same network as O2. Verizon's whole thing over here I believe is Vodafone

I thought the DNA didn't work internationally? Nearly got the Maxx instead of the DNA because amazon's comparison tool says the DNA doesn't work outside of the US/Canada.
Amazon is competely wrong then. It has gsm and cdma radios so it can work on any gsm network and it is already SIM unlock.

I have used mine with three different carriers and no problems (US, UK, SP).
I use Simple Mobile. Does anyone know of another carrier in the U.S that could provide 4g speeds with AT&T bands?
I just gave away my spare atrix to my wife's friend. She's on T-Mobile and hasn't had any problems yet. I did warn her she's on 2g forever and ever.

Yea I use T-Mobile... I got more bars with the Atrix than I got with my last T-Mobile phone lmao... I use prepaid so 2g-4g doesn't affect me...

It will always be slow since its on 2g, nothing you can do.
Why aren't there laws that make it so cell phones are all interchangeable? Something like consumer freedom so you can buy any phone you want and use it on the carrier of your choice.
Use straight talk. Hspa compatible.

Actually, T-Mobile has said they're going to start adopting AT&T's 3G bands with the hope that Apple will let them sell subsidized iPhones. So depending on where you live, you may get 3G on the Atrix. I agree though, more interoperability is needed. This GSM/CDMA split we have is ridiculous.
I'm not using T-Mobile right now, but in a year (when my contract expires) I'm switching to one of their value plans and will unlocking my Atrix to use with them if I'm still happy with it. Given that so far the only spec I see improving on newer phones is the screen resolution, I think it'll still be plenty usable when that happens.

One of 2 ways to SIM unlock your phone. call T-Mobile or find a site online that sells unlock codes. If the phone is still under contract you might have a hard time with T-Mobile unless you tell them your traveling and need to be able to use a different SIM.
cellunlock.net
http://www.cellunlock.net
they just did my motorola atrix only took a day to get the code, worked perfectly.
my contract was only 2 months old, service had already been disconnected for nonpayment, and i still owe at&t like $400 dollars, didnt matter.
and htc phones are on sale for only $20, my atrix was twice as much
edit-just remember the wireless bands at&t uses for data are different then for t-mobile (i forgot about that part, very expensive mistake...)
I would highly recommend using an eBay seller of unlock codes with feedback. You don't have to worry about getting screwed over because eBay covers you and plus sellers always have to worry about being left negative feedback.
Htcimeiunlock.com are very fast! I've used them with unlocking an Inspire and Sensation, took under ten mins for the code to return via email.
Cheers!

I just unlocked mine right now, last night I was on the phone with tmobile and told them "I will be leaving the country in 1 month since I am paying for the full retail price of the phone I would like to unlock it." And I wake up this morning with an email with my unlock code and instructions!!
So I inserted an att sim card and the fastest speed I saw was of about 1.5 mbps but most of the time it was like .9 so no data besides 2g edge.

I beleive the t mobile amaze has the required bands as well for At&t 850/1900 so you should be getting 4g.
To get 3g you have to mannually set up the apn.

Well I used my parents BlackBerry sim and dads iPhone sim but neither are 4g.
I later figured I had to set up the apn for att 3g but hadn't had time for that. And I and running your latest quick sense rom X.
So I'm guessing I have to have a 4g enabled sim card to get att 4g?

Can you buy these unlocked? Im still looking around to upgrade and ive been looking at a few different phones. AT&T is the best carrier in my area so id like to stick with them, but i dont like the phones they have. I know the Vivid is similar spec wise to this phone, but it doesn't look at good imo. (i dont like the square brick look)..
Why does AT&T not bring in the better looking phones :|
Yeah you can but if your gonna pay full retail price just call the carrier of the phone tell them you bought the phone itself and need to unlock it. Or by from someone on craigslist already unlocked

that's because iphone's don't support 4g and i'm not sure about bb's but i think possibly only the newest and latest ones support 4g? (not sure)
but overall they only support 3g speed on at&t.
Furthermore, there was another thread where they said if you have an at&t data plan, you need to call in and tell them to update your data plan to a 4g data plan, it's no difference in cost, but apparently there is a boost in speed. Im not sure about that one because i'm on tmobile.
I honestly think that sim cards doesn't affect data speed.
@op who has not replied lol
if you're on at&t then call tmobile. They'll ask for your customer information, tell them you're not a customer but need to be directed to someone who can unlock their tmobile phone. Since you're not a customer, they will hassle you less because they won't be asking all these needless questions why you need it unlocked and etc, but they will probably try to get you to join them. anyways most of the times the rep will be happy to help you right away. But there are a few uhhh not so happy reps who will give you **** for it. If that happens, call again and talk to another rep. You have to remember there are people on the other side of the phone, most of the time the people will be glad to help.
I just got my HTC Amaze from my employee plan and now am not working for them so they gave me the unlock code but how can I get the At&t Apn settings?
search for AT&T APN. There are countless posts for this, they are pretty much similar. If you are using custom rom such as Bulletproof it will auto detect based on your sim card.

Im not really concerned with 4g per se. I'm wanting to go ATT but really feel the phone I want is the Nexus 5 based on the rumors. I like my evo 4g because of its camera. Honestly right now it is plenty fast for everything. In running meanbean on it and there doesn't appear to be anything I can't handle just fine.
I hate sprints service so I flashed the Verizon prl and after putting 5gb on it this week I should be getting terminated before too long.
ill need a service to jump on and Verizon's month to month is $70 with 2gb. That should be plenty for me. ATTs month to month sucks and I dont care for their phones right now. My goal is the Nexus 5 anyway. I'd rather just use verizons monthly with my current phone. Just depends how things work out. I also get 22% off Verizon plans so hoping that translates to a good deal.

The problem is getting Verizon's system to recognize a Sprint phone. You can take GSM phones from carrier to carrier because all you have to do is transfer the SIM card, but that doesn't work with CDMA carriers since there's no SIM card. You'd actually have to get Verizon to provision a Sprint phone for their system, and somehow I don't see them doing that.

Even if you could swap Sims it wouldn't help ya as the device itself is not provisioned to work on all of VZ freq.... Namely LTE... Lot more to how devices connect than the SIM cards...
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2
Call verizon customer service tell them you want to open a prepaid account and port the phone and they will help you. See the only real difference between the verizon 4g phones and sprint are the lack of sim card and imei. But you can still program it to work on verizons network. All customer service agents aren't the same by the way. So if one doesn't know how to help you then another one will and you will get your phone on their. Also if you take a look in this same section this really cool guy wrote a guide on flashing a evo 4g lte to verizon prepaid.

That was my point. Sprint and Verizon are both CDMA providers and it's not as simple as just swapping out the SIM like you can do when you move from one GSM provider to another (e.g. AT&T to TMobile).

as long as you can get verizon to accept the ESN number your good. verizon has been known to be more accepting of sprint ESNs than visa versa. Though you will not get anything higher than 3g which will top out around 3-5mbps. Also you have to get the phone to accept verizon prls but i think someone has a guide for that..signal should be good though paying 70 for prepaid verizon 2gb i'd rather just get tmobile at 30$ for 5gb of AWS signal just pick up a sony xperia Z

Any folks near New York area using ATT service? Do you have coverage when you have some road trip to Bear Mountain or some other hiking place?
My biggest fear was losing data connection when you need the driving direction the most.
Verizon saved me once in Ithaca back then near those wineries, but I am not sure if AT&T can pull off the same there....
Thanks for any comments here.
I am not so concerned about the unlimited thing because my wife will still be using Verizon's unlimited line in our family plan. Not like I lose such option forever.
I'm from Albany, drive down to Long Island a lot, take the Amtrak train occasionally. LTE is hard to come by, but Hspa is pretty consistent. No complaints at all. I jumped from big red in 2011 and haven't looked back. AT&T has been great to me.

AT&T 4G (at least download speeds) are so much slower than VZW's (from speedtests). The upload on AT&T 4G is slightly faster. Overall happy with the service here.

Yeah but basically you are paying twice for the phone. Verizon does not lower the price of their plans which includes a new phone subsidy, then on top of that they take the full price of the phone and charge you monthly for that until you pay it off. And lastly a $24 financing charge. Verizon is the ultimate scam corporation.
