Let's say for the sake of argument, I have SnowJB on my OG and I did the following:
Code:
[farnsworth]% ./adb remount
remount succeeded
[farnsworth]% ./adb shell
[email protected]:/ # rm /system/app/Memo*
[email protected]:/ # rm /system/app/Notebookbin.apk
[email protected]:/ # rm /system/app/Music*
[email protected]:/ # reboot
To get rid of Notebookbin.apk, MemoWidgetbin.apk, Memobin.apk, Musicbin.apk, and MusicWidgetbin.apk
Did I make a huge newb mistake in doing so? Or are those safe to remove? I'm not sure how to tell what's safe to axe and what's not. I saw this thread, but that was re: stock rom and not SnowJb.
Cuz everything seems to be working okay but I dunno if it'll bite me in the ass when I least suspect it.
safer to freeze the apps you want to delete with Titanium backup first (or disable them in Jellybean) then use the phone to make sure everything works the way you want THEN permanently remove them.

So far I've been too cheap to buy Titanium.
But disabling them in Jellybean will give the same result?

essentially yes.
Freezing the app with tibu was probably "ripped off" by google and put into ICs and JB

BTW Titanium backup has saved me so much time over the years it is entirely worth the price tag.
It's a shame that google doesn't provide a free way to backup and restore your data/apps.
You can also freeze apps with this for F.R.E.E https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.anttek.am

Spend $1.59 more to get an uglier app? I'm too cheap and shallow for that.
Quit being a noob and buy tibu. Those that root and flash their phones without it are retarded. I've heard good things about my backup pro but afaik tibu was the first and is the best.

You have two options, 1. titanium backup, which stores the app and all its data on the sdcard for immediate restore. What crump told you to do was to make this backup and place it on dropbox. Dropbox is a free (for 2gb, upgradeable with offers to 8gb) file hosting server. It works as a folder in windows, linux, mac, that you can drag and drop files to and have them synced to any of these devices at once. Great for vacation files, and keeping track of important files (like the tapatalk backup for instance) If you want to try this out, sign up with this: http://db.tt/8SjkWkMO (if you use this, give both me and you an extra 250 mb to our accounts free )
2. Use a backup app (such as astro file manager) the advantage to this method is you can install this file again without root, the downside is you don't keep your data, just the app itself, so you'd have to login everytime you changed roms. But again, no need for root, like if you upgrade to an unrootable device. This backup can also be stored on dropbox if you so choose.
Hope this helps

Yeah, google won't put alternate markets in theirs for download. Makes it harder for their competion to get noticed. You have to get the apk from getjar. Just select tapatalk from their website and when you try and download it, it makes you download the getjar apk first. Then you can use that to get tapatalk with.

TWC just released the app that will allow you to stream the live TV shows from your phone. I got really excited to watch Game of Thrones.
But when I try to launch the app. It says it does not run on rooted device. WTF?
What is the difference between rooted or unrooted device when it comes to TWC app?
I tried to unroot with root keeper to run the app with no luck.
Any suggestions or workaround to get it working?

confirmed here on Verizon Galaxy Nexus. Hope someone fixes this. You also have to have USB Debugging disabled, AND be on your home network (which means Road runner is also a requirement).
EDIT...
Turns out the TWC app only checks for the presence of /system/app/superuser.apk. A quick rename of superuser.apk and it works fine. A simple script can be written for this to toggle it.

If you use the app 'GScript' which is in the market, you can write a script and add a widget to your homescreen to execute the rename and to reverse it. Makes it real easy to go ba ck and forth.

Anyone else seeing ever so slight lag? Kinda like a jitter.. I'm wondering if this is due to rom/kernal or if it's just cause it's the first version.
Does this help?
:~/Downloads/com.TWCableTV-1$ grep -H -r "Superuser" ~Downloads/com.TWCableTV-1
~/Downloads/com.TWCableTV-1/smali/com/TWCableTV/androidphone/a/a.smali: const-string v1, "/system/app/Superuser.apk"
Thank you everyone for clarification. Some Driod-life members reported that clearing cache helps too. I have not tried it myself yet but it is worth a shot.
Quote from D-L: We have seen a user submitted tip that if you wipe the application’s data in your app settings menu, that could clear up the issue. It’s worth a shot, so give it a try if you have been having this trouble and let us know if it works or not.

I wonder if they've patched this already. I just tried, and it didn't work. Rebooted. Confirmed renamed APK. Cleared data in manage-apps. Still no go.
The only ICS devices I have are third-party (and rooted) ROMs.
Is there a problem if I have the superuser.apk file name?
renamed com.TWCableTV-1/smali/com/TWCableTV/androidphone/a/a.smali: const-string v1, "/system/app/Superuser.apk" to ****TimeWarner.apk and then renamed C:\Android\apktool\com.TWCableTV-1\smali\com\TWCableTV\androidphone\Login\Activities\SplashScreenActivity.smali an TWCHomeActivity.smali had root set to true so change the true to false and no luck.. I am shooting blind here so any help would be great

ya great, but what is it called? I'm not rooting my girl's s9 but I'm adb removing all the crap and I can't find google play movies & bs. I've found com.google.android.gms and think it must be a part of that. It seems like a fun package of Google bloatware that installs all as one for them and as some serious type of system file, because I could uninstall all of KNOX this way, but not com.google.android.gms Any thoughts from anyone? BTW I'm running a galaxy s9 (S960U from AT&T)

WOA I don't know at what point this happened until now, but deleting everything I didn't like the looks of, I enabled this unrooted S9 AT&T to uninstall bloatware from settings. The uninstall option became available instead of disable. I must have passed out and am dreaming because even on root I never got this awesomeness.
I wanted to know if anyone knows of a good app that installs multiple apps at once just like in the Team Venom rom? I found a couple but none have the option as i have to install one by one instead of the app doing it for me.

Yes it's like batch restore. I have a lot of apps. In the Team Venom Rom you can click, lets say 6 apps, and then install with one click and not one by one by one.
With TB pro you can backup all of your apps and do a batch restore with or without data any time you have to factory reset for a new ROM its one of the best root apps ever.

I have TB. What I need is for something similar. It is for installing multiple NEW apps. Not restore old ones. I don't know if TB has the option for it as I haven't fully explored it yet.
In my opinion its not a good idea to install a bulk amount of NEW apps. If even one of them makes your phone not work properly you won't know which one it is. I think one app at a time is a safer way to go.
"We're coming from a pure power source"
I am also curious about a program like this. I like Titanium Backup but when you have to reinstall 20 + apps it is still an arduous task because you have to tap install each time the next program is ready to install. It would be great to have an app that you select which of your backups you want to install, click ok, then walk away and in 5 minutes they are all installed. Is there such a thing?
Titanium backup pro does that. I restore about 130 apps in 10 minutes, automatically.

If you have ROM Toolbox Pro in App Manager you can backup all downloaded apps. Then if you clean flash a ROM, just sign in, add back ROM Toolbox Pro and batch restore all missing apps. Its great because you can also backup only newer versions of the apps you have etc..I swear this app is in my top 5. I use the, terminal emulator, build.prop tweaks if necessary, Font Changer and more
Edit...can't go wrong with Titanium Pro either.

Did you try clearing data on flashplayer then uninstall flashplayer. And try installing the apk normally.
I originally had issues installing this on stock Rom, not sure why, I finally got it working by flashing stock with goodies, then just installing the apk normally.
I am using dolphin set to desktop mode

Ask me about my ability to annoy complete strangers!

You have to pay for netflix, I like being able to fire up hulu once in a while to catch a show or two.

What shows does it have? Is it mostly new network shows? Thought it costs money for the service too...
Guess there's an easier way to find out about it than here. So, nevermind me.

Hulu is free hulu plus is a pay service, the modified flashplayer apk, mirrors a pc flash version, so u can trick the hulu site unthinking ur sitting at a pc and it will allow u to stream free content, basically the last 2 episodes of any show
