[Q] Why games always crashes - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am getting freezes after 1 minute or less when playing games (have to force shutdown phone).Maybe I did something with performance control (governor and IO scheduler),becouse when i am watching movies, listening music or browsing on the internet i don't get any freezes.I have tried 3 different rom's Rootbox,Helly Bean,Resurrection Remix. It's really annoying, becouse when i want to play something it freezes..Maybe somebody have any solutions about this?

Sluggish/weird browser performance

Hi guys, I have my Galaxy S3 for some days now, and I love it, but my browser acts really weird.
Some web pages take ages to load (xda-developers takes like 15 seconds), and sometimes they won't load at all. When they do not load, I can stop them from loading and then refresh again, and then suddenly they'll load in like 2 seconds (I get this mainly with androidforums.com). Then, there are lots of sites that load just normal ( for example head-fi.org). I have tried a lot different browsers and they all have this issue: stock, chrome, dolphin HD, ics browser+ and quick ics browser.
Im new to both android and this forum, so any help would be greatly appreciated!

I believe it's a problem with the JavaScript on ICS because the same thing happens on my Galaxy Nexus on certain websites like XDA. Turn off JavaScript in your browser settings and try the same sites. It's unbelievable that Google hasn't fixed this yet!!
Edit: You know it could also have something to do with how ICS connects with some routers for example: if a webpage is stuck loading: if you quickly turn wifii off then back on the page will load instantly. Who knows, I'm confused...
Wow, JavaScript is indeed the problem! Disabled it and xda loaded as it should. JavaScript is kinda important though, so turning it off is not really that convenient. Hopefully Google / xda devs will pick this problem up because it is really annoying...
And thanks for your answer
Would love to hear it if somebody has a fix

Bumping this, it is getting really annoying now... If there are people who do NOT have this issue, I would like to hear it as well, because if nobody has it, I'll try a factory reset.

Well I guess nobody cares, but I've found the problem: my 5ghz router. Switched it to 2,4 and everything is good now.

Did you do a full wipe (not just factory reset)? Are you overclocked or undervolted?
Also what ROM are you on, some older ones don't have the best drivers...

Latest nightly cm9
Update it did full wipe and formate system. Put it on and install rohan tweaks and dpi 132.
And works for now... but browser still same went on a site and ping gone browser... re open it. No restore tabs or some thing.... it not cool on some sites hw does that....
The only way I managed to get decent video performance was buying Chainfire 3D and enabling the EGL drivers (yu need the purchase version for EGL.)
Aren't the Rohan tweaks outdated for use with the most current CM9 Nighlies?
and maybe i wil buy other tablet
If the nexus 7 comes for 100euro i buy one.... because like i saw in other thread. The touchpad isnt smooth..... not for me atleast. Webos was good but yeah im a gamer so webos got bored with 20games....
But yeah. I would only buy the nexus if it goes for100 euro. 200 to much for me and to much for something without hdmi or sd or even 32gb and 7" screen.
But yeah... and the touchpad is heavy after somw time in your hands... 700gr is a lot... to hold hole day..

Sorry for bad explaination not so good in english...
But the most anoying is the browsers who closes them selfs.... hate it.... and cant find a fix.

I would try doing it clean once and install one of these games clean from the Store, and see if it still lags. At least that will help diagnose your problem. I've played several shooters without major lags on mine.

Try backing up and doing a clean flash. See if it's still slow. If it is, it's probably some app in the background or some app misbehaving.

It can be that.
I just did a fresh install from OaTs LnT to the latest nightly and I do notice the lag when swiping on the home screen (using Apex). Everything else works fine though, so far. However now that I think about it I reinstalled Apex plus data through Titanium BU, gonna try a fresh install to see.

Apex Launcher version 1.3.0 and newer lags on the touchpad. I reverted to an older version (1.2.5), things are silky smooth.

Is it just me guys or do you also encounter some random stuttering while playing music in stock music player? It's just a quick stutter but really annoying since it happens randomly.

Tried. Didn't help
Even tried b changing audio priority to highest.
Specially happens if I'm browsing something and some picture starts loading.
Doesn't happen in my year old iPod.
And I don't think it used to happen in ICS
I had a similar problem which i think i worked out to happen when a message was coming through or a application was updating, leading me to think it was a low RAM problem so maybe this could be whats happening, if alot of things are open in the background. Either that or processor isnt working fast enough. If your rooted and have a custom kernel try changing the profile to maybe a performance one?
But this didn't happen in ICS... jellybean was supposed to speed up our device not to make it crawl... looks like touchwiz is really  :banghead:

I'd say probably not - I can confirm I've got this issue too, after upgrading to JB. I can't see why so many with the same problem would mean that all our phones are faulty.
Has anyone got a resolution for this?
Mine does it too.. Its just cause of too low ram or something. Never had this problem on S2. This is just samsungs way of saying "upgrade to the S4"
This phone would be brilliant without all these microlags because of low ram..

Same for me since the JB upgrade in Poweramp and Play music. I thought it was something to do with my setup but had the sudden death failure on my phone so started with a clean install when it came back. Problem is still there with my new 32GB mboard and I haven't done any restores of apps.

It seems like some apps when they give ask CPU ( or RAM ) for something, the focus shifts from the music to that.
Like when weater widget asks polls for weather or something.
Funny how my 6 years old SE Walkman w800i was able to play for hours without a micro shutter.
And this almighty phone can't do a simple task,
It's worse when I try to browse and play music.

I agree. I've noticed it mainly when getting notifications through. It seems to me that it's down to bad RAM management. My Desire had less ram but played music fine with ICS.

Reply ****ing frustrated with the phone.
Can't even listen to song on PowerAmp while surfing Facebook in the app or browse lightly on Dolphin .
The songs start to shutter at random places.
And if I press home button, Nova launcher reloads.
I'm on stock LLC with stock kernel.. Rooted.
Any solutions?
I tried many things, new roms, new kernels. All megawipes and stuff, nothing works..
Same problem here . It's so annoying. Given the great number of people with the same problem, I don't think it is a phone problem but a JB one!! Please!!! Help!!! I already tried changing the buffering size and even though it did help a little, I still get some stuttering!
Here's what I think I've worked out so far.
The problem has only arisen since JB and was fine in ICS. A change of handset has the same issue with a clean install of JB.
It seems to happen across different music apps but tunein radio is fine so isn't a specific audio app. Could be that it's linked to a particular file format, e.g. mp3?
When it happens in Poweramp I can see the buffering constant, it never fully loads. Increasing the buffer size and priority doesn't help.
Notifications can make it stutter but it seems that the problem is already there beforehand from the buffering.
Clearing RAM doesn't seem to help, however rebooting the phone will improve it for a while.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk HD
I had the same problem.
Deleting the musicplayer widget on the homescreen fixed my problem.
Try deleting it or any other widget you have on your homescreen.
Think I've got a solution in poweramp. After a reboot go to settings/misc/tweaks and select keep service. It hasn't had any skips since I've done that and battery life/performance still seems OK. Early days yet though.

[Q] Galaxy Tab Youtube lag

When I first bought the Galaxy tab 10.1, I believe it was on honeycomb. I usually use it for youtube and games. Once I updated it to ice cream sandwich, whenever i watched youtube videos it always lags and never runs smoothly like it used to. I tried fixing it by factory resetting it but it would still constantly lag. Would downgrading back to honeycomb ?

I think that is your only choice, or flash a custom ROM, that's a known issue that youtube starts lagging and such on the ICS built, there went alot things wrong when samsung updated their built... it screxs things up alot
Hi,
I have same problem with a stock ROM on ICS.
I am totaly suprised is youtube lag espcially when it is an HD.

Ok, I have tried this video and there is no lag on my device. Played in the App and in the Dolphin browser in both SD and HD, though in HD the video paused a few times due to it buffering as my internet connection is only 1.8mb/s
I wiped my device completely (wiped data/cache/dalvik) using CWM-based Recovery v5.5.0.4 to install my roms. I was previously on Tasks650 ICS Rom. Used Titanium backup only to restore apps and app data, not system data. Also using SetCPU to processor to 200/1200Mhz with the governor set to interactive. All settings are default in the Yoda 2.4 Kernel/Fourth Bar Revolution rom except for having Force GPU rendering enabled.
I've pretty much gotten rid of lag on my tab.
Im on a jb cm based rom
I have it overclocked to 1.6(a1 kernel) and have a governer that will get to that speed fast
Have force 2d gpu rendering unchecked
And now it will only lag if I bring up the notification bar or tap on the video.

Are you sure? Could you guys try that video above on your tablet AND your computer to compare if there DEFINITELY is no lag? No offence, but some people don't notice stutters and lags as much as some other people because not everyone is the same. iPad users are keen to smoothness of course so if there is a SLIGHT lag, they notice, but some people (not all) who have been using Android only for years don't notice as much. I don't know about you guys, so if you do think you are very keen on smoothness, please do tell me and I will try your setups for my galaxy tab (as I just finished restoring everything on mine and set up perfect so that I don't want to do it all over again, and also sometimes the CWM backup doesn't work properly for me).
Also, I thought overclocking to 1.6ghz would drain the battery really fast, no? I've never overclocked my tablet above 1.4ghz.
Thanks.

Same for me I believe. I've tried every single configuration I could (almost every single ICS and JB rome w/ A1 or Yoda's kernel w/ over clock w/ changing developer setting) but I ALWAYS have the lag if I use the test video I mentioned above..
One thing that's very odd is that MOVIE TRAILERS on Youtube app do not stutter or lag AT ALL. They are PERFECTLY smooth in HD. Also when you access the movie trailers from Google Play store's movie section, they are all SMOOTH as well. But other videos still have lag (how much lag depends on videos) if I go back to those..
Maybe someone can figure out a cause of this problem from above?
many thanks for your response, experience and test.
I am happy because I am not alone, with same problem to youtube HD stutter and lagly.
But after your all reply for now isn't possible to find a good and reliable solution.
You thinks is a bug to ICS and youtube ?
Thank you

I tried it again on both Tab 10.1 and 2 laptops (windows7 and Ubuntu), no lag in either app or browser. Did you factory reset and wipe all cache and data before installing the roms and kernels? Tried it with Dolphin browser? You could try it with a fresh rom install without restoreing any data, perhaps? Other than that I don't know what else to suggest.

Thanks for your help.
I have always wipe data, cache, dalvik cache, and battery stat before installing any rom, but do you also do SD card partition or something to wipe your storage as well? I've never wiped my storage since Honeycomb.
I'm not sure if that's going to help or not..and not sure what is the best way to do this..

Hello,
I emailed Samsung few days ago, and they replied, but he completely misunderstood my problem please read the email messages below. Thanks.
I dont know why you understood my problem as Adobe Flash problem.
IT IS NOT.
Im talking about HTML5 videos, in the official YouTube APP, and Netflix App. And also MOBILE YouTube website in the browser.
I dont care about Flash. I dont want it at all.
I want these mobile videos (HTML5) to be working as expected, just like it used to be in Honeycomb.
Please dont say that its a hardware limitation, as my crappy Chinese single core tablet with ICS plays HD YouTube videos without any problem. And please dont say that its the problem with the app, as its not just YouTube app. The lag/stutter also happens in Netflix and TED.
Please send this to the software department and other departments as well, as many people are having this problem. Just read the links I included in my previous message. There are 5 forum threads and counting.
I believe in Samsung.
Thanks,
****

Dear ****,
Thank you for contacting Samsung Customer Care.
We understand that you have an issue with flash videos on your TAB.
We apologize for the inconvenience.
Beginning August 15th we will use the configuration settings in the Google Play Store to limit continued access to Flash Player updates to only those devices that have Flash Player already installed. Devices that do not have Flash Player already installed are increasingly likely to be incompatible with Flash Player and will no longer be able to install it from the Google Play Store after August. ............................................

Hi,
First of all, I couldn't find VIDEO section while choosing symptoms on this webpage, so I had to choose this one. This problem is actually a VIDEO PLAYBACK ISSUE. Please forward this to the correct department for me.
So since Galaxy Tab 10.1 Android 4.0 update, YouTube HD and Netflix HD videos have been lagging and stuttering really bad, especially music concert videos or game videos like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O2YJggBVdeI
Some videos play fine, but most of them lag and stutter a lot and are choppy. I'm talking about HD ones.
Please check out these forum threads so that you will know a LOT of users are having this problem, and it's NOT a matter of factory resetting.

Note that one of the links is for Galaxy Tab 8.9, as it is basically the same except for the screen size.
Please see all the links, and see that many people are having this issue of video playback after ICS upgrade. It's not a hardware limitation. In Honeycomb, they played fine. And not to mention, a Chinese junk ICS tablet I have has a single core processor and it plays same videos perfectly smooth.
PLEASE let other people at Samsung know this problem, and PLEASE, PLEASE release a small update that fixes this problem. I'm NOT asking for a Jelly bean update or any other future Android version updates. I'm asking for a bug fix that's very important.
Please consider it.
Thank you so much,
****
@ sw6lee : thanks for your update. I very interesting future response to Samsung.

Sounds like plain old lag.. Make sure things like powersaving are OFF. Clear ram and apps etc. often. What kernel are you using? - make sure the governor isnt a "powersaving" one, and that cpu isnt limited.
If you're still frustrated try a different Rom and/or kernel.

As above or return to vendor / service .
