No you can just factory reset and then install link2sd

which player do you have 3.6, 4.0, 4.2, 5.0? the root methods vary depending on the player, also is it the US (all capacitive keys) or International (physical home button) as this can also effect rooting method.
If you have 2.3.6 you cant root..you will have to flash custom kernel to unlock and then root

I have the 5.0 and can you point me in the direction to do that.

No need for those words. I suggest you try RJ's Kernel. It's rooted, and it works for me. More like 2-in-1 so you can have a new kernel and also a rooted device. Good luck!

dude if you don't have any clue the difference between rooting and a kernel then maybe you shouldn't be doing anything to your player at all, so don't get all pissed off when someone tells you to use google.

You can either use apps like app2sd like @[email protected] mentioned or go to Settings>Applications>Manage Application, then select the application and click "Move to SD card", if that application supports moving to sdcard. Keep in mind that not all apps support moving to sdcard. Also never move core apps to sdcard as it may affect its working. Hope I Helped
