Verizon unlock to another carrier? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I would like to know if its possible to unlock a new Verizon phone with a sim so that I can use it on another us carrier (ex. Cincinnati Bell ) which is my current network. If so is there anything special like network signal compatibility between the two?

[Q] Will my phone work in Spain?

It looks like I'm going to Spain for a month for work. Will it be possible to use a sim from one of the local cell companies there on my phone?
Just carrier unlock your phone with something like SGSUnlock or ask tmobile and you should be good to use a prepaid sim from there

Unlock vs PRL + SID. / NID

Stupid question I'm sure but I switched my PRL to us cellular and use there nid/sid for home tower what's the difference between doing that and unlocking a phone. Could I do the same on my hero and give it to my brother who goes through them and let him use it??

Unlocking is a GSM term. With GSM phones, there is no PRL; the list is built into the SIM card. You just switch SIM cards and that switches service/numbers. To unlock a phone is to remove the restriction it has to one carrier; if you put a T-Mobile SIM into a locked AT&T phone, it will ask you for the unlock/subsidy code to be able to use it on other networks (it asks you only once, permanently).

Global ready?

While ordering my Note 2 today I was reading the specs and vz lists it as global ready. So does this mean it is capable of being used on GSM networks?

Yes. I don't know if it will work with a domestic AT&T or T-Mobile SIM though.
Has any one tried a AT&T SIM card yet?
My guess..cause every other vzw global phone is this way...is you will have to get the sim unlocked. Usually accomplished by calling vzw and asking for the code.

Actually, every Verizon LTE phone that has enabled GSM capabilities has come unlocked out of the box. Verizon's older 3G-only devices that had global capabilities came locked, but the LTE devices come unlocked. There's no need to call to get it unlocked.
The Note 2 is unlocked and capable of GSM use outside of the U.S. right out of the box. As for domestic use on AT&T and/or T-Mobile, I haven't seen any confirmation either way. Some Verizon LTE devices work on domestic GSM networks, but other don't.
Sort of global ready. The sim slot is unlocked and you can use any sim card and make voice calls. They removed the ability to set an APN so if you are not using verizon ....... no data, just voice.

PRL Question

Is there a way to flash an ATT prl so I can roam off their tower?
Thanks

No, there is not. To use an AT&T tower, first someone would need to find a way to unlock the SIM for domestic use (which hasn't been done so far) and then you would also need to have a valid AT&T SIM card.

[Q] Convert G900V to G900T

I have the Verizon Galaxy S 5 and and I would like to switch it to a T-Mobile ROM. The hardware is the same so it doesn't matter what T-Mobile ROM I choose does it?
I apologize for the noob question but I didn't see an answer on this fine forum. Thanks!
Hardware is not the same. Two different technologies cdma vs gsm. Verizon phone should be able to accept tmobile sim when unlocked. They usually work with foreign sims without problem but they are locked for domestic (US) carriers. Maybe someone have some info how to unlock it for US providers.

Verizon S5 is already unlocked for US carriers by default and it will connect to T-Mobile on LTE Band 4 network and their 1900Mhz 3G/4G network. No AWS support.
The issue is the locked boot loader. Flashing a custom ROM is not possible. So no VoLTE or WiFi calling.
