I have a galaxy s3 and would like to know how to optimize a custom rom I am trying to make for battery consumption and speed. I know I can add a different kernel but is there anything I can do at the rom level? Btw this is my first custom rom and I am just doing it for fun. Any help is appreciated
Thank you
Hey
There are many optimizations, but I researched, just about all of them are present in Pimp my ROM Either you take them from there and include them in your ROM (Take from the aroma version of PMR) and make sure you have permission from the developer, or, your rom users can simply download pimp my rom and modify the rom themselves
As for zipaligning, you can do that via @dsixda's kitchen

should i try to flash a custom rom or edit the official wan? i wan my phone to have good speed, eyecandy n good batery life.. i wan to try energy rom but i scared this brick my phone.. would flash a custom rom bricked the phone easily? anyone help pls
I've done both tweak the stock rom and then flashed a custom rom (energy stand 23xxx series) and to be honest i prefer the custom roms over tweaked stock, mainly because i find the energy roms to be more stable, even though i'm using a rom based around winmo 6.5.3.
It's actually not that easy to brick your phone but i would advise you do all the related reading first and i would also suggest you start off by tweaking the stock rom before you flash a custom one. It will give you the opportunity to learn what works and what you like first.
At the end of the day the choice is yours and your fellow users can only make suggestions on the direction you should take
i have been editing stock rom since long ago, n i knw wat i want so i decided to flash an energy rom soon.. thx =)
Hi guys.. I know i'm a little offbeat here.. But can one of you explain or link me to any article which explains the basic of ROM, why change it, what is the use, and stuff.. I'm looking at overclocking my LG Optimus One but have no idea how to do it. Some heads up would be great!!
Thanks
A rom is the system of your device. You may change it if you want a new UI, more speed, customizations, more memory, etc. You can overclock your device by rooting and flashing a custom rom (the kernel allows you to overclock/undervolt). See here: http://www.androidpolice.com/2010/05/01/custom-roms-for-android-explained-and-why-you-want-them/. For rooting your device and installing a custom rom, see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=942248. After you do this, make a backup and flash a rom of your choice (for your device).
Hello guys, just randomly seen this term in a thread which I have never had any experience with it before. So can anyone tell me what is mods and how can I tell if it's installed on a custom ROM ?
Thanks
mod. As in modification. You install .zip's etc. Or a modded application. Custom roms are mods of AOSP or stock samsung rom.
Mods as in guys that wield big hammer to bad posters ???
Soon to be built in to all custom roms and browsers .
Modification to change something .

Hello there,
I'm new with android customization, and I'd like to know, it would be the best kernel with rom GlamourS5:
And if GlamourS5 rom is the best rom for my S3 closely as possible to S5.
I need a good battery and performance
Thank you.
In short the best kernel is the one supplied with the ROM, this is probably the only kernel optimised for your ROM. If you require additional kernel features pick a kernel as required.
As for best ROM I'm afraid the only person who can answer that is you, and the only way to determine the best ROM for you is trying them out.

Try archikernel 1.3. For me it is the best..no FC and no random reboot
Best kernel threads not allowed at xda..
Press thanx if i helped you in anyway...
Hi,
previously I was on Sony Xperia devices but now I switched to Samsung S9 +.
The first thing that struck me is the bad battery life.
I've been reading on how to solve this and I will at least do a full reset and clean install to see if this helps.
But if this does not help I want to know what to try next.
CUSTOM ROM
For what I have found the custom roms do not use the second camera and that's something I do not want to lose.
So are there Custom roms that keep the original functionality from the camera?
CUSTOM KERNEL
If installing a custom rom isn't the way to go, what about a customer kernel?
So far I found two of them
ElementalX
Nemesis
And there is one html with an explanation about the speed and battery usage of the Exynos chip.
https://www.anandtech.com/show/12620/improving-the-exynos-9810-galaxy-s9-part-2
There is speculation whether Samsung will do something about battery usage as there seems to be a solution if Samsung does some ROM changes.
For now I think installing a custom kernel is my best option but what about OTA.
Once rooted I will not receive them anymore, can I just download the now ROM from Samsung and install it over the existing one without resetting the phone?
And once the ROM is installed reinstall the custom kernel?
I'm open to other suggestions to improve battery life.
