[Q] superuser cannot be get rid of ? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

basically, i accidentally wipe all data on my phone and needed a new android version
so i flashed the 4.1.2 rom from some other website
google asked me if i wanna get the backups back
i pressed yes (dont know if this is why) (my phone was rooted)
nothing happened throughout the night, i have a game which only works on non-rooted devices, and it worked
but when i wake up the next morning, a superuser icon appeared on my phone
i tried to open it, and i can tell that it is a old version, because it has only got apps, and log list
then i tried to start up my game and it didnt work
so i tested it on root explorer and realized that my phone isnt even rooted?
which led me to finding root websites and wanted to root my phone again
and my phone still isnt rooted........
so, now im tired of reflashing everything (i flashed it 3 times before)
i just wanted to uninstall superuser off my phone and undo whatever i did using that link...
i tried uninstalling from google play, it asked me to update superuser first, so i did, but when i pressed the uninstall button after, it only uninstalled the update
tried to use "root app uninstaller", dont even see superuser in the list...
tried to use root explorer, only allowed me to stay in "read-only" mode, so i couldnt delete the superuse.apk in /system/apps..
please help...... thanks
(ill flash rom if there is no choice... and please provide a trust-able link... i tried so many different rom flashing websites and they all dont work well...)
thanks

my phone wont even start up now....
i stays on the "samsung" screen

Try to get in either Recovery (Vol up+power+home) although i doubt you have any newfirmwares stored there, but you can, as gaston said, wipe data + cache and dalvik cache then from there you can press (Vol down+power+home) to get into download mode and from there flash the firmware you want.
Hope it helps!
I dont think you can just uninstall SuperSU, but i maybe am wrong. It seems like you don't want to be rooted anymore which is why i suggst to flash a stock Samsung official firmware through download mode. Get stock official firmware from here (choose the one that fits your phone's information) and if you need more help, just reply.

[Q] help, all my downloaded apps and games are gone

so, first, i planned to install a new rom for my lg optimus one p500. and to do that, u must do nandroid backup first in the reboot into recovery mode. BUT, i did a mistake. i didnt install the recovery.zip first. so i did the three button combo hoping to open the recovery mode to do nandroid backup without installing recovery.zip first
then, when i do the three button combo, of course, there is no custom recovery appear at all because i didnt download the recovery.zip, and my phone is booting, right after that, my phone ask me what language my phone will use and told me to create a google account and finally press 'use phone'. then i realised my wallpaper has changed to default. and why i enter menu, all my downloaded apps and games are gone. that i dowloaded from the market and some from freeware. HOW CAN I GET MY DOWNLOADED APPS AND GAMES BACK?? THIS IS WHAT I WANT TO KNOW.
i think i accidentally did facetory reset on my phone. helo me guys is there any way i can get it back?? though its not a big deal if cant take it back. so i guess i just have to redownload them back. but just incase there is way to get it back so i didint make myself feel stupid redownloading them back when there is can get it back. so help me guys. i just want to know can i get back my downloaded apps and games back or not.
thanks, hoping to get some replys
HOME + VOLDOWN + POWBUTTON = RECOVERY. If you installed the custom recovery, you're taken to AmonRA/Clockwork/Whatever-you-installed. If you didn't install any custom recovery, you're taken to the factory reset mode thingy, which, resets your stuff.
I'm afraid nothing can be done However, I'm not sure if FroYo's way of moving apps to the SD moves the apk itself. If that's the case, you can browse to that directory and install the apks, but I don't think it's there.

thanks for your reply.
the problem is, when i did the home+voldown+powerbutton, i didnt install the custom recovery first, so thats why my phone taken to the factory reset. and all my stuff i saved in my phone memory are gone.
so... i guess i just have to redownload my downloaded apps and games again?
Yea, I find it stupid how they use the same buttons to factory reset to get into custom recovery... the same problem's been reported a few times here as well.
There is nothing you can do to get them back unless you wanna go to each app and download/install them again. But since you've already resetted everything, why not attempt to flash custom recovery and try new ROMs, literally, you have nothing to lose now =D

Unroot help needed

When I first got my S2 I rooted it to remove some bloatware like orange backup and maps. I was looking to also remove the orange startup and shutdown logos but never found how to do this. Now I want to undo all I've done (not much really) and put it all back the way it was.
Having searched the webs I find all the results about flashing using Odin to a new custom ROM, but I'm sure this is not what I want to do.
I am sure I made a backup of the original files but I can't find them anywhere on my computer. However, I have managed to find some files I must have originally used to root/flash.
Odin
S2Root 1.4.3
GT-I9100_XXKG3_insecure
GT-I9100_XXKG3_original
I have rebuilt my computer since I originally rooted my handset, so when I needed the drivers and installed Samsung Kies it told me I had an update to ICS. I've completed this but Sky Go is still saying my device is rooted and will not work. I've downloaded and tried superoneclick (latest version) but this crashes every time. Opening S2Root, which I'm assuming I used originally, and trying to Unroot it tells me my device is not rooted and aborts the operation.
How can I fix this now?
Thanks in advance

Hi there,
The best way to get your phone back to stock is to wipe cache and dalvik cache and do a factory reset.
This will bring everything back to how it was and you will lose root you can use Astro to back up all your apps and take screenshots of home screens so you can get it back to how it was.
I see you have the Original Kernel file still XXKG3, you can simply flash this through odin back to your phone and you will lose root access and be back to how it was before root. Just open Odin and flash this file in the PDA section of Odin and hit start
Or you can flash an official stock Samsung ROM using Odin..
If you let me know where abouts you are I can send you a link for the appropriate firmware ie Orange carrier branded official firmware, as released by Orange
Also is it Gingerbread or ICS you were wanting to revert to?

Factory reset and wipe cache will never remove root
There are many ways, but for a complete reset to stock, only way is format /system, wipe data and cache, then flash a stock rom in odin. Before, use triangle away to reset counter if needed

Thanks for the replies guys.
I have flashed using kies with the latest orange update so this is what I would like to keep. I want to go back to keeping it original as possible (couple more months and I'm due an upgrade and will be selling this)
Ok so going by Phil's process I need to format system? How do I do this?
Wipe data and Cache I think these two are options in Odin right?
Flash a stock ROM? I have that GT-I9100_XXKG3_original that I must have downloaded when I rooted it, will this do or do I need a different ROM?
If you can fully explain this in a step by step guide with using the ROM I already have, then I can simply connect kies and let it update to latest firmware?
Also, what is triangle away and will I need that? I thought if I flashed to original ROM in the steps said above I shouldn't get that yellow triangle?
Why would I need to reset counter?
I am a complete noob at this and appreciate all the help you are giving me.
Thank you
PS. Obagleyfreer can you post a link to the latest Orange ICS firmware just in case I need that too? Thanks
Having done some more googling I found the clear data and cache is when you put the phone in download mode (volume down+home+power buttons). This is also where I can factory reset the phone. I found this on youtube and the video didn't clearly show what options and folders to select if any. So, can you tell me exactly what options and folders to select please?
I'm assuming the above is my first step, then flashing a new stock ROM. Can you post a link to this please?
The video on youtube showed the yellow triangle went away after doing the flash, but he also had a little usb stick which reset the counter. Is there a way I can do this without that usb thing-ma-jig?
What's the best way to backup all my contacts?
Just do what Phil says.Triangle away is an app to remove traces that the phone has been tampered with,as that can invalidate warranty. You need to learn about cwm and Odin.
Sent from my GT-I9100
I don't know all the steps and exactly what to do, otherwise I would give it a ago. If there is a step by step guide to this, then I'd be more than happy to try it on my own without any questions.
Telling me to format system and flash I don't fully understand some points about this process, hence why I asked for more details, like what options do I chose and what folders do I select? You're asking me to go do something without giving me all the variables, would be like you giving a kid your bank card with pin and asking him/her to take some money out. If you don't tell the person the amount, then what's to stop the kid from completely emptying your account? Same principle applies to my situation, you have told me what to do but not given me all the details I need, so I could simply go and format the entire phone and go through every option and selection without knowing what's its doing and if it's the correct thing to do.
Before you telling me the triangle away is an app, I thought Phil was just telling me to get rid of the Triangle I never knew it is an app, so you see, you provided a final bit of information and now I know what this is, I can go and look for it (google ofcourse), once found I will try it, but post back if I have any questions. Such as, do I use this app first or is it the last thing I do.
I am a complete noob at this and details matter loads to me. Being a computer enthusiast building my own computers, I know every little detail counts when it comes to software/firmware settings. So, try to understand all your help is really appreciated and much needed information before I can start off on my own.
Thanks for the read.
Wipe data and cache is done in stock recovery options as you found, not in download mode
Format /system needs cwm. You can get it flashing a cf root kernel in odin. Another way is to get a temporary cwm like in the link in method 1 from my signature. Once in cwm, go to advanced or partition settings and you find the format /system.
Triangle Away is an app that needs root to run

Every newly installed app crashes at startup

Hello everyone, I hope I'm posting in the good section.
I usually can find solutions to my problems by searching and reading, but this time, I can't, and I have a huge problem.
As the title says, every new application that I install since a few days ago will crash when I try to use it. When I do, the phone will hang for a few seconds, then a message saying "unfortunately, <appname> has stopped", with two choices given: OK and report.
Every other app that was installed before still works. I uninstalled an app that worked and reinstalled it, it doesn't work anymore.
I have a galaxy S3 i9300, with jelly bean 4.1.1 (official rom from my carrier SFR), rooted with SuperSU through exynos abuse.
I don't know exactly when the problem actually happened (realized by trying to install and run new apps), but here is what I did before realizing the problem and that may be the source:
I tried to replace the android.policy.jar file to activate long press volume buttons to change songs. Didn't work, put the original back in place (with total commander).
I tried to installed Xposed after that to activate it, but it crashed too, so I uninstalled it.
Now that I think about it, it may have been with the same error message, but I can't say for sure. I dismissed it, thinking it was not compatible with JB and forgot it.
I uninstalled AdService through the task manager, and reinstalled it after realizing the problem, by using the apk backuped by rootuninstaller. But I can't force stop it from the task manager, so I guess it's not even running.
I also softbricked (stuck on boot logo) it by installing Chainfire3D on JB (I know, stupid of me. I did read the description though, but missed the "doesn't work on JB" somehow). I was able to unbrick it by using "adb -d shell su -c "/system/lib/cf3d_uninstall.sh"" (would that command work if the phone is not rooted by the way? I'd guess yes but I'm not sure) from my computer while the phone was in recovery mode (thanks to a user of this forum for the tip), but it was before all that and I'm sure I installed apps after that that would work.
Now when an app crash, the report is always the same:
Exception class name: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException
Source file: BaseDexClassLoader.java
Source class: dalvik.system.BaseDexClassLoader
Source method: findClass
Line number: 61
The stacktrace is also always the same, and is basically what's above.
I fear that I may have lost some system files (even though I don't remember modifying any beside android.policy.jar nor granting root access to apps that would. I didn't tinker a lot with my phone).
The strange thing though is that old apps still works, which leads me to think that maybe it is thanks to the dalvik cache and odex files that I read about (but don't know much) but that newly installed apps don't have.
I'd really appreciate any kind of help. Otherwise I guess I'll have to reset to factory settings, but I'd like to avoid that if I can.
Thanks in advance.

Aw, such a fail... So would a kind moderator move the thread there or should I repost it and let this one drown to the abyss of this section?
If no one else comes up with any answers, I'd say that your best option would be to wipe everything and install a stock ROM again. That should sort it out.

That's what I'm thinking about, but I have a question about that: would the reset to factory option from the recovery menu work? I see a lot of people advising to flash a stock rom, is there a difference between both (I do not have CWM)?
And is there a difference between "factory settings" and "store settings"? I mean, if I reset it to factory, will I have my phone in the same state I did when I bought it (with my carriers modifications and apps) or not?

Yes, I always factory reset via Recovery. This will give you a clean ROM with no extra apps installed.
Buuuuuut you need to repair your ROM since you messed with it. Just flash a stock ROM and you're good to go!

Ok, so I seemed to have mistaken a few things, I thought the factory reset did reinstall the rom, but apparently it just wipes user data and settings. And it also seems that flashing a new rom doesn't erase everything, such as CWM or similar things, right? So I wonder if it would solve my problem or not.
Also, I just realized, when in recovery mode, I have the classic 6 options in blue at the top, but then in the middle, I have this in yellow:
# MANUAL MODE #
-- Appling Multi-CSC...
Applied the CSC-code : SFR
Successfully applied multi-CSC.
And in the background, the android robot lies open with a red warning sign above.
The typo in "Applying Multi-CSC" and the warning sign make me think that this is not as it should be and there is a problem.
Would flashing also solve that problem, if it is one?
I'm sorry for the noob questions, but even though I'm reading a lot of guides and tutorials, I'm still quite confused.
The problem got worse: I did the wipe data/factory reset, and things got worse: when booting, I get dozens of "application stopped". Literally all of them, it's hard to even turn off the phone (need to press ok on all the popup to reach the shutdown button).
So I then tried to flash my phone, but problem again. I followed this guide exactly, but when I press start, Odin 3.04 hangs for a bit and crashes, be it on a windows XP or 7. It writes:
"checking md5... do not unplug the cable
please wait"
and crashes
I then tried to download another version, 3.07, but when I put the firmware in Odin, it does the md5 check at that moment and crashes again, on both computers, so it seems the problem isn't even related to the phone.
My phone is totally unusable now if I can't flash it, I'd really need some help.

Correct unless its a wipe rom .

Ok, I downloaded another rom from another forum, specific from my carrier, and Odin didn't crash. I flashed my phone, and it's working again. Only thing still worrying is that warning sign over the open android robot if I boot in recovery mode. It is still there and I can't find anywhere what it means.

Update, if any case someone has the same problem and ends here:
I tried once again to activate that long press, replace the .jar with another, it didn't work (I guess it does only on deodexed ones). Replaced the new jar by the original one, and the crashing new apps problem arised again.
Being less panicked than last time, I realized the permissions changed. The android.policy.jar should be rw-r--r--, as every other file there, but they were rw-------. So yes, bound to make problems.
So adb -d shell su -c "mount -o remount rw /system"
and then used total commander to change the permissions back to original. Rebooted, it works.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S5 unroot/Unbrick not woring

So im just going to explain what happened. Originally i rooted my samsung galaxy s5 g900a with towelroot, and i got some rooting programs. It went fine for a while but then there was an at&t update, and i accidently updated it(please dont ask how), and I did, and eversince then i couldnt acess google play, it said no connection, so I tried logging in and out of my account, and then it wouldnt let me log in to my account. So i reset my phone did so much stuff and still wouldnt work. I couldnt even re-root it or anything, and it said it was not rooted, so i just tried to root it everyday. Today it worked rooting, and i rooted it and then deleted the hosts file for freedom which fixed me being able to login in to my google account, but google play still said no connection so i tried everything it said to fix it with no avail. Then i tried reinstalling the firmware, but odin just wont work, i can install the stock kernal but not the rom. I am sure I have it right. So then with safe strap i tried to reinstall the firmware with, but it still didnt work, so i tried reseting, but i went reset the data cache and something else, which i am pretty sure was the os. Now i can put it into download mode, or recovery mode, and i also cant install the firmware with recovery mode, but anything past that it keep showing the Samsung start screen and shows a unlocked lock and says custom, but wont go past there. This whole time whenever i try odin i just says fail. I have no idea what to do know, i am pretty sure i just bricked my phone, and if i could get it unbricked, i would also like to know how i can fix the google play no connection, i have tried everything i have found online so far, so this is my last resort, and my only hope please help. Thank you. for taking the time to read this!

What update version did you take and which one are you trying to load now? You can't downgrade, so if you are trying that, that's probably failing, but since you didn't mention what the error was then I can't really provide much more assistance.

i guess you have messed up with CSC or something to start with stopping the google play from working..and then you have had your partitions wiped with wrong file system and thats why the rom wont boot..you need to flash the firmware on your device using odin with pit file as your drive map, and make sure you select nand erase all..i guess that will fix it..worth a try..wish you luck:good:

Towelroot and reset

Hi Guys
Awhile back i used towelroot to root my phone. Now with all the talk about the Flashlight app I want to reset my phone. The news article that I read said that if your flashlight app is over a meg in size then it most likely contains spyware. I am not able to boot into recovery mode. I have even tried to use a couple apps called Reboot Recovery and Quick Boot. When I try these two apps or use the pwr, home and vol up it boots to this screen then boots normally

The phone has nothing of importance on it because its new, all I want is to get back to factory settings. Its a Samsung Galaxy 3 (Canada)
Thanks

The news article that I read said that if your flashlight app is over a meg in size then it most likely contains spyware. I am not able to boot into recovery mode. I have even tried to use a couple apps called Reboot Recovery and Quick Boot. When I try these two apps or use the pwr, home and vol up it boots to this screen then boots normally

The phone has nothing of importance on it because its new, all I want is to get back to factory settings. Its a Samsung Galaxy 3 (Canada)
Thanks
Rick

The size of the Flashlight app wouldn't be the main indicator. Did you get the app from the Play Store? If so, look at the permissions of the app. Does it request to look at your contacts, SMS, etc? If so, then be worried and reset. If not, then unlikely it's doing anything untoward. As far as resetting, it's odd that CF Auto Root didn't restore the stock recovery. At this point, you will want to do 1 of 2 things:
1) Use Odin to install the stock recovery.
2) Use Odin to install a proper custom recovery.
With a working recovery in place, then resetting the phone will be a breeze.
Ok i used Odin to install a stock recovery. Odin failed and now I get a messege when I reboot the phone
Firware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again.
Keis will not connect.
Any ideas
ok i was able to use kies to get my phone back to where it was before using Odin.
In Kies I used tools - Firware upgrade and initalization. Got a message that said the device can be initalized to its original settings. All settings and data will be deleted and the latest software version will be installed.
When it was all said and done nothing was deleted all my apps and accounts I installed were still there. I did notice that it removed root
Whats going on
I still want to reset to factory settings
anyone have another way

So after the restore, you still can't get into the stock recovery? And it sounds like you used the wrong recovery. Let me know the model number of your S3 and which build version of the software you are on and I let you know what you should use.
Thanks you were right I got the wrong recovery found the right one did it again and Im good to go
Thanks again
