When im browsing the web, or doing anything with my phone, and i access a new message from my notification bar, it closes the current app, which, though easy to get back to the app, gets old if im having a conversation. does anyone know of a fix for this?
Im running SnowJb currently

Do you have the message popup option enabled?
If so, it won't close out of your app when you get a text, and you can respond in the popup.
But for the first time to get to the message from the notification bar, it will switch apps.
After that, when they respond, just respond in the popup.
i had that enabled at first, but i didnt like how it would pop up over widgetlocker, so i disabled it.

when I get a text, I get double texts. One on the stock Messaging app, the other on the Vanilla.
I have
1. Gone to Settings> Apps and disabled all the defaults for both the stock and Vanilla messaging apps.
2. Gone to the stock app's settings and disabled notifications and "auto-retrieve" or whatever it's called. Still, I don't get double notifications now, but I do see double posts inside the Vanilla MMS conversation thread.
Is there anyone running this that has managed to make it stop?
Despite restarting a few times, still nothing. Is there not anyone using this? It was a big deal when it wouldn't install as an .apk at first, I'd like to think some people finally got it to work.
if you dont have root then you cant get access to the /system/app folder so you cant remove the other mms app. thats whats causing the "bug"
I've read earlier posts that had the same problem I do, but most of them were old (and hopefully the problem has been fixed now)
Swype makes the messaging lag because the client has to load a certain amount of messages before you can start. is there a way to either fix this, OR make the client not load as many messages?
i experienced the same problem so had to ditch swpye a few months back, great substitute for typing making fewer mistakes savng time so if anyone does have a solution please let us know
nope, apart from regularly deleting your texts theres no way round it....
swype has its own issues with lag though whether its htc messaging or winmo messaging... even right now ads I try and type this reply swype is making me want to smash my face into the phone and scream "why wont you type? why wont you ducking type!!"
Go to settings tab, then More.
then go to 'Personal', and go to 'Input'.
When your input methode is Swype, tap on the button Options.
In the options scroll a bit down, and look for the part called 'Operation'.
Slide the slider of Speed vs Accuracy completely to the left (fast response).
Then tap ok, and it should work better.
Let me know if it worked for you, because they told me here on XDA it can possibly work, but I dont have received enough text messages yet to test it.

Nah, that's how I always keep mine, using it any either way drives my crazy-er! thanks for trying though.
What do you mean, it works exacly the same
had same problem for a long time , only affects swype
On the hd2 their are temp files the msging app uses i noticed its bassicly a giant debug log. When I saw mine after only having my phone for 2 months it was about a gig or so...I highly suggest deleting that. I am not sure if the HD2 opens that or its just an appendage type thing.
the best "solution" I've discovered is just turning off threaded messages. it's kind of frustrating, but there is no lag now...
I've found that custom keyboards are laggy for me too. The best solution that I have found is to simply make my phone faster. when I overclock or install a custom kernel on my phone, it usually decreases the lag caused by custom keyboards.

Good point, but it does not work everywhere. If you open a message from the sense preview it always starts the threaded view even if it is disabled in the inbox. Do you know a way how to disable threaded view there too?

Yes, you're right, and no, I don't. I just have to go through all the shenanigans of clicking everything. To me, it's worth it to use swype, and it's still faster and less tedious in my opinion, than waiting for messages to load.
Now I am using the ShapeWriter beta. It does not lag like Swype, however I really miss the vibration and a few other things. like swyping smileys.
For me, the lag only occurs when I use the newer version, 3.9.
If I use the older version of Swype I get no lag. Don't know what the version is but I attached a screen shot of it.
I have a strange problem - I have LauncherPro (with customized dock icons), BobClockD3, and MinimalistText, running at DAS Bamf Remix 1.6.3. I get notification sounds but then when I go to open my phone, they do not show up in the top notification bar and I have to go to messages/Facebook/or whatever to see that I got a new message. I am not sure if this is due to LauncherPro because I noticed it after I installed it, but I tried checking off the "Missed call count/Unread SMS count/Unread Gmail count" under Preferences -> Dock Settings, but since I have customized dock icons, I am not sure if it will work or not... I even tried unchecking them, but I still do not get any notifications on the top of the my phone, which is strange. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? Any help would be appreciated!
Other phone information that may prove useful:
Android Version: 2.2.1
Baseband Version: 1.16.00.0402w_1
Kernel Version: 2.6.32.21.bamf_4.4.7-g21c0620-dirty (by a adrynalyne #1)
Build Number: 1.13.605.7_Das_BAMF_Remix_1.6.3
Software Number: 1.13.605.7
Nevermind, after a reboot and re-installation of LauncherPro, everything seems to work fine. Strange that it happened... Oh well. Thanks anyway!
Actually, now I have a slightly different problem but it still relates to notifications (so I did not bother making a new thread). On LauncherPro, I checked off all the notifications in Preferences -> Dock Settings -> Dock Notifications. The Gmail and the Phone ones work - when I have a new mail or missed call, a little red bubble appears next to my custom icons in the dock that tells me so. However, for SMS, it does not appear. I believe I remember it appearing one when I first used it, but it has not appeared since. Any idea on what I should do?
Also, is there an app or a way to make it so when I get a text, the screen on my phone lights up? Thanks! Any help is appreciated! (Sorry for this noobish questions)
Bump (still cannot find any solution).

i have the same problem with the same setup. haven't found an answer yet either.
I mean, it's such a small problem and it really is not a big deal, but since I have noticed it, I have been trying to find a solution and since I cannot find any, it is just eating at me now, haha. It's like a personal mission to try to fix this problem.
same here. do let me know if you found a solution.
i'm thinking ill uninstall launcher and see if that might be the problem.
thanks
You mean uninstall and then reinstall or just uninstall completely?

dont know what is the cause. i unistalled launcher pro. still with no positive effect.
This is strange... I am going to continue looking. Do you use the default messaging that comes with the phone or do you have an alternative app for SMS messaging (like Handcent or something like that?). I am thinking maybe a different messaging app might work with Launcher Pro, but again, I would have to experiment and test it out... Although I do like the stock messaging system, I would want to try to keep that.
Bump - does anyone have any advice on the problem?
Go sms pro will light up the screen when you get a text. It works well for me. The other problems I am not sure about. I have the same ROM with launcher pro and no problems

Go SMS Pro? And you are able to see notifications on the bottom of Launcher Pro when you receive a SMS? I was looking around for a new messenger system, but I saw Handcent, Go SMS Pro, and a few others and I was not sure which people think is the best. I guess it is personal preference and I will give some a try... Thanks! Does anyone have any opinions on Handcent vs. Go SMS Pro vs. others?
I am going to try Go SMS Pro after I try to update my radio/try on a new kernel in the next few days, and I will let people know if that works or not.
EDIT:
I installed Go SMS Pro, relocated that shortcut on my dock, and after a few items and changing the icon around and putting the SMS Notification off then on again a few times, it finally worked. I feel maybe the HTC Messenger gives the LauncherPro dock problems at giving them notifications when messages come in? I have no idea. I like Go SMS Pro though, so anyone reading this, I recommend it. Thanks to everyone who helped!
Can anyone suggest a way round the browser getting killed and forgetting all the tabs?
I've not been able to find anything, the only suggestion being that anything with a notification in the bar won't be shut down so i tried setting this up via tasker, but that didn't work either.
It's the one thing that is really irritating me about my move from iphone to android, ok it's not a big thing but if i leave a tab open to read it later, or if I'm 1/2 way through I don't want to have to go re-load it just because I end up doing something else for a while.
This happens with every browser I've tried so far.
Hi, I've looked and looked for this.
I was using "Missed Call," But I'm looking for an app that's slightly different. Has anyone ever found one:
An app that repeats notifications on new sms's and missed calls, but will stop the repeat notifications once you press any button (don't have to pass the lock screen).
I noticed an android issue that's 2 years old: (sorry, no links new user, android issue 1027) and perhaps this is not possible at all? If not, would it be possible with root or a custom rom like cyanogen?
Most feature phones can do this, I found that turning off a notification is really hard when i'm in a meeting and the thing rings until I can open it, unlock it, drag down the menu, and clear it.
