[Q] Flashing a kernel and turkbey V12 rom - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am having some concerns whether the Siyah v6 kernel and the turkbey v12 will be compatible on my SGS2 GT-i9100 running the 3.0.31-CM-geecea2b kernel and AOKP rom with android version 4.2.2. The baseband version of my device is I9100XXLPX. Also, when doing this process, do I just flash the kernel using odin then upload the turkbey rom to my device and run it?
Thanks in advance. Also if you need to know anything else, just ask.

Turkbey v12 should be compatible for the I9100. It also comes with Siyah kernel bundled inside it. So you dont need to flash another kernel.
Siyah v6 is for Samsung JB roms. Turkbey v12 is ICS 4.0.3. It will work but is not necessary. Siyah v4 would be better.

I didnt understand. Why flash using Odin when you already have CWM recovery? Siyah kernels can be downloaded as CWM flashable zips.
You can flash Turkbey rom in CWM recovery too..

XWLPG is 4.0.3. So it is safe ROM. Why you want to jump to risky ROM?
Neat ROM is stable but you need to use with kernel like siyah, dorimax or speedmod . Don't use stock kernel.
But since neat rom have siyah kernel, i can say it is safe (not 100% guaranteed).

NeatRom lite is already using Siyah kernel and is 100% safe. Before spreading wrong info, you could have just visited NeatRom thread instead.

NeatRom lite XWLPX, uses Siyah kernel and it's therefore 100% safe.
It's very stable too.

NeatROM is 100% safe and is an excellent ROM, the dev Salesale is extremely helpful and friendly and has many mods for it too.
Go for it, LPX is GREAT!

[Q] How to restore Nandroid backup

Hi,
I know this might seem like a real noob query but i still wanted to ask it to avoid any issues later.
I had taken a Nandroid backup before installing the Siyah Kernel 4.1.1. I want to get back to my stock kernel XWLP7. My device is a S2 GT-I9100, ICS 4.0.3, XWLP7, Siyah 4.1.1. I would like to install the supernexus rom which currently supports only stock kernels or dorimanx kernels.
Appreciate if anyone could let me know if there is a CWM flashable XWLP7 kernel available. Else, it would be really helpful if you could list out the steps i need to follow to flash the stock XWLP7 kernel using Odin.
Thanks,
Gokul
Looks like you are rooted..so I would suggest u to install siyah kernel 4.1.5 ...which will support UR stock ROM...
This kernel also support dual boot so u can have both super nexus 4.1.1 and stock ROM together...
Let me know...

Forgot to mention ...you can flash siyah kernal 4.1.5 throw CWM ..that's a .zip file or
Or Odin version .tar file...
After that u can restore your backed up stock ROM and do full wipe .followed by clear delvik cache...fix permission ..done

CM10 builds after 20121002 have new Mali drivers, so you will need to flash Siyah/Dorimanx which also have new drivers. Patched Siyah has no dualboot option, but I haven't tested dualboot on Dorimanx yet.
Anyway, OP is asking
if there is a CWM flashable XWLP7 kernel available. Else, it would be really helpful if you could list out the steps i need to follow to flash the stock XWLP7 kernel using Odin.

I suggest you to just flash stock firmware (get it from http://sammobile.com/firmware), unzip, load tar.md5 file in PDA in Odin (meanwhile in phone enter to download mode (Vol- + Home + Power)) and click Start.
I think youve misunderstood. It supports stock CM kernel. Not the stock Samsung one. So you don't need to go back to stock.
Secondly, any ROM you flash (as your primary) overwrites the present kernel anyways. So you can install supernexus and get cm kernel. If for some reason it doesn't work out, install dorimanx via Odin and you'll be sorted

can i use SiyahKernel S2-v5.0.1 on stock 4.0.4 rooted
i used http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501719 method to root

No v5.0.1 are used for roms with new mali drivers i believe.(someone correct me if it works for stock roms) You can use v4.1.5. Although its safer to flash ICS 4.0.3.

Yea, its pretty much safe to use this Kernel with Samsung Stock ROM 4.0.4 to get rid of brickbug. I've tried it and its working fine.
Now I'm going to try one of those custom ROMs available here
as I can't wait anymore for Samsung to provide me the latest Jelly Bean ROM.
Go ahead with flashing Siyan v5.01, its safe.

New mali drivers?? Anyway you should realize the most suggested method to avoid brick bug in 4.0.4 ics is installing Siyah 5.0.1 because it's the stablest kernel in many ways.

yes its absolutely safe! i had siyah kernel 4.1.5 and just updated ti to siyah 5.0.1, every thing fine and i got an app stweaks, and i feel nthing difference by the way!
another thing-->it feels that my battery is draining a bit faster thn before.
i would seggest that update ur kernel only and only if u want to run cynogenmod10 JB on it, otherwise leave fone with siyah v4.1.5!
I want to do the same on SGS2
Presently running 4.0.3
I intend to use Philz temporary CWM recovery to flash the Siyah 5.0.1 and CM 10.1
Do-able?
Thanks

Just reboot into download mode and flash the .tar version of Siyah. No need to go through any other kernels/recovery first.

i want a CMW Recovery on my SGS2 by flashing kernel with Odin , can anyone give me a kernel ?
use philz kernal, it is the only one that works with 4.1.2 roms at the moment.

Flash Phillz kernel via stock recovery. It is safe through stock recovery.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1877270
From Phillz kernel thread,3rd post...
Recovery (.zip) packages instructions - Will also root your phone * recommanded method *
They come in the form of -signed.zip files that can be flashed in stock recovery 3e: No Yellow Triangle
Download xxx-signed.zip kernel matching your ROM
Put the previously downloaded xxx-signed.zip file on your external sd card
Boot into stock recovery (volume up+home+power)
Select "apply update from external storage".
Now select the xxx-signed.zip file you copied in previous step
You are rooted + new PhilZ-cwm6 kernel with CWM6
Philz has LS6 Kernel?
Would you know which file (signed.zip) we should use? I don't see LS6 on PhilZ post yet.
Regards

Oops! My ROM is actually XXLSJ. I believe LS6 is the modem only. Philz does have the right file.

What about Siyah?
Gokhan has made Siyah compatible with JB now too
Infact i rooted my JB using Siyah
You can get it here if you want siyah of course. (Download the TAR, NOT Zip... TAR)
Cheers.
EDIT: Okay i lied i little, i didn't have root when i said i did, but i do now! Eveything went awesome. Your choice if you wnat siyah or not
Hi guys,
I just flashed PhilZ-cwm6-XXLSJ-OXX-4.35-signed.zip from external SD card using Philz Touch 3+CWM 6.0.1.5.
Now, my recovery shows Philz Touch 4+CWM 6.0.2.8.
Looking good, BUT it looks like I lost root. SuperSU says it needs to update it`s binaries, but fails to. If if SU at android terminal, it segmentation faults. And no root application (like Titanium) are working anymore. Even "Got Root?" shows me I lost root.
Does anybody know where did I go wrong? My ROM is the leaked 4.1.2 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1992476).
Regards
Flash siyah v6 instead.

Thank you Gastonw. After a goo Kernel Wipe (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=35923600) I did flash Syiah and the root problem is still there.
So there I go flashing a new ROM. I think I`ll go Chameleon v3.0.1 Samsung/AOKP hybrid. I might keep it with Jeboo for a while as well. Maybe I`ll try Syiah again later.
Hope it works this time.
You can also try supernexus, I heard a couple of good things about it too.

I got Chameleon flashed. It is impressive! Soooo fluid and beautiful. The Kanger tweaks of the ROM are very useful. And of course, my rooting issues are gone now. I`ll probably stick to it a for a while.
Thanks

Need to flash a new kernel

Hey guys,
I recently rooted my galaxy s2 with jeboo kernel and installed jelly bam rom v7.6 Android 4.2.2. Everything is working fine. But I found out my kernel doesn't support few overclocking apps.
I want to flash siyah kernel v6 now. I prefer Odin method. Can I flash a kernel in the same way now? Does it affect my rom? Do I need to back up rom and apps and re install them after installing a new kernel? Is siyah jelly bean rom compatible with all custom roms?
And which is the best kernel considering overall features?
Thanks

U can try the latest Dorimanx Kernel which does support OC (overclocking) or UV (undervolting) for u

Why odin? Since u already have custom recovery, flash it using CWM.
Flashing a kernel will affect ur rom, but not ur apps or data. So u do not need to re-install rom or apps. But a backup is always recommended.
If the kernel is not compatible with ur rom, you may get stuck in a bootloop. Siyah has different versions for different roms. v6 is not completely supported for 4.2.2 roms. Choose Siyah mcm v5 vsync kernel or go for Dorimanx.
To ensure a clean install, use a kernel cleaning script before flashing the new kernel.
