Coming from the original HOX - HTC One X+

Hi guys, I've had the original HOX since release date and after almost a year of babying my phone I decided to do away with my case & screen protector so I could really enjoy the beauty of the screen. Well, I guess it doesn't take much to say that I had an unfortunate drop and my screen shattered from end to end. I opted for the newer HOX+ through Assurion since it came in black and they only had white in the original HOX.
So has anyone transitioned over from the original HOX? Is it a much better experience? How far along has the dev community come? Are there certain tweaks & mods that I'll miss that aren't available on the HOX+

I went from the One X to the X+ just like you. I do appreciate the extra 32gb for pics, vids, and music. I don't know how much you're interested in music but the headphone output is MUCH better as they improved the hardware. To me that made a big difference. I did prefer the One X screen though as the HOX+'s is slightly yellowish. I think it might be a software issue and am hoping that one of the devs sorts it out. Other than that, I'm personally using the same ROM (Ordroid) and the same mods (Camera Extrim, battery percentage) It's a great phone, with some improvements in various areas. The only real drawback is the 1gb of ram. 2gb and it would've been perfect

I went from the hoxl to the x+ and I gotta say I really love it! The dev community is not that big but I really can't complain. Truthfully we have enough development to have a fun fast and stable device! If your like the type that flash roms everyday than I probably wouldnt suggest the x+.
Sent from my HTC One X+ using Tapatalk 2

Well I do like to flash roms and tinker with mods but at this stage stability is much more important. The extra storage is definitely welcomed. I've been on scott's CleanRom for quite a while because battery life is exceptional and as long as there's a CM10 port (if there is) for the X+ so I can get my stock Android fix, I think I should be okay with the selection of roms.
Thanks for all the replies so far.

my hox+ screen was yellow, but I sent it of for repait due a dead pixel, now its whiter than my hox, the original hox now looks yellow lol.

HOX has MIUI while the HOX+ doesn't. That's a big minus lol.

I went from a ATT HOX to HOX+, and there's not AS much development it seems, but there's plenty to keep me happy. My only "beef" with the X+ is the inability to transfer files via USB mass storage. I respect the capabilities and advantages of MTP, but most of my hardware, like my Chromebook, Acer Iconia, and PS3 aren't MTP compatible, which can be very annoying, when trying to transfer files and MP3s. As for the developmental end of things, I flashed the mods that are available for the HOX+ and am 100% content for the time being not running a custom ROM, but I'm also a fan of sense 4.

I've come from the xperia z and I'm more than happy Development is clearly not as active but the quality is there and as long as you have cm and stock customs its all good Only thing thing thats a little strange to get into is having to flash the kernel thought fastboot. Oh and having no sd card is trippy I used to enjoy giving my phone a complete wipe between flashes

From Tmo S2 forums. need some opinions

i might be trading my s2 for a amaze. can u guys tell me the goods of this phone? whats it better than s2? i dont want "just cuz you have a amaze u like it better". i want some real reasons ha.
is ics coming to this phone ota? or custom rom?
build quality?
battery life?
I was debating between the two when I updated, and I went with the amaze. Felt better, looked better, better camera/video, and I liked the screen better. Screen seemed smoother too. Only thing I don't like about it is the battery, it really does lose out in that category.
overall though, I liked the amaze better.
how about ics? whens that coming for amaze?
read an article some mfg's are bringing updates out very soon. depends who your provider is
im tmobile. you think ics will come out?
and r there any other things amaze has over the s2?
The phones are virtually identical in terms of hardware. The S2 will benchmark a bit better because of its lighter operating system but in terms of real world use, they're both fast phones.
You just have to ask yourself whether you prefer Sense or TouchWiz. Otherwise, go to a T-Mobile store and try playing with an Amaze and decide for yourself whether or not you like its build, how it feels, which screen you prefer, how important the camera is to you, etc.
Additionally, this phone may or may not ever attain S=off, so although flashing new roms is not difficult at all if you read, it is not as straightforward as it is with other devices.
In terms of an official ICS update, it's supposedly releasing early this year:
http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/07/htc-announces-specifics-on-ice-cream-sandwich-upgrades/
I had the amaze for a couple weeks and now the s2 I can tell you its just a matter of personal preference. I preferred what the amaze has to offer over the s2, camera mainly so now I'm trying to find someone to trade with the s2 is a good phone a lot of people choose it over the amaze but to me the things it offers like screen, being thin, tw aren't what I want.

i saw buy a externel sdcard thats the best there only like 10 bucks for 4gbs
Well I'm coming off the HD2 so it's like taking a big leap and in lots of ways the Amaze is just a better piece of hardware. One of the things I do miss is the phenomenal development that went on in the HD2, you name it and someone was working on it. I really like MIUI but so far it's not been ported.
I cant complain about the work here, damn these guys are good and the ROMS are incredible. I'm using the latest from Xboarder and cant think of anything that doesn't work and work well. Even the battery is good & lasts about the whole day with some pretty heavy road warrior usage. One thing I did was pick up the Anker battery and charger off Amazon, for $18 you get the charger and 2 batteries, I never worry about running out of juice, it's a good system.
I'm an HTC guy, I looked at the S2 but just liked the amaze better but it's a personal preference, they are both solid phones. I push this thing in ways I never thought possible and it just works.
I'd not say the Amaze is going to blow your mind if you're coming from an S2 but HTC pays a lot of attention to detail and it really shows in this device.
The build quality, camera and Sense are all very refined and make for a rather polished device. Go for it

thanks ha. well is htc going to push out ics for amaze first then samsung?
Thinking of picking this up too. I had 3-4 S2s and the screen issue is what killed it for me.
What are some options of extending the battery life via better roms/kernels? I know the synergy kernel for the s2 (t989) was amazing.
If the battery life is bad, I'd rather just wait for the next thing.
I have both the Samsung Galaxy SII and the amaze. Both are practically the same. I prefer HTC Sense over Samsung TouchWiz. The battery life is quite bad on the Amaze, the SII definitely has a better life. However, the resolution the galaxy is horrible for its size. Overall, both are great phones, it comes down to the UI.

I gave up my sensation for the sg2 because I thought I had to have the sg2. As soon as I got home I was already disappointed. Could not get over how blue the screen was. The size was awesome but size is nothing if the color is poor. Touchwiz is gay, go buy a iPhone if you like it. Sg2 felt cheap too. Being my sensation was sold, I exchanged for amaze. Htc just plain and simple makes great phones. Coming from the sensation to the amaze was kind of a let down. Phone isn't any better except the camera and dedicated shutter button. The fact of no development with the amaze makes it rather boring. Waiting on ics.

Everything on the software side of the SGS2 (blue tint screen, TouchWiz sucking) could've been fixed on XDA.
I can't stand the 480x800 resolution on that 4.52in screen.... Also, it felt too light (SGSII)...
I have both the Amaze and the Sensation and I love them both. The Sensation has tons of ROMs and development. The Amaze has less development atm BUT the work that xboarder does IS OUTSTANDING. Plus, the camera is very nice.

Not to make you feel bad, but my teen daughter (14 years old), got a 16gb class 8 microSD as soon as she completed her small house chor. She needed the extra space so bad for storing the songs she wanted to carry around, and I was in a good mood for spending the few bucks it cost me.
In any case, you can do everything you're asking for without an sdcard. Go visit the [FAQ] or the [How to Root] threads and see for yourself.
By the way, I did buy both SG2S and the Amaze on the day it came out, and I am letting my wife use the SG2S. She thinks exactly the opposit. I feel lucky that she didn't chose the Amaze!!

I'm surprised your wife likes the SGS2, most females I know hate the phone or any with similar dimensions due to the phone being "too big" for their girly ass hands. Plus they're addicted to BBM anyways (ugh, BlackBerry)
The Amaze looks manlier in my opinon anyways

Coming from a One S, is it worth to upgrade to the One X+?

From the title itself, is it worth to upgrade to One X+? I mean, one downfall of the One X, is faster battery drain compared to the One S.. and the One S seems to be so much faster than the One X, but now the One X+ have a different chipset and now having a 2100 mAh battery.. do you think it's worth it? I've read some posts in the One X+'s forum that the battery is improved but not that much.. but now, they managed to have 4-5 hrs screen time, which is not by far from the One S.. and the JB and Sense 4+ is buttery smooth compared to the X's stock.. can the One S still beat the One X+?
Btw, i also do like the 64gb storage because 16gb isn't quite enough for me being a mobile gamer and a music lover, that's why i'm considering the upgrade..

Haha yea, the battery life is better many reviewers have said. Not amazingly better because the cpu is more powerful on the one x+ so most of the added battery power caters for that. Should be able to get a day with it which is the main thing . I want it badly as well lol. Was thinking about the nexus 4 but it's just problem after problem after problem on the n4 forum!

This is the Q&A Section, so pretty much any question that has to do with the respective phone is allowed. And it is also allowed to ask whether a user that answers has sufficient base to give a substantial answer. No reason to get rude and offensive for that.
Thanks for your understanding.

For starters OP the HOS was never faster than the HOX. It's like my mum trying to say her dual core centrino laptop is better than my quad core i7.. This is just something HOS users have invented to make themselves feel less insecure about buying a cheaper phone. ( Not that they need too. The HOS is a great phone). As for the battery. My friend owns a single core HTC SXL. It has a great battery life because of it's lower power. Now my HOX+ can pretty much go blow for blow with it in terms of battery, and lasts longer with the power saver mode enabled.
End of the day, it depends how you use your phone. If you use it as a phone/browser/media device. There is no need to upgrade. If you want to play the latest games or show off to your friends, your best upgrading to a HOX+ / SGS III or Note II.

Well that's a very professional answer, compared to some HOX+ users here who treat other people who have inferior phone to theirs, as dumb ****.. i really appreciate your response sir..
Now, about my plan to upgrade, after what i've heard from you, i really want to buy the HOX+ asap. i realized that 4.3" screen, 16gb storage and a battery that barely last a day with moderate use isn't enough for me.. before i bought my HOS, i really like the One X but i've read several reviews like in phonearena, gsmarena and here at xda that there are so many issues with the HOX like the short battery life, overheating problems, and the camera lens being vulnerable to scratches because it is really protruded, so i just bought the HOS. But seeing all that spectacular specs of the HOX+ and all the great things it has to offer, i fell out of love with my HOS.. and because i'm really a heavy user, mobile gamer and music lover, then the HOX+ is the perfect phone to upgrade to.

On my HOX+ the rubber around the raised camera bezel is just slightly raised compared to the glass. So when i put my phone down, the glass never makes contact with the surface. I don't know if this is the same for all HOX+'s though, as i have read threads by people claiming that there camera is not centered on the back of the phone. But from my experience with the HOX+, the quality is great. I guess you will just have to cross your fingers and hope you get a good model

It's good that the camera lens protrusion is now solved in the HOX+, and yes i've also read that some models, the camera eye isn't centered, i guess i have to inspect first the unit i will get before i pay for it. Good to know all issues to avoid before buying.
Btw, i never consider the sgs3 nor the note 2 because: 1) i was never impressed with the build quality of samsung mobile being plastic, it looks very cheap. 2) touchwiz UI isn't appealing compared to sense UI, i don't plan to root my phone yet within a year so i can't live with it's UI. 3) the One X+ looks sexier and more premium than any other samsung mobile. 4) sgs3 and note 2 is too mainstream, over rated, and almost all people use this and braging that they have the best and the latest phone out there, i don't want to be one of them. 5) super-lcd2 is more appealing to me than samoled, (though it's very ironic because my One S have samoled).
So i guess i will definitely get the One X+ if i can sell my One S, then i could get the money to buy one.. i'm afraid my One S will never have a JB update because it isn't one of the flagships today.

LGOG or HTC One X +

I'm sure this has been debated but I'm on the fence between the two.
As I see it the OG is ahead on al fronts except for the OX having a better Camera, Jelly Bean and a somewhat better form factor.
I might jump over to Best Buy and just get the OG and mess around with it since its an easy return if I decide not to keep it.
Also anyone using a Nano SIM in the OG from the iPhone 5? I have an adapter so I hope I can just pop the Nano in and LTE should work, I read it does on the OX.
Thanks

In my opinion the OX+ is a glorified international OX with more memory and JB. The LGOG is at least something new. Sometimes I compare the OX and OX+ to the Iphone 4 and 4s due to the minor differences and same for factor.

Yes, I have used the nano SIM from my IP5 in the OG, and it works fine. LTE also works with no modification to the APN settings. Just a note of caution: use the noosy brand of SIM adapters, since it has a plastic film to keep your nano SIM in place. Not trying to sell it, but I had the nano SIM fall out of the micro SIM adapter one time and it ruined the SIM contacts on the phone when I tried pulling it out.
Coming from the HOX & HOX+ I'm happier with the LGOG. I do wish the camera was better, but everything else on the LGOG I like better. Jellybean did nothing for me.

I agree that the OG seems to be much fresher and the UI better vs Sense. The camera from what I've read is OK at best, which is a real shame in this day and age. I messed with the Nexus 4 so it had a crappy camera as well.
I'm going to try and get one tomorrow at BB
If you really need a good phone camera, get an iphone 4s or 5.
The Nexus 4 and LGOG cameras are crappy because the pixel elements in the sensor are smaller than those in other camera module sensors.

The original ran cooler, battery was better for me on original One X and my One X got the JB update the difference was minimal. I returned mine and got a Note 2. That being said, if you've never had a quad core One X they are nice in about every way....except they are s on so you always have to fastboot flash a kernel before flashing a new ROM. I don't ROM jump as much on my One X simply for that reason. You can't just download a ROM straight to your phone while out somewhere and flash it. Just an fyi.

I hate the LGOG, but I think that if you plan on rooting and messing with ROMs and kernels, then the One X+ is the better phone. The LGOG has been out for almost 2 months, and still there is one ROM out there. If you don't plan on doing that, than in my opinion, the LGOG is the clear winner.
Well, when one is looking at reviews on the Internet, it's generally a good idea to flatly ignore all of the ''one star'' reviews because they are either a doa product or an incompetent user. By using the word ''hate" in your first sentence, you have placed your opinion firmly into said ignored pile.

I would say that you should go for the OG. I've had the phone for about 2 weeks now, and I love this thing. Even without Jelly Bean, and running on Lg's theme, it runs really smooth. The camera is not that bad, good enough for someone who just uses it now and then like me. And I believe the rom issue is almost fixed, as several teams are working on aosp/cm roms.
In my use of both the LGOG has better battery life then the One X+.... I'm happier overall with the LG then the X+

I really think everybody echoing this sentiment will be regretting their words in another month or so. Wait until after the holidays. More devs are jumping on board this phone as we speak. One team is close to getting JB on here, they just need to work our some issues with display drivers. Once these main roadblock are overcome then the ROMs will start flowing.
Have some patience, people. This phone is gorgeous piece of hardware. And the stock experience, although not JB yet, is about as slick and unobtrusive as they come!

lol no nobody will be regretting :silly: after all you can't go wrong if you choose any of these smartphones as both are nothing short of beasts if more devs jump the ship to OG then good for both existing owners and future buyers
Not trying to be a **** at all, and they are certainly both great phones. I just think there will be some regrets, particularly as far as longevity is concerned, where the OG's extra gig of RAM may begin to make a noticeable difference in another year or so. Also, and it's not a huge deal to most since the One X+ has 64GB internal, I personally love the expandability of the microSD slot on the OG.
Just saying, steering away from the OG because it doesn't currently have a lot of dev support, even if someone prefers it in every other aspect, is short-sighted.

Galaxy Nexus to HTC Droid DNA

I'm currently debating whether to pick up the Galaxy Note 2 or the HTC DNA. I love the form factor of the DNA and it's 1080p, sense has always been of interest as well. I currently own a Galaxy Nexus, the new Nexus 4 is kind of underwhelming so I think I'm gonna take a break from the google line of devices.
what do you guys say?
I looked at both before I got the DNA. The Galaxy Note 2 was just to big for me. The screen on the DNA is much better. The also I prefer Sense over Touchwiz and Sense 4+ is the best yet. The biggest problem people have with DNA is the 16gb of space on the phone. You can easily get around this since the phone has usb-otg built in. With an adapter you plug in any size USB device. I have a dongle with a 64gb microsd card. It also works with TWRP recovery so you can backup your phone to it if you choose to unlock your phone.
The DNA is also a world phone, correct? I live in Pakistan (where all the networks are GSM) and plan on having a friend of mine bring a DNA over from the states. I've read that they're unlocked out of the box and can be used on virtually any network.

Yups, u should be able to use it in Pakistan. All GSM frequency/band are UNLOCKED in this phone.
Iam using mine in India
My previous phone was also a GNex.
DNA is at another level to GNex. Quad-core, Bigger and better screen , better sound quality, better camera, better battery life.
The only thing GNex has over DNA is custom ROMs. But you should try out ViperDNA. It kicks ass !!
We should be getting AOSP pretty soon :fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:
The thing that sold me was the 1080p screen... Everything looks phenomenal on this thing. I was nervous about the battery life but that had ended up impressing me also. This has honestly be the best phone I have ever owned
man you guys are getting me pumped. I might have the phone by the 3rd week of march.
The only thing that bothers me is the Verizon logo tbqh.
I bought the note 2 but after two weeks it was just too big. Swapped it for this and never looked back!
For what it's worth I came from galaxy nexus and get easily double the battery life on this phone.

I was on a gnex before I got my DNA I'm happy as hell with mines. Unlocked,rooted,s-off,viper Rom, can't go wrong with that

I could not be happier leaving the gnex

lol cool .
I'm surprised to see so many gnex owners made the switch to DNA. That says a lot about the quality of the phone in my opinion. I'm not surprised you guys love the phone though, I guess its just that I've seen so much (unnecessary in my opinion) debate about all the things wrong with sense and HTC from gnex users.
I'm one of the rare people that loves both, but if I wasn't allowed more than one interface it would definitely be sense.
In regards to the OP, how serious of a hardcore android gamer are you?

I came from a GNEX and haven't looked back. I miss the roms but it is honestly a relief to be able to sit on one rom for a month with no issues and stellar battery life.

I'm going to provide a somewhat tenuous dissenting opinion. I'm coming from a Gnex, and picked up a DNA last night, which I'm considering switching to full time. After 24 hours with it, I'm quite pleased by the hardware, and utterly horrified by the software.
Sense is, in my opinion, complete and utter crap. There's no other way for me to put it, I hate almost everything about it. It's as if they locked several caffeinated adolescent boys in a room and told them to design a skin while watching episodes of Transformers. Viper is making it somewhat tolerable, but man am I anxiously awaiting AOSP. That said... the hardware, oh the hardware. The screen is simply gorgeous, and the battery life is easily twice what I got with my Gnex. In addition, I have 2-3 bars of 4G at work where I had 0-1 bars of 3G before.
The hardware advantages this has over the Gnex are sufficient to keep me from selling this thing in the hopes that AOSP is coming soon. If anyone reading is on the fence, and isn't sure how they'll feel about Sense, I'd advise waiting for prices to come down. I'll probably still pop my SIM into the Gnex here and there to experience Android as it was intended to be.
I too came from the gnex and while I loved the phone itself and devolopment. I couldnt stand the poor reception and battery life. I got the DNA on launch day and have never regreted it. battery life is great and so is the radio reception! As far as development goes you cant beat Viper rom been running it for a good while now and dont even miss AOKP anymore .I am sure you will love this phone!

As much as I hated it when I first switched, I actually kind of like sense now.... But maybe because every phone I have had before this one I ran CM or some form of aosp and the "newness" of sense keeps me interested. I really LOVE sense camera especially with the mod to make compression next to minimal. I get amazing pictures that the aosp (bless its soul) could never produce.

I actually don't game all that much, I might start though with that beautiful 1080p 5" screen. That said, I'm aware that many games don't work just yet, if that's the point you're insinuating.

This is exactly how I feel. Having first owned a G2x and then a Galaxy Nexus, the untainted google experience is starting to get a little stale. This is why I hope the DNA and sense will distract me for at least a year or longer... especially if Sense 5 is on the way.
Can only add to what others have said. I also came from the Nexus. Before that I had the incredible and sense.
The piss poor reception is what ultimately made me pay full retail for the DNA. Only downfall is the 16GB memory and annoying WiFi notification.
This phone is amazing though.

I just recently made the jump from the Galaxy Nexus to the Droid DNA. I resisted Sense at first being so used to the Stock UI but have come to really enjoy it. This phone is amazing though. Beautiful screen and very snappy performance. Anyone know how easily the back cover scratches? I prefer the naked feel and don't really want a case. In short it was a good move to go to the DNA.
BS
The process
so my question is what is the process of unlocking and turning s-off on this bad boy, i have never owned a htc device before

I have a One X+ & my wife has the SGS3. Both are excellent phones with similar battery life but my personal preference is for Sense over Touchwizz. Others will no doubt disagree. What I can tell you is whichever phone you choose you will not be disappointed.
You'll probably get a better deal from your network on an X+ though just because of the Samsung hype.

I'm one that likes Touchwiz over Sense but still bought the X+ cause of the tegra cpu, wanted to play thd games, lol, also i have no ideea why but I used a S3 for a kinda long time and can't really say i like the way it is built cause i feel like it could slip from my hand in any moment, and it also feels too fragile and in my opinion the borders are kinda big, but if I'd be to recommend one of them for software i would say S3 cause we have no s-off on the X+ and also not many non-sense roms, and some of them are outdated also, also an other + for s3 is that as much as i would play with it it won't heat like the X+ does, but also the battery drains faster in games than on the X+, so yah for the op, it's more of a preferance thing, cause at the hardware part they are preety close......but they do behave different.....also what i forgot to say is i feel like in 3d games the X+ has much much better colors.....but for someone not useing it for games that is useless....
I love the One X + and would prefer to keep that.
I would suggest to have a look at Nexus 4 which could be of the same price levels or even better wait for a month and look at the new Nexus 4 which might be available by may.
On an the other context of a modern hardware, it is preferable to choose the latest generation hardware. The processor in One X+ and SGS 3 are definitely outdated on date
I bought the One X+ because of the 64 GB of storage. It also has no problems with .mkv files over 4 GB unlike most other phones.
I had the same doubt chose the HTC, just because i liked it more overall, also much better looking.
I had the same choice back in November. FWIW I'm on AT&T here in the US. I ended up with the HOX+ over the SGIII mostly based on just the feel in my hands. I prefer the more solid build of the HOX+ to the flimsier plastic on the SGIII. I'd still probably stick with that reasoning over the SG4 which just came out.
As for the Nexus 4, I chose the HOX+ mostly for storage and LTE. Although, looking back, I may have sprung for the Nexus 4 if I could do it again. The decrease in storage I'd deal with for the opportunity to run some AOSP, PA, and other original ROMs instead of just Sense based ones. In general, I'd probably go back and pick a phone with more developer activity than the HOX+. We have some excellent devs, like Lloir and solomon working on AOSP for the HOX+, but they are running into some roadblocks with the LTE radio. So in general, if dev support on XDA is important to you, and you'd like more than just Sense-based ROMS, i'd stay away from the HOX+.
If they release an updated Nexus 4 with LTE and 32GB storage, I'll probably sell my HOX+ and buy one.
---------- Post added at 11:25 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:23 AM ----------
Also, is there a reason you don't want the HTC One? Better screen, can get just as much storage, already getting great dev support, Ultrapixel camera, rave reviews...unless price is an issue there's not much reason to go with an HOX+ at this point.

When I started searching the models, the first thing I did was to check custom roms for Nexus 4, S3 and X+ LOL
Ofcousre for me it matters.
Moreover to be honest I left the thought of Nexus just for its internal space with no sd slot .....seriously sad for such a awesome device
Do you have any news for upcoming Nexus 4 with 32 gb?? I don't think they would ....atleast after the news for Nexus 5
Actually the reason for HTC one is price only  I can't afford that much.....news say it starts at 45k
