Application Deployment on Windows 7 - Nokia Lumia 920

Hi everyone,
So I've got my Lumia 920, and I want to start developping some stuff... I registered to a developper account.
I'm working on Windows 7 (x64) computer, using Visual Studio Express for Windows Phone 2010.
WP8 SDK CANNOT be installed on a Windows 7 machine. So, no problem, I'll try with WP 7.1 applications.
The problem is:
- Zune CANNOT detect the lumia 920 on Windows 7 machine (maybe neither on a Windows 8 machine)
- Visual Studio NEEDS Zune to detect my phone in order to deploy application.
So basically, I just can't deploy anything on my phone on windows 7 can I ?

Yeah you're pretty much not able to do it. You can install Windows 8 as dual boot or in a VHD and do it that way. I don't think you can do it in a virtual machine because WP8 SDK requires to be installed on Windows 8 as the host OS in a Hyper-V environment. Easiest way to do it though is just to upgrade to Windows 8.

Thanks for the answer, that's what I thought... no real workaround then..
I'm using my work's computer, so I don't really have OS's choice (and having a W8 virtual machine running on it is not something I can consider)..
That's a shame though, that after buying a Lumia, buying a developper account, having a computer on Windows 7 I'm still unable to develop the way I want.. Anyway, nothing more to do except complain
I guess I'll just be coding at home.

You CAN deploy apps to WP8 on Windows 7 if you install Windows 8 as virtual machine. I have done this myself using VMWare Workstation.
Obviously, your PC have to support Hyper-V.
P.S.: You need to switch to "Exclusive mode" in the virtual machine and then Windows 8 will detect your USB connection.

That's good to know thanks !
Though I'm not sure my company would let me run a Windows 8 with my own licence on a VM. But maybe I'll find a way, thanks for the tip !

@@Vista and upgrade [email protected]@

hello to all.....
i know that some time ago the firmware upgrade on a Windows Mobile phone was available only on Windows XP and ActiveSync.
Now that Windows Vista are almost a year alive........activesync died and Windows Mobile Devive Center took its place.
i correctly synchronize my Atom Exec via USB and the firmware upgrade procedure starts.......
after a while the bar isnt loaded at all and an emergency window tells me that
''no download target found''
any ideas what the problem is?
I just screwed my ipaq rw6828 for trying upgrading to wm6 with vista 32bit, upgrade run 40% and stop for a long long time, i disconnect it, unload the battery and whalla! my ipaq is brick, now i am trying to revive it
You should use a program that create a virtual machine, install winXP on that virtual machine, and upgrade from it, as we don't have an upgrade program that can run on win vista.
I have Vista x64 and I use VM Ware work station with Windows XP for Atom's updates

[Q] Can I Use Android SDK and ADB on a Vista System?

I was getting prepped to get my unlock code and was finding out how to install Android sdk and adb on this site:
http://developer.android.com/sdk/installing.html
Went to System Requirements and for Windows it only lists XP And 7.
Would that be only if you're going to actually write something for Android? Atm the only windows computer I have up and running is my Vista laptop. I suppose I could try pulling out my old XP desktop system but I don't think it can even use my new monitors. I do have a nice Mac desktop running Snow Leopard but I prefer to do my hobby stuff on Windows as I'm much more comfortable with tinkering on that. I'm much more mystified by OS X than Windows.
I'm running 64-bit Vista and had no problem with ADB. The .zip I got was "android-sdk_r16-windows" and had a flawless unlock/ root process.
That said, I did have to do some more advanced settings within Windows. If you have any troubles let me know and I'll hunt down the ADB tutorial that I followed.
I've been using it on a 32 bit vista. Works fine

Don't mean to sound like a troll but get a new OS!! XP is over ten years old; it won't work with new devices forever.

While I agree with you, it's terrible practice by developers and hardware manufacturers to expect everyone to spend money on perfectly fine computers to get even more silly-looking and power-hungry versions of operating systems.
Windows XP is officially supported by Microsoft until mid-2014.

Are you on XP 64bit SP2 or XP 32bit SP2? The latter is no longer supported by Microsoft and it's highly recommended to upgrade to Service Pack 3.
You need Media Player 10 installed for MTP mode, but it's (according to other people, I don't have a Windows XP computer anymore) very cumbersome and problematic. I'd recommend using a filesharing app such as AirDroid to connect the phone to your computer.
haha i am still on 32bit xp sp3 @ home pc , works fine, make sure you install latest kies
here is the requirement for kies
OS Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 (32/64bit are supported)
CPU Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0GHz or above (recommended)
Minimum memory size (RAM) 1.00GB (recommended)
Free hard drive space At least 500MB (recommended)
Screen resolution 1024 x 768(600), 32 bit or above
Required software Net Framework 3.5 SP1 or above, Windows Media Player 10 or above, DirectX 9.0C
* For Windows Mobile, ActiveSync (Windows XP) or Device Centre (Windows Vista/7)
I got this error on my windows 7 64bit, I searched the net for hours up on hours. I did not find a solution so I did a fresh install of windows and that did the trick

Question How can I move from Windows 10 to 11?

Explain the full process for me because I want to migrate my system window 10 to window 11.
If your computer supports Windows 11 (you can check it using "Windows PC Health Check App").

You can upgrade using Windows Update. But if you are asking it here, i think you should not doing it by yourself... because you can make some mistakes with your system.
You need UEFI 64 bit Processor and TPM And (PC than support Windows 11)

And also intel cpu greater than 8th gen or Ryzen 3 (3rd gen or up) / Ryzen 5+ (2nd gen or up)
Yes.
I've had it running on my 2600k but didn't like it and went back to 10. Rufus is your friend. To hard finding drivers when I did it. January when I tried. Planning on waiting a couple more builds then trying it again. I mainly want Android Subsystem so I don't have to emulate
If you don't have the hardware to run it, there is a good build called ghost spectre. It's what I use and it's great.

Question Windows 11 wiped for Linux

I have a Dell Latitude notebook. I bought it form dell. It had Windows 11 on it. But I wiped it clean and installed Linux. I have a VM installed Virtual Box. So I am asking should I just use Linux and VM Widows 11 or should I reinstall Windows 11? I liked Win 11. It is one of my favorite versions of Windows yet... I use to be really skilled with Windows. Now I feel totally lost and vulnerable like I am asking to be a victim. Linux just feels like a fortress to me.
I mean I can't tell you what to do but it would have been a good idea to familiarise yourself with whatever distribution before you nuke Windows.
