I finally have this craig CVD601 figured out 100%.
after days of playing and searching around here is all the info.
there are customs roms.
mainly the hardware is a tvdongle_8277-aihua figured this out by click on the model number multiple times (under setting about device. a few easter eggs like this in the android world)
uses a wondermedia wm8850 cpu
custom roms for many devices, the one i used on my craig is good for 200 other devices.
rom i used works great so far

I am very happy with this device after finding this rom.

Total nube. I was gonna pick up a minix G4 for tv streaming, but this was $10 !!
It was on clearance at Rideaid.
So, I quick googled on my phone and saw this post.
Based on that I bought two.
It automatically updated to Jelly bean, but what ROMs do y'all recommend to get this think cookin?
As it is it is not impressing me.
I really just want it to watch Game of Thrones and Walking Dead.
Many thanks and yes I searched and yes I watched that Noob video on registration.

$10 really? I paid $70
from my other post.

Yes. $10.
Sorry. I actually bought two for $10. Each. they were on Uber clearance at the rite-aid.
Can I run ubuntu on this?
I looked at those links and there was none.

Does HDMI-CEC work with this unit and rom combo?
I'm holding out trying to find a device that will integrate with my remote control and tv.

DPI
Anybody figure out a way to change the DPI without being stuck in a boot loop? I'm having to completely re-install everything after attempting to change the DPI.

Need drivers
Ok, so my unit is dead. It's flashing a green light and it won't start. If someone could dropbox a driver package for the device, it would totally make my day.

CVD601 Rooted with GAPPS!
So I picked one of these things up on eBay cheap and decided to mess around with it. Out of the box it had ICS on it and was very unstable. Fortunately it began doing an OTA upgrade to Jelly Bean almost immediately after I got a WiFi connection. Unfortunately I was at my parents house and they have DSL with a top download speed of about 1.5Mbps so the whole JB image took like 4 hours to download. Once it finally downloaded I was able to apply the update and BAM, a CVD601 running JB 4.1.1. My initial enthusiasm was soon crushed when I realized there was no Google Play store however. Not being one to give up easily I began a week long quest to get GAPPS working properly on this device. I'm happy to say that after much trial and error I now have a CVD601 running JB which is rooted and has a fully functional Google Play App.
The Craig website which is linked in the top post now has a new 4.1 image that can be downloaded, it appears to contain GAPPS but I have not tried applying it for fear of destroying everything I have worked all week to accomplish. If someone would like to apply it, or has, and can report back on here whether or not GAPPS actually works that would be great. This image appears to be slightly older than the one that downloads OTA (from Taiwan) but if it has functional GAPPS it is probably the better choice.
As for rooting this device I was able to get version 1 of RootBurner for the WM8850 to work, the OTA image has su in /sbin so it must have been rooted at some point. RootBurner appears to do nothing when you boot the device with the SD card inserted but you should notice that the device does not boot properly but instead appears to be in a boot loop going from the JB logo to a seemingly blank black screen. I think this is because the boot files in RootBurner were made for a tablet rather than an HDMI device. If you let it go through the boot process a couple times and then power off, remove the SD card, and power back up your device should boot normally. If it worked you will see a Android is Updating message before the boot completes.
Feel free to post any questions and I will try to answer them as best I can.

Hey there, just got the device myself the other day. I'm going to try your method as the Uberoid ROM wont boot for me no matter what I seem to do and Uberizer doesnt work because for the life of me I can't get the Developer Options to show no matter how many times I click the build number!
---------- Post added at 11:43 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:28 AM ----------
Okay so just tried RootBurner with no luck. No matter what I do this thing will not boot from the SD Card. Any ideas?

Or did you append that code to the rest of the code? I'm a lil lost in this root/flashing method.
_
Have you tried Uberoid 2.0 on it yet? http://www.techknow.me/forum/index.php?topic=5356.0

Okay so I just added the lines from that file I didn't see in it already...
My next question is has anybody tried hooking up a webcam to one of these and got it working as the system's camera?

So I ran into a problem, I think... On Uberoid 2.0 my 16Gb microSD card only shows up as 80Mb's or somewhere around that size.

drivers with a improperly flashed unit
Will someone on here please share their Windows drivers for this device? I'm doing everything I can to fix my device so it will boot. I loaded the wrong firmware and now the device will not boot with the accurate fwc. Any thoughts or suggestions? I'm stumped.

Anybody find a way to reset the the display resolution? I let my friend use it who has a tube flat panel tv with a hdmi port and I had it set to the largest and he said it was way to big on his tv so he changed it back and then it was all pixelated.

Fun with Craig
I bought one of these (for a lot more than $10, sadly) and have been playing with it for the past few weeks.
I bought it to play video files and stream Youtube. I plugged it into a USB hub and it plays a bunch of formats that my Samsung home theatre doesn't like, but the wifi is unreliable and it can't read my 2 TB hard drive (it's FAT32, not NTFS), though it reads USB memory sticks OK.
I am past the store's return date, so I'm going to play with it and hack it as much as possible.
It came with JB 4.1.1 installed, no Google Play access, just Amazon.
It was not rooted and there is no developer options. (See below.)
I tried the image from the Craig web site and it's the same.
Clicking three times on the device info where it says Craig CVD 601 does switch to tvdongle_8277-aihua, as acem777 says.
I managed to root it with RootBurner, as per Heiligkuh's post. I used RootBurner_v0.1_MaPan on an SD card and it booted and rooted in a few seconds. I pulled the card and it rebooted into JB 4.1.1 with Superuser in the apps list. Hooray! Now I can run the techknow toolkit.
And I have the original Craig ROM so I can always go back to square one.
The TVDongle_8277-AiHua.fwc file from the Craig ROM is identical to the Uberoid version except it includes a name in the "<product>" and it turns off "developer options":

I'm going to try the Uberoid ROM and if that fails I will reinstall the Craig ROM after I manually edit the file to allow developer options. Manual edit? Oh no! I've voided the warranty!

Fun Toy So Far
I got one on clearance at rite aid for $25, but they're gone from there now.
I added a powered usb hub and connected usb mouse, keyboard and memory stick. They're all working. With a TV, they make a very small pc setup.
I rooted it via method posted above, RootBurner_v0.1_MapPan.zip .
Then I pulled Play Store from my rooted phone, an LG LS970, and installed it on the stick using adb. I also installed any apks I found that seemed necessary.
At first Play Store didn't really work -- it threw errors and died -- but then it updated and it has worked since.
I'd like to find a recovery for it.
I'm also going to try hooking up a USB camera. I have my doubts about whether that will work, but it'll be cool if it does.

No luck with Uberoid. I get an error part way through the install, but as I said, I have the Craig img file so I started over and rooted it again.
I'd like to figure out how to get bluetooth working. I have a $2 BT dongle and it would be nice to have it recognized when I plug it in to the hub.

Update
I got Google Play installed and working, thanks for mentioning it, eyesquash!
I have an Amazon account so I can download apps from there, as well.
I have a 32Gig SDHC card which gives me lots of room for junk.
More expensive than Chromecast, but fewer limitations.
Cheaper than Apple TV, but more fun to tinker with.

[Q] REVERT TO 4.0.3 (pre R5)

Can anyone help me get my TABLET S (non-XPERIA) back to the pre-Revision 5 release of 4.0.3?
I HATE, HATE, HATE R5. Took away so many things that I was using, and I want to go back.
I already called SONY and was told I can't go back. I told the guy...I will find a way - and hung up.
I am sure it can be done....just need to find the software and the steps to do it.

Simple as. Change vendor/vendor.prop incremental to a lower number and flash an older update.zip
Or use AIO and install rescue back door, boot loop protection.
Manually flash either 120803002 or 120410004.zip
Done

While I appreciate the reply, which gives you credit for a post (yes - I know how these forums work), I asked for the steps and software. I know it can be done, as I did it to my DroidX phone and had someone give me step by step instructions (rather directed me to a post he had done a year before with had everything I needed in one place).
I am talking real steps 1)...2)...3)... and links to the files. Not just some partial filenname which sends me on a goose chase.
Someone in another forum directed me to download signed-nbx03_001-ota-120410004.zip but then gave me nothing more - like do I put it on an SD CARD and do something with it. How do I get into BootLoader mode so that I can apply it, etc. I have already paid for a couple of apps that I used when I did my phone - I am sure that they might work for my tablet as well.
I am no idiot, do not need Crayola drawings, but at least 6th grade steps and locations on how to do this.
I cannot believe that for $350.00 that I just paid for the table SONY would tell me you can't do it - nor do they offer a manner to go back to the previous level (1 step) if you do not like the ROM that got installed.
4.0.3 (r5) is for the birds....takes away some of the best features of the reason I bought the SONY Tablet S over something else.
While I do appreciate, and do thank/reward those that help me - I think I need a little more than a simple 3 line response.

If you KNEW these forums you would know that we do not take kindly to those who do not use the SEARCH function. It is there so we don't have to repeat ourselves over and over again.
None the less.
If you can't manage this then take it in to Sony saying that you are having issues with the camera (they will restore it to original 3.2 software)
Step One
Root your device.
See my FAQ LINKS IS ALSO IN MY SIGNATURE!!
Step Two
Use AIO to 'Install "rescue-backdoor" [anti-bootloop protection].'
First you want to download, then extract to a folder, then double-click on S.onyTablet.S.bat, this will open a menu, enter '4' then press enter then enter '1' and press enter again. MAGIC, you have now decreased your incremental, well done.
Step 3
See my Update Links NOTE: ALSO IN MY SIGNATURE AND HAS BEEN FOR A LONG TIME, others had no problem with it
Find the update you require to flash, you want signed-nbx03_001-ota-120803002.zip or for you highness LINK
Step 4
Copy signed-nbx03_001-ota-120803002.zip to your SD card. Google how to if you don't know
Step 5
Put SD card back into tablet and boot into recovery. See my FAQ LINKS IS ALSO IN MY SIGNATURE!!
Step 6
Leave tablet to boot into R1A
Step 7
Be happy and click the fricken Thanks button.
P.S this is not hard stuff
Stifilz,
Thank you so very much for the long post. I was going cross-eyed looking for something like that...surprised that no-one has STICKY'd that one.
So I checked out #1 - followed the directions in FAQ to put the ADB path into the my DOS PATH statement (ahhhhh. the good old days - DOS). I can go to the DOS prompt and type 'adb' from any directory and it will bring up the ADB menu - hence it is working.
So I went to the task manager and verified that ADB.EXE was not listed. I typed ADB DEVICES (lower case) and it gave me the following:
C:\Windows\system32>adb devices
* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
* daemon started successfully *
List of devices attached
C:\Windows\system32>:
I made sure that the SONY TABLET is seen - I unplugged from the computer and re-plugged, Windows bonks and wants to know if I want to browse the device. I have made sure the USB DEBUGGING is enabled on the device (before I connect it - had that problem with my DROIDX). Still the ADB 0.29 is not seeing the SONY TABLET S.
Any Ideas why?
When I try running the RUNME.BAT file I get the following:
D:\ROOT_W_RESTORE>runme
======================================================================
= This script will root your Android phone with adb restore function =
= Script by Bin4ry (thanks to Goroh_kun and tkymgr for the idea) =
= Idea for Tablet S from Fi01_IS01 =
= (02.10.2012) v13 =
======================================================================
Device type:
1) Normal
2) Special (for example: Sony Tablet S, Medion Lifetab)
x) Unroot
Make a choice: 2
Special mode:
1) Root
2) Rollback
Make a choice: 1
Tablet S mode enabled!
* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
* daemon started successfully *
and it just sits there...left it for 20 minutes while I was making dinner. Should I have the power plugged in at the same time? Do I need to enable the STAY AWAKE setting?
Your guidance is again requested.
Please ignore my previous response. I really am not an ass - I was getting frustrated during my 2+ hours search not finding a message such as yours with the steps laid out like that - without making you bounce from one post to another - to another, it was like a scavenger hunt.
Again accept my thanks and my apologies.

Hey...THANKS. not sure why I did not catch that the tablet did not show as adb device, as I had to do the same thing when I rooted my DroidX...I guess I assumed that it would do it from that install.
Again thanks...now lets see if I can get the 4.0.3 (pre-R5) back on the tablet.
SO FAR SO GOOD. Weird that the SD card does not show from the tablet with it in the SD slot on the tablet like it does on my DROIDX. You can copy files to and from the SD Card in the phone without taking it out.
See...you can teach an old bear new tricks.
Stifilz,
On last step of your instructions...have one question.
What is the difference between this signed-nbx03_001-ota-120803002.zip that you mention and the signed-nbx03_001-ota-120410004.zip that I also downloaded from another forum message I was reading?

stifilz,
Well I was successful...but it killed my ROOT. I got to playing with the new load, and it looks to have kept a bunch of my apps and some settings, but some of the apps do not work well.
I take it that if I go though the process again and choose to NOT RESTORE, it will put it back to OUT OF BOX configuration?
I do not have a lot of customizations that I will have a problem re-doing to get it back to O-O-B configuration. All of my apps can be pulled back off GOOGLE PLAY. Learning that is advantageous to have a GOOGLE PLAY account for each device (he he).
There are a lot of apps that I have noticed on GOOGLE PLAY that say not compatible with my device. Any known reason why? I figured that open source was open source.
I saw in the AIO that you can change the device type of your tablet to something else. Have you ever tried that? Does it seem to work?
I have also read that the UK models have a slot for a SIM card. Do you know if the US models have it to - just maybe inside and inaccessible?
I am loving the tablet....but find that now that I am back on the 4.0.3 my media files on my HTPC will not play. I find this wierd. The 4.0.3 update - according to the SONY site, says it improves the H.264 file playing...and nothing is mentioned about any changes in the R5 update.
Also one thing I noticed about the R5 load was it would sometimes just turn OFF the tablet. No reason or rhyme to it. Ever hear of that?
I may wind up going back up - if I cannot get them to play...have yet to try copying one to the SD card and playing it. But all of them used to play before I went back down.
Been looking into codecs too - but most of the processing of streamed DLNA stuff is done on the host machine [ putting on the Sherlock Holmes outfit again ]
Thank again for all your insight.

Hey...THANKS. not sure why I did not catch that the tablet did not show as adb device, as I had to do the same thing when I rooted my DroidX...I guess I assumed that it would do it from that install.
Again thanks...now lets see if I can get the 4.0.3 (pre-R5) back on the tablet.

bearhntr, I have been struggling trying to get my tablet to show up when I type in adb devices. I was having the same problem you had before you wrote this post. I followed the directions in Bluechips post for the ADB installer (very huge thanks for all those who develop these things to make it easier) and even did step by step with the video. I have also tried other methods to get ADB to work.
Long story short, did you do anything different than listed in Bluechips post to achieve success in getting your computer to see your tablet as an ADB device?
Thanks!

Esonnen,
I followed the steps from BLUECHIPS direction step by step. Are you seeing the tablet at all in the Windows Device manager? Mine was showing up in the device manager - but not correctly until I installed the drivers.
I right mouse button clicked on the SONY TABLET S entry in the device manager in Windows and chose UPDATE DRIVER...then pointed it to the extracted AdbWinUsbApi.dll file. Followed the prompts and after that the SONY TABLET was listed in an new CATEGORY called ANDROID PHONE, as ANDROID COMPOSITE ADB INTERFACE.
I found that if I did not get it to show as this in the DEVICE MANAGER, nothing I tried with ADB or other tools that used that software would work. This was the same problem I had when I was working with my DROIDX. I had thought that by getting the DROIDX to work properly in the rooting process - that the tablet would as well. It was the simple act of changing the driver to the AdbWinUsbApi.dll that fixed it.

I had already tried that player and it also downloaded the ARMv7 CODEC set to the tablet.
This player may work fine...but it wants the files to be LOCAL to the device or streamed from a WEBPAGE type arena.
I want something that will stream DLNA (the tablet sees all three of my Windows DLNA device and my Sony STR-DN1020 receiver) using the DLNA services that are in 4.0.3. It even shows me the folders on my HTPC. I can also list the movies on it. Where the 4.0.3(r5) showed an actual thumbnail of the first frame of the .M4V files - the 4.0.3 shows what appears to be a set of hotair balloons.
Touching one of the files yields the following error: "INVALID MEDIA - PLAYBACK NOT SUPPORTED" These files play fine on the HTPC and my D-LINK DSM-750 Media Center Extender (and in 5.1 audio). Generally with DLNA the decoding is handled at the source PC, not the playback device. I find this weird too.
Maybe I will try copying one of these files to the device and try playing it from there....try and narrow it down.
GORDO79,
Not sure what has happened, but my Tablet S is now playing the videos from my HTPC. The details of all the videos hows VIDEO CODEC: UNKNOWN and AUDIO CODEC: UNKNOWN, but all of them seem to be playing.
I searched the GOOGLE PLAY STORE, but do not find any codecs listed there other than the ones for various players.
I am so happy now that I can play my videos and I think I will be able to THROW them to my DSM-750 (Media Center Extended) until I can get a BRAVIA TV (hint hint Santa).
Much thanks for everyone's help.

P.S this is not hard stuff

stifilz,
Again many thanks for your help with this. Not sure why the ROOT broke when I did the deed (and I was successful), but I tried to get my root back following your steps again (other than flashing with the .ZIP from the SD card), and I cannot seem to get my ROOT back. Neither the AIO or the ROOT W/RESTORE works.
I wanted to use the AIO to turn off the OTA prompt and run a few of the tweaks, but each time I run it - the screen goes red and tells me I have to ROOT.
Any ideas where I am going wrong?
Much Thanks

The tablet that I am dealing with is a "Cruz Velocity Mini Tablet" running android 2.0 and no means of installing apk's.
Currently this is the situation:
A friend of mine lent me her Chinese reader tablet.
I told her that I could probably flash a newer version of Android on it, thinking that I could finally try my hand at making a ROM because I know for a fact that there aren't many ROMs if any at all out there for a chinese off brand reader like this.
After rooting the tablet I deleted the pre installed bloatware via ADB commands (shell) including a file manager (Astro) that I believe was the only way that you could browse files on the tablet, as well as some other pre installed applications that must have been necessary in retrospect. There is no existing vending capability or market application.
I am looking to make a custom ROM (Using android Kitchen and Cywign) through following this tutorial by lokeshsaini94 yet I feel like following that tutorial won't even get me where I need to be.

Things that I have tried at this point include:
Attempting to connect the tablet to my computer with the SD inserted (with and without debugging turned on) [Failed to show up on my computer as a device or anything]
Downloading the APK that I need from a file sharing website [Downloads fail]
Uploading the APK that I need to my Google drive and downloading it from the tablet [Says waiting for data connection and doesn't download even though connected to our WiFi]
Inserting the SD card into my computer, copying the APK I need over to it, then inserting the SD card back into the tablet, going into the browser and typing "File:///sdcard/<name here>.apk" to install an APK but getting an error in the installer after pushing 'install' -> 'Application not installed'
Trying to perform a factory reset; this simply makes the tablet reboot with everything the same as it was before.
Essentially guys and gals, my tablet here is running Android 2.0, I want to update it by making my own rom for it to something at least >4.0, and it seems that I've made things worse and have no way out of this mess. I think I've essentially bricked it even though it still works. :silly:
What do I need to do to make a custom ROM let alone flash/wipe this tablet?
All help will be incredibly valuable
There should be plenty of info here http://www.slatedroid.com/forum/93-velocity-micro-cruz-reader/ to get you on the right track. Not likely you'd be able to get anything beyond Gingerbread on there running due to lack of source code. Your only hope would be to see if there is a newer tablet with the same chipset that has something newer on it to port over.

Thank you very much for your response. It looks like on that website I've already found multiple useful roms!
In fact I already downloaded one and put it onto the SD card. Apparently for these tablets you're supposed to, while powered off, turn it back on by holding the power button and the volume up button but all this seems to do as a whole load of nothing.
I fear that what I've done to it by deleting potentially sensitive programs previously, I have somehow managed to make this process impossible.
Is there some kind of way that I can plug this tablet into my computer and be able to completely wipe it so I can, at the very least, have a functional tablet that will work at all? I've done approximately 5 factory data resets yet the background image that my friend has on the tablet as well as seemingly every single setting and application is remaining untouched..
Try the ones here that also install a custom recovery: http://www.slatedroid.com/topic/33586-a-clockworkmod-rom-compendium-for-the-cruz-reader/
You'll want to make sure and rename the file exactly as mentioned there on the OP. Install instructions are included too. I don't think there is a way to reload via the PC. The right zip should get everything working properly.

Irulu X7 tablet

My irulu tablet can't connect with Play Store so I can't download apps and it never did connect with play store. Always can't connect with server. Yes, I know it's cheap, it cost $45 new with shipping. But then, I guess its not so bad to brick it at that price
I've tried factory resets, I've successfully rooted it with Kingo but have not been able to find a Gapps file that will run on it. It seems like built in apps are locked in some way as I've not been able to delete them.
On the face of it, it has ok hardware running a QuadCore A33 and 4.4.2. But without the ability to install apps, its pretty much a internet browser at best.
On another post on this forum, it was noted that there are updated drivers the irulu website for download but...they don't install. I've had an identical experience. I download them onto the 32 gb sd card with an adapter and then put them into the tablet. I then do a recovery reboot and load them from the sd card. All the ones on the web site give improperly signed errors. So I unpacked them, repacked them properly signed (thanks xdadevelopers) and got past that error. But still they don't install.
If anyone knows a way to get play store to work, I'd be happy to learn of it. Guessing there is a Gapp zip somewhere that might run but I've not found it and that the bootloader must be unlocked but, again, I've not found a method of doing this.
I'm a newbie with Android stuff but have been building and working with desktops since MS DOS 1.5.
Well..I succeeded in bricking the Irulu. Following the following advice from
wiki cyanogenmod org/w/Template:Unlock_Bootloade
From a terminal on a computer, type the following to boot the device into fastboot mode:
adb reboot bootloader
The tablet got frozen at the logo stage on the screen and wouldn't continue loading. No keypresses got it going. Opening it up showed the battery hard wired. So I tried shorting that out, nothing. So...it went into my trash where I currently feel Irulu tablets belong.
They must have done something very proprietary to the android operating system.

docooler M9S-Pro

My M9S-Pro finally arrived. It's a modest AmLogic S905 chip with a Mali-450, notably only because it has Ethernet, three USB ports, 3 GB of RAM and a 32 GB ROM.
My kids use the Nexus Player as a gaming device, but I am constantly running out of space even with Marshmallow's USB space reallocation (which does not work perfectly by any means). I bought this hoping to replace the Nexus Player which only has 8GB (+ whatever Marshmallow offers, and whatever some apps will allow transfer to external storage).
Right off the bat, it boots quickly and is stable. It included Kodi, some generic TV streamer with pay TV streams in foreign languages, a file manager, Antutu, various video players, and Netflix. The USB port puts out enough current to power an external 2.5" HDD.
Antutu score is 31,300 if that matters to you.
I found a version of TWRP that worked great and I rooted this by flashing the same beta-SuperSU as I used on my Nexus Player.
It uses an IR remote with shortcuts to different apps and a mouse function. It's slow but usable. I use it with an airmouse with a better experience.
I am running HAL Launcher which is just about the best experience you can hope for with a Chinese box. I also added the keylist for the Bluetooth controllers from the OUYA that I had years ago, and my kids use it for a gaming box.
It's a good value for me, but if you use Android TV boxes for streaming only you don't need the space and should probably get a cheaper box - maybe one running 6.0+ so it supports the latest version of Kodi.
Now that I have TWRP and root, I am looking for an AOSP experience.
Are these available for AmLogic systems? I've seen RemixOS for certain AmLogic boxes, but they're all a bit different and haven't tried experimenting with that yet.
How did you get this device rooted and how did you boot it into TWRP?
If rooted the Docooler, could I run a Long Term Release of Ubuntu or Mint on it. I've used Linux with our Brother MFC-J835DW and its simple to print from any Application. Android not good at all. 2nd is with Ubuntu I can set up multiple guest users in various Languages "English" " "Spanish" etc. so a guest can log on , browse, print, done.
On Android it seems to remember Users, not sure how to delete,
Very hard to print "share",
Doesn't appear to allow set up to multiple users so can only run as 1 language.
I really like that these boxes have separate monitors, keyboards, and appear not to require a fan as we are at the beach with a lot of salt air. All my connections require DiElectric Grease from Autozone so as not to corrode. Even better would be a sealed heat sink case.

dow did you root the device?
@alexxdj,
You'll need to do two things.
First, download TWRP for AmLogic devices. The link is below for a whole bunch of them.
http://freaktab.com/forum/tv-player-support/amlogic-based-tv-players/16228-twrp-for-amlogic-devices
I don't remember which one I used, but I believe it was for a Minix S905 device. As long as it's S905, they are similar enough that you should be okay. Make sure it is scaled properly when you use it.
Then you'll need to download ChainFire's SuperSU.
https://download.chainfire.eu/743/supersu
Copy both files to a SD card. TWRP will be bootable, but you will need to press/hold the button that's hidden in the audio out jack. I simply used a pin. So, unplug the unit, insert the SD card, insert the pin, then plug it back in and wait for it to boot to TWRP.
If all looks well, great. You will need a mouse for this part.
Flash SuperSU as normal. Reboot.
After I booted, I actually had to run the supersu APK to make it work properly. I used Root Explorer (since it opens files in zip files with ease) to do this.
I hope this helps.
thanks for your information but where is this hidden button? I cant find it!!!
It's in one of the audio jacks in the back of the unit. Open it up if you need to see it: it comes apart easy and goes back together easy.
Otherwise get a long pin or needle and poke in the jacks until you feel it click.

Try naming it 'recovery.img'
The recovery should not be zipped. Extract the IMG file if it is.
yes i know that. maybe i tried wrong recovery. after 2 times failed to boot to recovery. when i release the button? when i show the android and starts to erase?

I press and hold it until the TWRP logo appears.
I think you have the wrong recovery. Try the MINIX MX one. AmLogic makes a lot of devices, and the S805, S812, S905, and S912 all require different recoveries.
You need to make sure it's for the S905. Google is your friend here.
After I successfully rooted, I ultimately decided to flash TWRP itself on my box.
i tried 50 recovery for s905 form yesterday but nothing. Cant boot to twrp!!

Apologies, I didn't realize the URL to Freaktab was truncated. I've corrected it now.
TWRP for AmLogic Devices
Try a few of these. There are only 31, and over half of them can be discounted because they are not for the S905.
If I remember right, I used this one:

is there any update for this tx box?? and why do you want to install TWRP? I use it only fr install roms but I can´t find any for this model

Trying to run Rez Infinite on unsupported devices.

I have a Moto Z2 Play running Android 7.1
MZ2P is not a daydream ready device, yet you can manage this and install daydream straight from playstore by editing some files.
I edited "handheld_core_hardware.xml" to add the following lines:
<feature name="android.software.vr.mode" />
<feature name="android.hardware.vr.high_performance" />
And I also edited the build.prop to replace the device listed on "ro.product.device" to sailfish
This method, which I found here: https://www.xda-developers.com/force-daydream-vr-compatibility/ solved the problem for installing daydream on my device.
But when I try to install Rez Infinite it still says my device is not compatible.
I have tried downloading Rez Infinite from an external source and installing it, still no luck. I get an error message saying it is not compatible.
I have tried device faker apps to spoof my device as a compatible one, but those apps are all outdated. And I have tried some other things as well, and none of them worked.
Any ideas on how to run Rez Infinite on uncompatible devices, if there is a way at all?
Thanks
Ok, first of all, i guess you already know this but you need the proper hardware, i managed to make my lgg5 work with daydream although it's not officialy compatible, REQUIREMENTS: snapdragon 820 or better, 4gb of ram, gyroscope, accelerometer and best with an oled screen for low persistence. The changes you mentioned área right but you need to make those prior to connecting to Google with your phone, a good way is to install a new ROM without connecting to the internet, make those changes and reboot, then use your phone as usual and everything should be working flawlessly.
