Throughout the forums there seem to be fairly conflicting reports about CM7 for the Touchpad, it crashes a lot, it mostly works, lots of apps don't work, most common apps do work.
Basically, how reliable is CM7?
I don't use too many apps, so for me it would mainly be for:
- Browser
- Gmail
- Google Docs
- Facebook
- Twitter
- Spotify
- Swiftkey (does the tablet version work?)
Oh, and the official Touchpad Bluetooth Keyboard.
Would I get a good experience out of the current build?
Some answers after 5 days using CM:
-in my case, no SOD, but it seems to vary
- dolphin hd (browser) works nicely
- SwiftKey x tablet also good
- 2 random reboots in 5 days
- facebook ok if you use fake gps to Set up your location (otherwise it crashes)

I have the official hp touchpad keyboard. It works really well once you get it paired. When it ask for the code on the tp put in 0000 then hit ok. As soon as your done hit 0000 on the the keyboard then hit enter. You have to do this really fast while the tp is running the ring on the screen getting ready to pair it. Good luck

One of the most stable "alphas" I've seen, more of a beta. Running Alpha2, a couple times a day I might have to cycle Airplane mode to get wifi back. This seems more frequent if hopping multiple APs. A couple apps you listed have issues;
- Google Docs - current version FCs, had to sideload old version 1.0.4r (search the forum, there are discussions on this)
- Facebook - FCs unless you run a fake gps app first
This morning I had to power cycle it to get touchscreen back, but even so I feel no urge to reboot into WebOS.

I have been running 2.1 alpha since it was released. The only issue I have had is the common wifi issue. Occasional disconnects but otherwise stable enough to run as a daily driver.

I received my touchpad the morning of Oct.17. I have been using cm7 exclusively since that evening. No.need for Web OS.
HTC Vision(G2), meXdroidmod Ghost Chili AIO ROM/ICS CM7 theme.
The Google Docs App force closed on me today when i downloaded/installed it.
Camera doesnt seem to work, it also force closes.
Had a few SODth but saw a thread earlier today about installing an ap (softlocker) and its helped thus far.
No random reboots for me. Ive been running CM7 alpha2 since last Thurs
Everything except wifi is fairly reliable. I only have secured networks, so wifi constantly crashes for me. I'd wait for the next release if it was important to you.

As for me,
1. Market sometimes FC when installing (not a big deal)
2. Wifi drops occasionally and need manual reconnecting
3. Battery drain during sleep, at the rate of around 2 to 3% per hour
4. Scrolling a bit jerky for a dual core 1.5GHz device
5. Facebook FC without FakeGPS
Otherwise everything is working so far. But then I haven't tested everything.

Im waiting for alpha 3. I ended up removing it from my pad since mine wouldn't stay connected to WiFi for longer then 30 seconds at a time.

I only got mine last night and got CM7 loaded within minutes of opening it. I had some problems with wireless until I switched mine to channel 6 from channel 11. It ran solid as a rock for a few hours until I shut it down for the night.
Renders all my various size and density photos (all JPG) quickly and very crisply.
Netflix ran good.
Youtube was okay.
My mp4s encoded for my Nook Color were all messed up (played but video was whacky, striped accross the screen, these play great on webOS)
Plays my MP3 without issue (need to move my album art over from my Nook Color)
Quadrant scores are pretty low (low 2000's) only due to the FPS graphics not being optimized (GPU acceleration probably is not finished.)

Browser is meh. But 3rd party Opera is fantastic. Nearly as smooth as safari on ipad.
Gmail is fantastic.
Google Docs is great.
Facebook sucks if you don't install a fakegps app or the older 1.5.2 apk that didn't need GPS.
Twitter's great..
Thats all I know. But I do know that the camera doesn't work (on EITHER of my CM Touchpads) and that each of mine have also had a random shutdown and refused to wake up (without me long pressing the power/home buttons repeatedly)... but that being said... very sweet stable for an Alpha. In fact, I think it's more stable than my phone, also on CM. And more importantly, it's better than WebOS if only for the app selection.
Compared to web os its 100% better some bugs but I haven't booted into web os since the first alpha.

have SOD's despite the fact that i've tried every work around i could find... actually the last one was probably due to the fact that the work around drained the battery... between that and the wifi i've pretty much given up on it until a more stable for me release. it is in very good shape though. i liked having a netflix tablet for a bit. wish HP had made it 16:9 but oh well.
anyway since you can dual boot i really dont' see any reason for people not to put it on there. Pulse newsreader is so damn cool on a tablet

oooo ill have to check it out. Thanks
Just installed yesterday and very impressed for an alpha build. Only get FCs for market and Facebook but realised that i need the fake gps. Did have to reboot the first time as apps wouldn't install saying i had no space. On the whole i like it and especially adobe reader as its miles more quicker and better quality than the WebOS version. But i do miss the WebOS interface so i can see what apps i'm running and throwing the cards away to close the app.
I thought I'd give y'all my two cents after I installed CM Alpha 3. I decided to install 3 instead of 3.5 because it seemed 3 was running fairly well. The gist from whay ive read was basically "if it ain't broke, why fix it". Frankly, I was debating if I should wait for a stable mod to come out or jump into the Alphas. Hopefully this'll help those with the same question.
So after playing with it for 2-3 hours, running simple tasks, I have to say CM runs amazingly smooth and well. My tasks basically included Android Market downloads, internet browsing with Dolphin, Aldiko book reading, playing around with basic settings, Widgets and backgrounds. The wifi works well - on my home network and tethering with my HTC Evo. I've only encountered about three or four force closes that occurred in succession. This was from ADW Launcher and me trying to install the Honeycomb theme. Not compatible I guess. All the other themes I tried worked. The accelerometer / g-sensor works fine. Keyboard works fine. Battery life is good so far in my tiny experience.
I have yet to try any games or videos yet but I will update later today. I will also be trying Flash out.

Because mine sucks. It has reverted to locking up after every 2nd or 3rd page like it did on .11. On a positive note, this is the first update for me with absolutely no reboots, although I would rather have browser working properly again and deal with the 1 reboot a day I was having.
Anyway this isn't really here as a complaining thread, I'm just interested to see if this is commonly affecting people or if I should try a factory reset.
EDIT: sorry for the duplicate thread, I just found the other one that I somehow missed when I was scanning over the other thread topics in this section
Sigh, I got my first reboot AND browser lockup with this update lol. Its OK though between ics+ and chrome I'm fully covered. Reboot has happened once and lockups several times. How can I watch pron if my browser locks up? Answer that one Asus!
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using Tapatalk
My browser has been slow also it keeps locking up and I have to close out of It and shut down the tasks then i am able to get back into it. .14 I didn't have any of these issues with the browser
i didn't noticed anything still same
but about update .15 was very fast
The freezing issue has went away using ics browser + for me. I have the C1 model if that matters.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
mine is much much better and way more quicker,
However it seems that it now opens a new tab each time I click a link.
slightly annoying however I'll live with it for the extra speed.
I have almost zero browser freezing after the .15 update - been very happy with it
Browser is pretty good, fast and smooth, although i think once it locked up completely and forced a reboot. I dont have random reboots or anything i'm pretty sure that one was caused by the browser locking up.
Apart from that everything's fine. Oh youtube servers totally suck the last few days But that problem occurs on all my devices and for everyone around here...
My browser now sucks with .15. (BCOKAS)
- It's a lot slower.
- It freezes a lot
- It crashes.
- On .11 it was way faster, better and more stable.
- when I turn javascript off it's blazing fast.
Looking forward to .16
OK with ICS+, but Chrome crashed on my first use, second page after .15
Thanks for the input, sounds like I should try the ics+ browser. Chrome seems to be working really well right now for me, but it doesn't have flash which is kinda meh for me. I would really love to know why everyone has such different experiences with updates, but I would be shocked if there was a person alive that actually knew the answer...
My stock browser is the same with .15 as before...slow, becomes unresponsive to taps after a while, and crashes. I use Dolphin instead.
I just got mine a few days ago, updated to 15 as soon as i powered it on. My only issue with the browser is it will randomly close itself, no fc or anything. Otherwise no issues
ICS browser + is faster but has this strange scroll lag for me.
Going to try the new opera mobile version now. (has flash now)
I have had a bunch of issues with freezes and fc's as well don't know what gives

Have you guys tried going to settings -> apps -> find the browser app and clear its cache? It solved my problems.
I clear cache, cookies, forms, and passwords regularly. It doesn't matter. I have tried incognito so I don't have to do that but it doesn't make a difference. I also have desktop page checked.
Before 15 the only issue I had was GPS and Wifi wasn't stellar.
With 15 I now have reboots daily *sigh* and I also see a lot more "close/wait" popups (mainly in the browser).
My TP only rebooted once when i was on .11 firmware. Now im in .15 and it restarted 3x already. Always when i was in browser having multiple tabs open and watching some flash related stuff. There definately room for improvement
Tablet significantly slower with the latest update. Browsing is also much slower with more lockups. .15 was a massive step back for me as the previous one was working so nicely!
This was happening last week, I've only just got round to asking about it. (I am currently running a different rom, but i would still like to raise the issue)
I had the latest version of CM10 at the time. When I was using firefox or chrome they both just kept crashing, i could move between a few web pages, then they would pack up and say not responding - wait, close or report.
Is this just me or are others experiencing the same.
the stock browser works fine.
I'm currently on cm10. For me both the browsers u mentioned are working flawlessly

Folks,
Be sure to grab the new Chrome Beta in the play store that fixes many of the issues we've had with Chrome on the Nexus 10.
Don't expect UI or UX changes in this beta. This is the first build available now that the Chrome for Android team has most everything upstreamed to the open source Chromium project. This build should feel faster due to optimizations for touch and bug fixes. There's still quite a bit of work to improve fluidity of the UI as seen here: http://code.google.com/p/chromium/i...r+Summary&x=mstone&y=releaseblock&cells=tiles
I suspect Chrome will improve a good deal faster than it has in the past now that it has been open sourced and the Chrome for Android team can focus on things other than upstreaming the project.

I installed it, but whenever I opened the settings it would crash (from a null pointer exception). OK, so it has some bugs still, that's to be expected. However, now when I open the settings for the stable chrome app, it crashes with the same problem. I sent crash reports to Google for both cases, but does anyone know if the two versions interfere with each other and if there might be something I have to delete from the drive to make it work? I'm rooted, so doing that should be pretty simple.
Edit: sorry, this was on my nexus 4. But if anyone has any ideas, that would be great.
Edit 2: nvm, looks like it was a ROM issue.
How does it compare to stock s3 browser? Only had 5 minutes with it and about to sleep so can't test it but noticed within seconds it's amillion times faster and smoother than the last stable chrome which is s brilliant sign. Would love chrome to be Good enough to be my default browser on the s3 (and ipad) again ASAP.

I'd say it loads/renders pages noticeably faster, but it seems a little choppier with scrolling - a worthwhile tradeoff imo.
Very, very fast.
But for me, the main issue now Is NO FULL SCREEN mode.
Come on Google.
Anyone using the new beta have it freeze up - requiring a reboot of your N10? Sadly, this happens to me 2-3 times per day, especially if I'm browsing Chrome while listening to music (Google or Pandora). I'm going to give it a try regardless, just curious as to what others are experiencing.
I loaded up theverge.com on the new Chrome Beta then on Ocean browser,
Ocean browser is still MUCH faster to load and scroll,
Chrome beta still redraws all graphics when scrolling like my old xoom, YUCK!
Some sites is still clunky, but others is not a problem.
Video review + benchmarks - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=azNB4QKm8Ag&feature=youtu.be
Page load times are indeed faster but scrolling is much slower than building chromium yourself. My guess is there are a few things still disabled in the beta build that are enabled in the chromium source.

Doesn't kill battery as much as the other one. However zooming doesn't adjust text size so kind of useless from that point of view.

Chrome needs so much work to be competitive with other offerings its sad.
I ran the Chrome beta a bit yesterday, but it only took about 25 minutes for it to freeze up and force me to reboot my Nexus 10. I don't know how prevalent this is with the beta, but it appears to still be an issue. I've gone back to using AOSP browser.
